Beautiful

We had a great time. Staff was amazing and the resort was so comfortable. I would definitely recommend it and definitely go back. The food was surprisingly good. Lots of entertainment. The beach was gorgeous.

Fair Resort

All in all our stay at Laguna Iberostar was enjoyable. It got off to a rocky start which cost us a half a day into day two. We were initially brought to our room and discovered no door to our bolted down safe!!!! That was first of a couple of things wrong. With no safe to put our stuff in, we were forced to carry our passports around and money until it got solved. Our daughter and her boyfriend's room same thing, no door to safe. Really???? No shower head up on wall of tub. Same thing in o [... read more]ur daughter's room. Three big cigarette burn holes in our bed spread. That wasn't too inviting. We went back to desk and spoke to ladies. They sent us on a run to look at two other rooms. Again, no door to safe and one room we couldn't even get into. Also, our daughter's initial room wouldn't even automatically lock when they left. Another issue. So the front desk informed at 9ish pm to come back tomorrow around 10 to check about another room for us as people were going to be leaving then and we would have to wait till rooms got cleaned before we could move which brought us to lunch or after. When rooms were cleaned we had to go over and let ourselves in to check them out and go back to desk to let them know. We just got so annoyed with the run around we got, that we went right to Sunwing rep and in conjunction with Guest service manager they asked what they could do to make up for it. Guest manager offered us a "Private breakfast" and I said no!!! I want a massage each for all four of us!!! Our Sunwing rep made it happen. Also, they left a bottle of rum and an apology letter in our rooms. So, all in all the week went very well once those issues were fixed but we should not have been made to wait that long for it to be solved and if we had not gone to our sunwing rep I'm not sure how much more of a run around we would have gotten. Grounds, beach were all great. It's not a great feeling when you walk into a room which you are supposed to be staying at for one whole week and see unfinished things like this. Disappointed at how Cubas resorts are running down. We have been to Cuba six times and never to the same resort but it would be nice if they kept day to day maintenance on things. Safes without doors is a big issue. You need your customers to feel comfortable and safe. Thank you in advance for your time. Sherry and Robert Wells.

Poolswere great

elevators did not work all the time public bathrooms for women closed by the buffet. buffet food and service not up to par. rooms were not ready for 6 hours. 6 requests for a bathtub plug took 3 days reception personnel could not speak English.

Disappointed in this resort

We were very disappointed to learn that both hot tub jacuzzis were broken and the main pools were quite cold. We found the layout of the resort perfect, compact, easy and quick to get around, which we like. It was beautiful and elegant but the bars at the 2 quiet pools closed at 4 pm which was disappointing, and the main pool bar was overcrowded. There were never enough lounge chairs, palapas, or shade. There should be more umbrellas or palapas around the pool and closer to the ocean as the dist [... read more]ance from the palapas to the ocean was quite far. We enjoyed the a la carte restaurants, pizza station, omelette station, and grills, but found the buffet food was not food we normally eat and disliked most of it. It was the same food for every meal with little variety and many dishes were over salted. This is something we have come to expect with Cuba. Although we bought wifi cards, we had a hard time getting wifi and it was down for over 24 hours at one point. The resort lost water for the last 2 days we were there and our room had no water. We couldn't shower or flush our toilet. They closed down many bathrooms at the resort, locked the doors and we only found bathrooms in the lobby opened. This made us not want to swim or drink as we had no bathroom near the pool area to go to as the lobby was too far away and we couldn't go there in wet bathing suits. Due to no water, drinks were very limited with no more Pina coladas, daquiris, or other frozen drinks. Our air conditioner did not work and was missing the magnet on the patio door which made the connection to turn on the conditioner. We complained at the front desk but it was not fixed. We were so glad to be leaving when we did and not just showing up at the beginning of our vacation. Despite the negatives, we enjoyed our excursions and vacation away.

Iberostar Laguna Azul

The meals at the buffet were always the same, not enough variation. The meals with reservation were good, especially the italian supper. The resort was very well situated. The rooms had always sand on the floor...could be cleaner...The plastic chairs at the beach were not comfortable at all. I like the proximity of everything. The security was very good. The people working there were friendly..I wouldn't recommend this resort.

Had an awesome experience

Hotel was great, rooms were a little outdated and run down but they were very clean! Staff were extremely friendly and look after you well on your stay.food could have been better but it is a large resort so that is expected

Good resort

The outdoor portion of the resort was beautiful. The rooms need some major updating. Entertainment and service staff were great! Food was not great but from what I've heard that's typical of Cuba. Beach was so clean.

Great time

Very nice hotel but door scanning system is out dated and the magnetic strip does not work. The grounds have potential to be better. The service was ok Special thanks to housekeeping 😁👍 The FOOD SUCKS!! Change Menu up at buffet where's the seafood.... Beach is AWESOME..

Great vacation

I spent a week at this resort with my wife, and two daughters, aged 5 and 7. We had a fantastic time at this resort! Things that were perfect included the beach, friendliness of staff, swimming pools, excursions, entertainment, cleanliness, safety. Things less than perfect did not detract from our experience and included food (mediocre at buffet and a bit busy and frantic, better at a la carte restaurants) and little details like pools not filled at the kids centre, broken faucets, toilets th [... read more]at ran continuously etc... Highlights were the beach, the killer rock cover band that me and my kids danced our buts off to, the buena vista social club band, swimming with dolphins (the girls loved it, while my wife felt a bit guilty), being on a catamaran, and the bellamar cave. Would definitely recommend and return!

