Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Awesome resort

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. The food was excellent with a wide variety of different foods. Rooms and room service and housekeeping was excellent. The staff was amazing, always happy and willing to please. The goundkeepers were great too, always working hard to keep everything looking neat. I will definately be returning to this resort.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Overall Great resort

The grounds were well kept. The food was awesome. The rooms and buildings are starting to look a bit dated , but still kept extremely clean. The rooms need coffee makers in them. Staff very nice. Overall a great resort but not 5 star.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: beautiful resort

I really enjoyed this resort, lots of pools to choose from, lots of a la cartes, the grounds were beautiful. I did not have any issues with my room, although i heard others did not have hot water. The staff was amazing, always helpful and always a smiling face to greet you. The only issue one may have at this resort is the steps. We had someone in our party who had a knee issues. There were approx 85 steps in all from our room to the lobbly, not all in one go, spriatic but anyone who has a probl [... read more]em with stairs or steps would find this resort frustrating. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Awesome Time in DR!

We had an amazing time at the Cofresi! Food was great, lots of options. Try the Italian and the Brazilian a la cartes and they were both fantastic. Lots of other comments mention a smell, which was only noticeable when walking past a sewer so this did not bother us. Yes, there are lots of stairs (all the better to burn off all the food and alcohol in my opinion), the resort is not very friendly to those with mobility issues but there are shuttles and alternatives to the stairs if required. Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Wonderful Resort!!

We loved every minute of our stay at the resort!! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had a beautiful wedding on the beach and were very pleased with all the details provided for by the wedding coordinator! We will definetly return!!

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Cofresi Palm Beach Report & Spa

My hubby and I were at this resort from Jan 26-Feb 3/17, I have travelled throughout the Caribbean as well as on cruise ships so this is not my 1st time out of Canada. I hope this will give you a well rounded idea of what the resort is like. We had a great time but remember you create your own experience no matter where you are! There was lots to do, you can book tours with the travel centre right at the resort or stay, relax or be entertained nightly with the nightly show. Let me break it do [... read more]wn for you. LAYOUT The resort is massive, you can walk or take the shuttle buses within the resort. The resort is on multi levels with lots of stairs and walking paths. Make sure you don't take the shuttle with the men with safari hats they are very pushy to get you to buy into the resort. If you do, just stay your ground and tell them you are not interested and only want a ride to your destination. We stayed in the convenience block 204-015. It was a couple of sets of stairs away from the lobby, buffet and next door to a pool. ROOMS Very clean, our maid Rosa took good care of us. Our tv broke and she had it swapped out within hours. We had a couple days of hot, lukewarm and cold showers but there was always lots of water every day. We shut off our air conditioner to avoid the musty smell coming from it by taking off the cover and fiddling with it. We slept very comfortable with only the ceiling fan on. Being on the ground floor the room stayed cool. FOOD There was lots of it and I never starved - I actually put on weight. Being lactose and gluten intolerant there was always ample food to chose from- fish, chicken, beef, pork, veggies, fruit, deserts as well as breads, pasta that I couldn't eat. The waiters/waitresses were always eager to please. POOLS There are many pools, more than you will probably swim in. It was nice to have an adult only pool (and a kids only pool) a pool by the beach and a pool by our room. Every pool had a bar/washrooms right there or one very close by. There was no shortage of lounger chairs; however, if you want a bed in the VIP or 'common areas' as I call it, you will need to get up earlier than I ever did! BEACH/OCEAN The beach is not huge but you can always find a spot on it. The yellow (caution) flag flew every day so there was small rolling waves and the water was stirred up and not clear but the water was about 80c. We walked down the beach to the rocks by Ocean World and the water was always calm, crystal clear and bath temperature. If you find the right path, (about where the public beach starts, the water is crystal clear and light turquoise in colour between the seagrass) the water is shallow and you can actually walk out quite far into the ocean. In some places it looks like you are walking on the water from the beach while you are about 30 feet out in the water. The other end of the beach was also nice to explore on the rocks. There are several shops along the beach so take some money, massages are $30/hr or at least twice that on the resort. If you wear water shoes so you can walk around the rocky areas at either end of the beach. The area is filled with sea urchins in coral, small fish, crabs and the water is only knee deep. What a great experience especially for someone who doesn't want to snorkel. Like anywhere, don't leave your valuables open and unattended- tourists like that stuff too! Most of all a smile and a good attitude will take you farther than your money ever will.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: It's a solid 4.5

I grade based on if I would go back and the answer is YES. Staff is excellent and just a great entertainment crew. It's small so you can get to know fellow guests. Restaurants are not 5 star but the buffet has good variety every night with theme nights. Yah you pay for Internet and the in room safe and $10 to refill the mini frig but no biggie. Never a line for anything. All in all a great value for the money

We had a wonderful time....very clean, rooms were always spotless and we had the best cheery maid....the food was amazing, especially the a la cart restaurants!!! The beach was not the best although they did rake it in the morning...

