Friendly Home away from Home

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca has the most amazing white sand beach, which is a delight to walk along. In addition, there are 4 large swimming pools on the property. The staff is friendly and there is ALWAYS an activity for those who don't care to veg, no matter your age or fitness level. People sometimes say you don't come to Cuba for the food, but in my experience, there are plenty of choices for every appetite in the buffet restaurants. Food in the buffet areas changes daily, a [... read more]nd while I have my favourites which include pink yogurt, soup, fish, pork, omelettes, bread and salads, there is plenty of food to choose from. Specialty restaurants offer even better fare. For those who may be restless to stay in one place, there are many trips close to our hotel. Visits to an indigenous native site; swimming with the dolphins; time at a local farm seeing close up the planting practices, animals, and tasting fruits and vegetables grown there. An excursion to a local village with time for lunch, dancing and shopping. Bikes and scooters are available for adventurers who wish to go off on their own. For softies like me, morning exercise classes, afternoon Spanish lessons, bingo and dancing instruction are just the right amount of non-exertion. The main craft market is located next to the hotel and is open daily.

Club Amigo

We stayed in the Tropical, the room was very small, the ceiling was falling in and the closet drawers kept falling out, and the rod to hang cloths on wouldn’t stay up. We had to keep everything in our suitcases for 14 days. When we tried to get a upgrade, they wanted to charge us. We had to pay for water to brush our teeth. They had a filtration fill up station, but the water tasted moldy. Maybe the lines were dirty. The staff were very nice. The pool in the main building was contaminated for a large portion of our stay, so we had to use the other pools.

Very niceresort

Wasn’t impressed when arriving at the resort they had us at the wrong desk for reporting in. My friend was the first one up to the desk. When she told her that she was in a he wrong place. She dismissed her and continued to talk to the next person. Puzzled to do. What next. It was dark and raining and what do we do. All I saw was next person were men. I went up to the counter in a voice you could hear. I apologize for butting in saying why was my friend brushed off and dismissed without [... read more] a reason. She said she made a call to help us to the other desk we were to go to. I answered why wouldn’t you tell us in the first time. We.were bused over to the other hotel desk. Not ever being at this hotel before. Traveling with three people. We were given a room with no three beds ask we asked. They said they would get us another bed. There was no room for another bed. We stayed the night. Wrong with the room the bathroom. Having a bath was watering the hole bathroom. We went back to the the hotel desk and ask if we could change the room because it wasn’t big enough for three of us. They told us if we went to a different part of the hotel it would cost us more. For two weeks it cost us $70.00 per person -$210.00. The room was a good size for all three of us. Bathroom was great! We payed for the safe. The safe didn’t work for 2 1/2 days waiting in the room waiting for it to be fixed. We ask for our money back and they said they would give us us a lobster dinner. The maid was great. A very nice woman. The weather for the two weeks was terrible. Can’t help that. Service was good ok! The last breakfast we had the worse waitress she ignored us for service. Would I go back not really. It took us a week to find everything. The place was big. Didn’t see a show never new were it was playing. Over all it was clean. The hotel we stayed in Toronto wasn’t as good as the one in Cuba. Sinserly Alberta Ayers.

Always love this resort

This year we stayed in the hotel part of the resort this is called the tropical section. We stayed in a renovated room that had a great bathroom actually the best one we have had in all the 4 times we have bern there the only odd thing was the glass bathroom this is not on all rooms. We had a incredible view of the ocean and it was nice to not have to run through the rain to get food or drinks as everything was in the hotel. 4th time guest

Being a 4th time return guest, I knew what to expect going in. The beach was beautiful as usual, workers try their best to keep up with seaweed and garbage. Food was a hit or miss, A la Carte restaurants were impressive in comparison to buffet. I was there for 2 weeks in which the weather did not want to cooperate and we had mostly rainy days. Not much anyone can do about that but unfortunately there is not much to do on a rainy day/night, we sat there thinking there should be more entertainment [... read more] planned for such events. The building with the pool table/ping pong/games was closed around 6 or 630 so we couldn’t even go in for a game of evening pool. The pool table that was once in the red bar was also removed for even more of a lack of things to do. We questioned this as we put them to good use in previous visits. I did not travel with children but I also noticed there seemed to be less going on for them as well. My room flooded a few days before the end of my trip so I had to switch rooms, unfortunately the only option was to move to a room that smelled like it was smoked in 24/7.. this leads me to my next complaint. There are no smoking signs that are clearly visible throughout the resort. I had a hard time even walking through the lobby as some (a lot) of smokers think they are more important than the non-smokers. I can’t understand how or why people ignore the signage and I did not once see it being enforced by staff. I really wish I had less complaints this time around and hope things can be improved as this resort does have potential. Most staff are friendly and provide great service for what they have to work with. I think it might be time to check out the Brisas next door as we walked through and it looked like they had lots of entertainment. Right now I wouldn’t recommend this resort to a first time guest. They are doing renovations and I could see improvements but there is a lot that needs to change (entertainment and management wise) Hopefully I will see these changes if I decide to return in the future.

What a disappointment

We went to this resort 3x last year. So we though we knew what to expect...unfortunately this trip was a disaster! Besides the fact that it rained EVERY day(this was out of our hands) but the cleanliness or lack there of was atrocious! This resort isnt even a 1 star. It was dirty, unsanitary, and disgustingly gross! The food was inedible, and they served the same inedible food every single day, the buffet never changed. BUYER BEWARE DO NOT GO TO CLUB AMIGOS YOU ARE RISKING YOUR LIFE AS WE ARE ALL SICK NOW!!

