We just got back from spending 10 days at Peuerto Bonito Blanco. What an amazing resort. I can't say enough about the friendly efficient and helpful staff. Location is ideal and food and drinks were great. The only thing that may have been added was more onsite entertainment. Thank you for a great vacation.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Fabulous resort
We had a good 2 week stay at this resort. The resort is large but everything was easy to get to. The weather was perfect with only 1 rainy day where they held the outdoor activities in the lobby. The pool was really nice but found it was cold in the morning but warmed up later in the day. The room was spacious with the most comfortable beds. I had the best sleeps while I was there. The showers were big but very slippery. Our package had a trip to Playa del Carmen which we took advantage of. [... read more]Nice town with lots of souvenirs and hi end stores. We only reserved 1 dinner which was at the Italian restaurant and it was very good. A large variety of food in the buffet restaurant. Saturday was Mexican theme night in the buffet restaurant and vendors came in and sold their products. Thursday afternoon is the foam party in the swim up pool. Lots of fun. The entertainment group got you involved in different activities. The only downfall is the resort is in the boonies so you had to take a cab where ever you went.
A great resort with lots of fun.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Favorite Resort
This was 3rd stay at Sian Kaan. Did not disappoint. Excellent experience from checkin to check out. The proximity to PGA Riviera Maya (a Robert Trent Jones designed gol course) is the highlight for me. Playing golf at sunrise leaves the rest of the day to enjoy the resort. Appreciate the service at the pool, lobby bar and restaurants. Enjoyable selections of food. There is lot of construction in the area with the new train. So not as peaceful as it was the last time. A visit during hi[... read more]gh season meant the resort was busier but will always be my preferred place for winter escape for golf and sub from the winter.

Decameron La Marina: Not For Me
I was travelling in group of people 62 to 73. My understanding is that the building is only 4 years old so the rooms were in good shape and comfortable. We found the grounds very limited as the resort has 7 floors on a U shape with the pool, buffet, snack bar, bar and karaoke in the middle, with rooms wrapped around them. There was always loud music playing from 10:00 am till 10:00 pm. Food was good how ever there only the two restaurants, no a lacarte restaurants. There were 10 spots available[... read more] for a lacate at the sister resort ( 3 walking minutes away) but you could only go at 8:00 or 8:30 pm. The resort did not have a clear system in place for these a lacarts and from desk staff seemed to always have to be calling on a supervisor in order to approve any a lacarte bookings. I do realize I am in another country but communication was challenging as staff spoke very little English if any. I have stayed at Decameron resorts at least 4 other times but will no be returning to this one or the other 2 in this area.

Dreams Huatulco: Total Disappointment
This was our third time staying at this location, total disappointment. Upon arrival the air conditioning in our room was not working, we submitted a service request and were total within an hour it would work, it didn’t. A second request on the next day, still not working. We requested another room and were told, no other rooms were available. We asked for a fan, none available. Temperature in our room was anywhere from 26 to 27.5. When talking to some of the other guests we were total the reso[... read more]rt had this issue for over 3 weeks. Pool chairs were scarce, in previous stays, you could ask and someone would bring out a pool chair. The food was good, not as good as our previous stays. Overall the resort could use some updating

