Always a good time at playa pesquero

Once again Playa Pesquero proved to be a good choice for a much needed reprieve from the CDN winter blues. Great food selection, friendly and helpful staff, awesome beaches, clean and spacious rooms. We look forward to another visit down the road...

Beautiful Beach and pool

The hotel is approx an hour’s drive from the airport. On arrival at hotel, greeted well at reception. One can get lost in this hotel. It is quite a large complex. The rooms are very big; the bathroom has a jacuzzi tub.The pool and beach are beautiful. Lots of chairs...no need to reserve your chair. Lots of activities. The food is average Cuban resort fare. Lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. The nightly entertainment is mediocre.

Good vacation, huge resort

Very large resort so be prepared to walk ...... a lot. Average food, great beach, nice large pool. We went in down-season (June) so resort was at about half capacity with several restaurants closed and lower staff levels. Be cautious of fresh meats at cooking stations - we saw several guests come down with e-coli food poisoning while we were there.

Super Hotel

The grounds of this hotel are well maintained, clean and the pool is cleaned every day. The rooms are a good size, cleaned each day and fridge stocked. If you need anything the maids are always around to help. They also do great designs with the towels and leave on the bed each day. Cannot say enough about the waiters & waitresses, they go out of their way to make sure you have a drink in your hands at all times. Amazing spa also can't say enough about the service there went for a massage amazing. We love this hotel will definitely go back.

Very Nice resort

We found everything very clean at this resort. The room was always very clean. The cleaning staff did an excellent job and we always had a clean supply of towels(including face cloths). Excellent serving staff in the restaurants and bars. And there are a lot to choose from. We were entitled to 4 a la carte reservations for a one week stay. The food in the a la carte restaurants was awesome and we even found lobster on the menus at no extra charge. They did not seem to run every 20 minutes as posted. We could usually walk to most locations on the resort but nice to have available in the heat of the day.

Not the best we ever been to

Had a great time here. Amazing

Only thing is they need to have more music and ententaiment at evening and night like a mini club near the resort also to play more music in the lobby. Other than that everything was great and beautiful

Great resort!

Food was very good and the beaches really nice. Everyone was friendly. We spent super good time singing karaoke at night and eating fried chicken during the day. Their chicken is GOOD. There is also scuba diving right next to the beach.

Lovely resort - great customer service

We decided on a last minute trip to Cuba and had been to Holguin once before and decided on Playa Pesquero, Holguin. We have never travelled to a Caribbean destination this late in the year (May), we found the weather incredibly humid and hot. I like a more moderate temperature without the humidity. Many of the resort guests especially the British tourists seemed to love it so this is a personal reflection. Lively karaoke restaurant bar and all located in a corridor village type setting which was very convenient. Nice lobby with nightly entertainment, pianist, opera singer. Loved the cappuccino bar in the lobby, also serving specialty Irish, Spanish coffees. We didn't take in any of the night shows which are located close to the lobby. The resort has fabulous pools very suitable for young families and the one beauty of being there in May is there are very little line ups and easy to access lounge chairs with lots of coverage for shade. I prefer the ocean and beach, the water was refreshing and not quite the hot soup temperature of the pools. Loved the ocean, my favourite with some snorkelling right off the beach. The food based on Cuba standards was amazing and our favourite a la carte was the Italian. The main buffet restaurant was exceptionally good as I am not usually a fan of buffets at resorts. We have travelled to many resorts over the years, Mexico, Dominican Rep, Roatan, Margarita Island Venezuela, Cuba and this was one of our favourites in Cuba in line with Caya Santa Maria. The resort has a lovely aqua spa with very professional standards. We went for a therapeutic massage as I use an RMT routinely for back issues in Canada and their practitioners are in line with Canadian RMT standards, excellent. We were thrilled that the king bed in our room was so comfortable, we are in our 60's so that is important now. two storey bungalows which is great not too many stairs, good size, lovely balcony. It is a large resort so we are at a stage where we would prefer a smaller one but honestly the customer service was top notch.

2nd time to this resort and love it, will be going back

This resort has so much to offer, even though it is big, getting around is quite easy, I just love the boulevard with the 24 hour snack bar, ice cream parlour and the mojito bar (best mojito's I have ever had, make sure you try the strawberry ones) and lunch restaurant (fried chicken is so good)! The beach is beautiful and the water so clear. The lobby is huge with many little sections to sit and enjoy a drink or a coffee, listen to music an watch the show. The a la carte's are to die  [... read more]for, service excellent and oh the lobster is fantastic at all of them. The only concern I had was the bank had no pesos for almost three days and this made it really hard for tipping, when you have to keep asking for change, not fair to all the wonderful staff there that work very hard. Most were very accommodating to make change but it is frustrating to have to ask all the time. We will be going back for sure some day.

Great place

Love it all beach pool food. Greatest staff always friendly service. We will go back. Thanks to all the servers gardeners maids and management for a great holiday and were looking forward to see you soon

Good resort

Hotel is clean. Very friendly staff. Nice beach. Good food. Every night different shows for kids and adults. I would recommend this hotel. A lot of restaurants to eat. Close to resort market where you can get some gifts and souvenirs.

