Beautiful resort

This was one of our best vacations in Cuba in the last 20 years or so. It is a small, well maintained resort, adults only, with beautiful grounds, excellent service and more than decent accommodations. The rooms are quite big, very clean. The food was very good, much better than in a 5-star hotel in Varadero we visited a couple of years ago. There is a big grilling station with two cooks, with choices of fish, mussels, shrimps, pork, chicken and beef to grill... pasta station was excellent, where the cook made pasta with your choice of add-ins and sauces. Smoothie station in the morning, fresh fruits, pastries....several choices of cheeses and ham/salami....decent selection of desserts, ice creams, sweets, for everyone's taste: mango and coconut ice creams were to die for. I find that people who normally do not cook at home, or live off the junk order in, are the ones who complain about the food the most... myself, I appreciated the selection and the fact that someone else cooked and cleaned for us. The beach was one or the most amazing beaches.... very clean, lots of sun huts, so we never had to run early in the morning to save a space.....the sea water was pristine, very warm and shallow for good 25 feet or so....there is a beach bar and little pizza restaurant, with a great pizza.... the guys serving always with a big smile, excellent service....I loved the churros guy... he made churros at his station by the pool, and every day, at noon and around 3 pm, he was walking down to the beach with a tray with hot churros, giving them to the guests... he was in full cook uniform, sweating in the heat, but still the biggest smile in the world. Although we did not go to the entertainment programs, we were listening to some great music coming from the theater every evening... the aqua show was really mesmerizing, those kids are true artists. There is really not one single thing that I could pinpoint as not satisfactory. I cannot single out one single person at the resort for being more nice and helpful... they all are that way.

BEST BEACH - GREAT MEMORIES AT MEMORIES CARIBE

Hi All, I travelled solo to Memories Caribe and have the BEST time. Beach was BEAUTIFUL, staff were wonderful, grounds were very well kept, resort was clean, pool was great. I had a wonderful time , met some great people, and I thought this was a great value for an Adult only resort. I will definitely return

Great

The staff made us feel very welcome. Good room, food and entertainment. Beach was gorgeous. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the resturant and having to wait over an hour for our food to start arriving. Other than that, I enjoyed everything.

Resort is nice, food is not so nice!

The resort room, beach, landscaping and garden are nice. The food in the buffet is always the same. The a la carte Cuban Restaurant served us cold soup, yucky corn appetizer and burnt chicken breast as hard as my shoe. My husband wasn't able to sleep that night thinking how a nice looking restaurant could serve food like that to their guests. I will not book this resort again!

Nice affordable place

We travelled the first week of June and the weather was amazing! The resort was only at 40-50% to capacity so it was very quiet. Our rooms were clean and the beds were comfy. We did have a room mix up when we arrived but we switched rooms with our travel buddies. We tipped our room cleaner every day but we didn’t always get new towels or water. We purchased diamond club and did not see any benefit from it at all. They keep it very clean and of course it was beautiful! If you didn’t have a chair, guys would set them up for you which was great! Overall I was happy with this resort and it was a great vacation.

Nice beach

This was my first time in Cayo Coco. It is a nice beach but the resort is very tired. The staff are friendly and helpful. Upon my arrival I was told that is was rainy season:( not very happy that I was not informed by the travel agent. I got to my room and I was not impressed. It smelled moldy and the air conditioner was very loud and it did not have a grill covering it. I went to take a shower at the end of day and there was no hot water! I called the front desk seven times and no one w [... read more]as helpful. I finally walked to the front desk after dinner and they knew right away who I was based on the number of calls I made. I have to admit they were very helpful, without me explaining anything they said they would move me to another room. They sent me with a staff member to inspect the room and it was much better so I appreciated that. The beach was lovely however when it rained morning and night there was really no way that I could enjoy the beach. The food was ok. It was the typical buffet food. The maid service was very good. They made sure that I had water every day and put towels on the bed in a lovely design. I did tip them well upon my arrival so that I would be sure to have good service. I don't think that I would go back to that resort. It needs a lot of repairs. It is very tired looking but they are working on it. I think that the worst part was that the travel agent did not inform me that it was rainy season. Had I known I never would have gone in the first place but obviously they don't care. When they called me for a follow up and I asked them why I was not informed that it was rainy season the response was " I guess I should have told you"! SERIOUSLY, YA THINK! I am not impressed with the agency and will never use them again.

Wonderful people

I found the people at the resort to be lovely and very helpful. The beach was gorgeous and the room was nice. I did have a bit of an issue that the entire bathroom had no door on it. My main complaint would be currency exchange. There is a ‘bank’ at the resort but we were charged a crazy exchange rate. For $90 Cdn we received 63 convertible pesos. That seems to be more than buying America or European cash which seems way too high.

