Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Not so great resort

Very unorganized hotel and bad service. Just went there for our honeymoon August 2018. They did not have a room for us even though we booked through trip central and had no note of us being on our honeymoon. Trip central did advise Bahia Principe but they were oblivious when arriving there. Stained sheets on bed when freshly made by maids and a lot of kids. I have been to other Bahia Principe properties but this was the worse one yet. I do not recommend going there.

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Excellent Stay

The resort was clean and well kept. The food was great with a lot of options at the buffet. A la Cartes were great as well! Nicole our wedding planner was amazing and Ramon treated us well when booking our excursion.

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Great Resort

It's was a great vacation. We enjoyed every aspect of this hotel. It is a very large resort and we probably only saw 1/4. It was very clean, immaculate actually, staff was friendly, food was great lot of choice of restaurants. Never hassled by vendors. The only down side was the beach and the massive amounts of seaweed. We will definetly consider this hotel the next time we go to Punta Cana. Favorite drink for the week Mojitos awesome. Thanks for a great week!

The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Fantastic Resort!

The food was good but I wouldn’t say it was outstanding. The cleanliness of the resort and the outgoing/friendliness of the staff and having lots of activities to do made up for the food. We certainly got our exercise at this resort! Lots of stairs and pathways to walk everywhere! Would recommend asking for a main hotel room if you can’t do stairs... 8/10

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Wonderful Resort - Very Luxurious

The resort was amazing. Rooms were very spacious. Clean. Bathrooms were clean and fresh towels daily. The grounds were immaculate. You saw workers everyday keeping the place beautiful. Pools were great. Never any issues with finding a chair although people reserve the chairs very early in the morning. This happens at every resort. 3 pools separated by bridges. The louder pool is always busy as thats the one with the swim up bar. Entertainment at the pool daily which was a nice  [... read more]touch. Great to watch! Nightly entertainment was great - started at 9pm. The entertainment staff really try to engage the visitors, a lot. One criticism, lots of smokers around which is ok. The hotel should think about sectioning off smoking and non-smoking sections outside as sometimes the amount of smoke really took away from enjoying the entertainment. Construction at the blue section is not noticeable at all! only when you take the golf cart to the beach then you see it otherwise you don't see or hear anything at all. Really fabulous resort. Beyond our expectations. We will definitely go back next year and looking forward to seeing the Ambar Blue sectiton fully renovated.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Aweful customer service, room quality poor

Awefull experience, had leaks in 2 differnt rooms and a power outage on top of it. They think a braclet for 2 days is sufficient compensation. They would not respond to my written complaint( leak in bathroom so bad, I had a slip and hurt my back) didn' respond until I used the word lawyer. Would not go back and would not recomend , 5 star hotel with 1 star customer service

Worst hotel we have been to in Mexico. Don’t recommend . Extremely rude staff specially at front desk. Not willing to help. Not worth the money. Rooms are dated. Beach is rocky. Food is repetitive. Pool is dirty.

Horrible service by front desk manager. Will not be returning to the resort. Went as a group to celebrate my 50th, 15 of us booked 6 rooms. We were made to feel as if the hotel was doing us a favour by allowing us to stay there.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Beautiful, clean, fun resort!!!

We loved the beautiful, clean rooms, swim up bars, pools, restaurants, food and friendly staff. Everything is amazing, except for all of the seaweed in the ocean. I’d go again in a heartbeat! We loved it!

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Beautiful resort

Beautiful resort, rooms,grounds, amazing staff , food was good drinks also we noticed the grounds were always kept clean. pleasant staff. Very helpful, beach good but not clear. The only thing to get a glass of wine during dinner at the buffet restaurant was abit slow. But the waiters were very nice. I suggest to leave a bottle of wine at the table so I don’t have to wait for a glass of wine. Animation team great but you need more entertainment around the pool, and at night. I noticed there was slot more to do in the family resort then the adult side. Overall I really enjoyed my stay.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Fantastic vacation destination

Very clean. Excellent service. Great facilities for all, especially for kids. Lots of good shows and entertainment for children. Food at the buffets were great with lots of choice and plentiful. Pool bartenders were excellent. Downside was the beach was covered in seaweed. .

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: First time in Mexico

Beautiful grounds. Rooms clean. Spa was fabulous. Beach nice. More umbrellas around the pool would be good. Buffet selection good. More evening entertainment would be good. The theatre was too hot to enjoy the Jersey Boys. Needed more ventilation in area. Nice to be able to make dinner reservations via email before arrival however more consideration should be given when special request for rooming configuration are required especially when more than one room are booked. All in all good vacation.

