This resort was beautiful. Only a two suggestions. 1. Fans needed in bathroom. 2. Need to upgrade the House Wine.
Otherwise we have no complaints and we would recommend this Resort. The food was amazing. It was wonderful to not have to make reservations for the Restaurants. We loved the Indian and the Italian so much they were visited twice during our 10 day stay. The beach was perfect.

Great vacation!
We stayed with 2 other couples at this resort and had a fantastic time! Resort was big enough to have lots of restaurant options but not too big to require shuttles. Beautiful grounds, immaculately kept. Friendly hardworking staff. Excellent food. Lots of beach/pool loungers, no matter when we arrived for the day.

Great Vacation
I have to say the Riu Repulbica resort is quite a beautiful place to visit. The check in desk was fast a courtesy. The staff on the resort was friendly and the food was amazing. Great nightly entertainment as well as pool side entertainment. I would definitely rate the resort an 8.5 out of 10

This Hotel should have rating 3 Stars
I was there with my 2 sons, booked 2 rooms. 1st my room phone did not work. I complained for 3 consecutive days and finally on day 3, I was told that it is not fixable and they moved me to a different room, this time closer to my sons, however it was not Garden View as requested and payed for. When in this the phone was working, however Shower was not as well as Hair Dryer was not and the room safe was locked. I advised the reception and the Shower and Hair Dryer were then fixed but the safe in [... read more]the room NOT. It was not corrected during my entire stay, I had a huge concern about my valuables as I needed to take them with me everywhere. I was not able to enjoy the pool or the ocean as I was continually concerned about my valuables and therefore confined to my pool or beach chair. Food was OK as well as service in the restaurants, however only local wine and extremely limited international liquors .... most liguors mentioned on their menu were not available during my entire stay. NO I would not recommend this resort for anyone seeking 4 or 5 star accommodations. On the positive .... relatively new hotel with lots of choices for dinning.

Solid 4.5 star resort
The RIU is very large, I understand more than 1300 rooms.
Pros
-New resort - everything is fresh and new and works, Rooms are clean and bright
-Food was very good
-Gardens are well kept
-Staff were friendly
-Hotel manager was very helpful when we ran into problems
- Resort and beach were kept clean and bright
Cons
-Hard to get away from the noise between 9 and 11 pm - we were originally at the back of the hotel (new section) by the sound stage. If you are not a late nighter you will not[... read more] be sleeping if anywhere near either of the resorts stages. Management changed our room and moved us nearer the front of the resort - much better.
- The Beach is seriously crowded. I expect when they added the new section the overcrowding began. wall to wall chairs. If you walk down the beach the resort stands out because of the open expanses of beach at all the other resorts except at the RIU which is noticeably congested.
- There does not seem to be a reef protecting the beach at the resort. It as very rough all week. We like wave hopping but this was extreme. First few days waves were at times in excess of 10 feet in waist deep water. We were tumbled repeatedly and quite violently. Also there is an undertow. We witnessed one rescue of a swimmer that was swept out to the buoy line. It was a close call. The rescue team and life guards did a good job bringing them back from the brink. The swimmer was on his back for about a half hour.
- Very few bathrooms near the beach and pools. We did not go into the very, large, busy, and crowded swim up bar pools (3). Given the lack of bathrooms we ended up calling them the Pee Pools. They shock them at night and they turn a milky colour. Not nice.
- Very slow service in the steak house - the only restaurant we tried. 2 hours for the meal with an hour between appetizers and main course. It is overcrowded and understaffed.
- I like the architecture of many of the resorts we have visited over the years. Did not find it here. Everything is block concrete construction and identical throughout and all painted white. Very bright but drab. Has a bit of a soviet block mass housing look.
- We would not go back because of the over crowding and noise. If those things don't bother you will like the resort - expect 4.5 star service.

