Hotel Camino del Mar: Great value
The beach, food, and staff we're awesome. The rooms were in need of some TLC, but overall it was a great vacation and we'd go back. Walking distance to other resorts. But the beach was the best we've ever seen. Don't miss the sunrise at the beach.

Melia Las Americas: Lovely resort
We had a great week at this resort.
We found the food and service to be good with plenty of choices at the buffet. The restaurants had to be booked and at times it was difficult to get a reservation for the time we liked. However, it was not a big deal for us.
We stayed in a bungalow with an updated bathroom which was nice. The curtains, bedding and towels have seen better days but believe they're getting around to renovating.
Overall, I'd say this resort is a good choice for an adu[... read more]lts only vacation with golf course within waking distance.

Paradisus Varadero: Family orientated peaceful relaxing resort
First of all, I want to send a big thank you to Deborah O at trip central.ca square one location. She was very helpful with my last minute getaway. My daughter had a blast with the activities available for the kiddies. Sadly the food was a bit of a letdown, but the grill at the beach was the spot for me. They did book a la carte each night we were there but the sun burnt my kid out that we couldn't make the time of reservation. Friendly staff they felt like family.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Way to Go
The physical infrastructure is very nice; they are already renovating the buildings; having the Transat rep on site helped save us a prebooked tour; was blown away by the professional entertainment every night; genuinely friendly and accommodating staff;no issues till very last day; omelette bar was serving heavily cracked eggs with chicken excrement and blood on many eggs; this is a Public Health violation; cracked eggs and raw chicken are automatically considered to be contaminated with Salmon[... read more]ella bacteria; it can kill immunocompromised people in infants and seniors and make you very ill; Salmonella typhi is Typhoid Fever; one of many strains of this bacterium; I told the chef behind the counter but he didn't speak English; also advised the resort manager on duty before we left for the airport; will be following up with Public Health Agency; I am a Public Health Inspector/Supervisor with 40 years experience in Toronto/Durham Region.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Not bad
I hated the bad reviews that reuined my first day at the hotel, so I decided to review it myself
Please when you come to cuba you should have an expectations
Cuba is cuba
For the hotel, it was okay, not really four stars but still good
The only real bad thing was the food quality and quantity
The beach is five stars
The bed sheets and pillow cases were not clean on the first day but after i left a tip and put them on the ground they got changed
Most of the workers were nice, with a sm[... read more]ile tip or not
The hotel set up is not bad, i enjoyed it
The washroom in my room was renovated and have hot water
I had missing towe for couple of days until I complained
Havana’s trip was amazing
Sea tour was okay
Catamaran was not really free, u have to pay to go deep and snorkle and wasnt cheap 20 per person which is too much for all inclusive
I would come back if the food gets better
Forgot to mention this is my 3rd trip to the area, so i know the expectations

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Some good - some bad
The resort is undergoing a lot of construction - which is good.
But there were things that were not good and had nothing to do with construction.
Usually we always had to call and ask for more water - they are supposed to deliver water everyday - but
that did not happen.
This also happened with the other beverages as well..
There needs to be more shade available around the pool - there is nothing at all.
The food was pretty good - but the same every day.
I would like to have face cloths i[... read more]n the rooms.

Melia Cayo Coco: Comfortable, cozy and clean with a dash of spectacular!
At first glance, the Melia Cayo Coco looked like a hotel that is very well cared for. The grounds are beautifully manicured, the washrooms in the lobby are pristine.
The food in the main buffet as well as in all the à la carte restaurants was quite good (especially the fresh Basa on the grill in the buffet and the Blue fish dish in the International).
All the shows are top quality and because this resort is adult only; there are pre-shows around 8 pm that showcase many talented musicians[... read more] of all music genres Jazz, rock and roll, opera, Cuban flavor and classical. This is a classy resort, no excessive or loud music all day long, no beer-chugging or get drunk at the swim-up pool bar. By 10h30 or 11h00pm the older crowd is dispersed and off to bed. So the disco that starts around 11h00 is a no show for many people. If you want to continue partying, many younger adults 18+ go to the disco at the caves off resort.
As part of the Melia experience, there were services offered and activities available to keep you as busy as you wished to be. You could take a peddle bike free of charge for an hour or two and visit the market close by or tour the other sister hotels nearby. You could hop on a double-decker bus for a small fee for the day and tour the neighboring hotels and /or Pilar beach. You could take a little train ride or walk to the small market. There is also a sport facility where you can try archery, a tennis lesson, bocce, Ping-Pong or fuse ball. The animation team worked hard to ensure that your experience at the Melia was an enjoyable one. As we tried rum tasting at the pool, the bar tender showed the crowd how to mix the most popular drinks in Cuba using their rum.
At the beautiful white sand beach with aqua blue waters, you can relax under the many palapos reserved for Melia guests or if you are feeling adventurist, you can reserve a ride on a small catamaran at the aquatic center at the Sol hotel next door (sister hotel) or go on a snorkeling excursion for 15 cucs to a small coral reef in front of the hotel.
Most importantly, we return year after year to Cuba (mostly Cayo Coco) because of the friendly nature of Cubans, for the lively rhythmic music, for the pristine beaches and most of all because Cuba is as authentic as it gets. There are no MacDonalds or other big major restaurant chains, no annoying salesperson trying to sell you timeshares at there resort, no excessive motorized watercrafts at the beach. Cuba is like going to your second home (cottage) for a short summer vacation.