Great location. Beautiful property. Buffet staff courteous and very accommodating. Rooms clean and plenty amenities. Transportation to surrounding properties were always available. Spa very relaxing. Premium alcohol provided. Food was good many choices however after 4th day became a little redundant. Ala carte restaurants were good with the exception of Mediterranean at Coba..staff and food mediocre. Mikado and Tortuga were exceptional. Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Resort is excellent we love it

our hotel was excellent,it has everything that we need the cleaners came every day to tidy up supply us with water every one is so friendly. the ground is nice and clean with palm and coconut trees and lots of beautiful flowers, the buffay food is great we enjoy it every night there is different shows, the wagon takes us all around the resort we took two excursions one to mayan ruins and one to chichin itza we went to matis jewel store, tequila testing, cigar rolling and 5th ave we did lots of s [... read more]hopping. tripcentral send me a gift card of a 100 dollars i was so busy i cound not use it at the air port. Overall we had a great time in mexico and we will go back again when the right time comes.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Great resort, HORRIBLE BEACH

Distance: Resort was 2 hours away from the airport. Pools: It has a water park for kids, 2 big pools, a pool bar, and a snack bar close to the pool. Maintained clean. There are several lifeguards that patrol the pools and all are very strict and seem to have a deep affinity with their whistles. They blow their whistle every 2 minutes, so it was very annoying. Pools are only open from 7:30 am-7:30 pm. Towel service is only available from 7:30 am - 5 pm Service: a lot of the service folks do no [... read more]t speak English so unless you speak a little bit of Spanish, it’ll take a while before you get what you asked for. The staff are friendly and are really committed to their jobs. Room: clean, spacious. The AC did not have enough ventilation to reach the farther part of the room. The pillows smell like sweat so we had to put towels over them. Safety lock is extremely outdated. You need to carry along the key each time and it’s $20 if you lose it. Food: they have a wide variety of selection. Very kid-friendly and their healthy food selection is pretty good too. Beach: WHAT A LET DOWN. covered in moss, we didn’t get a chance to swim in the ocean as there were truckloads of moss being hauled out for the entire day. Tips: although not required, you’d feel bad not tipping. The servers barely earn $2/day.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Beautiful resort!

The grand lobby was impressive! The rooms were spacious nicely decorated and very clean. We were accommodated with adjoining rooms for our kids. We liked the higher floor too as the villa was right beside the pools but high enough for privacy. The room was always perfectly made when we come in to rest and get ready before dinner. The family liked to have drinks after dinner at the beautiful lobby bar while watching / dancing to the live music and activities in the courtyard. The buffet is near b [... read more]y with endless selection of delicious choices. The shows were entertaining at the theatre next door. The kids also liked the pool table by the theatre. There are A LOT of activities including scuba diving lessons, water aerobics and out favourite beach volleyball at the beach. The pools are huge and swim up bar was nice. The property is enormous!! We took the shuttle to the beach which came every 5-10 minutes. It was ok because it was very hot to walk far when we were there. I probably want to have a villa closer to the beach next time. The restaurants were great. Again the buffet had a lot of selections, the Pisces restaurant had very good grilled food and the paella was delicious. We enjoyed the mikado tepanyaki table but our favourite was the Garden Grill restaurant for their ribeye steaks and tenderloin. There was a large amount of seaweed in the beaches BUT the staff did an incredible job in constantly cleaning the weeds out. We walked down the beach to other properties but we couldn’t continue far because the other properties had a lot of died up seaweed all over the sand that it hurt to walk barefoot. There was a lot of mosquitoes but the resort sprayed once in a while to control it. It was difficult to control when it rained for a couple of nights. I think it helped bring on a higher floor so there was less bugs compared to being on the ground floor. Overall it was an amazing family vacation and looking forward to go back again!

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Awesome resort

This was our second time staying at the Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo in Samana. We had an amazing time once again. We love this resort because it is on the smaller side which makes it easier to get around. We also love that El Portillo is located right on the beach so there is no need to take a shuttle back and forth to the beach. The beach is simply spectacular! The water is fantastic for swimming and snorkelling. We brought our own snorkelling gear and saw lots of beautiful tropical fish o [... read more]n our own without having to book an excursion. There are only 2 swimming pools. The large pool located right on the beach hosts daily activities. We enjoyed going for a swim in the small pool located away from all of the action. It has a bar where you can get a drink and is a nice quiet place to chill out after a busy day at the beach. The A la Carte restaurants were excellent. Our favourite was Portofino (Italian). The buffets offered a wide variety of choices for breakfast lunch and dinner. We particularly enjoyed eating lunch at Las Olas buffet while taking in the gorgeous views of the beach just steps away! The service in all areas of the resort was outstanding! We will definitely be returning to Bahia Principe El Portillo in the future!

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: awesome stay

Great for people who want to book all of their meals being al a carte. If like higher end meals book more or all in the Gourmet restaurants and wear long pants. Golf is fantastic, mention that flew with Air Canada for better rate, even if didn't, they don't care. Off the beach, however shuttles to beach, or Bahia Principe properties Telum and Akumel leave regularly.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Great resort-----we had a wonderful time!!

