Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Nice resort.

+ Amazing food (both selection and taste), service, and entertainment. + Everything was very clean and tidy. + Room was decent, not the nicest (a bit outdated) but still nice. + Great pools & pool games - Toilet in the room had a leak so there was always a bit of water on the floor. - I personally didn't like the view of the large mountain that was near by, it steals a bit of sunshine since that's where the sun sets (in turn saw no nice beach sun sets) - Description states "8 restaurants"  [... read more]but two are not included in the 'all inclusive' price; you can eat there but must pay for meals and one is open to the Dominican public ("for the rich" they say). - If you want to use the safe you have to pay for it ($3 American a day, not a huge deal but still a drag that you are hit with additional costs upon arrival. cost $25 CND for the week) - "Free wifi" only works in one area of the resort (outside the buffet restaurant), for one hour per day

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Great Resort

Vacation was January. Went with a group of 16. A couple of friends had a few minor hicups with initial room assignemnts, and receiving housekeeping services, also getting beach towels was a bit of a challenge. (Avoid the headache and just bring one with you.)However, once things were sorted out we all had a Fantastic Vacation!

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Great Beach

The hotel needs significant improvement , renovations are underway and poorly executed.Service and meals at speciality restuarants were amateur at best. E.g. kept running out of wine, in fact wine was in short supply in the 2 bars. The staff were very nice but they lacked training. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: average all-inclusive, won't re-visit

Grounds were lovely, lots of vegetation, no bugs, no issues with hot water, a/c, or cleanliness, room nice and big, housekeeping average, no flowers or fancy towel folding, but that's not why we travelled, lots of walking in this resort, wouldn't recommend to anyone with mobility issues or families with young children/strollers, etc. lots of stairs. Animation staff were scarce, would do a few dances but not very interactive with guests. In the evening, Would get a party started in the lob [... read more]by bar area and then 1/2 hr later want to move everyone over to another area of the resort which required shuttling 10 people at a time. Everyone had places to sit, drink in hand, having a good time, and they wanted to move the party so they could advertise their timeshare. No thanks. Food at buffets was plentiful, hot, and delicious but a bit repetitive. Casablanca is a little classier but same menu as Pearl. Wonderful delicious meal at the a la carte, Bellini. (Italian), but managers should have spoken to the rowdy table of 8 diners behind us who made it difficult for the two of us to share a conversation. Noise of golf carts and shuttles was irritating, and also smell of sewage/drainage was evident at times, the further you travelled from the beach. Wi-fi only in certain areas and cost extra $$. Bars were well-staffed and stocked, Henry at the Cheers bar was especially friendly. Thanks, buddy. Thanks to our Air Transat rep, Freddy for the friendly welcome and for taking care of all the details. Yabba-dabba-doo! Overall a wonderful week away with my husband to celebrate 25 yrs. Love the DR, but won't be returning to this resort.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: A VERY GOOD RESORT FOR THE MONEY

Stayed there Feb 3 -10, 2017. Had a very good time there, weather was perfect nice affordable resort. Pro's - Transportation from the Airport was not a problem, Transat had a representative to direct you to the buses going to your resort. Check in was easy, they have an envelope with your name containing your entry card to the room, TV controller, and map of the resort, Beautiful sandy beach, wonderful water temperature, lots of room on the beach, sandy bottom in the ocean. Food was very  [... read more]good at the buffet not large but plenty of food to choose from, a la carte Restaurants offered nice variety of food, the Italian Restaurant was excellent. Rooms were cleaned everyday with special attention to washing the floors. The pool and the area around were cleaned everyday. The landscaping was beautiful and well maintained. Plenty of alcoholic beverages to choose from. Staff were very friendly and accommodating when you needed any assistance. Con's - Only 16 umbrellas at the Beach, considering the size of the Beach could have plenty more. Cost is $3.00 US a day, never ever paid for the use of umbrella's at any resort before. The bathrooms in the rooms need to be totally updated especially the taps have seen better days. The Gardenview Room is a view of a small strip of grass and the next building, suggestion is get a room facing the pool. The area around the pool could use more chairs by 9:30 am not a chair to be found ,all reserved by patrons. In general the resort was a very pleasant experience would go back.

Everything was very nice, staff were helpful and courteous. Hard to get a lounge chaise at beach and pools and annoying that people would reserve their's with towels, but remain empty most of the day.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Amazing vacation

We were 6, 3 adults and 3 kids ranging from 17 to 4. We all had a good time. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The entertainment staff are amazing. The kids disco nightly is well organised to get all the kids involved and the shows after are also entertaining. The food was good. The rooms are clean with a nice sized balcony.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Wonderful resort

Was impressed from the start. Front desk helpful and greeted with a refreshing drink. Room was beautiful with a great view. Always was able to find something I wanted to eat and drink. Beach was kept clean. Public washrooms also kept tidy. Would absolutely stay again!

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Reasonably priced and well worth visiting.

