Club Kawama: Krazy Kawame

Kawama is a fun spot for the budget conscious while still giving you a stunning beach, comfortable bed, attentive staff and a delicious cappuccino. The shows are pretty lack-lustre but there’s always a cold bevvy at the bar and some form of excitement with the friendly colourful folk. Kawama’s location is perfect as it’s off the strip but close to town to explore the many night spots, restaurants and markets Varadero has to offer. Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: for those who want to relax

very clean, comfortable beds, good air conditioning, rooms a bit outdated but spacious and adequate. one of the best beaches in varadero, A variety of excellent a la carte restaurants. Good selection at buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Relatively small resort which was nice as everything was in close proximity. Staff very attentive and efficient. a nice retreat for those who just want to lay back and relax.

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Lovely stay at Bella Vista

I enjoyed this hotel very much. The service was very good. The room was clean and large. The grounds and each restaurant was well kept. The lobby was the best place to sit and relax. The logistics of this hotel made it easy to move around. I like that the pool was close to the beach. The beach is beautiful especially for swimming. The food was okay but understandably its Cuba and no fault of the staff.

Starfish Jibacoa: Coral reef is the main bonus

I have been to this resort four times over the last 6 years. Number one reason I go back is the coral reef. Very beautiful real coral reef that you can snorkel all day. Swimming pool is right by the beach, which is very convenient. Service is ok. Food is all right for a week. Facilities are clean but old and sometimes just smell and moist. The biggest issue is there are bed bugs and fleas. All tourist were bitten, especially on the legs. All four times I was there I noticed everyones legs we [... read more]re bitten. The only time I was not, was when I brought a spray from Food Basics and sprayed thoroughly the entire bungalow. Raid spray did Not work and I was bitten by the fleas the last time. I did catch one flea to prove.... Lol Bring a good spray. Maybe even two and have a nice vacation. Otherwise you will pay dear prize by scratching and itching afterwards. Also mind where you walk in the water. There are rock fish that are poisonous knee deep by the beach. That's expected due to the reef life.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Not the best but not the worst

The resort itself was in a good location and the beach is always so beautiful in Cuba. The rooms were okay, the bathroom in particular could of used a little ‘facelift’ but we didn’t spend much time in our room anyways. We were a little disappointed with the food. I’ve been to Cuba a few times before so I know what the food is typically like. we also had access to the resort next door and it was just odd that the food over there was x10 better than at the occidental. I just didn’t unde [... read more]rstand why they couldn’t have just as good of a spread? So my family ended up walking over to the Barcelo Solymar for all our meals. The pool also could of used some work as more than a few tiles were missing off the bottom. I also didn’t like the fact that there was no bar right on the beach, walking back and forth for drinks got kind of annoying. Overall the resort was decent.

Palma Real: Great place!

This hotel has a great location, downtown, great beach and is clean. Great place for a great Price! Food is ok, we liked to walk and also eat at different.places downtown, great clubs to.listen and dance!!!

Melia Marina Varadero: Mixed feelings about this resort

The resort is located at the eastern part of the peninsula. The beaches are the best I've ever been on. The area is beautiful with the marina right next to the resort. While the resort looks great at first glance, there are some maintenance issues. For example, door locks at washrooms at the restaurant by the beach were broken. Not all the faucets were working. Patio door lock had to be fixed. Pool water was cold. Even the hot tub had cold water. There were some staff members (waitstaff, b [... read more]artenders, entertainers bell boys) who were amazing and friendly. However, there were others who just didn't seem to care. The bar staff at the pool and beach were great. But the bar service at the lobby was not. The staff there did not seem to want to serve customers who are not white. Lastly, the food was the worst I've had from an all inclusive resort - I've been travelling almost every year since 1998. The food was tasteless and cold, both at the buffet and the ala Carte restaurants. The food was the biggest disappointment. There was an awful stench in the enclosed area where waitstaff emptied plates of uneaten food at the buffet area. We luckily had perfect weather, and that with the beautiful beaches made the vacation worth while.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Arenas blancas

Everything on the resort was rundown there was no water slide as stated on website or pool bar the food was bad ate out all the time there was no fruit there should be a refund for I’ve been to Cuba many times and never seen so many unhappy guests

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Terrible

Our stay with occidental arenas Blancas was terrible our rooms didn’t look anything like pictured, nor did the resort. Our room was filled with ants, they were in our baby food and they were all over our beds and crawled all over and bit our babies and us while we slept. We will never stay there again and we’re so disappointed we spent all that money and had a horrible stay. Very poor selection of food as well

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Good times!

This is our 4th visit to Iberostar Laguana Azul and hopefully not the last. Love the proximity of everything. Beach is beautiful. All staff are lovely and helpful. Hotel could use some renos and hand sanitizer!

Playa Caleta: Best 4****

Best 4 star around. Rooms are clean, quiet enough to sleep in. Food is good, you will find something to eat as long as your not late to your meal times. The servers are on point whe getting your drinks and clearing tables. The bar tenders are always ready to make your drinks. The security and lifeguards on the beach and resort are there to help and keep an eye on you for your safety and belongings. The entire resort is kept clean and tidy for your enjoyment so please be courteous and clean [... read more] up after yourself.

Melia Marina Varadero: Good Resort

Resort is good and what you’d expect from Cuba. The staff is excellent for the most part. Recommend the Level as the restaurant included blows the buffet away. Food has gone way downhill since we were there in 2014. Beach is one of the best in the world. All in all would return.

Palma Real: Bang for the buck!

The staff is outstanding. If you treat them well, they'll treat you well. The food is sub par, but you're so close to downtown, just go out and get some chicken at Calle 62, or La Gretta etc. It's all about location location location for this place. Alot of Russians are rude and lack class with the staff.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Don't waste your money.