The hotel was definitely 4 plus stars, clean, large rooms marble and ceramic throughout. The staff were top-notch friendly polite and always greeting you appropriately. We have little negative to add other than the fact that the food in the restaurants was not Montreal/Toronto calibre often rating 8/10. Don't get me wrong... it was more than acceptable but fell short a bit at times. Do try the jerk-chicken (near the beach)... we ate it often... its 10/10!!! The beaches are acceptable if y [... read more]ou like to simply cool-off since they are very shallow and protected with a rocky breakwater. People sit for hours on a sandy bottom with the water at neckline IE: less than 4' deep. I strongly suggest that you bring minimum waterproof SPF50 sunscreen since we both got sunburns even though we frequently added protection. As far as tourist go we met Canadians, English, French, German, Russian and obviously Americans making up the majority. Age wise there were a lot of middle aged and younger couples who seemed to come for different reasons. Jamaica tolerates cannabis usage with many tourists openly smoking on the beach. It would seem that many of the younger couples visit Jamaica specifically for this reason. No judgment on my part... just an observation. I mention this because if you are prudish about this kind of thing than maybe Jamaica is not for you. Nobody bothered us to buy so I have no idea where they got it... anyway just an observation. We would definitely go again, we commented that it was one of the most relaxing vacations we have in many years. Overall we would rate this as 9.5 on 10 taking all factors into consideration including value for the money.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Good quality but has its drawbacks

Pros: Always good to open with what worked at this resort. Overall maintenance was good. Area is quite lush and full of vegetation, plenty of lizards )although far too many fed the Iguanas which have become quite brazen and the Hotel is trying to manage) and other wildlife which adds a good dynamic. Grounds are well kept and Villas are in good upkeep. Food quality is very good and there was never any issue with supply or access to food. Pasta, crepe and Omellet bar service was fantastic.  [... read more]Friday night is themed Canadian night at the buffet which my kids enjoyed. From a cosmetic and food quality perspective the resort fully met expectations and lived up to the Bahia brand on these levels Cons: for late July this resort was very busy and I understand likely at capacity and in my opinion understaffed for the inner of guests in hand!!! Why? We had to wait for a table to eat at Buffett (breakfast and dinner) and you had to ask for the table to be cleared, supplied with cutlery and good luck getting drink service (water, juice, soft drinks or alcohol) unless you booked a restaurant for dinner and it did not matter if it was peak dining time or not. In fact we caught on that if you wanted a table cleared you had to stand up at the table until you caught someone’s attention to clear and set the table. Even then is was 50/50 for drinks. For reserved restaurants we could only book 3/4 reserved restaurants as all the times had booked up literally within a 2 hours of our arrival so get in quick! To be fair we could have booked a fourth but they offered a 930 pm seating which I did not feel was practical. During buffet dining which you will have to partake in during your stay, If you left your table for food service it would be swiped so someone had to remain at table at all times. I found this to be very annoying. Staff in the buffet area were not friendly in this restaurant. This is likelh a symptom of being over worked. To their defence they could barely keep up to the number of diners present. A similar rule applies to pool chairs. Folks would place towels out at 730 am only to return at 1pm (no enforcement by he resort here) and in general getting a chair poolside or in shade was a no go on two of the 7 mornings. Some people were forced to lay out towels in the grass under a palm tree for a place to sit. Again - not enough resources to service a full property. The Coba resort is quite the inconvenient distance from the “Tulum” property where you can access the beach or various reserved restaurants. Large resorts will use a buggy or train service as does this however using the “train” service was frustrating. Be warned there are Significant wait times and a race to get on the train when it would arrive from the main lobbie or Hacienda! Even with small children, strollers etc. people would not hesitate to jump the line. At times common manners lacked from the guests - again likely a symptom of operating at capacity devoid of sufficient resource to manage guests. The walk to the beach from Coba was way too far so if you like being fairly close to he Beach or at least see Ocean in the distance even if a pool person you could find far better options. Essentially this resort was too big and set back to far from the Ocean for my liking. In comparison to the Bahia Principe Punta Cana the recommendation would be to visit Punta Cana if you had the choice. Uncontrollable: seaweed on the beach during June and July is evidently a natural phenomena. While we prefer the pool a traditional walk along the beach to look for sea shells etc or a pleasant stroll was impossible and not enjoyable in an area that is reknown for beautiful beaches due to the excessive amount of accumulated seaweed. And I mean excessive! While the resort employed full time people (gruelling work) shovelling and removing seaweed on bobcats stacks were remained up to 4 feet high in late afternoon. If you are looking for a beach experience be forewarned to steer clear at this time of year. I’ve been to Mayan Riviera many times and had never seen the beach like this. To be fair we were warned by the agent and having experienced seaweed around the same time in Punta Cana last year, I was not prepared for what I saw here at the end of July. The Hotel has installed barriers in an attempt to control the problem albeit the downside is they diminished the beauty of the ocean view. In fact it may have made things worse and they seemed to trap the seaweed in a designated swimming area. The children’s water park is suitable for kids up to about the age of 7. Overall the resort experience was fair and in hindsight compared to the high standard set with this chain in Runaway Bay and Punta Cana disappointing and not a preferred recommendation for the money.
