Awful resort, very bad service

The beach off course is excellent, the service was very bad and the food even worst. The restaurants were really bad also, not prepared for infants, and I had to change the room because the first one didn't have any basic conditions

Beautiful beach!

Had a great stay! One of the best beaches along the strip! Great staff.. Always smiling! Makes your stay that much more enjoyable! Need to upgrade their bathroom facilities. Clean rooms and nice grounds. Food is typical. Love the chicken fillets!

Wonderful time!

We had a wonderful time! Excellent value for the price. Loved the beach, our renovated room and the Cabana reataurant for lunch.The weather was an outstanding 28 degrees. Public washrooms were disappointing (toilets broken etc) and I did not enjoy the food but I was expecting this.

Not bad

The grounds were kept beautifully, the pool definitely needs updating, repair and cleaning. The food was alright (best at the beach ). Room was fine, spacious and clean. Drinks were NOT good at all. Resort is in a great location. Entertainment was awesome. Beach, of course, was stunning....and clean. Staff was fine....saw one waitress roll her eyes when an elderly couple gave her a ziplock bag of basic essentials (tooth paste, tooth brush, etc)...obviously she was looking for money instead. Over [... read more]all, our vacation was alright but our children wanted to spend time in the pool but the pool was quite dirty with all sorts of debris like cigarette butts, papers, plastic cups, broken tiles, etc.

A Great Escape

The room was clean and shower/toilet had no concerns. The layout of the resort was simple even for its size. The staff were friendly. The evening entertainment was great. The buffet was plentiful with a wide variety that would please anyone. I loved the soft sand on the beach and into the ocean. I would definitely like to return.

Not even close to 4 star

Poor service and food. Attempts to rejuvenate hotel are evident under the new management but it will take time. It is Varadero after all so I am not sure if the attitude of the employees will ever change. It's getting worst year after the year. Hotel grounds are being worked on and management is trying hard.

Average Resort

The best of Cuba are the Cubans, I've been in Cuba 14 times. I can say this hotel needs some renovation in most areas example, rooms, pool, restaurant. Our room was not ready had to wait hours, went we got to the room the sliding door handle was broken, didn't lock. The walls were badly broken and chipped, no beach towels for two days. We request a different room, did not feel safe in that room with the sliding door broken. We recommend this hotel to people are not fussy.

Under renovation & not told by Air Transat Will not be completed for Winter Getaways Rooms not clean Entry door has to be pushed HARD to enter, slammed to close Patio Door no locks, big gap to allow bugs in Restaurant Eldarado food ALWAYS COLD After tables used hard to find staff to clear them & reset No variety in menu Food always undercooked Toaster out of order for last 4 days we were there Not enough staff. Few waiters would go the very short distance to the lobby bar to get us drinks Public [... read more] washrooms @ pool bar Men's being retiled all week & still ongoing men then using women's LOBBY washrooms Men's only one or 2 urinals working Always smelt dirty in there & or urine Ladies rarely had soap for 2 days only 2 of 5 toilets working GYM closed for renovation as was kids play area Retailing of hut tables @ pool took place all week Always had the noise of construction from daylight until sunset People go away for peace & quiet BEACH BAR- charges for beer That's not ALL INCLUSIVE POOL BAR great service & had most edible snacks Great Service CHECK-OUT At noon told there were guest rooms to freshen up in before bus arrives to the airport @ 6:30pm. ONE GUEST ROOM NO bus arrived @ 6:30 By 7pm 2 of us ladies went to lobby reception to Enquire about our late bus Asking the staff to Enquire as to it's where abouts They did not seem interested in our problem Called the emergency cell # for our Air transat rep ONLY ANSWERING MACHINE 3 times I at 7:30 called airport to tell them if necessary hold our flight(answering machine) Asked desk to call the hotel manager to come to the desk we wanted to talk to him She walked away from that request, then about 5 mins later she was on the phone to him. We got NO feedback & no manager 7:50 bus arrived with personnel telling us no bus had been ordered for us Survey our group from Ottawa at best honey would give this resort a 2 star maybe if Air Transat had been honest & told us that the resort was under Reno 95% of us would have not booked at this resort From AIR TRANSAT we deserve some kind of compensation But if not then this whole review has fallen onto deaf ears

Great time!! great food!!