Not as good as two years ago

Apparently this resort is under new management in the last two years, and it shows, especially in the customer service area. Much less helpful at the front desk, even an attitude from the front desk manager when I was there. I waited over an hour for a drive from my room to one of the far away restaurants. I eventually made my way to the lobby to try to get there--no explanation, no apology. Just a further " I will call again". Also, the buffet food was really bad. I couldn't even eat there. [... read more] Other resorts in Holguin with a lower star rating have great food. The a la cartes were very good, as was the coffee bar in the lobby. The front line staff were great. The management not so much. I won't go back. Left a bad taste with me. Not customer oriented.

Nice Resort

It was our first time at this Resort and where suprised of how big it is. The selection of food was very good. The rooms are large and comfortable. The pool area is huge and well kept. It is a family Resort so be prepared for lots of kids. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Great trip

The good: Amazing beach with some small reefs for snorkelling. Lots of restaurants -food was mostly good when you figured out what you liked. Staff very friendly. Pool great for the kids. Can get a small catamaran ride or take out paddle boats, kayaks or windsurfers if you like. Lots of shade on the beach. We have a son with disabilities and the hotel accommodated our request to be close to the pool, restaurants and beach. People who place their towels on chairs by the pool VERY early in the morning making it hard to find a spot in the shade where you can actually see your kids in the pool.

Beautiful Resort!

Playa Pesquero Resort, is a beautiful resort. They have a big beautiful Lobby with nice seating areas. The beach is not far from the pool, it's a nice walk with small boutiques, snack bar and a la carte restaurant on the way. The view of the beach and ocean is breathtaking! Beautiful wide beach with white sand and turquoise water. The Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Buffet restaurant is Open concept, with view of the surroundings and fresh air passing through...very nice. All the a la carte res [... read more]taurants are also wide open, no closed areas. A la carte service was excellent, but at the Buffet restaurant the service is a bit slow with a lot of line ups for the fresh cooked food. The food was delicious anywhere we ate. Nice size rooms, well kept and always clean. If you enjoy evening entertainment at the Theatre, I must say that we were disappointed when we went the week of April 1-7, 2018. They did not put on any shows, they did have a few bands that played, but we prefer a show with dancers.

Adult Spring Break

This was a great trip! Our 4th time and we had a blast and will definately return. 4 of us travelled together and experienced the wonderful Cuban hospitality. We were pampered with great service where tips were not expected but do help the people of Cuba. The bugs were noticeable but not unmanageable, the pools clean, the beach fantastic and the rooms were clean. Don’t go for the food so that was not an issue - plenty for seafood lovers! Second visit to Playa Pesquero

We returned to Playa Pesquero as a group of seven with all of us having visited a year ago. Overall this is a good resort about an hour and ten minutes from the airport. It is a large resort but still feels cozy. i've been to Cuba 10 times now and this is one of the best resorts I've stayed at. The pool is absolutely enormous. In my opinion the best bang for the buck is to upgrade to the Monticristo rooms. This room class qualifies for additional perks via Transat's SUPER EARLY BOOKING [... read more] BONUS. The rooms are in pretty good shape and were well cleaned each day. Fresh towels, bar restocked etc with no problem. We had luke warm water for the first two days but it wasn't bad enough to complain about it. It was piping hot by day 3. We've stayed in building 16 both years and we would ask for that building again should we return. It is close to the pool (swim-up bar side of the pool.), a two minute walk to the beer garden (think small outdoor pub), and also a two minute walk to the beach. Food at the buffets is actually pretty good for Cuba standards. The main buffet gets pretty hot/humid as it is not air conditioned though. There are at least a dozen places to eat and its very easy to avoid the buffets. If you are thinking about visiting there are a couple of facebook groups you should join to get the latest gossip/tips or your questions answered. BTW: The first year we went there were only a few kids in the pool. This time it was kid soup at times. The volume of people took a toll on the pool and by the time we left it needed more than the morning shock/quick vacuum it got each morning. If you want to meditate you won't be doing it in the pool area. By mid afternoon the adults are having a blast at the swim up bar! There is an adults only section with its own restaurants/pool if you want a quiet vacation. We would consider returning.

Holguin

The resort is great the staff and grounds are exceptionally There was too many kids playing in the beer garden and at the pool bar there should be some small areas were kids should not be allowed to play the bartenders did tell the parents to stop somethings like the time a mother sat her child in diaper beside my drink on the pool bar them proceeded to change diaper right beside the pool Air transat is excellent and I will book with them again better never again to holguin [... read more] we were put in an unorganized pushing scrum trying to make through airport security Inmagine you basement full of people and only one person allowed to leave every two minutes but there is at least four people trying to enter every minute That airport is a nightmare they should really spread there flight times out more

Nice resort

The resort was clean the room service left me a little disappointed no coffee for the morning only 1 bottle of water left although the maintenance was very good my toilet broke and it was fixed immediately the food was typical Cuban food two of the three a la cartes we went to were excellent both in good and service
