Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Nice Resort

Just got back from Grand Bahia, we found it to be a beautiful clean resort, excellent service with a smile through out the complex, rooms were very nice, food was good, only disappointment was the beach it was not what we expected, water is quite murky doesn't compare to Playa Dorado Beach

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Excellent resort

Excellent location, particularly for wind watersports. Plenty of lounge chairs around the pool and on the beach. Very friendly staff. Buffet was so great that there was no real need to eat at la carte restaurants (we made only two reservations during our 2 week stay). Rooms were freshly renovated. The main drawback: the free internet was available only at the lobby and it was so slow that was practically unusable. The paid internet was very expensive (USD 15/day per device) so I ended up turni [... read more]ng on data roaming on my phone and using it as a hot spot for other devices (still quite expensive). Would be nice to have a jacuzzi in the pool area.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Beautiful resort

Loved it! All amenities were close by. Beautiful pool, clean beach, clean grounds and the buffet menu changed every day. Getting the mini bar re-stocked daily was a problem, as was the fact that guests who had booked two rooms because they were staying as families were denied one room on arrival. They wanted to send us to another hotel as they were overbooked, just for the night. We would get a room the following day at 3:00pm. That was frustrating as we had booked three months earlier and a cou [... read more]ple that had booked just the week before had a room!! We hardly ever travel, so this was very upsetting as we were with our daughter and her family. The five of us spent the night in their room. Over all, except for that, we had a very enjoyable time, after all was sorted out and we got two rooms the next afternoon. I'd be afraid to recommend this hotel in case this happened to a friend. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and the cleaning, bar and wait staff made us very welcome.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Over-Booked Rooms!

We arrived at the hotel at 12:30am, we were the first ones off of the bus to check in and were told that one of the rooms that we had booked (we were travelling with my parents) was flooded. The main desk told us that the 5 of us would have to share a room for the night, but that they would give us the $21 lock for free for the week. Apparently the rooms were already assigned to guests and despite the fact that we booked and paid in full in October (and were the first people checking in) there [... read more] was only one room available for the 5 of us. The next morning we realized that everyone from our bus that had more than one room booked were in the same boat as we were, however none of the single rooms were effected. This was obviously a scam to receive double payment from the people on their last night and the people arriving. We ended up having both rooms upgraded to Superior, free WiFi and free lock for the week. But we wasted a day of our vacation fighting for an upgrade for the inconvenience and moving rooms. When we did finally change rooms, half of the amenities did not work. When the staff were notified of this, they explained that we were using them wrong (How do you use a shower drain wrong?!?!). Very unfortunate because the hotel was beautiful and most of the staff were wonderful, however I would NEVER go back. Not having what you paid so much money for at check in can really ruin a vacation and point out many other things that weren't up to par, that you probably wouldn't have noticed if you just had your 2 rooms to begin with.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Not a 4 star.

Food was terrific, rooms and bathrooms are small and very dated. We were Bit by a lot of bugs and spiders in our room. We had a spider crawling on our bed and beds mattresses are very hard. Pool was fine. Overall resort is old and dated. Water pressure totally sucked if you could get water to have a shower and just warm water, never hot water. We never got clean towels or wash clothes replaced. Overall rating a 2.5 - 3 star.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great Weather!!!

A very good 4 star resort! Staff was very friendly and the resort very clean. Service was excellent although wifi, television reception and dinner reservation process very frustrating at times. The purchasing of a keyed lock for room safe was an additional charge of $4 per day. "Stocked" room bar fridge consisted of two beers, bottled water and soda.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Excellent Service, However

A slightly older resort, in fact it's Bahia Principe's oldest resort. The rooms are tired, food is average to better than average. The staff are awesome, always saying hello and wanting to serve. Our A/C stopped working everyday and we had to call and have it fixed each and every day. The TV only had 2 English stations and didn't work for half the weeks trip. The price was good which would bring me back and as one might expect some issues with a reasonable price. The beach is great, service  [... read more]was great but don't expect much. The resort is listed at 4 stars, the resort shows 5 on their wall behind the main desk, but is a 3 to 3.5 stars in my humble opinion. This has been my 2nd time to this resort and had a horrible sewer issue.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Second stay

