This place has breathtaking beautiful gardens. It was a pleasure to take walks in the early mornings and evenings.
The food was very good offering guests a vast variety of food selections. However, we were not happy with the Oriental Restaurant.
We found that the resort was huge and at times very tiring for us to get from one area to another. It would be great if they would consider offering cart service for seniors.
The front desk staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to[... read more] assistance us with our concerns. Only, we had to wait 4 hours before check-in as we arrived at 11 a.m. and they have check in set at 3 p.m. It was an uncomfortable hot wait for us.

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Good value for money
Not a 5 star but overall a good experience. Enjoyed the buffet and snack bar food. Room was cleaned and mini fridge was stocked everyday. Found staff to be friendly and hard-working.my only real complaint would be the cleanliness of the pool by early afternoon. Better filtration and cleaning is needed.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: 42nd Anniversary trip to a Fantastic Resort
The resort exceeded our expectations. We stayed twice at La Romana, which is the family resort next door. This is adults only and is fantastic.
It is not a large resort which makes it very easy to get around. The pools, beach area, rooms, common areas, and restaurants are beautiful and very clean.
There is a fun pool by the beach, a small jacuzzi pool beside it, and a quiet pool at the other end of the resort.
Our room was very clean and spacious with a well stocked mini bar. We had butle[... read more]r service to help us with our needs.
Two buffet restaurants and three a la carte were all great. A huge selection in the buffets and great menus at the a la carte.
All the staff were very helpful and were always working hard.
Only negative is the ocean water is calm but not crystal clear as you may expect. But the beach is always clear of sea weed and kept very clean.
We will go back

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: A different experience!
The accomodation is great. The room is very clean and well supplied. The ground garden, sand by the beach is well maintained. Excellent service in the buffet or restaurant. The sand on the beach is very fine, beautiful to walk everyday. However, the water is brown in color due to the river nearby. The ground staff are doing their best to keep the weeds and debris away from the swimming areas.

Catalonia Bayahibe: Great beach!
Good resort. Good food. Great Beach. We got the upgrade to Privileged, which I think was a good idea. We got a nice renovated room and access to a Privileged Beach bar and restaurant. Buffet food was great. No complaints. Italian resto and pizza very good. Steakhouse...mmeehh. We didn't try the Caribbean one. Pool was ok. Not enough chairs. But we came for the beach! Service in general was good but I found there were too many reps trying to sell you some type of preferred package thing. Good res[... read more]ort for families.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Super vacation destination
The hotel grounds are clean and well kept , as well as the beach and pool areas. The rooms are well maintained ,the staff are second to none and very friendly. The food, be it the restaurants or the buffet is excellent. Definitely worth the value and well worth a return holiday visit.
Excellent rooms, very spacious and clean. The staff and service is excellent and prompt. The grounds are beautifully maintained and clean. The pool area is very nice and big with lots of room. The beach is okay nothing special. The nightly entertainment could improve on the adult side of the resort, however, on the family side there is plenty of entertainment. The food was good lots of selection. My over all experience was great!

