The grounds were beautiful and well groomed, the public areas were aesthetically pleasing, well maintained and very clean. The food was excellent with plenty of Gluten Free options however they were not always labelled but I was able to ask and someone was always willing to assist.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Do not recommend
WE WERE ASKED TO SIGN A NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT AS TO NOT PUBLISH NEGATIVE COMMENTS,WE DID NOT SIGN IT OBVIOUSLY
This resort is laughable at best!
Cons -
-patio infested with ants on 3rd floor
-Timeshare pushy on arrival
-Food cold and sub par (ill usually eat anything)
-Smell of sewer coming from multiple areas
-Walk ways not maintained
-Machinery is used in middle of night making loud noises and preventing people from sleeping
Side note to that noise coming from machinery! We complai[... read more]ned about it the first night at 3am as it woke us up and kept us up. Second night, they use said machinery again, but this time at 5am. This time they told us, "we saw the report, but we must work at night as to not bother clients during the day" How does that makes sense? You rather keep people from sleeping?
- WIFI is super unreliable
- NO more beach as seen in brochure and pics, erosion has destroyed their beach
Pros
- most staff is friendly and nice when not on their phone
- a lot of animals on site
I was here 3 years ago, and I would of gave it 5 stars back then. This place has gone downhill quick.
I do not recommend this place to anyone at all

Riu Tequila: Riu Tequilla, Mexico
We needed a stress reliever after 2 years of no vacations, this resort was clean, well spread out so social distancing was not a problem, the food and staff were amazing. I highly reccomend this resort for rest and relaxation with a hint of excitement.
Sincerely,
Deanna & Aaron
We felt that this hotel was a fantastic example of what one should expect from a 4/5 star resort! The grounds were phenomenal with wildlife all over. Maintenance personnel were also prominent on the grounds and building facilities, as were security personnel. Water and ice were available from purification systems, so no health concerns. COVID controls were utilized in all public areas and dining rooms and COVID testing was available on site! We felt safe and comfortable for the entire stay!! Gre[... read more]at time overall.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great Resort!
We had a great vacation! The resort is huge with lots of stuff to do.I only have 2 small complaints. When we first arrived the hotel may have been a little short staffed due to covid. The rooms all have jugs of bottled water in dispensers which I think is great! We did have to wait for water to be delivered.I had to ask 3 times. We also had to wait an hour to be served at the Italian restaurant but when we said something we were served right away and the food was good. We were treated like royal[... read more]ty for the most part. We tested positive at the end of the week and we were a little afraid, we have heard stories of people being moved to terrible rooms with bad food. That was not the case. We were moved to a very nice room with a big balcony and we were taken very good care of. We were called daily to see if we needed anything and the food they brought us was very good. Esteban the concieage was the best. He was so helpful and was willing to help in any way he could and came and checked on us regularly.

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya: Going Back!
Huge resort with a cozy intimate feel due to the lush grounds intricate design (and wildlife) that transform it. The people/staff are amazing and deserve tremendous credit. Little things like not having to make reservations for restaurants, or having to come down early morning to (reserve) get a great spot on the beach were a wonderful surprise to us. The evening entertainment was next level. (imagine an evening of art and entertainment taking place throughout the resort: dancers, singers, music[... read more]ians, food, stilt walkers, artists all dressed in elaborate costume). The food was for the most part was excellent with the occasional miss, but as good as any this 67 year old body has experienced at multiple resorts. I have been on better beaches (mostly in the Dominican) but this one was lovely and very well maintained. Security was excellent. The only surprise was the gentleman next door that returned to his room from the late night disco at 3am that had to repeatedly practice the F-Bomb and occasionally mentioned Putin. The most significant disadvantage to the resort, and it has nothing to do with the resort, is its distance from the airport. Its an hour at least depending on number of drop offs. Make sure your transportation is organized. Ours through Air Canada vacations was not.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Family Vacation
We had a family vacation with 6 adults and 6 kids between the ages of 8 and 1. The kids had a great time. The pools were wonderful and they enjoyed the hotdogs at poolside where the adults enjoyed the nachos and quesadillas. It is a large resort and there are not enough restaurants. Reservations were hard to come by and one restaurant we really wanted to go to was only open for lunch and at the opposite end of the resort from the kids pools. The food in the buffet was very good at every meal!

Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen: Disappointing expectations
The biggest disappointment is the absence of the beach, which you only realize when you get there, because the pictures on the website shows beautiful stretch of beach, but in reality there is no beach. The next disappointment is the smell from the seaweed.Third disappointment is long drive with multiple stops from and to the resort/airport.The next disappointment is the size of the place,it is advertised as a resort, but In reality it is not a size of resort, but a hotel.
Everything was of excellent quality: the service, food, drinks, sports activities, a la carte restaurants.
We also liked so much the coffee, snacks, sweets!
Would gladly go back next winter with family and friends.
Highly recommended!
Paradisus Playa del Carmen: Fantastic Family Resort
Overall we had a great family vacation ( travelling with 2 small children) at the Paradisus and we would recommend the resort to family /friends
The pros:
1. Fantastic staff! Everyone was so friendly and worked so hard to make everyone’s trip a great one.
2. Upgrade to reserve. Very happy we did this option! Having Rossana as a concierge was very helpful. She helped book all of our reservations for dinner and handled any requests we had super quickly. She also brought little surprises [... read more]to our daughter throughout the week which she loved.
In addition we loved having access to the additional restaurant Olio and reserve pool
3. Layout of the hotel. Very well designed making it easy to get to all of the different areas quickly
4. The food. Restaurant options ( other than the buffet) were awesome and better than other resorts we have been to in Mexico
5. I had heard some complaints about seaweed prior to coming but when we were here the beach was super clean and warm with plenty of spots to sit!
The cons :
1. Swimout and pool temperature. We upgraded to a swimout but wouldn’t do it again. Our sun beds were in the shade and the pool temperature was really too cold to make a lot of use of. In addition we found the pool temperature at all pools to be a little cold ( including the “ heated†reserve pool)
2. Towels- multiple times there were no towels available at the pool
All in all despite the few cons the resort is fantastic with such amazing staff! We would come back again!

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Awesome! Great value!!
We were looking for an inexpensive second winter getaway, so we choose Grand Serenis as it was half the price of what we usually pay. We were not sure what to expect but as it turned out we were very pleased. The staff was great, the resort was huge and well looked after. The rooms were typical of any resort and had no issues. The alcohol was a bit watered down but that was fine as the pool and beach bar servers kept the drinks topped up. The buffet was what to be expected (average) but the ala [... read more]carts were quite good except for the steak house. The steaks were very tough. The mixed grill at the steak house was much better than the T bone. Three ala carts were included with a 7-day stay, but we were told if we show up at the restaurant at the time of seating we may get in. This worked for us twice so we had 5 ala carts. The only thing that we didn't enjoy was the bus ride from the airport, it was quite long and we had to make several stops at other resorts. We touched down at the airport at 2:30 and did not get checked in until 6:45. This made for a long day. But, once there we enjoyed our 7-day stay!

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Good resort, wouldnt book with airtansat
Catalonia Royal Tulum: The people made the vacation
Catalonia Royal Tulum is a beautiful resort made even more special by the kind, caring and hard-working staff who always have a smile and a Hola! The beach is beautiful and provides a breathtaking walk of 4km, though the loungers are pretty much crammed together and you need to get one fairly early. The food was very good too. We liked that we could go to any a la carte we wanted to without a reservation (except Rauxa which we didn’t go to) since the buffet isn’t open for dinner other than [... read more]on Saturday for the Mexican night. Adelita’s, the Mexican a la carte, was our favourite. Unfortunately for the most part we didn’t enjoy the drinks and never had a decent margarita or mojito, but the juice bar at the beach was wonderful and a very good idea. I wish more resorts had one.
As for Covid, we had no concerns: masks were worn whenever people were inside or in close contact such as at the buffet. Hand sanitizer was provided and used everywhere, and getting our RAT Covid tests was easy and quick. We appreciated not wasting any of our precious sun time! And on that note we did decide to upgrade to BLoved so we could access the restaurant. After a few days of spending far too much time waiting for essentially the same food we could readily get at the buffet, we decided to forgo BLoved which was a very good decision. You could get pretty much anything you wanted without the upgrade. Really the only major con of this resort for us was the amount of smokers. As non-smokers we seemed to be the minority, often being surrounded by smokers no matter on the beach or at the evening show (where it was the worst). It is unfortunate that resorts don’t provide specific smoking areas as we have in ‘everyday’ existence. It sure would be appreciated. Overall though CRT is one of the best in the Mayan because it’s small but big in heart. Loved it there and will return.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: not as good, but still a great option!
we were at the original 2 years ago, at the time things were a tad better, only real current issue is lack of staff, other then that we still think its hard to beat for the money, ac vacations canceled our flight and we were moved, communication about what was going on was terrible.
Thanks to Susan Snider from tripcentral she was great especially when we were having issues with canceled fligh