Not as advertised

The biggest disappointment is the lack of communication from trip central. The resort was only half open. There was extensive damage done to the resort. The room we were given wasn’t the room we booked and the ac wasn’t working. When we tried to switch rooms, we were unable because only half the resort was open and the rest was booked. So we spent the night sweating. A majority of the resort is still flooded. This causes a lot of swampy areas to form. If you don’t have bug spray then good  [... read more]luck at night. This also caused the resort to be covered with frogs. Expect to step on a few a night as there are no lights on the paths in the resort. The food wasn’t the best but there was always something to eat. The al a cartes often didn’t have certain menu items available. There was poor communication through the front desk and other staff. We were given a late check out by the customers relation rep, but no one at front desk was aware. The safe in our room broke twice. Again we had to call a few times cause the message was never delivered to the technician. Except for the front desk the rest of the staff were always very friendly. The resort is advertised as a 4star. It’s a 3 Star at best in its current condition. And that’s only because the beach is very nice. And while the condition of the resort is no ones fault as it was due to the hurricane, tripcentral should be responsible to let you know exactly what to expect. If anyone plans on going I recommend calling ahead to find out how many rooms are available as 4/5 people we spoke to had to change rooms at some point. And you don’t want to be stuck in an unsuitable room all week. Also try to get a room on the second floor as frogs, cockroaches and other bugs will try to crawl under your door on the first floor. Or cover the door with a towel.

Beautiful Beach at Memories Caribe

My husband & I stayed at the Memories Caribe May 5-12. Overall, we had a good time. The best part of the resort was the amazing Cayo Coco beach; just beautiful. The staff was very pleasant and the weather cooperated for the most part - lots of rain but lots of sun too. The coffee bar in the lobby was excellent. Our room was pretty basic but comfortable enough for the week. Our biggest issue was no hot water for at least 3.5 days but the maintenance crew seemed to be diligently working on th [... read more]e issue and they did get it resolved in the end. We enjoyed the buffet and also the pizza hut on the beach. Tried a couple of the a la cartes but found the food very disappointing and inedible in a couple of cases. Never did spend any time in the pool or the swim up bar; always seemed to be occupied with a rowdy group. We'd definitely go back to Cayo Coco but perhaps not to the Memories Caribe!

Amazing beach

This resort was great because of it's size. Everything was within short walking distance - beach, pool, bars, restaurant. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Entertainment was good too. This beach was totally amazing. I've stayed in cayo coco before but this beach definitely topped the last resort hands down. Couple of negatives would be the smell in the rooms and that I was sick one night and part of the day. The rooms smelt very musty/mouldy. We should have asked to be moved and I'm [... read more] sure they would have accommodated but we stayed put. I was ill but my travel companions had no issues so I can only think of a piece of unwashed lettuce that I picked out of my plate. Recommend staying clear of lettuce

Amazing Resort!

The hotel was amazing! The staff was amazing! The beach was amazing! The pool was amazing! The drinks was amazing! The food was okay! The weather was soso! The black bird was annoying! The trip was amazing!

Fabulous resort

Memories are forever!!! Every thing was great clean grounds food was good.needs more nightly entertainment eg dancing space dj would be nice? Very quiet after 10pm. A great trip overall. Thank you. Staff was fantastic!!!!!

Run down but clean

Room was clean but run down. Shower head kept falling off and hot water was scarce. Furniture was tired looking both in public areas and rooms. Service was good for the most part but we did wait over 20 ministers for a very small pizza only to be told they ran out! Drinks from different bars tasted completely different .. some bars drinks were like koolaid or tang, not real juice. Food was decent for Cuba but they should improve their a la cartel meals. Not all its hyped up to be

This hotel is not at all what I was expecting having a 4 start rating. The bed was very uncomfortable. The A/C unit was soooo loud that you could hear it as soon as you got to the top of the stairs to the hallway outside! You could not carry on a conversation inside the room with it on and expect to be heard, and we had to turn it off at night just to sleep. which made for a very uncomforatable sleep in 30+degree weather. And it was not fixed for the entire week we were there. They also promised us a bottle of wine in our room that we also did not recieve. The food was pretty good, and the beach was amazing, but it looksnothing like in the photos now since the hurricaine, all the buildings are white and there are no roofs on some buildings that previously had them.

Excellent Resort and Best Beach!

