Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: great beach---always lots of chairs; great staff

this was my fifth visit and still found it most enjoyable. the theatre shows were amazing especially the water ballet. Valentine's Day was a great celebration. my son Dean Marett and his wife Cheryl were there twice and my older son Jay-his wife Jennifer and two children are going for a week in March.

Don Lino Hotel: Watch where you step

You will read other reviews that speak to the quaintness and friendliness of the resort and the staffs that work at Don Lino. All of this is true. This is not a sour grapes review, I had a fine a vacation at the Don Lino. However, there are four things I think are worth high lighting that may be of benefit to you in deciding to choose a vacation at Don Lino: 1. The buffet food is the same day after day, a very limited selection and frequently the grill selection is very poorly prepared - dry, ov [... read more]ercooked, over seasoned with salt etc. We saw lettuce once in 14 days. I know Cuba food is notorious, but seriously this buffet was not ok. 2. Farm animals do roam the property, quaint - yes, sanitary - no. A welcome horse patty in front of the room and yes I did step in it, is not ok. The one large grass area in which you can do activities is frequently a grazing area for pigs and horses. 3. Tips - with a tip I was poured the 5 year old dark rum. With no tip , I heard the bartender tell a student to pour me the low quality Santera rum. Bartenders spend a great deal of time promoting their own side businesses, frequently while clients at the bar wait for service. Don't leave a tip for the maid - you get no new towels and a very basic clean. Leave a tip, get fancy towel art and new towels and a premium clean. There is a bartender at the Don Lino who is wealthier then most of the clients who attend this resort. Please tip, but notice that the maids and bartenders are living a very good life relative to their nieghbours. Management at the Don Lino needs to wind in the bartender greed and set a cleaning standard for the maids despite the tip on the pillow or not. 4. Animation staff - we experienced 6 consecutive days of bad weather, several attempts to have the animation team do something to entertain the clients fell on deaf ears. Kudos to them for an impromptu super bowl party and the Cuban themed afternoon party. Generally, however, they spend all of their time in their little room chatting or looking on their phones. There is no water sports, pool aqua size ( we had guests organizing their own). Bingo is one time a week with one game. Expect to be on your own when it comes to entertainment. Never saw Spanish lessons, saw dance once, etc. There is a list of activities by day that is never followed. We tried to do activities at the set time and no staff in sight or the event was cancelled? This is an easy fix - management sets a standard and then enforces it, simple. This was my second time to Don Lino and yes despite the comments above I will likely go back, but it is because of the people in the nieghbouring area and the lovely natural beauty that surrounds the Don Lino. If your looking for a resort based vacation I would not recommend the Don Lino.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Club Amigo is my home away from home

I have visit this resort 5 times since 2014, its been the only resort I have been to in Cuba. The staff is amazing there, so many remember your name, when they see you walk in, they stop what they are doing and come over to give you a hug and see how you are doing. Since I traveled there with my mother who needs a walker to get around, the management knows our needs and they make sure we have a great visit. Some rooms are out dated but we do not go there for the rooms,but always get a good night [... read more] sleep. This resort has many daily/nightly activities for all ages. This resort is feet away from a beautiful beach where I spend alot of time swimming, suntanning and just strolling the shore. The food is good and always a good selection to pick from. This resort is only a 3 star but you need to keep an open mind and remember its Cuba, you cannot compare it to home in Canada. I have made many friends with the Cubans and will always visit Club Amigo in my future.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: well located resort

Been going there five times already,and would go back.stayed at the tropical section but prefer the seaview,Nice little flea market next door,it's a big resort but once you get to know your way around you'll like it. nice beach,pool bar..