Barcelo Maya Palace: Beautiful property!!
We had a fantastic stay at the Palace. Some of the best food we've ever had in Mexico, and the staff were supper friendly and accommodating. Jesus in the Caribe a la carte went above and beyond both nights we ate there. Our friend has severe food allergies and Jesus made sure he vetted the menu and made the kitchen aware.
Nice pools and beach area, the kid's zone was amazing! Kinda jealous of their play area at the pool. :D
The rooms are a little dated as far as decor but didn't spend much tim[... read more]e in it anyway, and the young lady who checked us in was a little rude, but other than that we'd totally stay there again.
They do need to do something about the pool/beach chair issue though! Some chairs were reserved for hours with no one using them! We personally watched 4 chairs with no one in them for 7 hours!.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Amazing Resort
It was our first time to Mexico, the resort was amazing. The foods was good and we really enjoyed our sit down meals, our chef Sandra made our experience at the Japanese restaurant in Colonial a memorable evening. The service at Sante Fae at the Tropical was great, our server Jorge always had a smile and made our evening. Charo our pool server at the Tropical always had a smile and there to take our drink orders when we needed something. Idahlia on the customer service desk in our area was s[... read more]o sweet and helped us with our reservations at the sit down meals.
There was so lots to do at the resorts, snorkeling off the beach by the Maya Palace with the sea turtles, catamaran rides, dolphin shows and swimming with the dolphins. Mini market, Maya Mall and Disco.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Good resort but very large/spread out
First of all, here is what we prefer in a resort.
We are beach babies, so a nice beach, adequate loungers and beach view is a must. As well as swimming in the ocean. Swimming, not wading (will get to that, LOL). Swim up room, and everything within a comfortable distance of our room. Lots of sun and friendly service. Otherwise, we are pretty adaptive...
On to the review!
Resort Staff:
Overall did not find them overly engaging/enthusiastic HOWEVER for the first time in my extensive travels,[... read more] noted that 2/3 of the guests were not tipping service, were cold towards the staff so I cannot blame them for not putting forth best effort. We managed to get to know a few of them and once we engaged/tipped they were wonderful. Hard to do that with the expanse of the resort and rotating staff...
I tip well in the room, the cleaning staff were excellent and complied with my note that I left requesting fridge be stocked with certain items daily.
Room:
We booked a swim up room (our preference), and due to a leak in the pool fell short of advertised expectations.
The water level was below the skimmers when we arrived, and continued to drop for about 3 days. Which turned it into a very loud waterfall as the return jets were above water. Not the tranquil pool advertised/expected. Management were well aware and did not add water to the pool (witnessed manger/maintenance/someone else inspecting it and taking pictures. Water level stopped dropping just under the night time accent lights/vacuum opening, attempted to explain to maintenance that was where the leak was, fell on deaf ears... Other swim ups looked fine, avoid building 63 for now...
Resort layout:
BIG complex, expect a lot of walking and lots of rides on the shuttle "trains".
Add ons:
Lots of add on charges. First time ever we had to pay to attend shows. Having said that, what we paid for was very very good!
Kids:
They have an extremely good good kids club, many activities we observed, they kept the kids engaged from early day until late evening.
Daytime in the lobby/pool areas until up till 9 PM they had the kids doing stuff like decorating heart shaped cookies on valentine's day (for mom and dad?) to dance shows at 8 pm. Our grand kids would have loved that (kids on a resort don't bother us unless they are totally obnoxious). We Very entertaining to watch in the mid evening. That was great to see, and I am sure they dropped into bed extremely exhausted to the joy of the parents... LOL!
Beach/ocean:
We were able to secure loungers in decent areas of the main beach every day. Beach area was very good, white sand (a little course but it was not uncomfortable) and lots of Palapas.
NEGATIVE for us, water in the ocean was at best waist deep out to the breakwater, we like to swim!
Positive: We bring our snorkel gear with us and around the end of the breakwater there was lots of colorful fish!
Grounds were filled with lots of tropical vegetation, Agoutis, Coatis, Iguanas, a few geckos & birds in abundance as well as a few racoons (?) running around to make us feel like back home.
I highly recommend downloading the resort app and doing a pre-check in. Which allows you to book Al La Carte restaurants ahead of time. Not that I ever saw the restaurants actually full, but you get your choices booked ahead of time.
Restaurants:
Found the menus very similar (?) for example they all had some kind of seafood item that was tweaked in a different way.
KEEP IN MIND THIS IS OUR CULINARY PREFERENCE TASTES
We could not book our first choice (Alux), so that one I won't comment on, lets just say that considering we tried to book it a week before our departure and it was was already full probably makes it a go-to.
BUFFET had lots of selection, but very repetitive, themes seemed limited. Actual Mexican cuisine was limited, repetitive and "Americanized".
***Best Mexican food we had was off site during an excursion at a local town restaurant.***
We had breakfasts at KATOK close to our villa, was a decent breakfast buffet, no complaints there.
Tikalito beach restaurant, no love on that one, went there for lunch and selection was limited...
Best choice was the Maiko. Unbelievable cuisine. Start to finish
Portofino, Just slightly below the Maiko.
Dolce Vita was running a close third behind Portofino.
Frutos Del Mar seafood restaurant was disappointing. No exceptional tastes beyond the appetizer. better seafood dishes elsewhere on the resort.
Tequila, total disappointment, more tex-mex than Mexican, selection not so great...

