Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: Most disappointing trip , first time to Mexico
First time traveller to Mexico and wished we were warned about the "snake pit" at the airport, The husslers, nearly cost us missing our bus connection, plus the Air Transit represnetative was not observable to help direct us to the connecting hotel bus. We sent everywhere by Mexican husslers in the aiport who apprear to be legitimate travel assistants. NOT .. so be aware, just walk through to the outside without giving any eyecontact , and look for a representative, it is chaos there.
Second[... read more]ly, the Air Transat rep at the us is very rude and not helpful at all, aswell as the meeting with rep at the hotel. Went to the scheduled meeting at hotel, no rep., someone when to fine the person. The person eventurally arrive, and was not welcomng, language barrier, only concerned to selll off hotel tours.. did not know anything about the local area, buses etc. I was other tourists who educated us... never again will I go to Occcidental .
1. Arrived and told we were up graded. We thoough how nice. well, not, we were in a closed off room with no windows to open, only to listen to the music nightlfy from othere hotels, and under our room was as the supply area. Every day woke to deliveries , beeping, etc . and ending every night with loud music from the hotel next door.. SOME upgrade.. to add to this was a disgusting odor from the inside of our night table, all of our personal items took on the odor or what smelled like animal urine,, it was disgusting. No fresh air, moldy air conditioners, and woke to workers drilling 10 other rooms having the air conditioner serviced... not ours.
Complained to desk and asked to be moved after a frustrating week of no sleep. Was told to return the next day, did that, was told no one knew about about the complaint, come back next day and to find that a couple 2 doors down, complained becasue thier tv did not work and were moved that night ....returned 3 rd day to the evening manager who took us seriously, came to room and had the night bed exchanged and them said he will have a "surprise" the following day ... suprise , not surprise .. one hand does not know what the other is doing at the front desk. The departure day after 2 weeks on no sleep, and constant noise, and lack of action, the front desk could not find our reservation with our personal informations -- copy of our passport ... no one could find it, and showed no concern for the fact our passport information was misplaced... I have since written the manager. Accomodations rate - old dumpy... however, the cleaning staff were lovely, responsive and very kind! as I became very sick from the mold in the air conditioner.
Food variety very good, and generous in choices. The 3 restarants are a nice change fa nice change from daily crash bang caferteria and line ups to get in. The pool is often filled early in am filling up with americans who enjoy drinking at 8 am and stay in pool all day. No fun, loud obnoxious , resort .. I lived at the beach where peddlers constantly bugging people to buy something .. it never ended. Overall, if you like to drink, booze flies constantly, the lounge is taken up by sports people, always full of americans wthinc bloody football,, the resort offers very little for options, your are stuck with the same old pool junkies, and the lounge is taken over by 8 tvs of sports , It it is your thing, knowck yourself out. The best thing, was perfect sunny weather while is stormed her in Ontario.. would I recommend air transat or Occidental , not on your life. I an extensive traveller and it was the worst holiday I ever had. It was alot like Cuba but at Cuba you know what to expect.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Quite disappointing
Prior to 2020 we used to travel to Cocos in RDG fairly regularly. Royal(Grand) DeCameron was always touted as the better higher end version of Cocos. Our experience certainly did not reflect that. The service staff in the bars and restaurants and the room cleaning staff were wonderful as always but the front desk staff were not.
We paid for a room upgrade when booking, when we arrived the desk clerk said we would love Block 2 because of the great views and it would be fairly quiet(our other re[... read more]quest). The ocean views were good but the room was way less than 1 star and certainly not what someone should expect when paying for an upgrade.
We complained the following morning and were told nothing was available for one more night(29% of the trip), but we had no choice. The desk clerk was also very rude and frosty after I pointed out to him that this was not what we should have been offered when we had paid for upgrades when booking in October.
We were moved to Block 4 where the rooms were better... in comparison and also quieter. The light over the bathroom sink didn't work, when I went to ask for a fix, the same front clerk took my information. You can imagine how well that went. This was Day 3, after multiple days of asks, the light bulb was changed on Day 5.
All in all, I would not recommend or ever go back. In comparison Cocos in RDG is a gem!!!

Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta: 1 week at Krystal Puerto Vallarta
relatively small resort. easy to get around as we travelled with people who had mobility issues. We hadgreat views from our oceanfront rooms on the 8th floor. The food was pretty good on the buffet, and we enjoyed the specialty restaurants. The staff was amazing, hard working and friendly. The only problem we encountered was the lack of lounge chairs poolside.

Decameron Isla Coral: First time to Guayabitos
We stayed at Isla Coral Jan22-29,2025
The hotel is a little dated but clean.
The buffet was good some mornings they were out of eggs by 9am.
The lobby bartender Jorge was amazing and very knowledgeable about the area and resort. Carmen in the buffet was very friendly and spoke pretty good English The entertainment was lacking
The pool was extremely cold and only got sunshine a few hours in the morning. The beach was wonderful.

Friendly Fun Vallarta: A great home base to explore Puerto Vallarta
We really enjoyed our stay at Friendly Fun Vallarta. The general vibe of the place is quite relaxed and pleasant, perfect to rest and recharge away from the Canadian winter. It is very conveniently located on the beach within a 40 minute walk to the Malacon and a 20 minute walk to the Port. The public areas were clean and bright, staff were very courteous and efficient. We found the food quality and selection to be quite good at both the buffet and a la carte restaurants. Pools were beautiful. [... read more]Rooms were spacious and clean but a bit dated. Beds were comfortable with great pillows. Good pressure and lots of hot water in the shower.
There were, however, a few things that were mildly inconvenient. First, in a room with 2 queen sized beds, there was only one bedside table between the two, while my husband and I each had glasses, phones, books, and other accessories that would have been much more convenient if they were located on tables on each side of the bed. We also ended up leaving our suitcases lying open on the second bed as there were no drawers, cabinets or places to put our clothing in the room other than on the coat hangers in the closet. We also found it odd that there were both a table and a desk in the room but only a single chair despite the occupancy of the room being up to 4 adults.
These things aside, we had a wonderful week exploring the city and enjoying perfect weather and would not hesitate to plan a return visit to Friendly Fun Vallarta for another stay in the future.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Would I return,, YES
We stayed in Block No 1, Please note that these rooms need to be updated, do not expect a luxury setting or hot water very often for that, yet clean enough, but once you open up that patio door it did not take long for the room negativity to go away with the amazing views. The grounds were well kept with the bars being an arms length away. The food was actually not to bad with always something to eat no mater what time of day. To switch up you can take a walk to Bucerias where you will encounter[... read more] little cafés, restaurants and no shortage of gift shops, we actually did this walk twice and felt very safe as their are other tourist. Went also took the tour Rhythm of the night and enjoyed it. Dinner was good but one suggestion is to bring a sweater or jacket for the return boat ride.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Great resort! Great location!
The Grand Decameron Bucerias is a very nice resort, within walking distance of centro Bucerias.
The resort is spread out with several different blocks of rooms and 6 pools. So there's lots of choice whether you want quiet or more active.
The beach is wide and has lots of palapas for shade. There's also free use kayaks, which was fun for our group.
There are 2 main buffets, we liked the one by the activity pool, there was a nice selection of foods to choose from. I did find that food was[... read more] never hot though, just warm, not sure if it's because the steam tables weren't turned up enough or because the lids were never closed. The staff was helpful and attentive. The other buffet had less selection I found, but the food was hot. It gets busy though, I prefer not to wait. We did a few a la cartes, the best was Mediterranean
(Italian) it was awesome!! The Brazilian was good too if you like your meat!
The pools were a little on the cool side, but once you're in, it's fine.
The rooms are standard, beds were firm, they have mattress toppers on request, good water pressure and no shortage of hot water. AC worked really well!
I found all staff were friendly and made us feel like they were happy to have us there.
There was nightly shows early by the pool and then at the amphitheater at 9:30.
There was guests of all walks of life, leaning more to 50+ there were families as well.
We really enjoyed our stay, and would be happy to return again.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Pretty good
It’s decent resort for the money you spend. Rooms are basic but everything was functional and clean. We stayed closer to the beach m, which we loved. The grounds are well kept and there are lots of activities during the day for those interested. Food was basic but good quality and you could always find something decent. It’s super close to Bucerías town centre which is such a great way to shake it up, roam around and eat authentic local food if you’re sick of all inclusive. We did the 20 min bea[... read more]ch walk to town a few times - picturesque, safe and lots of great places to eat/ drink either on the beach or in town. The beach is beautiful and stretches out into each direction. The ocean is not your crystal clear turquoise paradise water, but clean. There are sting rays and water snakes to watch out for but it didn’t stop us from swimming every day. Shuffle your feet when you’re walking into the ocean to avoid stepping on anything. Very close to Puerta Vallarta for city exploration, excursions, whale watching and La Caletas coast visits (highly recommend).