Beautiful Hotel but not 5 Star status
- The room we had was not in the first complex so we did have to do quite a bit of walking, which was unfortunate. We were grateful that they had elevators
- Our room was quite large and cleaned regularly.
- The hotel is certainly gorgeous in regards to decor
- The food was standard of an all inclusive. One unfortunate thing was everywhere we went the dishes were dirty. I had to continually look through the stacks to find clean ones, some of the cups were chipped, tables were not wiped [... read more]off, etc.
- The resort is obviously understaffed in regards to the dining aspects
- This resort seemed to be more geared to "very young adults" as their drunkenness was out of control. One young adult threw up in one of the pools while others could barely stand.
- The beach is not a private beach. It was extremely small and dirty. Since it is the Atlantic there were high waves (the red flag was up for quite a few days), you could not swim in it, nor snorkel in it so we stayed by one of the quieter pools for our trip. Many people we spoke to suffered from injuries from the waves, many had back braces, arms in slings, knee braces, etc. The undertow was very strong and dangerous.
- Smoking was certainly an issue especially in the lounge and show areas. We could not sit out on our balcony either because we had smokers on each side of us
- The shows were very good - the best that I have seen at an all inclusive
- The staff were very friendly and helpful
While we did have a lovely time, we won't consider visiting this resort again in the future. We would prefer a smaller more intimate resort with good walk ability, a better beach and one that is for couples to ensure that we are not surrounded by a younger partying crowd.
While the decor is certainly 5 star, we felt that the overall resort was a 4 - 4.5 star.

Not a 5 Star!
We found this resort to be too big, too crowded and very noisy. Generally a younger crowd that liked to party 24/7. The resort itself is well maintained and only a few years old. Food was generally poor and the so-called specialty restaurants were mainly buffets which specialized food dishes.
The beach is great with miles of soft sand however, during our 10 day stay there were rough seas virtually every day.
With a few exceptions, the staff was not that engaging with the guests.
Overall,it wo[... read more]uld be a generous to even classify the resort as a 4 star. Would not return to this resort and would also not recommend it to others.

Will not go back
First let me start this by saying, we like to travel to places where we can relax and get some down time...we are not partiers although we do like to dance. This resort did its absolute best to cater to ALL AGES of adults, but there was definitely a TON of noise....very, very huge resort so if you are looking to get away from crowds, this is NOT the place.
We were able to find a few little quiet spots, far left end of the beach by the Hard Rock, right next to Coco's bar, a cute little bar tha[... read more]t played latin music we could dance to in between drinks. NOTE: NO BAR SERVICE AT THE BEACH, but some of the bartenders have started coming around with random drinks on a tray to the beach...be kind, please TIP them! Alot of young people did not respect the "quiet side" of the beach as I was told it was....loud music...others around, not myself, finally asked them to turn it off.
The food was wonderful; for an all-inclusive, I found there was alot of selection and decent quality. For drinks, unfortunately, no caesars, but they do make bloody marys and alot of very fruity drinks. The wine...they have two reds...be sure to ask for either "sec" or "dulce" depending on what you want. Rose wine was there and white. Some say the wine is terrible....I was able to find one red that was palatable enough for me for the week.
MY BAD: I did not factor in how the 3 hour time change would affect our stay, so we missed breakfast most days of the week, as it would have had us up around 6am our time to make it for breakfast at 10am there, to have at least an hour to eat before there was nothing left and they closed at 11am. For this reason we also chose not to book excursions...as I said, we were there to relax, not get up to an alarm.
The Michael Jackson show was truly amazing, but most other shows fell short of any quality entertainment after that.
The two evening live music acts played the same set every time they were there, so get used to hearing repeat material, particularly if you have a trained music ear.
We had a very, very bad room on check in, despite our travel agent's request 3 months earlier for near the water/ king bed. We had near the...VERY LOUD... generators, twin beds. After complaining to the front desk, we had to spend a night in room 3004, the next day at 2pm moved to another room that met the TA's emailed requests.
The hallways echo quite a bit, and with partiers coming back at 2am local time, and the maids starting up at 9am local time...6am for us...with their walkie talkie radios at full volume, blasting every single radio communication in the resort, it was tough to get much sleep here. I have no idea why they cannot wear those radios on their belts like all other resort staff AND turn the volume DOWN.
The staff did a wonderful job keeping the rooms clean, but the bar gets stocked only every second day, and you have to call if you want more water or anything else. We did not get routinely stocked once our entire week we were there...once got a note that we had our "do not disturb" sign up and they would come back in 2 days or we could call, but we had to call every single time after that.
RIU falls short with no garbage bin liners in the garbages in the rooms, and I'm quite sure they can afford it for a "5*" resort. Dropping wet coffee liners or feminine products into an unlined can is hardly sanitary and boggles my mind as to why this is overlooked.
SAND FLEAS: Read up on these critters because we were unaware and I was bitten quite badly...bug spray needs to be for FLEAS as well, not just mosquitos...unbeknown to us.
The ocean and sand is stunning, but with a shoddy treatment by Sunwing added to all the shortfalls of this resort, we will definitely be spending more and heading elsewhere next time.
I'm very, very disappointed to have to make this review, however, if you are looking for a quiet getaway and have limited time for a holiday, keep looking past this resort. spend your hard-earned money elsewhere.
If you are a partier and don't sleep, you may get a ton of value for your buck here.

