Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: You pay for what you get!
We chose the cheapest resort for a 4 day vacation. The beach was amazing as well as the staff however, some improvements should be implemented. For example, about half way through the trip we had cockroaches in our room, there were 3 of us in a room and I’m pretty sure we all killed at least 1. We noticed other people in our bungalow (4) complaining and getting moved. The food is whatever, pretty same across Cuba definitely bring your own condiments to survive. Overall, decent getaway!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Not great
Worst resort. Went 7 days without a toilet and my friend and I were both sick for the last 4 days. Maid didn’t give clean towels or make bed. Don’t drink water... not even water bottles they fill them with water and reseal them. Could go on and on. Do not go here if you want to have an enjoyable holiday.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Not what it used to be..
Our air conditioner in room didn't work, resort was over capacity, buffet lines were ridiculous long. Diamond club upgrade and return clients actually felt like a downgrade. We were very disappointed with this visit and ended up transferring to a different resort. Beach was nice, grounds were clean.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Memories were made.
I’ll start by saying our travel agent messed up. She marked that we were linked with our friends on our reservation but it wasn’t noted on our friends reservation so the hotel didn’t know who it was we were supposed to be linked with. As a result we ended up in separate buildings and our dinner reservations didn’t line up with each other. We ended with different times for our New Years Dinner as well.
About the hotel though it has beautiful beaches, clean modern looking buildings altho[... read more]ugh there are small beds in the rooms unless you get a king. Some rooms smell a bit musty. Public ladies washrooms often ran out of toilet paper daily. A la carte restaurants were good. The snack bar often ran out of burgers, buns, even beer at one time.
Staff is friendly providing excellent entertainment top quality choreography and dancing. We paid for diamond club but our fridge wasn’t always stocked as they ran out of pop for 2 days for the fridge and beer one day. Beach Towels couldn’t be changed daily. Overall though it was a really good vacation. The size of the resort is perfect, and the staff was accommodating.

Melia Costa Rey: Excellent resort!
It was our first visit to Cuba and we certainly lucked out choosing this resort. The beach was perfect and the service excellent. The lobby was large and spacious with a 24/7 bar that was kind of the hub of activity throughout the week. And there was plenty of activity both in the lobby area as well as the pool area. The one thing we were expecting to be subpar was the food given other reviews we'd seen of Cuba, but it wasn't bad at all. The buffet was a little "samey" after a few days, but they[... read more] had pre-booked us for the last three evenings in the a la carte restaurants and the food in those was very good! Our room overlooked a lagoon (facing away from the ocean), which meant our view wasn't spectacular, but it was very private and quiet. I don't think I've ever been as relaxed as I was during our week here.
We will most certainly be back!