Second time there & will be going back

Food was better this time then last time. I will be going back, upgraded to another room as I like it more quiet... town is really close! Love their fresh grill, the market is close... beach is nice & can sip drinks with locals on boulevard

Beautiful views of the ocean and beach.

Been there many times but this time they decided to change a bunch of things around which didn,t make sense at all. Many long term visitors said they were never coming back and I may be one of them. There was even a petition circulated around. The management obviously didn,t consult their patrons and I think it will severely hurt their business.

Worth Every Penny

The rooms were nothing fancy, but clean and had AC. Food was hit and miss, generally the buffet at the main lobby was better than the Garden View one. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the alcohol servings were generous. Totally worth what we paid!

Wonderful time

This is my fourth time at Club Amigo and my husband's first. In fact it was our first time travelling together since we have been farming and have recently retired. In the past, one of us always had to stay with the farm. We had a villa room on the second floor at the very end of the resort. We love walking, the beach and morning coffee at the 24 hour cafe. Our ocean views were breathtaking even though we had a number of rainy windy days, it was still lovely moist air and not -27C.

It was ok .

I enjoyed it more last April. Noticed a lot of smokers this time . 3out of 5 on the cleanliness. Washrooms were smelly . Couple of room issues . No upkeep on the swimming equipment. Food was reasonable ( didn't go for the food ) get towels for swimming early or they run out . I would go back but with lower expectations. Cheap rooms are terrible.

Enjoyed our stay

We went as a family of 6 and enjoyed our stay. The first impression when we walked through the doors was that it was a typical all inclusive place. We were quick to get to the counter to register for our rooms. The girl working was friendly and quick to assign us to 3 rooms. Fortunately we were able to get the rooms very close to each other. The food a [... read more]t the resort buffet was typical Cuban. Not a lot of flavour. We had no problem finding enough to eat. Lots of choices. We did eat at 2 of the 4 Al le cartes. Benny's was the first one we ate at. It was great. Great atmosphere and the food was terrific. Serving staff were happy to help us and very quick to make sure we had everything that we needed. One of the kids has a fish allergy, so they were very accommodating to make sure that no fish came in contact with his order. A couple nights later we ate at one of the other restaurants (can't remember the name of it). The food was fantastic, great service and a lot of fun. The beaches were beautiful. Not over crowded (this would be due to the resort not bursting at the seams with vacationers). Grounds were clean and well manicured. Drinks were well poured (if you like rum). Quick service at the bars and happy servers that would help select the right drink for that day or night. One issue that happened a couple of times through the week is the power would go off in the Tropical rooms area. I don't know if the power outage was on the whole resort or just contained to our area. It didn't really affect us at all. Was just dark for a couple minutes. Generally the power was returned to normal quickly. All is all we had a great family vacation and would recommend going to Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca. It is not fancy but it worked well for us.

Beautiful beach.

If you’re looking for value for your money then Club Amigo Atlantico is a resort of choice. The beach is beautiful and the secluded alcoves welcoming. From the eastern most alcove a 50 metre swim puts you out among the coral and some great snorkeling, both for colour and variety of aquatic life. The food was tasty with a good variety so suit most guests. A little congested if you came later to eat with some slight wait times. The two a la carte restaurants had excellent choices well prepared. [... read more] Service was efficient and courteous. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Rooms clean but showing some wear. We enjoyed our stay and will probably return in the future to enjoy the resorts hospitality and amazing coral.

You get what you pay for

Grounds were ok. Dated, but ok. The rooms were absolutely horrible. We switched to a Villa which was supposed to be better but they were still terrible. Beds were uncomfortable and bedding was changed only when we asked to have them changed. The beach was nice. The food was terrible. Things were reheated until it was finished (usually 2-3 days) not always enough food for everyone. I will never visit this resort again!

Holiday in Cuba

The beaches are fantastic! This was our first visit to Cuba, you do need to remember that this country has been under an embargo for many years and therefore you may not find all those creature comforts you are used to when on vacation. I can totally understand why the staff in some cases is sick and tired of tourists who drink all day and behave in ways that are less than desirable. Banana's, watermelon and oranges are your fruit of choice. Didn't see salad greens anywhere! For the price really can't complain but next time would upgrade to a newer hotel.

It was a great time!

The rooms were fine. Food varied, but overall it was alright. The staff and grounds were amazing. Bottom line : I would certainly go back. I went to have a fun time with my girlfriend and friends and that happened every day.

Les villas sont ok pour 3* , la plage est magnifique les piscines côté villa et bungalow étaient verte. Le buffet une vraie farce dégueulasse en plus toujours pareil. Le Café Ahley digne d'un 5*. La moitié du resort était fermé

Our home away from home.

We love Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca. We have been going to this resort since 2008. Some years we manage to go twice. Love the people. Always so nice and helpful. The resort is clean. The staff work hard and are always so nice to us. My husband and I have no problem with the food either. There is always something tasty available. Restaurants on the resort are great. We have also made some great friends with a few of the locals. Like I said, we love this place.

Resort so so

Weather very good, no rain during a day. Problem with beach towel, mostly time station closed or no clean towel. Entertainment very poor. Lots local people in the hotel, resort and the beach. They very noisy, with inappropriate behavior, the do not stay in the line for resort services.

Bad experience

I was so frustrated when I first camed they gived me a standard room in the banker with alot moskitos and had to pay 30 pesos to change the room and anothe 16 pesos to have a fridge and a locker it was degusting i've never in my life had to pay for those services and i'm not mentioning the low qualities of food etc... its my last time