Ok
The resort was new, large with many pools and restaurants. It was very clean and the food was good. Seems like we were there during Spring Break as majority of the people were 18-25. Several people Had to be removed from the pools in wheelchairs as they could not walk. We tried Asian and Italian restaurants, both were great. We walked out of Indian and Steak. Buffet was good.

The property was very nice & well maintained. There was always a wait to access the specialty restaurants. The Steakhouse was always in demand, but it seemed understaffed.

Fire Safety a Major Concern
The resort, people and food were excellent but garbage is incinerated 2 kms from here causing rooms to smell like fire. There was 2 nights where the fire alarm lights (stage 1) went off most of the night inside our rooms and the hall ways of the new buildings. Staff told us "no problems". Plumes of smoke were outside our room, there was no way we could just go back to our room and try and sleep. RIU management and Sunwing had no resolve for us except telling us to email both companies. We had no[... read more] assistance from the Sunwing emergency email except that our concern would be forwarded to the Toronto office. Sleepless nights and fire safety concerns is not my idea of a good vacation.

Great new and modern facility
Found the staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Only draw back is that beach is vast but water extremely rough. Apparently because it is on the Atlantic side the waves are always strong...great if you surfboard etc., but for average swimmer under currents are too strong. Entertainment at night so so....and loud until around 11 pm, especially if you have a Court Yard room. Buffet was best deal for choice and quality..forget the fine dining restaurant but the best was the Steak House. Wild[... read more] dune buggy excursion fun as was zip lining. Quite a number of pools to choose from so you could be where there was a lot going on or others that were quiet and serene. All in all my whole family enjoyed the Riu Republic, and we have a lot of fond memories. Highly recommend accommodation.

Great Resort
I read through the many reviews of this hotel as I usually do before leaving for my vacation to pick up tips about any essentials I need to pack. Most of the reviews were negative, complaining about the food, the beach, the air conditioning, etc., none of which I experienced at this great hotel. I have traveled to many all inclusive resorts and this one is my absolute favourite for entertainment. With so many pools and swim-up bars to choose from, each with a different vibe, you could always [... read more]find just the right spot. There were chairs galore on the beach and at the pools and unlike most resorts, they didn't seem to be saved with unused towels all day by others who never showed up. There were exercise programs and games all day long scattered throughout this large resort. The entertainment staff were so friendly, always smiling and engaging, but not too pushy. The water slides were crazy fun and well managed. With 2 separate stages for entertainment in the evening and the disco afterwards for the late nighters, there was something for everyone. I loved the smaller stage that closed around 11pm each night as it was more interactive with the audience and there was lots of dancing. The larger stage actually had more professional acts than other resorts I've been to. This adults only resort does not have a Spring Break vibe, there were visitors young and old mixing together with no segregated areas where you felt out of place. If you are tired of the tired entertainment at other resorts, you gotta check it out!

I stayed at this resort dec 1-8. I have been to many resorts in cuba and mexico but this is the best resort I have ever been to. What stands out the most is how clean everything and every place in the resort was. Workers were so friendly. Nobody was trying to sell you a timeshare. The drinks were amazing. The food was excellent. Presentation of the food was unbelievable and every day on the buffet was different and such a huge selection. The beach was beautiful.