This resort is one that will surprise you once you get to know all the corners of the property. Make sure you find the main buffet on the beach section of the resort. All amenities are easily accessible to all visitors of the resort and are within a short walk to the pools. The food was good and a good variety was available at all meals. The rooms were clean and well air conditioned. The service was polite and the English was good from most servers. We left with the idea of returning for 2 [... read more] weeks next time.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Nice Beach

We found this hotel to be rather noisy. Most nights there was very loud entertainment and it was difficult to sleep if we wanted to go to bed early. Also on several nights we were woken up by loud voices of drunk young people roaming around after 2am. This improved when we complained and were told security would monitor our area or we could move to a quieter area. The room was basic, but we were disappointed that we were expected to pay $16 American if we wanted to use the safe. Also there  [... read more]was no clock in the room. The beds should have had a lighter blanket as the duvet was much too warm to use. However, on the plus side, the grounds and room were very clean and well looked after. There were many organized activities such as yoga, aerobics, pool activities and games to participate in. We enjoyed the wonderful variety of food at the buffet and the good service. The staff was very friendly and eager to please.

Riu Merengue: Outstanding service!

Grounds were carefully taken care off everyday. People worked hard at whatever their job was. Maids at cleaning, servers at serving well and with a smile, reception at being helpful. We travelled with kids and absolutely every single service person made sure to play or be gracious with our kids. No one was creppy either. Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Amazing trip

First I'd like to say people that say negative things about this resort are crazy. This was our 7th time to bahia San juan first time back in 10 years and it was even nicer than I remembered so many improvements. Staff excellent Restaurants excellent We had a suite which is two rooms two bathrooms for the extra well worth it for our two week stay. We will definately be returning again. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Great experience

This is a huge resort with many employees. It covers any budget and any size of family. It was like a mini town itself. The entertainment team were really funny and had different activities each time. It was 4 of us that went on this trip. My friends didn't have a great start due to air conditioner not working in their room, but once changed it was a great experience. The food was great and delicious. The employees are very friendly and helpful! We would definitely go back!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Fabulous Week!

This hotel offers all you could possibly desire. The bang for your buck is a deal and you won't be disappointed. Incredible staff, beautiful grounds, delicious food, and a great time! Hope to return in the future!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Good value resort

Nice grounds, food was good, service wonderful. There are too many people trying to sell you something on the beach and at the resort The Dominicans are very friendly and service oriented. Large beach and pool. Restaurants good. Smaller resort, better to navigate

Casa Marina Reef Resort: The resort is one of the best ouce per bounce resorts in the D.R.

The Resort is after all a 3 1/2 star but could very well be a four. The landscaping is very beautiful with 3 pools to choose from. The grass is well kept with back drops of Palm trees everywhere. The high winds will create high incoming waves. Red flag warnings are common to stay out of the ocean waters. People do break their bones. The food/menu does repeat itself at the Resort but for the most part is very good. There are 2 al-acarts, a Mexican and Italian where the waiters serve you wine and [... read more] drinks. The service is quite good and for the most part requires a tip of a few (100)pesos. A lot of people don't- shame! The main dining area is a major food frenzy, people will take your table. Get there a few minutes before it opens and it will not be a problem. Sosua is the town just outside the Resort and can offer you some very nice restaurants with similar prices as here in Canada. When travelling in Sosua be very careful because there are many scam artists out there ready to take your Pesos. Never take more money then you need. A Friend of mine found a wallet in the front lobby of the hotel and handed in to the Hotel Management. After a hour he was called to the office and was informed that there was 3000 pesos missing from the wallet and to return this money he never took. The management told him the police would be in touch with him. They never came but it put a big damper on their vacation. Also, the D.R. Immigration police were picking up Tourists for not having their passports with them, taking them to the station demanding all their money. Immigration did apologize, it hasn't happen thereafter. One tip from us is to keep your passport in your safe, in your hotel room. Never carry your passport into Town with you and never hand it over to anyone without you being there. Common sense!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Good resort but not a pleasant trip

I enjoy most of my trips but did not enjoy DR. Beaches are all public so you get harrassed daily by local beach vendors, know one seems to know English so you have to learn Spanish and I am talking about bartenders etc. Cleaners always put my towel back when I would place it on the floor and never made my bed. They would fold the blankets and put it on the chairs or closet. I asked for new sheets and they just reused the same sheets that I spilled coke on. Beach was super rocky and dirty. Could  [... read more]not see anything but dark brown ocean. I have been on a few trips and enjoyed all of them except this one. One more thing, resort reps harrassed you to see their other resort through videos at a 60 minute presentation that I had to refuse more then once. If you are looking to relax than skip this resort or country all together. Only thing I enjoyed was food and the sun when beach vendor's left you alone.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Loved this resort

My husband and I have stayed at many different resorts in puerto plata. We really loved this resort and found it to be the cleanest resort. The food was good and the staff were very friendly. We will most certainly stay at this hotel again. Our room was absolutely beautiful and comfy, and didn't have the typically hotel room smell which all other hotels seem to have. We can't wait to go back.

The resort is nice,clean,safe,family oriented. The staff are all very friendly,security is excellent.Upon arriving,I happened onto an altercation occurring at the bar in the resort.The security handled it best I've seen anywhere with Noone getting upset but the two directly involved. For the single man a 5 min walk to the disco at the beautiful mall or a horse and buggy ride to the nearby "Field of dreams" will be very memorable.It is gated and guarded by a very friendly,hospitable gent [... read more]leman with a 12 gauge in one hand.The resort is small and very beautiful.