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: OK for 3 Star

Had to be moved 3 times due to serious problems until we upgraded and got a decent room. We were told the upgrade would cost us nothing and when we went to check out they charged us an extra $240 pesos and add 40% to get Cdn equal in dollars

Don Lino Hotel: Newest Convert will be a many time repeat customer

It was the size (96 rooms), quiet (on its own in the country side) and ocean front setting that attracted my husband and me to this resort. Having read many reviews on TripAdvisor I felt confident the Villa Don Lino would suit us. And it did! We had one of the old rooms, 50 feet from the shoreline. The food, although not an unnecessary over abundance of choices, was well prepared and tasty. The service we received in the dining hall and throughout the resort was genuinely friendly and helpful. O [... read more]ur room and bed was comfortable, other than when a smell of sewer gas came up the floor vent. We fixed this right away by placing a plastic sandwich bag between the vent and its cover. Slept so well due to the lullaby of the waves. Ate well, with no "regrets". And enjoyed the horses, bikes, buggies and antique car ride to sight see, I have never enjoyed a vacation more! Regarding the booking process, Trip Central made it simple with their on line booking process, and polite replies when I phoned to ask a silly question. Our e-documents (tickets) arrived well before our flight. Thanks TC. The flights with Sunwing: On the way down the plane was one of their new fleet, lots of leg room and a "new car" feeling. Great cabin crew. On the way home the plane was an unmarked generic with slightly cramped seating and a crew (excepting the cheery audible Captain) seemed tired and eager to just get home. Smooth check ins, customs, etc. both ways.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Big resort

This hotel is part of Gaviota group so it pass to the Cubain. Staff was frustrated cause tourist does not tips anymore. No toilet seat in lobbies washrooms. Massage was great. Beach wanderfull. Very big resort, lots of walking and stairs. Golf carts available to bring you to different place in the resort. Rooms are clean. Fifth times in Cuba. First times in a 4 1/2 star but felt like a 4. Food in the buffet always the same.

room very clean, beach to smal but clean,foob very good,lot frouit,staf polite and serviable,quit place,to much mosquitos but wit a lot a shower 4 days, before and 2 in the vacation its normal ,the restaurant a la carte its perfect for my freinds because the reservation at 6.30 a lot a food but mine a 8.30 no food .sory for my sentence english is not my first language

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Very nice stay

The resort was clean and well maintained. The staff were the most pleasant I had ever met. The first time I felt I tipped because of good service and not just to get good service. Beds were so-so as are all beds in Cuba I've encountered so far. Beach was great. Food was good. Buffet needs to be redesigned so it is not so clogged around the food areas.

Sol Turquesa Beach: good resort

Cleanest rooms, good beach, food was OK we never went hungry. We had terrific weather from the 2nd of Feb to 9th. My wife had quite a few bug bites whatever they were, but we brought an arsenal knowing that would be the case.

food as expected for cuba ,bland and same food every day at buffet .Service good and beaches nice! room clean but needs updating too many stairs beds are hard as rock overall for price its what to expect better than other spots

The Resort was Clean, Well Groomed. The Cuban People are Very Freindly with Smiles every day. The Buffet Food was Good but the same Dishes Every day.. Ours Rooms are Cleaned Daily But Late in the day.. Beds mattress "NEED" to Be RE-PLACED :(.. Beach had Shade trees with 2 beach bars & lunches at each end of beach.. 2 Pools - big pool near front Reception with swim up bar and Entertainment daily.. Brisas Covarrubias: Beautiful Beaches

The hotel is average if you book here make sure you upgrade to VIP with an ocean view room, beautiful beaches, friendly staff, if you are looking for a vacation with not much to do this is the the place great place to relax and unwind

Sol Turquesa Beach: Memories Holguin

the rooms were amazing, the pool and beach were great, buffet not alot of options, food was always cold unless you had them grill it, i even saw them put new food out when running too make sure i got it hot, but it was stone cold from the kitchen. Food also ran out alot especially the dessert table and they always took too long to refill it, ice cream was always melted they don't have a proper freezer for it. The bars were good but always running out of things so they couldn't make your favorite [... read more] drinks, also didn't make the drinks properly as a pina coloda supposed to be served frozen, it never was. Banking was also a big issue, they say they open at 7:30am, we got there at 7:35 to change money into pesos, we stood outside for over half an hour, while the teller was doing some paperwork, she saw we were waiting, and still didn't open the doors, she didn't open til 8:15am. I thought this was a one time thing our friends she did the same thing the very next day, they waited over half an hour before she opened the door, and then said she had no pesos to give. How do we give tips to waiters and people who clean our room when their own bank won't give any pesos, How does a bank not have pesos for tourists? Ridicioulous!!!