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Fantastic resort

The hotel was beautiful, the property was well taken care of . The staff was very helpful if needed anything. They had great choices of food ..the waiters were amazing very hospitable. The nightly entertainment had a great variety. Always keeping you entertained. The beach party cookout was a nice surprise. The rooms were kept cleaned and well stocked. We would definately return..also recommend this 5*resort.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Nice Resort

The resort was nice, but check in was somewhat disorganized. People had rooms booked that weren't available, requiring the guests to bunk with others in their group until rooms became available. One person in our group had booked a superior room with accessibility for people with disabilities. She had paid a significant amount for the upgrade, but was given a standard room with no accessibility (no grab bars in the bathroom, bathtub which she couldn't access due to mobility issues, etc.). Sh [... read more]e was finally moved on day four into the room she had booked and paid for...this for a seven day booking. The other person (40 years old) in our group ended up having to share a room with her parents due to the resort having overbooked. Another family of five (not part of our group) ended up sharing a room because of overbooking. We found the staff in general friendly, and we did enjoy the facility once we settled in. If they can sort out their overbooking of rooms, I would recommend this resort. Otherwise, no.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Only worth it if you get it cheap

The grounds were lovely. Rooms somewhat dated but comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Insufficient beach chairs for such a large hotel. People constantly searching for a beach chair or stealing your chair if you get up for a drink. Food not so great. Too salty also. Beach horrible. Water brown and full of sea weed. Will not go back.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Viva Heavens, Puerto Plata

The hotel is small and quaint. We liked it better than some of the very large resorts we've been to. Our room was beautiful. There is a sewage lagoon along side the walkway to the beach. It always had a gross sewage smell. That was a real turn off. You could see grey water flowing into it from the hotel. Something needs to be done to correct that issue. Staff was fabulous. Food was good. Not great but good. Beach area needs to be cleaned regularly. Plastic bags, plastic bottles, [... read more] cigarette butts and other refuse littered the beach area. Daily clean up would solve that problem. Many beach loungers were broken. A pocket full of small bolts, washers and nuts would solve that problem.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Animation staffs make the difference

Travelled with my husband and 2 daughters (4 and 2 years old). The staff from animation team are really awesome (specially Wilki). The girls from the Kids Club (Scarlett and the one giving bracelets to my daughters) were extremely great. All of them played, looked after and payed a lot of attention to us and to my kids. They make us feel really happy and relaxed. Bravo for the animation team!! The bartenders at the jacuzzi area are very rude and serve you with bad manners, also speak spanish a [... read more]t the customers back complaining all the time. Rooms are very clean and food is really good. My husbands cell phone was stolen at the bar by the disco and a towel at the pool. Umbrellas at the beach are not included. Have to pay cash to get one.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Worth the money

Great beaches, great pools, but mediocre rooms. We switched to ocean view midway through our trip. View is the only difference between rooms. The great view comes at a cost though, as most of the resorts activities are located right outside your room, so unless you're a party animal dont expect a quiet nights rest. Phones were broken in both rooms we stayed in and were never fixed, so when our towels were taken we had to walk to the lobby and then wait twenty minutes for them. Food wasn't terrible, but as a vegetarian, pasta comes a bit repetitive after the 3rd day. You can expect the same food every day at every meal time. Prepare yourself to be harassed by staff members to buy excursions, souvenirs, photos and hair braiding multiple times a day. They set up tables on vendor night right infront of the buffet hall so getting to dinner is an obstacle. Not enough umbrellas or beach chairs. Staff was friendly, property was clean, resort only a ten minute drive from airport.

We had a great time at Bahia Principe! The resort was clean and comfortable. The pools were amazing and the staff were extraordinary! I would recommend this beautiful place to anyone for their vacation.

Overall, this resort was wonderful. Beautiful grounds, rooms, pools, night life, staff, and beach. My one concern was that unfortunately, we experienced a very bad sand flea problem and got many uncomfortable bites.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Great time

We had a great time here.the room we had was a suite next to the beach and was amazing. The TV downstairs of the room didn't work and the water in shower was lukewarm all week but that wasn't really a big deal.we found the food pretty good but the same most of the week.The Pizza at beach bar amazing!! Staff had my kids up playing and swimming they were great.I liked this resort for the kids and really have no complaints.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Good Resort

This resort was a good place to stay. The buffet was good and the a la cartes were great. The grounds were very well kept and the beach and pool was nice and clean with lots of chairs available. The staff was not as friendly as I have seen in other resorts however we did not have any bad experiences with staff. The only thing that could use improvement was the stocking of the fridges in our room. There were days when we did not receive water or beverages and receiving only two alcoholic bev [... read more]erages is just not enough for two people in a room. Even when asked for more beverages our request was not always acknowledged. Overall we had a great time at this resort.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Wonderful first time experience in Puerto Plata area

We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day stay at this resort, we were totally amazed at the entire experience from booking our resort to our stay. Cannot say how much we were pleased with resort, staff, food amazing, service of the entire resort, we have nothing but compliments for the whole place......never encountered any problems at all....would definitely come back again

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Beautiful Resort

Overall very good. Many lawn chairs on beach were broken on the back and some of them were hard to get out of. They could use new ones. The staff and food was excellent. The food and staff were very good.
