Club Amigo Mayanabo: Horror Story

I was aware that the hotel was a very old property and the grounds people and cleaning people are doing a good job with what they have to work with. It is very rundown and in a huge need a total makeover. My room had great A/C and hot water but other than that it was a wreck. Very badly painted the bathroom was in need of some major work, the mirror looks like it was installed when the hotel was built about 40 odd years ago. I do not think the bedding was changed all week as there was a mark on a sheet on the one bed I noticed the first day and it remained there for the full week. My room had three beds so I just moved to another. Granted the towels were changed daily. The maid was very pleasant to deal with and she was under severe management restraints so I can not blame her. The SUNWING site rates it 3.5 personally my rating would be 1.0 because I cannot go lower. The food was passable but barely. Liver was served 4 times in one week not a nice option. Beef was like eating shoe leather with a bad flavour. Chicken was really hit and miss as it was cut into such small pieces you could not tell what piece you were choosing. Roast pork warmed on the grill was ok but very dry in typical Cuban fashion over cooked. Smoked lag of pork (ham) was the best option of the week. Pasta was prepared as you waited with a very watery sauce. Again service was very good and I do not blame the employees. My two waitresses were excellent Yanaisy and Linet and very pleasant to deal with as well as the cooks. My one waitress was speaking to myself at length and she was told by the Captain that she could not speak with the clients as I understand Spanish I was not happy. This builds great customer relations. There was only one bar at the resort and generally service was very bad at one point waiting 15 minutes for a drink. One bartender and was overloaded with work. What they call the other bar area really had nothing. If you wanted a hot dog or hamburger past 3:00 pm. with bread you were usually out of luck. There was great coffee available though. Beer was available for a cost at $1.00 per can as there was only draught beer available at one location and long waits. Bottled water had to be purchased it was not included. The front desk staff were just horrific seemed almost as they were doing us a favour whenever they were approached. The beach was clean but entering the water was a nightmare for all of the seaweed. The worst part is no guests are allowed in the hotel even after I paid for my friend for 1 week. No explanation and was just told she was not allowed. ON the SUNWING page talks about enjoying a Margarita best of luck with that. Finding rum at times was difficult I have no idea about tequila.

Carisol los Corales: Just my own exoerience

FLIGHT. I flew to Holguin by Transat. Huge relief when it was over. One has to be four feet tall or shorter to fly like a human, not like anchovy in a can. Many firms are shamelessly greedy packing people like animals, but this Transat is the champion among them. Be as short and tiny as possible, while dealing with them. TRANSFER. My transfer from Holguin to the hotel had left without me. I had to take a taxi from Holguin. It is 200km and $150 by horrible wreckage-car. I finally arrived to the  [... read more]hotel at 4 AM, and being not exactly happy. NOISE. They put me in a room with windows looking at the pool. It was OK until “entertainment” people start yelling through an amplifier on those in the pool at 10 AM. So, I could not hear nothing in the room, like TV. Almost all clients of this hotel are Cubans, they like it very loud, nonstop; better if it is from several different sources. I asked to put me some place as far from the pool as possible. They did it. SURVIVING. It is a long boring story to tell all. I changed rooms twice because of broken locks, air conditioners and TVs. We had many shutdowns. The last three days I had no running water. But there was nothing live threatening, thanks. FOOD. It is a typical Cuban low end, three stars. CORAL REEF. It is 600 meters long and located in 100-150 meters from the shore. Some rip currents are presented. Be careful while snorkeling. The reef itself is pretty interesting. You can look at my photos. But all edible wildlife is already eaten. HIKING. There is the Baconao lagoon nearby, a big saltwater lake. A pretty picturesque desert dirt road is circling this lagoon. North part of the road in usual agricultural one, but South brunch is made as tourists’ attraction. It has several organized entrances to the water and is mostly shadowed by trees. There are very few bugs here and no traffic. You can make a hike of 4-16 km, but look at Google map first. WEATHER in AUGUST. No rains, not much of winds, 33-35C at 3pm, 23-26C at sunrise.

Carisol los Corales: Very comfortable resort

This is a pleasant resort. The food is not bad but can become boring. There is usually chicken, beef and pork. And lots of vegetables. Other days you may find fish or liver at the grill. The beach is beautiful and quite large but there are limited areas where to enter into the ocean. The shows in the evenings are usually pretty good. Some of the shows are run by the local entertainment staff. Other shows are from dance groups from Santiago. I am pleased with this resort and return often. Its loc [... read more]ation is one hour away from Santiago. The location in the mountains is excellent. I am always happy to return to this resort.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Great getaway!

I was first in a standard room, which I do not suggest unless you plan on only sleeping in the room. If you want to have an amazing room take a villa. After upgrading to a villa I was extremely impressed with this 3 star resort. Spectacular clean rooms, cleaned extensively daily, the kindest staff, and great food. I would definitely be coming back!

Club Amigo Mayanabo: Good resort

Hotel rooms are small and kept fairly clean. Excellent landscaping. Beach very nice. Food was okay except that the menu was same every day. Overall my personal experience has been fairly good. ..............................................................................................

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Great memories

Lots to pick from for food , always can find a nice glass of wine or a cool glass of beer , rooms were clean and refreshing , resort is a bit spread out but always enough close by to meet your needs . I’d upgrade from the beginning don’t waist your time doing it there . The ladies are wonderful but victor not so much .. I would go back just not tomorrow.. 😊

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: good

resort was old and outdated. No fresh water left in the room. Parts of the resort were either closed or shut down for the season, very disappointing.Very slow service at the main pool bar. The lobby bar was great with great service but was so hot you couldn't stay, felt bad for the workers at this bar as there was NO air circulation.