Friendly Fun Vallarta: We love this resort
This was our 4th time in Puerto Vallarta and 4th time at this resort. We wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else. The staff are amazing and go out of their way to help you have a great time! We spent most of our time in the adult only area which was perfect for us. This is a smaller, quieter resort. If you are looking for lots of party-like events, The Friendly Fun is not for you.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Great Place, would go again
Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias is a very good resort, clean and well maintained, meal services very good, nice beach area with darker sand, clean water with no sea grass at all during January, bikes and kayaks available free of charge, local village right next to the resort and further down a good trail taking you to resorts south of this location, rooms very clean with a small fridge to, Wi-Fi was better than expected being available on the balcony of rooms in block 4 and also along the wall [... read more]where the Ocean front rooms were ( could have been good other locations too ), pools not so large or deep. Not a night person the evening music could be loud depending on the room location, Block 4 was fairly good to not hear it too loudly however if the room was between Block 4 and 3 some additional noise from the deliveries early in the morning to the restaurant. Shower is a little dated still more than acceptable with plenty of hot water. In the future I would consider going again, also at time of our booking was one of the best priced places in the region.

the Decameron Los Cocos in Guayabitos is an older hotel that appears to be under renovation. the rooms are old but clean and ours was freshly painted. staff were pleasant but had little english when we had requests or to ask questions. Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Great Moments: Very clean resort
Staff are wonderful, very friendly, helpful & kind. Lots of wonderful food to choose from. Room we beautiful & clean. Beds comfortable. My only dislike, I was sick for 2 days, my family member tried to bring me some food from the buffet, & they were told they could not do that. I could not drink the water there. When asked at the front desk for extra bottled water in the room, we were told no.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Great stay second visit would definitely recommend.
My friend and I visited this resort for a week Jan 11-17 2025. We had a wonderful stay. Our room was spacious and clean, the food was delicious with a lot of selection and so were the a la carte restaurants. The drinks were plentiful and the bartenders were excellent. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful and I would recommend this resort to anyone. Friends, families and couples. It seemed to be an older crowd, but maybe that is because it is farther from Puerto Vallarta. We did tak[... read more]e an Uber there one day and it was about 30CAD each way.
Cons: The wifi did not work in our room. I was in block 3 near the lobby, but when we were in our room we could not connect. I know 3rd world problem, but just letting you know. However it was awesome on the beach near the bar and by the pools.
2nd Con was the Westjet rep. We decided to book an excursion and booked through him afterwards finding out that it would have been cheaper to book online direct. Also he told us we had to leave the resort at 6:15am, only to reach the office and be told that we didn't have to be there until 9am. So we could have had breakfast and a more leisure morning instead of starving and sitting at the office for an additional 2.5 hrs. Apparently they sent the rep an email of the time change and he did not forward that to us. So do yourself a favor and book online direct with the actual companies.