I've stayed at this hotel twice now. If you get it for a good price it's defiantly worth it. There are some minor things that would really make the hotel great. My favourite thing about the Be Live is the pool, there are 3 sections to it and it is always clean. The grounds are clean and full of flowers. The beach is ok, there were never enough lawn chairs but the hotel was very busy. The rooms are a little plain, fridges were stocked with soda, water and beer always. We were returning guest but [... read more] our room was not as good as our first room, our first room had a better view and no ceiling water marks. Food is good, it's repetitive but there's always something to eat, burgers, hot dogs, pasta, rice etc. One big con was the service in the buffet, we rarely got water, we always had to get up and get it out selves. The bar staff was nice especially the manager in that department he made an effort to get to know us and do all he could. The entertainment was just ok. During the day there was some games going on and beach volleyball, the basic things. Night entertainment could use a lot more energy, the shows were ok. Overall if you get Be Live for a good price it's a good stay.

My friends and I had a good time. We met a lot of nice people and made friends that will likley be future travel buddies. The food was great and enjoyed the a la cartes very much. The rooms were certainly good enough though our refrigerator did not work, but they replaced it immediately. Drinks were very good and the pool was a bit cool, which is my preference. The only complaint I would put forth was the beach. The shoreline was very dirty and sand flees bit my legs many time. Some did not get [... read more] bitten but myself and my friend were absolutely attacked so if your a beach lover this may not be the spot for you. Though that is an issue for some overall we enjoyed the trip very much.

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Not all hotel rooms are created equal

We traveled as a group of 12 adults and 2 toddlers and availed a total of 6 rooms at the Lifestyle Tropical Resort. My friend and I, both have toddlers in tow, were assigned in Building#1. Rooms were dated which I can live with and was actually able to tolerate. However, the water pipes in the toilet when you flush makes a loud noise afterwards, comparable to that of a pipe about to burst. I called for the maintenance 3 times. First on our first night soon after we checked in and got settled [... read more] in our room. I didn't know what it was and was afraid that it would actually burst. The toilet made that sound every time we flushed the toilet the whole time we were there. We tolerated that...it goes away after a couple of minutes. Second call was on our final evening, after using the toilet, the noise wouldn't go away for over 30mins and it was already 2am, it got so loud it woke up my daughter! Lastly, I called for the maintenance because the blow dryer, which is provided in the hotel room, all of a sudden had sparks flying while I was using it and almost burned some of my hair! Water pressure was on and off, and sometimes no hot water which was an issue bathing a 2 year old. Our other friends got rooms at buildings #2 and #3 and they're a bit newer in some essence. No water pressure or temperature issue or loud noises on the pipes after using the toilet. Also, on our last day, we were provided a "hospitality suite" to change and get ready as we had to check out of our hotel rooms at 12noon, but our flight was not until later in the evening. One of the rooms we got as a "hospitality suite" is on Building#5, and it's a lot newer!!! Newer everything. I am not sure how the room assignment are given during booking but if you can ask your travel agent to at least avoid Building#1. The resort is nice and clean. Lots of pools. Cabanas in the VIP beach area is amazing. Food is delicious...check out Belini, Italian restaurant, for one of your a la carte dinners. Housekeeping does a good job in cleaning our hotel room all the time. Staffs are attentive, friendly and accommodating. Overall, the resort is good. Just the rooms.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Viva wyndham v heaven review