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Fantastic!!
Spent Dec 1-15th at this resort and it was wonderful! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of check-in. If they know a full bus load is arriving they should be prepared with more than two people. They could possibly hand out the papers you need to fill out while on the bus to help a little bit - still would need more people at reception though like I noticed at other resorts.
We are also given the same room as another couple after about an hour and a half wait. It was quickl[... read more]y fixed and from then on it was great! One saving grace was that the bar served us drinks while we waited without having the resort bracelet on yet.
Never saw any dirty bathrooms or the dirty dishes like some of the reviews read. If you travel you learn that a lot of people are so uptight they think 1 piece of toilet paper on the floor makes a resort trash. Or they think they are high and mighty that one dirty plate makes a resort horrible. These people will always be at any resort and you just need to look past these people and enjoy what's around you!!
Yes, the rooms are dated but they have what you need! I had emailed the resort requesting an ocean view as I have never had one in my travels yet. They accommodated and every day I was amazed at our view and that made up for anything (like fighting the patio door to close all the time) that went wrong. Our shower was also plugged, I never did complain though as I thought perhaps it was normal. But it was fixed after housekeeping probably saw it. Housekeeping was great as well as water/pop in the fridge was everyday for us. We did actually have a two day miss on the water so that evening we just went to the front desk to let them know. Water was sent to our room right away.
The first 3 days were perfect weather, making the beach absolutely beautiful, no seaweed. With the cloudier days the seaweed does roll in as well as the water is not the clearest. Does not stop you from having a great beach day! Always lounge chairs available, Always shade huts available as well. Never had any troubles with towel exchange. The second week was when my son and I really noticed mosquito bites and noseeums or sand flea bites. Some other people we had arrived with noticed this as well. Aloe seemed to relieve the itching for a bit but the intensity of the itch is soooo different then Canadian mosquito bites!! So that was the only reason I was looking forward to going home was to not to get bit anymore!!
Great variety of food and no troubles with hot dishes, they were hot! All the chefs at the fresh stations are wonderful! Food was replaced constantly, they were on top of it!
Entertainment was good. It was really nice that in the second week we were there the shows weren't repeated! Different the whole two weeks. Even had a show done in the pool which was beautiful!
I would really like to mention this detail if you are planning on doing excursions with the speedboat or catamaran. A detail I wish I had known - the snorkeling mask and snorkels are basic and very used ones! If you have your own, bring them!!! We did the catamaran and its hit and miss if the mask works as well as there really wasn’t enough!! We made it work and enjoyed the fish, we took crackers with us and the fish literally eat from your hand in one of the spots they take you.
When it came time to do our speedboat excursion we brought our own masks/snorkels. Glad we did as it was the same old used masks/snorkels. Also if you bring snorkels, swim around the pier, all the fish are there!! bring crackers or banana to feed them
Take a walk all down the beach. Different parts of the ocean along the walk are amazing!
We had our 9 year old try kitesurfing and would highly recommend that if you have a chance! Andre was fabulous with our son, the whole staff was great!
We took the double decker bus to the market. Slightly cheaper for items but not enough to worry about prices. What's offered on the resort is plenty. We also took the bus to Playa Pillar which is a stunning beach! They do have lounge chairs but you do have to pay to use them.
All in all I would absolutely highly recommend this resort if you want a nice relaxing vacation with almost no worries!!!! Two weeks is perfect to enjoy it all!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice beach and pools but the rest was horrible
The resort is big and has decent size rooms, a beautiful beach and pools. Unfortunately, the week we went it was booked to capacity and they could not handle it. We all got sick as did most of the resort. They ran out of everything every day: towels, drinks, no bread, pizza or flour for 4 days. Service was slow, inconsistent.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Amazing beach - Good resort - Ok buffet!
Amazing beach - probably the most beautiful beach in Cuba! Lots of lounge chairs.
Great pools - Lots of lounge chairs.
Good resort - could use updating, i.e. furniture, painting, grounds well maintained.
Ok buffet - huge line-ups for pasta and meat of the day, i.e. chicken, beef. Don't understand why they don't set-up a bit differently to accommodate patrons.
As for the rest, typical Cuba - friendly and helpful staff.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Awesome trip
We really enjoyed ourselves, read all the reviews, went prepared for all the bad things and encountered none of them! Beach was amazing, staff was friendly, food was good (go to the grilling stations), beer was good, room was clean.
Actually I have two complaints, no door on the bathroom...really? A little privacy is nice, I would take a shower curtain and a extending bar next time. Second complaint is with people complaining...what do you expect in Cuba...5 Star Canadian resort? If you’r[... read more]e not happy keep it to yourself, don’t constantly complain to anyone and everyone!