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Amazing resort
We have been at this resort ten times. Each visit was amazing.
This visit “ during Covid “ was also amazing and we felt very safe during our stay. There were many changes because of Covid but they were for our protection.
The worst part of our vacation was the airports.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Upgraded to the Barcelo Maya Palace
When we arrived at the Barcelo Caribe we were told they were full and we were to go to the Barcelo Palace as an upgrade.
We had a fabulous time. It was myself, my husband and our 2 young adult children. We loved the Palace but our kids spent more time at the Caribe which was livelier and more going on for their age.
Room/staff: Fabulous - 2 double beds, 2 couches, patio to garden, wrist band key door openers, large bathroom 2 sinks, toilet and 2 showers with bathtub in each room.
Great co[... read more]vered walkways to everywhere. Very clean well kept grounds and areas. Staff friendly and helpful. If you leave a tip in the room fridge you will get xtra snacks.
Food: Much better at Palace than Caribe as we ate 2 lunches at the grills at Caribe/Tropical and our stomachs were upset after those. Stressful booking dinners at restaurants at night. Had to book the first day and only got choice of 3 restaurants at a time so had to go back 2 days in a row to book more. Unable to get restaurants the first 2 nights. Restaurants are the way to go for dinners. They were excellent even at the Tropicale.
Breakfast buffets were wonderful with omelettes, crepes and papaya, bagels, lots of variety
Lunches were a great variety at the Palace- hot and cold items
Dinners at buffet were good but preferred the restaurants. Loved the Kyoto - Japanese that cooked in front of you with a show. French- Bassiere - lots of seafood, Caribe - seafood, Rodizio - Brazilian steak which was ok, Italian at Tropical was good- pasta
Drinks all free at all bars.
Bring own insulated large drink container
Entertainment: Poor.
Spectacular arena at the Tropicale was all in Spanish every night. At the Palace one night was Mexican dancers - costumes were great but same dancing for 1/2 hour. Magic show was good. The other nights were only karaoke. Shows started at 9:30 pm. Not much to do at night here. Kids had more to do at the Caribe in the evenings-dance parties, sports bar etc.
Beaches: Fantastic. Bring water shoes as lots of rocks. Need a float or noodle for me for snorkelling. Bring snorkel.
Walked from Palace to Adult Only every morning on sidewalk on beach - approx 6000 steps for both ways about 35 min to do both ways. Lovely walk in the morning at 830. Had to get up at 8 to get beach chairs on the beach at the Palace- put towels and clips on chairs. Palm trees for shade so had to move the chairs around every 30 min or so to get shade. Water was warm, first few days were rolling waves then last few days was calm no waves and clear water. At that time near the palace you could stand by the rocks and didn’t need to snorkel and we saw a sting ray, 2 turtle swimming next to us , and multiple coloured fish by just standing near the rocks by shore. Lots of water sports to do - windsurfing, wave rider $20US per hour, kayaking, catamaran- have to go early in AM to stand in line to book time in day to use. Other things you can pay for - jet ski, scuba, snorkelling trip.
To Do: wave rider, skating, bowling, Mexican shopping mall - lots of stores to shop at inside and outside. Palace hotel also had lots of stores to wander in. Can take the free double decker bus around to all the Barcelo resorts. Swim with dolphins - 4 of them and the 15 min show is at 10:30 every morning. Cute show with jumps. Sport club screen to watch sports on, video- gaming screen . At pool areas had pilates, games starting at 2 pm dancing etc. Beach has beach volleyball. Kids water park at each resort and kids clubs at each resort with activities.