Overall, great hotel for relaxing! We are 27 and came out there to get married. Couple things to note. The staff are amazing!!! I lost my insulin pens on our flight in and the staff were exceptional to make sure I found a pharmacy to get needles. Took hours but they did everything they could. Was so thankful! We were sorta skeptical of the "animation staff" at first because they made rude comments to my fiance. Plus they seemed like they belonged at a strip club how they grinder on peole. Howeve [... read more]r, some were very friendly once you talked to them. Regardless we referred to them as the dominican "s club 7" the whole time we were there and avoided their presence. We went to relax not to have people in little to nothing to wear constantly in our face trying to us to do the ymca. Maybe for older couples they were awesome but not for us. Food at sofritas was awesome and most buffets. The other restaurants were so so. Chicken club for room service!! Rooms were clean and Maids did a good job (even though they walked in at 9 am sometimes, do not disturb signs might be helpful). You may be disappointed with the rooms at first sight because what people determine as 5 star here may not be the same there. There were chips, cracks, few stains but gotta keep in mind where you are. If your a couple deciding to get married on this resort though , Def 5+. The photographer is amazzzing (highly recommended) and so are the staff who put it together. Would recommend in that regard. The resort felt safe but if you are someone looking to party hard this place is not for you. Cheers! Ps we got very sick coming home careful of the food!!

Riu Merengue: Good resort

The front desk never did send a blanket to my room The maid only did her job 100 percent if you left a tip. (We didn't one day becaise we couldn't get small bills so she didn't give us any towels....and to add insult to injury, she even took the Swan towel that we kept by the bed) the food was good The entertainment was not. I'd recommend the Bachata over the merangue... better wifi, food and entertainment and has a swim up bar.

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Amazing resort

It was our first all inclusive vacation and I would definitely go back. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Every where I went they made sure we were well taken care of. I was so sad to leave. Overall amazing experience:)

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Ladies' Week

Blue Bay Villas Doradas is a lovely place for a vacation. Our room was large, clean and airy as we had windows around a corner. The grounds are lovely and the food is good with the vegetables done to perfection every time. The 3 a la cartes served delicious food and the service was efficient and courteous. Because this is a smaller resort the "animation" team supplied much of the entertainment with professional dancers showing up a couple of times. We were at the beach most of the time, lounging, swimming and walking. The staff is friendly and courteous. All in all, a very nice resort and a short bus ride from the airport.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Awesome Resort!!!

The iberostar costa dorada was excellent! this was my first all inclusive vacation and im glad i chose the iberostar. the hotel room was always nice and clean, and the amenities and grounds were all excellent!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: just great resort

The resort was great very nice lobby, grounds very well kept, public bathrooms super clean I was very impressed with it all. My room was very nice staff very friendly.I would go back again and would definitly refer my friends . I was near the beach and the beach restaurant which made it very handy. The weather was just perfect. Holiday was to short should have gone for 10 days.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Enjoyed our stay

This resort was good value. The rooms were kept clean, the grounds also immaculate. The food was very good especially the Brazilian restaurant which was the highlight of our stay! The evening entertainment was just okay. The pool was great but hard to get lounge chairs unless you come out early. We didn't use the beach much as there was a red flag the whole week (rough water and very windy). Also, it was difficult to get dry beach towels (could be because there were many rain showers and p [... read more]eople were trying to exchange their wet towels). The service was friendly but often long line ups to get drinks at the pool bar. No good coffee anywhere - warm instant in the buffet, push button machine coffee in two of the bars. I may go back, but most likely try something else next time.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Our family vacation

They have a very clean resort. Lots of activities to do. Easy to book excursion with. Book your all a carts right away as they book up. Personally my daughter and I really enjoyed the brazillian restaurant while my hubby and son loved the Japanese. The dive staff were amazing and fun to dive with. Very professional. Only issue was people putting towels on chairs to hold them. That you never saw anyone use. So our theory was if there was no one in the ocean and seat were empty for 30 minutes we m [... read more]oved the towels and used them. Evening shows were entertaining. And entertainment staff worked hard to involve everyone. We feel it was very good value for our stay.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Nice resort

The resort was beautiful. There were lots of pools to choose from. The beaches were nice but the water was a bit rough. There were waves everyday. The rooms were clean and our cleaning lady was amazing. Not sure I like the different coloured wrist bands, I felt like we were divided into classes. These bands let you into different areas. So if you were the lower class you couldn't go to certain beaches and the staff was right there to let you know.