Melia Jardines del Rey: I was thrilled
The facility is top notch beautiful with large spacious bedrooms. The grounds well kept and facilities beautiful. You can see the damage to trees and buildings, that they are still recovering from the hurricane, but they are really staying on top of things. The Entertainment was amazing, the Dance Troop that performed in the evening was the best I've seen in the last 10 years. The facilities, rooms, public areas are clean. And even though a public bathroom may have had a broken toilet, they[... read more] fixed these things in a timely fashion. I applaud the work they did to keep things clean...even with the tourists who showed no respect to the people and facilities by leaving things lying around, left garbage, and made unnecessary messes. Please people there are garbage cans everywhere, so pick up, clean up. Kudos to Lenny's Bar and Grill, best Lobster and Shrimp ever.
The food is lacking in comparison to years previously, but you never go hungry.
But you have to remember, the hurricane destroyed trees and plants. Gardens on the resorts were destroyed, and animals killed. All in All, I Love Cuba, its Authentic .... no walmarts, no pizza pizza, and no subway's .... and that is refreshing. Also I always feel safe in Cuba. The people are very kind and loving.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Beach, Staff, Views: A+
We love Cuba for its gorgeous scenery, amazing people, first-class service and unbeatable value. This resort did not disappoint in these factors. In terms of food, I'd say the variety of choices in the buffet was poor in comparison to other parts of Cuba we've been. However, overall we found we really enjoyed the food itself: Specifically our entire meal at the Cuban restaurant, the fresh-made-to-order buffet options, and the grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. The resort facilities are in decen[... read more]t shape and very clean. They will be renovating the resort over the summer and it will be beautiful I'm sure. There is not a bad view from anywhere on the resort. I liked how you can view the beach and resort action even from the lobby. The view from our room of the huge beach and turquoise water was unbelievable. Pool was clean and swimup bar was a great time. Activities around the pool were fun. The staff at the resort are amazing--we had 5-star service from everyone we encountered. Bar staff are great, activity team fun but not in your face, waiters super personable, lobby staff, gardeners, maids, etc...all friendly, helpful and kind people. We had a great time and met many amazing fellow travellers as well. And finally: the beach! Incredible. Long, gorgeous, and worth every penny. Loved our trip and thought it was an excellent value.

Sol Cayo Coco: Great Holiday
The grounds were well kept and gardeners working on them constantly.
Rooms were well cleaned and comfortable, but room furnishings could be upgraded, mattresses comfortable.
Food was good, lots of choices. Lack of greens after a few days. Coffee excellent and service very good with friendly staff..
Beaches are beautiful and pristine.
We will be returning for our 4th visit and would recommend to friends.