I've been to several properties in Cuba and it had all that I was looking for. Rooms are very clean, and bed was very comfortable. The food was fresh and there was an excellent selection including "make your own" stirfry, omelet, skewers, and pasta bars. Pool area may be small during peak season but you would want to relax on the gorgeous beach. Staff were friendly. I'm not interested in evening entertainment at resorts so I cant comment on that. Memories Caribe Beach Resort

I was very excited about going to Cayo Coco as I've never been to Cuba. I expected more for my money, this resort was not what I expected. I realize they went through a hurricane 8-9 months ago and had to make major repairs. The resort should not have been open until completely repaired but it was open and it should have been better then what it was. We had no hot water for most of our stay, we did report it to the front desk, they sent someone to fix it but we only had one hot shower each and  [... read more]lukewarm to cold water until we left to come home. Most of the staff were friendly but one staff tried to charge me twice for a Wi-Fi card but my husband handled the situation. The excursions were too expensive for what was offered, I know they want to rebuild and make money but some excursions were way over priced. The beach was gorgeous, it was the best part of the resort, the weather was ok being their winter/spring seasons which meant lots of rain. I didn't mind the food, it was good but towards the end of the trip I got tired of eating the same food. This resort could be better if they put more work into it. I don't think I will return to this resort.

Lacking in entertainment.

It has an amazing beach. The staff are great. The resort definitely lacks in entertainment. In order to do any dancing you have to take a bus to another resort. Everything in this resort closes down at 11 p.m. Don't think I will be back there.

Nice resort

Memories Caribe is a nice, not great resort. Staff is terrific and try very hard to accommodate. It is a very good resort if you get accommodation in the new, remodelled area, or the Diamond Club. I was in the old section and while the rooms are large, they are tired and can be troublesome. The bathroom in particular needed work. The toilet seat was broken, the shower and sink water was luke warm at best and the shower head was very loose, causing water to spill onto the floor. Also, the t [... read more]emperature gauge was broken which caused the room to be very cold even on the low fan setting. On the positive side, the ground were well maintained, the food was very good and the beach was beautiful. Unfortunately they allow the guests to come down to the beach very early in the morning and put towels on all the chairs, making it difficult to find a decent spot. I had to be down their by 7:30 in the morning, or I wouldn't find a spot.

Amazing Resort

Very nice Rooms. Staff are very friendly. Food very good. Pool nice, Entertainment very good. Overall very good Experience except we have only seen the Air Canada Rep once Tuesday morning for about 15 min. He gave us a sheet about the expensive Excursions but never told us that we could take a Bus, rent a Motorbike or take a Taxi. Will go back any Time but not with Air Canada.

First time at a memories resort and last time!!!

I use Trip advisor all the time to plan our Vacations and have never made a post about a vacation. Well i need to tell people about this resort. We booked with Sunwing. Flights down where amazing got to resort in good time and bus ride was fast and fun. As you come into resort they give you a paper to fill out and form two lines and hand out rooms at that point and you walk and try and find your room and a guy will bring your bags to your room. We arrived at our room and found we had single beds [... read more] and broken A/C. I mean it was not even installed it was sitting on the floor at bottom of stairs. So, we went back to front desk as buddy rolled his eyes cause we came back he gave us another room which was even worse the smell was bad a/c was lacking and the roof had black mold and blood stains all over the wall. So, we go back to front desk and they would even listen to us and said we are sorry that's it.......CAN'T HELP you. and then ignored us and moved on to next person at this point we called sunwing rep and Toni Toni help us out. he found us a room that the a/c work and no smell. Toilet didn't work and we had no hot water but it was cleaner. But with promise of new room the next day after people checked out. So next day came and after 4 we had to move again. We arrived and new room on ground floor room was clean maid was awesome. Bad things about upgrade room was no TV working not big deal...... Door would not lock and vents where missing and a plastic bag in its place to stop things from coming in room we thought !!!!!!!! until we found cockroaches in our room but we were told it is cuba by customer servers lol . Again, no hot water but its fine the beach water was beautiful lol. At the bars at night they let their employee drink and eat at the bar and mingle with the people staying at resort and if you’re in line and they walk up they will stop and serve them first???? Also one of the young girls that was staying at the resort with her friend had been approached repletely by 3 young male workers and notes under her door saying inappropriate things!!!!! Food was ok but not a big variety and every day they were short something One plus they have homemade pizza on the beach so good. The grounds were well kept Pool was nice not enough chairs if you still decide to go to this place get your Money changed at airport as it is way cheaper. They need to put more people at front desk that can speak English and have people skills Flight back was the worst ever serves and food suck and was expensive and landing was scary!!!