Hotel was great for a Cuban resort! The drinks werr great, pool was fun, and food was outstanding!!. I was always eating 2 plates for breakfest lunch and dinner. Loved to swim with dolphins and drive in old cars to the city. I bought some cigars and rum is very cheap! The beach is amazing!!

1st trip to cuba,wont be my last

Great experience,food was pretty good,staff remarkable.There are many in North America that could take a lesson from the Cubans when it comes to customer service.The staff were not imposing,but they were right there when you needed something.Most beautiful beach I've ever seen,the Atlantic was warm.We had a great time.Well worth the money.Looking 4ward to next year.

Resort needed maintenance

I have been in same resort twice before and it was fine however this time wasn't as good as before. In the future I will try other hotels. Service is average but could be better. People is friendly but premises not

Very nice

This is nice place for families to enjoy , internet system was not good , no WiFi. Food was good and there was no brand name fish like salmon , trout or halibut. They have herbal tea but not regular green or black tea. People on reception trying to cheat you while exchanging money and on telephone for making phone calls outside. All other staff and the people or friendly.

Nice resort

Very friendly staff. Good food. Gorgeous beach well managed hotel. Good value for your money all you need is a bathing suit suntan lotion just relax. This was our second trip to playa de oro this year and they treated us very well

Great resort for its price

We enjoyed our vacations in this hotel! Great beach, wide choice of food even for breakfast, compared to other hotels of the same level. Great night animation including a spectacular aquatic show. As for me, the only disadvantage was a poor choice of fresh natural juices. What they called juices were often some artificial beverages made of chemical concentrates. In general, we would recommend this hotel to our friends.

Pathetic

Workers hated tourists Electrical fire outside my room, black smoke in my room Items were stolen from room if no tip was there Food was entirely GARBAGE and took 1 hr to receive Pay extra, go Mexico!!

Wonderful Resort

Very impressive grounds, villas and great general layout. The resort is well kept and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our family, of two young kids, had a wonderful time and enjoyed the cuban food. The efforts on other foods was not that great really. Evening entertainment was family friendly as well as daytime activities. Access to the beachase and the beach were the very very best part! We felt safe and

Good resort for the money

This is the older resort, but the rooms are good, and always clean. The only bad thing is the A/C, but, usually maintenance is quick to fix it. Food is O.K., and around the hotel is O.K. The beach is excellent, and the weather was good all 14 days.

Amazing time

The trip was amazing. Thier was quite a few bugs so don't forget bug spray. The resort was clean and nice. House keeping seemed to come whenever they wanted. Two days they came after 2pm after we weren't in our room from 8-2pm then wanted us to leave to clean it. Also we couldn't get new water bottles or even pay for new ones as the front desk said they didn't have any. We didn't want to risk the water on the resort and I am diabetic so all the juice wasn't good for me. We went into town to get  [... read more]some. The air conditioning controls are broken but they made the rooms cold. The food was better than I expected (even good) but the indoor buffet had problems with birds and flys. Also if you weren't in a family and your just a couple you have a chance of being ignored by the staff for drinks there as well. The mixes for drinks is watered down at the lobby bar so if you want drinks not watered down go to the pool bar. I sudjest bring snacks for beach as its a bit of walk back to get food unless the restaurant by the beach is open. Go there for lunch it's really good. Be careful thier are tons of cats. Their really cutie. Other resorts seemed to play music and such and be more alive on the beach. Overall it was a good stay. You won't forget it.

Nice, but Not Expectation Shattering

I knew going into this vacation not to set my sites too lofty for Cuba, however I was pleasently surprised by Playa D'Oro. This was a budget-after-college-grad trip so we didn't have much to spend but this was a nice resort. Overall, the rooms and grounds were clean and mostly well kept. The best food by far was the ham and cheese sandwiches at the poolside bar! The buffet restaurant had mostly the same food every night...just avoid the dairy unless you arrive first thing when the restaurant opens, as it never really appears properly cooled when it was out. The staff was super friendly if you took the time to get to know them, especially the maids! A small gesture of thanks went a long way for me... Every morning I would leave a small gift for the maid and she would leave me beautiful towel art in return. Overall a good resort.

Above expectations

Let me start with Jacqueline Bishop an extraordinary agent, outstanding personality. Friendly staff, clean resort with delicious fresh food. This vacation was a blast, thé sun, thé sand and thé warm sea were great.