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: This is not a 5* hotel ..compared other islands..
Service is very poor at the buffets and at the beach also..No follow up from the butler or anybody else...the cards to are had to be changed every second day oufff. The one thing that was good the food in a la carte restaurant.Breakfast was more then ordinary.
The resort itself was nice with lovely gardens. Little town of Dominicus not far from resort.stayed in a garden view Bungalow that was pretty basic. There were 3 of us so we had two double beds. We had a mini fridge, however it was not stocked with anything. You do not have a coffee maker in your room either at least in the bungalows you didn’t! You receive 2 bottles of water in your washroom to brush your teeth with and drink, I am assuming, but as I mentioned there were three of us and it w[... read more]as not until I confronted the maid in person to advise her that there were three persons occupying our bungalow that she left us three bottles of water and three bath towels and hand towels. Also, they are very skimpy on the toilet paper so once again i had to mention to her we need more than one roll of toilet paper for three people or we will be using our hand towels!! We asked for wash cloths but never received them however I am always in the habit of bringing an old one from home as I know that it is hit and miss with receiving wash cloths so I like to have one with me just in case. So all three of us brought our own wash cloths!! Once I tipped the maid we started to receive a larger quantity of water bottles which we kept some of them in our fridge to keep them cold for when we needed a drink! Also started to receive quite a few more towels and rolls of toilet paper!
The buffet was just okay. Nothing Special!! The snack bar by the beach was a joke and so was the pizzeria!! They had one guy making pizza for dozens of people. The drinks were awful!! Liquor was watered down and beer on tap was warm most of the time!! If you wanted a COLD PRSEIDENTE BEER you had to buy it! I didn’t book an All- inclusive to have to go the store and buy my beer!!
The Mexican al la carte!! This was the best meal that we had! There was so much food so many courses, Quick Service and FRIENDLY WAITERS!!!! Having said that I will go on to tell you that every single waiter, bartender, anyone that you would encounter at this resort was RUDE, AND NASTY AND WOULD INGNORE YOU! (Outside of this Mexican Restaurant) No One cared about you!! The worst Customer Service I have ever encountered and I have been to the Dominican Republic well over a dozen times!!! A horrible Shame!!
Even if you said good morning or hello! There was never a response back from them!! We speak a little bit of spanish, enough to get by and have never had any problems associating with people in the Dominican republic before, as we travel frequently and and have always had the best time dealing with the staff! Even workers that maintain the property!
At this resort it just seems that the staff that are employed here are miserable and just do not like their jobs or to converse with the guests! It does not matter whether or not you tip them nothing seems to change!!! There were maybe 3 people we had dealings with that appreciated the tip and were naturally friendly!!
We were at the La Roca Pool bar one morning and when the bar opened we went up for a drink only to find no glasses within reach of the guests however there were 3 trays of clean glasses stacked behind the bar but the bartender was too busy talking to another co-worker and ingnored us standing there until my husband called to him politely “Amigo†and then we tried to gesture that we needed a glass to drink as it is a self serve draft pump for beer, water and soft drinks, so all they need to do is provide you with Clean Glasses. It was at that time he angrily looked up and started to mimic us, gesturing back and giving us a dirty look while slowly walking over to the trays of glasses and then slammed down a tray on the counter and walked away! I was horrified of his behaviour and disgusted!! I don’t work hard all year and pay good money to come to a resort to be treated in this manor!! It is totally unacceptable behaviour!! I also noticed there are NEVER any Managers nor Supervisors around anywhere to keep the staff moving along and in line!!!
Another thing that was so very unfair and frustrating was trying to get a drink at the main bars. They would not use the first come first serve rule. They would serve whomever they wanted whenever they wanted which would mean you could be standing there waiting for 10-15 minutes or longer for a very small pour that was usually warm (Beer) and that is if they had any available as there were many times they ran out and you had to wait a very long time for them to change the keg!! No one seems to know what they are doing! They are very unorganized and EXTREMELY UNDERSTAFFED, from what we could see! For a Viva Wyndham Chain we were very disappointed. I thought it would have been a much better experience.
We attended the 25 al la carte restaurant on the last night before we were leaving.. One of the WORST al la carte restaurants we have ever been in. When we walked in no one was at the podium greeting you. A lady had kept looking at us standing at the front waiting to be seated, yet she ignored us and kept cleaning tables. Never once did she say “I will be with you in one moment†or any attempt at letting us know she will be over. We waited a very long time for her to come over and take our receipt and seat us. She handed us our menus before we even sat down at the table which was very unprofessional!! We sat down and a gentleman came over and gave us water. We looked at the menu for a little while and our waiter walked back over to take our order. He came over and leaned over the empty chair and asked us if we were ready and what we wanted….. AGAIN very unprofessional!! The food WAS NOT good. My daughter could not even eat her steak it was tough and full of grissle and fat. They also don’t give you steak knives…. they give you butter knives…. so good luck trying to cut your food!! We had seen that our waiter had been bringing out pink cocktails to ALL others tables that were seated AFTER US!! Once they sat down he would give them those drinks. When I called our waiter over to ask him what that drink was and if we were suppose to receive one he couldn’t even tell me…. he had to call over to another lady and ask her. She then said it was a cosmopolitan. When my husband and I confronted him and asked were we supposed to receive those? Because everyone else that has come in you have given them one. He then said “oh you want one. And put down one that he had LEFTOVER on his tray. Never offered to give my husband or daughter one!!!! When we kept asking him if he was supposed to bring us those in the beginning when we sat down he ignored us and kept talking and laughing with another waitress. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!! After that encounter he ignored us the rest of the dinner. He never cleared our dinner plates, another waitress had to come over and do so. We waited and waited for our desserts to be brought out and they NEVER arrived so we got up and left!
We went to the buffet so my daughter could eat something as she never did eat anything there and she was starving!!! We had great weather the week from April 27th-May 4th It only rained overnight when we were asleep so we did the best to move on and and tried not to dwell too much on the ignorance of our wait staff and we tried the very best to make the most out of our vacation. Would we return there NEVER!!! Would I recommend it NO!!! For the money we paid for this resort I would have expected first class treatment!! This was the very first vacation that we can actually say we couldn’t wait to get home from!!!!!!!

From the arrival to the departure day, the smiles and fun were endless. My family had a wonderful stay and the servers were amazing. Our favourite was Jorge from the beach bar who despite the heat and hustle of people, kept his cool and humour.

