Club Kawama

Cant wait to go back. The staff were attentive and seemed very happy to be working. My only complaint was the food. Even though it was very fresh, it was very bland. Bring your own Hot Sauce...lol Room were clean and well looked after. The better you tip the better service you get. But I didn't mind. They sure do love Canadians.

Trip number 5, in November

This resort is better each time I visit, I don't go for the food but it is average, but good for Cuba. Main pool is amazing, and so is the staff. Rooms vary but have never had to change due to a ( bad ) room....this resort is very large, I prefer a room close to the pool, lobby, beach and buffet.

GREAT priced getaway

Club Kawama was a very central point and we enjoyed the beach and pool and the BAR was super, as were the staff, It is an easy walk to the local flea markets and transportation on the Hop and Go bus. We had a great vacation and will return someday again.

Great time!

This was a great resort...the food..the resort..the drinks..the staff..the entertainment..everything was great!!! The room was clean and served it's purpose..a place to sleep and shower....if you spent any more time than that in your room you are doing Cuba wrong!!! The staff were all super friendly and helpful..especially our waiter Leo..the best!!!! Cannot wait to return next year!!!

Good for the price!

The hotel had great entertainment, food was okay, rooms weren't the best but made them work. Maids were great! Bar service could be a little slow at times. I wouldn't mind going back if I wanted a budget vacation!

Great vacation

Don't expect 4 or 5 star quality but for the price, this is a good resort. Great beach with no issues getting space to sit any time of day. Food was ok, rooms were not bad. Tip the staff and they will provide smiling service! We were at the far end of the resort so we had a great spot for food, drinks, and an almost private pool and beach. Disappointed

Upon our arrival the staff at the reception desk were not friendly at all except for Leida. We've been to Cuba numerous times always feeling welcome. We felt like an inconvenience at Kawama. We had an excellent room right on the beach. Our girls room was in the building next to us. They had issues with the tub backing up very gross "stuff" then both of our buildings had no water! Plus they had overbooked at Kawama and there seemed to be allot of locals. So we decided to move to Villa Cuba. We were so glad we did. The staff were excellent, food was great, rooms were wonderful. We plan to go back to Villa Cuba in December! Kawama had a great beach. Kawama is right in Varadero so you can walk to the market & bars if you're into that plus there was an excellent pasta/pizza place beside Kawama. If you ever go there ask for Leida. She is a wonderful lady.

Not quite as planned

I was booked into Kawama from April 21-27, 2014. When I arrived at the hotel, I (and others) were told that they were overbooked and that we were to stay down the road at the ROC Barlovento. Long story short, I didn't like the Barlovento but was able to get a wristband so that I could use Kawama's facilities. I cannot comment on the rooms as I did not get to stay there, but I did see inside two other guests' rooms, one in the 4000s and one in building 16. The room in 16 was "nicer" and overlooke [... read more]d the pool, but the 4000 building had its merits, too; it had its own pool, bar and restaurant and felt like it was its own hotel! The room was not as "nice", but was doable. The staff:Awesome. I had smiles from everyone. The ladies at the front desk were charming to me, and I was amazed at the buffet staff, too (I only ate in the buffet twice for breakfast, at at El Brocal for another). The omelette guy was a sweetie, and the wait staff was efficient and friendly, the exact opposite of those at Barlovento. The food: I only had three breakfasts here, and ate lunch at the snack bar a couple of times. I was very pleased with everything I had. Apparently the food in the buffet goes downhill at every meal, but I've found that to be true at any AI. The beach: Absolutely beautiful. Lots of shade under palapas, and many chairs, though some were in dubious repair. I hit the beach early, so I was always able to find one in good enough shape. The drinks: Very good! My favourite bar was the lobby bar, though it would have been nice if the "no smoking" policy had been enforced. Cuba sure attracts all of the smokers of the world. :o( Anyway, they made a lovely sangria and always with a smile. Fernando at the beach bar was a great guy to spend time with as well. No beer at the beach bar or lobby bar--you could only get that at the pool bar. The entertainment: They had live music everywhere. I'm not sure if it was due to the conference going on or if that's the way it always is, but it was nice to sit at the buffet at lunch or in the evening, listening to the band. Location: Fabulous! So nice having the bank, shops, and restaurants so close. Try Kiki's or La Sangria for great pizza and lobster. I would like to get to Kawama again and actually stay there. I was impressed with the beach and the people.