Decameron La Marina: Not a resort i would go back to
Decameron Marina review Feb 11 to 18 2024
We booked this vacation through SunWing.
Transport from airport to Resort: 14 people were transported by a van. The driver took the non toll road which is very windy with sharp drop offs and it was dark. The driver exceeded the speed limit, swerved around rough patches into the on coming lane with on coming traffic. At on point he put on his hoodie while driving. The passenger in the front with him advised he slow down but did not. There wer[... read more]e only two seats with seat belts and my seat had a broken back. The passenger behind me tried to hold up the seat.
Check in: We paid extra for ocean view rooms but when we checked in, we were told they would not be able to accommodate but we could try the next am for a room change. Two of the couples traveling with us had asked for one king bed but were give two doubles instead. Once we were in our rooms, we realized that all except a few rooms had ocean view and the others were ocean front. We paid extra, did the rest of the quests have to pay extra.
Rooms: We were told the resort is 4 years old but looked much older. Towels were thin, frayed on edges and some had holes. Some days we were only given one facecloth for two people. The rooms were clean and the air conditioning was good. The pillows were very hard, water was left daily in our rooms and if more was needed there was plenty at the front desk. The hotel is built in a U shape and the noise from the pool and bars was extremely loud. It started around 10 am and went till 10pm. Karaoke was done in the bar on the second floor nightly but could still hear noise till midnight most nights. Ear plugs were used and highly recommended if planning a vacation here. The bar had 2 open walls to the pool area allowing the noise to carry to the rooms.
Buffets: There was one main buffet open for all three meals and one snack bar that opened from around 11 am to 5 pm. You could always find something to eat if you could over look the fact that pigeons were present in both buffets and were seen often sitting on the serving counters eating off the plates of food put out with out covers The staff tried hard to scare them off. The main buffet had a theme every night. Two out of the 7 nights we were there it was Mexican night. WE went to the buffet around 7 pm and usually by the time we were done there was short lineups. They said reservations were able to be made and the first night we made one but no one checked to see to see if we had one. The staff in the buffet were great and helpful.
Ala carte Restaurants: We are unsure of how many there was supposed to be between Decameron’s three resorts that we were able to use. We found out that only one was open every night to serve the 3 resorts at the Los Cocos. Reservations in the description of the resorts said reservations were to be made the morning after arrival. On arrival were told that you needed to line up daily at 9am to make the reservation. Our facility which had around 160 rooms was only allowed 10 spots nightly at 8 or 8:30. We did find out that the person taking reservations at the Los Cocos resort was letting people book multiple days at one time. The 2 we were able to get were very good.
Activities: There were a few pool side activities and bikes to use. The road conditions around the hotel and the traffic were not conducive to riding.
Pool: There were two pools beside each other, one for the children. Due to the U shape of the hotel no sun every reaches the pool area. The pools were small and water cold. The loud noise in the area made it undesirable to sit by the Pool. We did have access to the pools at the Los Cocos and found one that was quiet and no one used.
The weather was not nice while we were there. One day it rained all day with heavy rains for a few hours with high winds. Because the buffets, bar, lobby etc are all open there was really no where to go to get out of the rain, wind and cold except your room.
Beach: allowed for long walks and easy walking. There was a shortage of beach chairs and if you did not geta chair before 9 am you would have to rent one from local vendors on the beach. There was a sign that said restricted access to the raised part of the beach but there were ++ people selling everything from food to trinkets on the beach and private vendors setting up tables and chairs.
Area around the resort: there was a market in the area on Monday that we went to and found interesting. The market on Thursday at La Penita was not worth going to. If booking at theses hotels understand you are in a rural small town. There are a lot of souvenir shops but all are basically the same. The streets and roads are rough to walk on. This is a hotel for people that just want to lay on the beach.
Would I recommend any of the Decameron resorts in Ricon---No. I think the description of the resort given by Sun Wing was not accurate.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Best Staff ever!!
It’s a beautiful resort. Not too big, not too small. Tons of options to sit back and relax. Didn’t feel crowded even at a full buffet. Lots of shade options as well as sun. The buffet food could have been a bit better but the restaurants amazing dinners made up for it.
But the staff.. I would return just for them! Pedro and Oscar are the most fun bartenders you could ask for!! I’d go back just to see them again!
Nobody is hounding you on the resort which was amazing. People come by and a[... read more]sk if you’d like your hair done or a massage but quietly dismiss themselves as soon as you say no thank you. Very kind people there.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Fantastic Family Vacation!
This was our first time to Mexico as well as one of the Barcelo Resorts. We are a family of 5 and always book 2 rooms. We've travelled a lot throughout the Caribbean and have stayed at many all-inclusives. This resort has something for everyone to enjoy. It's huge and you can use the services at the other sections too. Very easy to get around and the grounds are beautiful.
The ROOMS we had were not brand new but they were well maintained and very clean. Beds were comfortable and fridges were re[... read more]stocked daily.
We like to switch it up between the pool and the beach, we always found chairs but it's probably a good idea to get there early.
The FOOD was very good. The buffets had lots of variety and the service there was pleasant and quick. The a la cartes were really good too, the Japanese was our favorite. We didn't have any trouble booking these but I recommend being flexible with your times, there are a lot of people to accommodate.
We did one EXURSION, to see some of the Ruins followed by swimming in a cenote. We booked this through our West Jet Rep and it was well worth the price, including meals, transfers, gear and even though it said a half day, it was closer to a full day. Lots of fun and very interesting.
SNORKELLING from the beach is awesome. Our favorite part was finding the turtles! It's such a cool experience to swim with them. You can do this every day if you like. They are beautiful.
There's so much to do at this resort, all day and into the night. We had lots of fun and a fantastic week!

Dreams Huatulco: Huatulco is my new favourite place in Mexico
Just returned from dreams Huatulco what a beautiful side of Mexico. Safest place I have ever felt kind people who are proud and the cleanest city I have ever seen. Dreams Huatulco needs updating desperately however the staff and surroundings made up for all that. Spent every day on the beach ocean was so warm I never once used the pools (6) of them which were also gorgeous. Can't wait to return