The restaurants were excellent I never had a bad meal the whole time I was there from buffet to booking a gourmet restaurant at night.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Great week in LaRomana
What a week! From start to finish everything was great:
-delicious food from buffet for breakfast and lunch and a la carte every night with a reservation for 8 people ( no problem for that)
-we got our oceanfront room on ground floor on a corner unit, very big room and patio; close to pool and ocean
-easy transfer, check in and check out; since we had a late departure we were able to get another room for 25$ as we wanted to enjoy our last day
-beautiful sandy beach and a little walk on both[... read more] sides of resort; ocean water was beautiful too!
And of course the people were great and friendly! Thanks for a wonderful vacation at Luxury Bahia Bouganville!
This resort is exactly as the pictures show. The rooms are large and very clean. The restaurants were excellent and the buffets had a good variety.
Easy to find chairs at both pools and the beach. The staff at the buffets were a little disorganized and it often took quite a while to get a drink. Room service had a good menu and prompt in delivering the food. We had a few issues with the housekeeping dept, but a quick call to the concierge and the situation was rectified.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Horrendous accomodations
To whomever it may concern,Â
We are writing a formal complaint to you regarding a recent stay at the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana resort.Â
We began with a very delayed flight from Toronto Pearson Airport to Santo Domingo. After another lengthy delay waiting on the shuttle bus, we finally made it to the resort. Check in was smooth and we got to our room quite quickly without any trouble. Being greeted by a non-functioning and infested room though, was unacceptable, given the pricey $160[... read more]0 we each paid for the trip.Â
Upon stepping into the room and looking around, things were clean and in order, but we did notice the drinks in the fridge were warm, and the room did not feel as though the air conditioning was on the highest level which we ensured it was. Hoping the air would continue to cool, we attempted to use our safe to lock our personal items prior to leaving the room.Â
There were no instructions on or in the safe, and the knob on the door of it was almost broken. We left it for the night, deciding to ask someone to help us in the morning with it. An Air Transat rep gave instructions the next day for the use of it, which worked but the safe was still difficult to use due to the door knob being broken.Â
Over the week we noticed there to be a lot of mosquitoes in the suite, likely due to the humidity from the faulty air conditioner. We did not think it was abnormal until we talked to our friends a few days in to our stay. They were on the other side of the resort, and they claimed to have no bites and no mosquitoes in their functioning rooms.Â
We called the concierge desk on day 3 regarding the warm drinks in the fridge. We reached an employee who told us they would send someone to check out the fridge right away. No one showed up to our suite. We called later that night and the next day about it, no answer. No one showed to fix it during the week.Â
Day 4 we were in bed at a reasonable time, just after 11pm. Our neighboring guests were loud, obnoxious and screaming very very loudly. This went on for approximately 45 minutes to an hour. We called the concierge desk but no one answered. This went off and on the rest of the night.Â
Day 5, we noticed while using the bathroom that a few drops of water were dripping from the ceiling above the toilet. Thinking it was from the condensation from using the shower, we ignored it. This continued to day 6 even without any condensation from the shower being used. Knowing the lack of customer service we got from our previous complaints, we decided against making another complaint and left it alone as there was only one day left.Â
The final issue came on the last morning, day 7. Waking up around 9:30am, myself (Amanda) walked toward the front hallway of the suite to use the bathroom. Just as I reached where the AC vent was located, I slipped in a massive puddle of water, thankfully only getting a minor bruise to my knee. The hallway floor had flooded and water had been leaking through the ceiling where the AC was located, down the walls and creating a large puddle across the hallway. We were absolutely appalled at how this could happen and immediately placed a towel over the area to walk through and went up to the concierge desk in person to get an explanation and to clean up the room as we only had a few hours before check out.Â
At about 10am, we went to the desk and was greeted by a woman who, once we explained everything that we had been through during our stay, showed very little empathy towards our situation. We showed her a video of the damaged suite and she told us she would send a manager right away to our room. She proceeded to tell us because of the infestation in the room she wanted us out of it for at least 2 hours to “fumigateâ€. Reminding her it was our final day here, we told her we could not do that as we needed to check out by 12pm. We asked for a later check out to accommodate us as it seemed to be the least she could do considering the mess we had been dealing with. She denied our request, telling us that she needed to ensure the room was ready for the next guests, making us appear insignificant to her. Frustrated, we left the front desk and returned to our room to find no manager there let alone any one to check the leak we had showed her on the video. Finally, a cleaning lady knocked on our door and was quite alarmed at the water pooled on the floor. She replaced two towels down, and left. We proceeded to pack our things, and waited until 12pm to leave and check out. In those few hour between us filing the complaint and her telling us a manager would be there, not a single other employee showed up to our room.Â
We find this an unacceptable way to treat your guests who pay for a 5 star resort. The accommodations we had were horrendous compared to what we were expecting and this will be the last time we stay at a Grand Bahia resort, and use Air Transat services, including trip central.Â
We would like a response, an explanation and a solution to these issues in a timely manner. This was completely unacceptable, and we will not refrain from sharing this experience with other potential guests to ensure people know exactly what to expect from a resort that is claimed to be 5-star like this.Â
As mentioned above, we do have a video of the pool of water and leakage from the final day of our stay, which we will happily show you. We look forward to your responses.Â

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Great Resort!!
This was a very nice resort! The staff were pleasant and eager to help. The overall size of the resort was great, it only took 5 minutes to walk everywhere! Cant wait to take the kids with us next time. :)