Not a good time

The staff was rude unless you spoke Spanish . The resort was so big it took ten minute just to walk to your room , no transportation provided. Air conditioner broke down called to have it fixed each day they said the would send someone and no one every came . Very small selection of food choices . I don't recommend this resort , on te plus side the beach was amazing and cuba is a beautify place to visit just the resort was a disappointment . 4 different couple during are week stay moved to other [... read more] resorts . Classic Cuban Resort

The original part of Club Kawama was built in 1930 so there's lots of history there. The beach was beautiful and Fernando at the beach bar made mojitos with mint he bought fresh from the market each morning. The buffet & restaurants were good and the live music was excellent; a 6 piece band at the buffet and a female trio at the Italian restaurant.

Nice pool ! decent food good location

the pool is nice ,to bad they didn't offer some newer loungers by the ocean! overall the place is okay , make sure you spend the extra for the upgraded rooms!!!! that's a must ! location is great no fear of leaving the but the mosquitoes are a nightmare ( BRING SPRAY ) and dont open your windows , food on the resort is actually pretty good but you have lots of choice near by that very inexpensive.

Fantastic resort

My sister and I stayed at Club Kawama for one week in February. We've had an amazing experience! The food was delicious and had a great selection. We participated in all the activities the hotel had to offer and enjoyed all of them. The beach and the water were clean. The staff was friendly and professional. We recommend Club Kawama because they offer almost anything you need in any resort but with a very affordable price.

Very good resort close to downtown

Very helpful people, friendly Close to downtown Rooms clean and well looked after Service was very good and I enjoyed the entertainment close at hand and the night life. people are so friendly it makes you not to go home. Would go there again.

LOVED IT

The hotel staff was amazing, food was good to great. Some buildings were still in renovations but what had been completed was beautiful and they kept the area neat and tidy. Always saw staff walking grounds keeping it clean. Staff was friendly and helpful, always willing to help and chat. Location was within walking to market, or to take enjoyable taxi or carriage ride. We are returning to the same site, no point in taking a chance to be somewhere unhappy

A Beautiful Spot in a Beautiful Country

Club Kawama is simply gorgeous! It is one of the oldest resorts in the Varadero region, and has a good mix of historical flavour and modern amenities. Good for the money

Room was clean, Food So So (plenty of good and reasonably priced restaurants with in walking distance even Chinese :) Staff were pleasant and helpful always working around the resort. Location close to town and beachfront property is amazing :)

Friendly and relaxing resort

Covers large ground area to walk around, rooms are clean and staffs are friendly, foods are okey with plenty of fruits, nightly entertainments are enjoyable, beaches are nice and long with a lot of activities to choose from, great resort.

It's perfect

It's perfect for hanging out close to downtime varadero. Friendly staff. They could bring around a bottle of water to the rooms. Great beach Cuba rocks!! Kawama rocks. Love it......., let's party Cuba kawama style

Great resort!

The location of the resort was the best. It is close to varadero downtown. The food was pretty good. You can always find something for yourself. The beach and water was very clean. Our room wasn't the greatest, however I saw the upgraded rooms which are a little more expensive but they are worth to pay some extra. I was missing a bar in the pool. Also, stuff should be informing people little more about the night disco because it was empty. The price was right for this place.

Fair

is just ok, it will be much better once their work is finish, beach side is very very good, I hope people will stop leaving their empty glasses on the site once finish. Not just in Kawama impolite people seem to do it in every hotel.