If i have a chance ,i will come here again to enjoy the beach and the weather . Such a gentle staff and great hotels . Food is not bad ,but they need to change every week . Quiet and beautiful place to visit and enjoy

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Good Resort

Good hotel with a lot of locals. A few bars, one open 24 hours, some staff are great others not so much. Not a lot of staff trying to get any sports going or anything like that, there was a couple things in the pool, but no volleyball in the water or anything like that. There was a bubble party in the pool so that was fun. All in all, I had a good time.

It was ALOT better then I expected for a 3 star. In Cuba usually the food is ...... but I must say that for a picky eater my plates were always full, and eatable. I was also expecting the rooms to be so so. There again they got me, redone bathroom with hot water. Beds were hard. Stayed in the tropical section main hotel. Yes grands public aria to much people dining room not to much food always miss the dishes but the worker is good people the bar and cafe bar is clean but close before 22h sink bar is ok but always one gays is work there and to much clint so for next time I chose memory’s hotel whit my Friend and Family

Carisol los Corales: Cuba getaway

This is our 3rd time to this resort and was just as good. Slow season so no waiting for drinks. Food ... it's Cuba but still edible. Missed seeing franseco at the pool bar shout out to Ivan the life guard/bar tender 😁

Hotel Caracol: Another Great Holiday

This was our third visit to Caracol and we had a great time.The weather was perfect, the beach was amazing and the food was very good.We arrived at the resort after 11 p.m but the restaurant was kept open for us for late supper.We were welcomed by the staff like family.This resort welcomes families,couples and older clients who mingled very well together.The resort is "seniors" friendly with ramps,walk-in showers and easy access to all the facilities. Carisol los Corales: Very Disappointing

I wish I had better things to say about the 10 days I spent at this resort but unfortunately....I don't. I was ready to come home after just a few days there. I realize this was an inexpensive trip and not a five star....BUT....so many things were misleading. There really is no swim area at the ocean, because it is all weeds, most of the staff were miserable and unfriendly, it was full of aged male tourists with very young Cuban hookers, no juice at any of the bars to have any sort of tropical d [... read more]rink....they had orange pop and cola only, the buffet consisted of mostly cabbage and rice dishes and very poor qualities of meat. The first room smelled so bad of must and mildew, I had them move us and the second room was better. The pool area was nice, the young lady that cleaned our room was very good. I have been to other parts of Cuba and never experienced this.

Carisol los Corales: Great resort for the price

Positives: Every staff member was very polite, and genuinely seemed to be happy to help. The resort is older but the staff worked hard to maintain the landscaping and keeping the beach clean. The beach was smaller and the water had a lot of rocks/broken coral/urchins but it made for interesting snorkelling, was clean and we had plenty of space on the beach since it wasn't crowded. They didn't have running water the first night in our room (second floor) but it was fixed by the next morning. Food was typical Cuban fare. Sometimes limited selection and they would run out of some items but there was always plenty of food in general.

Carisol los Corales: Hidden gem on the south side of Cuba

This is not most spectacular hotel, in fact is was very typical for most of Club Amigo hotels in Cuba. The great grounds crew made the hotel feel lush and tropical. The beaches very fairly nice as well, sandy with few rocks and coral to watch out for. We were there at the end of April so the weather was absolutely perfect. Low 30's during the day, low 20's at night. Being low season, the hotel was fairly empty and as a result, some of the extra al la carte restaurants were closed but there [... read more] was enough food to choose from at the main buffet. The best part for us was the snorkeling right of the beach. It was a very easy dive with waters being no more than 3 meters at its deepest. With a reef 50 meters, majority of the waves never make it in so you get crystal clear waters to see all the schools of fish. We identified over a dozen different types of fish and crustaceans. There is also lots of fishing just beyond the reef for the avid fisherman. The hotel is just under an hours drive from Santiago Airport so you don't waste a lot of hours in the bus.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Amazing resort

People are friendly at the resort, felt comfortable when I stayed there. Room are clean, AC works well. Beautiful white sandy beach and enjoyed sailing. Keep your belongings with you cuz local people around. Food okay for 3 star. I may go back next year.

having gone to this resort over 30 times,for the most part we have always been fairly pleased. this time however, we felt it to be lacking in several areas. first I should say that the staff are amazing as always, which probably has a large part in why we keep coming back here.in the main lobby you cannot get a glass or cup,only plastic. this is not really a great experience with hot coffee! the other bar in the lobby is where you can get a glass or cup but the location of this is terrible fo [... read more]r air flow(there is none!) ice was almost impossible to get anywhere at anytime as most of the machines on the resort were broken down.it is as though nothing is being repaired or maintained. the villas badly need attention as the paint is peeling and flaking off the walls. we are aware that this is a 3* resort and we do not expect more than that but certainly not less! perhaps a new manager with a different outlook as to the direction of this resort would benefit both staff and guest!! as an afterthought I would like to add that out of the four pools, not one was clear to see the bottom. all had vey murky water.

Hotel Caracol: Great resort

Rooms are great. Food very goods ( strange for Cuba ). Grounds very good. I have stayed in many resorts in Cuba. By far this is the best I have been to. The only negative would be the coffee was not top notch. I do expect this at a Cubain resort

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Would recommend

Overall, the complex was clean and well maintained. Hot water was not a problem and our room's a/c worked well. Buffet and speciality restaurants were up to Cuban standards. Nothing fancy and service was very good. Even had diet cola. All pools were maintained fairly well, but finding shade was a challenge. Awesome beach.