Great Resort

Very clean, great friendly staff -- good food with great variety -- exceptional meals and service at reserved seating restraunts. The only complaints would be the comfort of the mattress and the fact that the elevators were not always available.

Great resort

Overall a great hotel ! People were friendly, food was good for Cuba and the rooms were great. Looking for a safe, family friendly hotel this is it. Just be aware that you are in Cuba so you will need to adjust your expectations. The one disappointing fact was that the resort and local banks were giving us 70 cents on the dollar. This was despite leaving Canada and the US dollar was at 77.

Beautiful Resort

Beautiful Resort - not too big and plenty of staff for the guests. Lovely grounds and well kept. Staff very friendly and tried to give excellent service. Nice beach but not enough lounge chairs at beach or at the pool. Sometimes the food was cold and they use an excessive amount of salt to flavour the food. Selections like all resorts in Cuba need fine tuning. Became repetitive after a while. Many of the staff need to get a better handle on the English language. Some staff speak so loudly [... read more] from one floor to another or yelling across the floor to each other. Bar service was quite slow in the lobby bar. Rooms could do with a bit of refurbishing. Overall, I would return to this hotel.

Great group family vacation.

The pool bar staff make this good resort great. They make you feel like a VIP. The pool area was clean and tidy, the beach area was large and was well maintained. The food was typical for Cuba, a bit lacking in flavour, but always had the choice of fish, pork and chicken. The main buffet had lots of variety including cooked veggies, freshly made pizzas and a great salad bar. There was ketchup and peanut butter at breakfast with fresh bread but no whole wheat. We needed to call multiple times for the beer and water that was supposed to be stocked daily. We stayed in a family suite which was great. However, the door to the kid's room had some technical issues and would not lock. This took multiple calls to get fixed. A trusty wedge took care of the kid's safety. The entertainment was fantastic with obvious dance/ballet training. The nights were generally quite cool therefore recommending that you bring warm sweaters and pants. Would definitely recommend this resort!!

Amazing resort

Good food, beautiful beach and pools, great staff and great entertainment. The location of the resort was amazing. Will recommend this place to everyone who is looking to get away to a wonderful and dreamy place.

Loved the resort

Very clean, safe and fun environment to have a vacation. Staff was polite, and easy to communicate with. Activity staff were amazing. Food was ok. A little bland. The Japanese & Italian restaurant were excellent.

Amazing resort

Loved this resort. The rooms were clean and spacious. The food was plentiful with a wide variety. The grounds were immaculate and the staff stole our hearts. We can’t wait to go back. If you are looking for an experience that will forever be in your heart, this is the place to go!

Very disappointing trip.

To start this was my 11th trip to Varadero. I am not a picky person I eat anything and am aware i am in Cuba and go with an open mind. This hotel let me down the whole stay. I will make this short and talk about some points of interest. The first night the refrigerator was so noisy that we had to unplug it to sleep we went to call front desk phone did not work the patio door would not open. the shower had so much calcium build up the small amount of water went everywhere but on you.I had to stop [... read more] the maid from putting flowers on the bed and washroom counter as many small insects were dispersing from them and after the first night I was full of bites on my body.in general the hotel was beautiful in its day but is old tired and worn out now. The grounds are laid out very nice and the beach is beautiful. although we only ate ate the main beach snack bar once as we were disgusted with the way it was set up with its cleanliness. Birds kept on eating the put out food with no one to remove them but patrons and i mean many birds right in the hot trays. As we know what goes in must come out and this was very disturbing.The main buffet was terrible everything was greasy reheated and even the tomato soup was burnt.at night you could not get a seat in the lobby and if you did you had to wait 20 minutes to get a coffee drinks were terrible two drinks would be served of the same example rum bunch but would look and taste totally different besides each other.The elevators did not work half of the time and on check out I had to carry our luggage down two flights then up one to the lobby the phone did not work to call for assistance. We have traveled in a group of four for the last ten years this was the firs time we all had the runs for the whole trip. This was backed up by many that we talked to on our stay. Generally a terrible experience. The worst in my eleven stays in Cuba.

Beautiful Resort

The resort is beautiful. The grounds and pool are impeccable. The rooms could use an update. Noticed some rooms had "white" furniture vs the dark wood. White is better. The sheets felt damp at night, not sure if this is just the case for all of Cuba.

Great Atmosphere

Resort is well laid out and everything is close by. There could be a bit more variety of food during the off times of the buffet. Pools are great with lots of options. Around the swim up bar is a lot of fun if you like crowds and mingling. The beach is perfection!

Good resort for cuba!

Rooms - well kept, but very uncomfortable beds Overall resort - beautiful, perfect size, liked how there was no trolley to get around Pools - great! Beach - amazing! always enough chairs no matter what time and there is beach bar Wifi - one cuban for one hour of wifi, for Cuba the wifi wasn't bad Food - snack bar and ice cream place were great! Be careful when ordering chicken, we luckily caught an uncooked one Nightlife - awfullll, definitely not a party resort and disco [... read more] was dead (left the resort every night) Service - nicest staff I have ever met and loved how the activities people never forced you to do anything Drinks - super yummy!