The outside is kept neat and tidy, however the rooms are very bad. We had to argue to get moved to a room that had functioning air conditioning and then it didn’t function that well. The beds are made in the rooms but that is all. There is dirt on the walls, doors, trim, and balcony railings and chairs that never get wiped down. I contracted a planters wart from the shower, therefore it was not being disinfected properly. We ran out of toilet paper twice. The cleaning staff didn’t refill  [... read more]the holders despite giving her many gifts and money. The food is not good, most of it is cold when it should be hot. I know that most food on resorts is mediocre, however, this was inedible. I survived on bread and pizza. I don’t eat bread at home but that’s all there was. The beach is beautiful of course but they don’t rake it and there is garbage strewn about. I’d say that about 60% of the staff is surly. And I don’t blame them because they don’t have support from Iberostar. I’ve been to many, many resorts and this doesn’t even compare to the worst I was at before this. There is a huge gap from this one to the next worse. There is not free Wi-fi, you pay 1 convertible peso per hour. I could go on and on about all of my frustrations with this resort but I think you get the idea.

Melia Las Antillas: good Resort

everything was good but hotel is old and bathrooms are full of mold this was not a great experience asking for changing our room otherwise everything was great especially Beach service people friendly great entertainment at night

Starfish Jibacoa: Clean, friendly and quiet resort

The hotel is kept very clean by the staff. The mattresses could use updating. My room needed to be fumigated for sand fleas, probably because the previous guest let the cats/dogs from the resort in the room. Nothing like waking up to bites all over! The food in the buffet was ok, a lot of fish and liver on the grill. The a la cart made me unwell and the food at the a la cart seemed to be prepared days in advance. The bungalows and the resort overall has had some good upgrades over the years. The poor food choices could be improved upon for sure.

Hotel Villa Cuba: never again

This trip was a second one this year to the same resort . First one we have delay of 6 h for the departure and we lost a lot of precious time but the resort was nice so we decide to go again after 8 months. Second trip was very disappointing since there was no towels in the rooms , food was less variety and always something missing. On top of that the hola sun representatives should book our paid trip to caves Matanzas for Wednesday, we waked up early and when bus stop our name wasn’t on the l [... read more]ist. After that repetitive was nowhere to find all the way until we left . I will never go to the same resort again. One more thing, this resort is listed as a family resort but group of 60 people from Quebec was naked on the beach doing improper things for kids view.

Hotel Los Cactus: Exceptional Value

This was our 3rd visit this year and we plan on repeating that next year. We consider the resort to be our hone away from home. As usual the staff were very accommodating, friendly and respectfull. There is always room for improvement though, to highlight a few areas that could be better, the grounds are not very well lit, with numerous lights out on the walkways. Yes they are replacing lights but to me it should be priorized over Christmas decorations. Frankly I am tired of hearing the "embarg [... read more]o is responsible" it seems to be a catch all for a variety of problems. All I can say to that is other resorts seem to have sufficent lighting. The hot tubs are never hotter than luke warm, they look good but should be set at a higher temperature. Our room was good as usual but replacement shower heads would improve my rating. Food, well that remains a problem in the Buffet area. The variety just isn't there, I just can't eat pork every day. The beef wasn't too bad but not served very often. Chicken is okay but served poorly, ie the chicken is hacked into pieces rather than serving sliced or boneless. Pasta okay served warm at best . Breakfast okay but I don't consider sliced hot dogs and hamburger meat as breakfast items. Bacon wasn't served as I know it just slices of fat with a little ham on it. The omelettes are very good, Take your own tobasco or hot sauce to add some spice as most Cuban food is bland. Not to forget the 2 a la cartes are great The Itailan restaurant serves an excellent filet mignon and lasagna, the Cuban restaurant was also quite good, shrimps, pineapple chicken pork etc Entertainment was good, the pool clean but cold, the sauna hasn't worked for years but you can still get a good massage. The fitness area is okay but not much equipment working. Basketball court is great the tennis courts need some repair and for golfers the course is handy opposite the hotel. The beach is spectacular, clean white sand, the water is warm and very inviting, lots of equipment, paddle boats, sail boats, kayaks etc, beach volleyball and so on. We had a great time and are looking forward to going again in January, if the food is not to our liking we go into Varadero where a variety of restaurants thrive. I would recommend Varadero 60 for a night out just a 7-10 cuc cab ride away. 30 visits and still going if that tells you anything!

Be Live Turquesa: Excellent Vacation

If you are looking for a small to mid size resort with a beautiful beach and pool area this is for you. I would rate the resort as modest perfection. The beach is the best I have seen anywhere in the world, white powdery sand, beautiful aqua coloured water, spotlessly clean as far as the eye can see. The pool is large and clean, lots of chairs. You can walk the beach for miles. The food is basic but good. I am not a picky eater so there was always lots of choices and you should never go hungry.  [... read more]Bars are nice with all staff going above and beyond. We had a renovated room which was very nice, walk in shower was a nice bonus. All and all one of the best holidays I have ever had (30+ times to the Caribbean.). Please don’t go expecting a “ brass and marble” fancy resort, the excellent staff and beautiful surroundings make the resort special. You can’t walk to town but cabs are right outside the resort, super cheap. Worked with a Cuban connection to arrange a day trip to Havana. Hamlet Gonzalez Denis, he is on Facebook, set us up with a driver/tour guide who spoke English in a mint 57 Chevy, beyond fantastic. All and all a fantastic holiday! Thank you all, we will be back to Cuba as soon as we can save up some pesos!

Muthu Playa Varadero: Had a great time

We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. The pool was clean and the bars were open when required. We enjoyed the barbecue. The staff members responsible for housekeeping were friendly and made wonderful designs with the linens. Swans with the towels. Thank you.