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Lovely Resort
Overall the resort is beautiful. Service is lacking and they are not organized. Waiting in line for towels and restaurant bookings is not the way you want to spend your vacation. The staff at the beach bar were the best we have ever had!!
The beach and water were amazing and one of the reasons we go to Cuba.
Food was average for Cuba. We went to the lobster shack beside the hotel for a great meal for $18C each.
Nightlife was a bit disappointing for a new hotel. Shows were just ok.
We ha[... read more]d an ocean view room that was worth the upgrading. The views were amazing. The room is nice and modern.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Not Bad or Spectacular, Average
We’ve never been to Cuba, and the country is lovely, the beaches are beautiful, and everyone is very friendly and smiling.
The resort, however, has a few issues. It’s too big, I think, and they obviously weren’t ready for it to be full. There are too few staff at the buffet so the lines are long, and the ready food is where the lineup is for freshly cooked items, so it’sa mess. We got towels, but many people didn’t, and that’s kind of important at a beach resort.
We went on 2 exc[... read more]ursions, both run very efficiently. The 2 city tour was the best, really showed us a lot of the culture, poverty, unfortunately, but was very interesting.
One tip-bring cash! I couldn’t get money at the bank at all, had to go to another resort that had a bank onsite, which I heard about after trying the bank in the city, with nothing to show for it. A nice employee took me to the resort with the bank in his car, so it felt safe to do so, since he let others know what he was doing and wire his name badge.
Souvenirs at Moron we’re cool by the carriage ride, and at the airport as well. Not much available on resort, but I still managed to get s couple of things.
A great relaxing trip, I’d recommend Cuba and Cayo Guillermo, but another resort.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful beach!
Please pick up your plastic cups BEFORE they blow into the OCEAN!!!
The resort was huge so it was hard to find people if prior plans were not made. All through Cuba there is limited places WiFi is available. At this resort WiFi really ONLY works in the pool and in the lobby.
The food was average and at times they did not have food in the only 24 hour snack bar. I recommend bringing snacks!!!
The entertainment was good.
There was dancing of some kind each night for the guests.
The ro[... read more]oms were clean.
There are lots of lounge chairs at the pool and on the beach.
The best part was the beach and the water.
I will go again.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Cuban Resort
The beach and entertainment were the best thing about this place. Rooms and food were all above expectations. Only issue was the water pressure from shower, not enough towels and there was a smell in one of the buffets. Great resort overall.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Grand Muthu-Needs a lot of improvements!
Let me start with the 5 star this resort claims to be. In my opinion in order for a resort to claim 5 stars it really has to be the best ! This one however missed the mark. Everything that could have gone wrong in my one week did! This particular week happened to be its busiest since it opened less than a year ago. It was very unprepared to meet the demands of so many guests! Beach towels were always an issue -I arrived Sunday and didn’t get mine until Wednesday simply because they didn’t h[... read more]ave enough. Although one is aware of the food in Cuba it still isn’t an excuse for the inconsistencies of one day trays always being filled and another where they would be empty for far too long before being replenished! Not to mention the lineups! Calling reception to get something like fresh towels or toilet paper to your room isn’t happening unless you go to customer relations and complain how long you’ve been waiting and finally the girl at the desk just gets it for you. Restaurant reservations were also a major issue. Even though ours were made 2 days before, it wasn’t until we went to confirm the day of that we were told there just wasn’t enough room at the restaurant of our choice and only happened to get into another of the restaurants simply because somebody cancelled. By luck we did get into the other restaurant but nothing special!
The staff and workers were very friendly and accommodating. They really tried to make it a positive experience. However these issues and I’m sure many more that other guests experienced really need to be dealt with at the managerial level. In order to claim a five star rating they really need to deal with the many problems that unfortunately plague this resort. So if you’re planning to visit this resort all I can say is Vacationer be aware and be prepared!

Melia Costa Rey: Relaxing in the sun
Beautiful beach! This is a great all inclusive choice the entertainment team is great. The food is quite good with the stations cooking fresh fish or meat being worth the wait. Typically you would wait 5 to 10 minutes for fresh cooked meat or fish. There is no splash pad or water playground but there are shallow pools for the kids. My two under seven were happy to splash around the pools. First time to Cuba will likely be back. Most of the amenities are in decent shape. The public restrooms ne[... read more]ed checking more often. Running out of toilet paper should not happen. May have been a one off. The resort is in good condition with some areas showing some wear. It is modern looking hotel. Recommend a visit.

Hotel Playa Coco: Good Value Still
This was the fifth consecutive year that I visited Hotel Playa Coco in December, as I was there from December 2 > December 16, 2018.
Overall, I would give it a favorable rating, although there are a few negative comments that I would make. Firstly, there are a lot of new staff members. The woman whom I previously dealt with in Public Relations is no longer there: hence my room request was not granted. Naturally, I was not too happy about such. Secondly, the gentleman who was hired in 2014 to [... read more]be Manager of Food Services, is no longer there: the quality of food has declined somewhat, although it is still pretty good by Cuban standards.
None of the bars had Cuban beer, and were serving Heineken instead. No one could explain why, but they did get some Buccanero draft beer in on December 15th. No Cristal, however.
My room [2201] turned out to be very decent: lots of water pressure and warm water, and good AC. The maid, Yerina, was excellent.
Most of the buildings have been renovated, and have new, quality mattresses, but the pillows are still of poor quality.
The beach is still lovely, although the west end is rocky in spots, and there was a shortage of chairs at times. The two pools were kept fairly clean, but more lounge chairs are needed.
Overall the food is pretty good: there is a new lunch restaurant by the beach. One side is a buffet, and the other serves pizza only. The servers were quite good, especially Yanelis and Emir.
One annoying feature is the overly loud, repetitive music by the main pool and on the beach. You could hear the same from the resort nearby [Memories Caribe]. Why this practice continues, totally baffles me.
For $1165, for 14 full days, the excursion was certainly good value. The Air Transat airbus was very spacious and comfortable, with free movies and TV programs, on your own personal screen.
I'm quite happy to recommend Hotel Playa Coco, once again.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Great Hotel!
This was a great resort, that was very clean and staff were friendly and wholesome. However, with the amount of people the hotel can hold, it was very understaffed. All other aspects were great though!