Playa Costa Verde: Great resort!

I visited this resort for 4 days with my 14 year old son. The hotel and grounds are kept clean. We didn't have hot water in our shower when we arrived, however, this was quickly fixed by the maintenance staff. The food was okay, not gourmet, but we weren't in danger of starving to death. There is a dress code at the a la carte restaurants, and it would have been nice to know ahead of time that pants and shoes were the requirement. My son was wearing nice golf shorts and a golf shirt, but they wo [... read more]uldn't allow him to eat at the Japanese restaurant. Meanwhile, there were slobs wearing jeans and running shoes in there, and that was considered acceptable?! That would be my only complaint about this resort. We spent our days at the beach, which was beautiful. The snorkelling was amazing, the guys who run the water sports booth are fun and helpful. I highly recommend going out on the catamaran with Roger and/or Miguel (we went with each of them a couple of times)...so much fun. The fitness facility has a decent amount of equipment available, better than I've seen in many high end resorts. The staff were all polite and helpful, and hardworking. A big shout out to Jesus at the ice cream stand, which we visited each afternoon. Overall, a great, quick getaway, and I'll be returning with my other son in March.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Could be improved

Very large resort with different sections, some of which really need updating. I was very disappointed not to be able to enjoy a Mojito all week due to lack of limes and mint. Come on folks! I've been to Cuba 4 times and to other 3 * resorts, but I found the food here very monotonous. On the upside, the beach is beautiful and my room was very clean. Defiantly get a bungalow or villa room if you plan on going here. Nice to have a daily market close by as well.

Playa Pesquero: Wonderful family trip

- very polite staff - Very clean rooms - Great food - Nice beach - Good restaurants - Clean grounds - Lots of entertainment for kids - Many food options - Would recommend to friends and family - Would definitely come back

Sol Turquesa Beach: A unique resort for active people

Our trip was in Jan 2016 trying to avoid a week of cold weather in Canada, unfortunately the weather in Holguin was a little bit cold and rainy accept for two days, being positive; we did not get burned by the sun but still got the tan The staff was amazing and they were trying their best to accommodate us and reduce the effect of weather which has nothing to do with the resort. Plan in advance what you will do every day you will be fine The food was amazing and well presented despite some line waiting but it was worth it unless you go to the restaurant very hungry and that is your fault, the staff was very friendly even if you do not tip them just treat them with respect with nice words; they will go a mile to serve you and you can make a difference in solving any issue by talking to the management in a positive attitude... Try to avoid the Sand fleece it is worth than mosquitos they get you as high as your knee unless you are laying down on the sand or on a chair and you do not feel their bite until you go to bed, it is very itchy for 3 to 5 days, no matter what you spray your self with all kind of insect repellent they still bite you without your permission The best remedy is alcohol and smudge it with green papaya If you like to go around by your self to enjoy the nature and learn about the locals try to rent a scooter for a day for $30 CUC do not take Canadian bills just US and more than you need to avoid a lot of waiting If you like to enjoy your vacation you have to think positive. Finally, regarding management roll in making this resort an excellent place to go to is: efficiency there is a room for improvement and like to thank the management for trying their best.

Don Lino Hotel: Lovely little get away!

This small resort is working hard to provide for every visitor need. There is a reason so many visitors return over and over. It could be the relaxing atmosphere, or the great beach, it might be the local folks in the area who welcome tourists, for me it was the snorkeling.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Had a great time

The hotel rooms need an upgrade. Water leaked from the ceiling on the way to the washrooms by the reception area. Bar service in the lobby is good and timely. Food was good, delicious fish, great service if you tip.