Sol Varadero Beach: Nice Resort
The resort is starting to show it’s age but they are doing renovations. That being said the resort is clean and the staff is very friendly. The beaches are fantastic, lots of lounge chairs on the beach. We have been going to this resort for a number of years and love the people there, our only dislike is the that the food although good, it’s not hot, warm at best.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Holiday from hell!!!!!
March 16th, 2018: Arrived late and exhausted, reception staff could not find us in system and moved on to other people. We were the last people to be processed in our arrival group.
24 hr. access to food and drinks - fresh bun, old ham (looked like had been left out for a while) and slice of cheese Yuk!
Day 1: lunch good, beach awesome. Dinner 6:30 pm, by 9 pm not feeling good. Went to room and slept
Day 2: had buffet breakfast, started vomiting after I returned to my room, had severe abdomi[... read more]nal pain. By afternoon, condition worsened. Sorry graphic detail here. While I was in my room, I had to run to the bathroom, but; did not make it. Diarrhea and blood trail splashed from my bed to toilet. When my friend came in the room she went for a doctor and someone to clean the floor. I was bleeding out my rectum and in pain, intestines very tender and swollen, belly looked like beach ball. Told my medical staff, not sure if she was a Dr. or a nurse; my condition likely from the sun. Several attempts were made to give me IV. At one point IV fluid built up under my skin until I said my arm hurt and then it was removed. The area was raised up and then bruised badly afterwards. My Arms had bruises from 6 IV attempts. Medical person told me I was fucked. I was given charcoal tablets, antibiotic and medication for bacteria in intestines, also anti-nausea medication, a needle in my bum (not sure what for as English Spanish communication challenges) and electrolyte packets for my water.
Day 3: I was asked to check in with the Dr. I stopped by the Air Transat rep as my friend was meeting with him to cancel a trip. He gave me such a look - not pleasant when I mentioned I might have had food poisoning, too sick to discuss. I went to my room. Later was informed that hotel paying my medical bill and that my friend was required to sign off for us not to pursue anything! I spent my time in my room, mostly sleeping or on the toilet during my vacation. I did not eat anything other than a piece of bread, a tiny cinnamon bun and a few bites of plain potato. At one point in my room, I called the desk to say I was sick and asked if I could get some food. I wanted something I might be able to keep down, told I had to go to the restaurant. That night horrible, so noisy!! Practice at band shell for a show and then the show and why loud music after the show is a mystery!
Day 4: Laid at VIP lounge until plane ready to board. We paid for VIP. Went purchased VIP passes before I got sick. Thank goodness.
If you go, hope you like loud nights, eat safe foods and be prepared to fend for yourself because the hotel is mostly concerned with covering its ass. Staff will not go out of their way to be helpful, they do not communicate with each other or they just do not give a damn!
I went to the medical clinic where my Dr. `s office is. Told most likely got food poisoning.
My friend and I did not have a vacation. It was a survival test.
Really administration staff should have arranged for someone to check in with us to see if we needed anything.
We should be reimbursed for our trip plus compensation for pain and suffering! Still recovering at home in Canada as of March 26th, 2018.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Fantastic Resort!
This was our second time staying at the Melia Jardines del Rey! I think the resort is one of the best ones in Cayo Coco, The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, the service was amazing! the food was good, the beach is perfect, you can walk out for a distance and sit on the sand bars, its mostly calm waters, and the beach is clean. Melia Cayo Coco: Definitely a place to return to
Wonderful resort. Good service and clean surroundings. Even after the damage done in the hurricane last November the resort had been returned to a beautiful location. Beach was clean and there were plenty of lounges so it wasn’t hard to get a chair every day.
A la carte restaurants were good and staff throughout the resort were helpful and friendly.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful Beach! Decent everything else
This resort is overall, good. We did not find it spectacular, but everything was good.
Arrival was smooth. The resort is about 15 minutes from the airport. At check-in there is a meeting to explain some things and you are given your room key and towel card. They do not always have pool towels, so bringing your own just in case is a good idea. They have the golf carts to take you to your room. Our room was in block 9 on the third floor. It was a good location. The room was clean and the fridg[... read more]e was stocked daily. Our fridge was leaking the first day, but it was fixed shortly after we reported it.
The resort itself is well kept. Certain areas seem to get more attention than others. It was not as huge as I was expecting, but the ground can be pretty uneven in spots and there is a decent amount of walking. They have carts that go around often if you need a lift. Just beside the resort is a little craft market that was fun to check out. There's bowling, disco, and a restaurant there too.
The beach is spectacular! Definite highlight. It was gorgeous and usually calm. Nice for a swim. If you do not go early, all the chairs will be taken but if you try again after lunch some free up. There's a bar and a restaurant on the beach. The lunch buffet is good, we liked it more than the main buffet for lunch. We went down for a long walk along the beach the one day and it was really cool to see the more natural part of the beach. We saw fish, coral, sand dollars, crabs, and sea stars. There was also massive sand dunes! It gets rocky, but definitely cool to explore.
The pools were also very nice. We went to both the activity and the quiet pool. The quiet pool has pizza that was very yummy and the activity pool has a swim up bar. We never had a problem finding chairs at the pool and the area was always clean and the water was a comfortable temperature.
The food was okay. It's Cuba. They do what they can with what they have. The omelet station was good in the morning and they will make eggs your way there. The lines for lunch and dinner could get quite long for the pasta and meat, but the pasta was worth it. They had a variety of vegetables and fruits- we didn't go hungry. We went to 3 a la carts. Stay away from Bana, but the bistro and beach restaurant were both very good. The Bistro was definitely the best. There's also an ice-cream place that was good.
The service was a bit sub-par at this resort. It was difficult to get coffee and juice at breakfast and water/ drinks for dinner at the buffet. The bar tenders rotated, so it was tricky to find the one you liked. Several times we went to the lobby bar and were ignored for several minutes. The snack bars took quite a while for someone to take your order some days. The other bars were more attentive. It just seemed that overall they weren't as friendly as I have experienced at other resorts. There wasn't the smiles and hellos- obviously there were some exceptions to this as some staff were very friendly and attentive, but on the whole, the service just wasn't there. The entertainment was also lacking. There was a show every night, but they were repetitive and not the level we were expecting. Not huge deals, just something we noticed.
Overall, would we return? Maybe.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Ok Resort
Hotel was average. Did not get rooms adjoining as requested-adjoining room was under renovation. Did get 2 rooms next to each other. One room had a faulty electric panel so the lights and air conditioning would not stay on. There was no hot water in the same room. Staff were attentive about the matter however it was never fixed properly. The solution was to move one of the rooms only which was not acceptable to us. Bedding appeared stained and blankets were not clean-obvious signs of uncleanline[... read more]ss. Maids did not change sheets until we asked them to even though they were dirty. One room appeared to have black mold on the wall. Safe in one room did not work.
A lot of broken glass on the grounds and many cigarette buts everywhere. Could have been more well kept overall. Cockroach found in one of our rooms-not impressed. No shade at all in the pool area. Shaded areas were nice on beach but not nearly enough for the demand. Swim up bar drinks were very poor quality. To get a decent beverage you had to go to the main lobby which was a far distance. Snack bar food was very poor quality and most times did not have food available. Evening entertainment was poor and the entertainment center was closed down all week.
