The place is massive so make sure you bring some good walking shoes. The people (Staff) were extremely accommodating and pleasant all the time.
We booked and went to the Capri, Santa Fa & Trattoria restaurants were all very good and included. We eat most breakfasts at the Mariachi snack bar. They (were near the pools and our room) and had an excellent assortment all was very good.
Most evenings we went to Strikers bowling alley & bar the food there was also excellent! The staff was am[... read more]azing! There was not as big of an assortment as the Buffets, but still very good.
During the day we spent @ poolside. You'll have to remember to get your towels out (on the loungers) early in the morning, but it seemed people did leave and there was usually a lounger or 2 to be found.
People we talked to have been coming here and other Barcelo Resorts for years and love them.
I would and have recommended this place to others.
I'm SURE we will be back, if not to the Mayan Riviera to another Barcelo's resort

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Great Resort
The Royalton is a large resort and the Hideaway is an all adult section within the resort which we enjoyed.
The hideaway had an excellent pool area, restaurant and barbecue. One could stay there without going to the rest of the resort.
The Royalton buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was extensive and excellent.
The resort had 11 specialty restaurants that did not require reservations. Food choices were incredible. We especially enjoyed the Teppanyaki restaurant, the Mexican restaurant the [... read more]Indian restaurant and the steak house.
Rooms were excellent with an outside jacuzzi.
The beach was beautiful and the staff throughout the resort were very friendly and helpful.
Overall an excellent vacation.
A special shout-out to Nicolle Kirk in arranging our trip.

Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort and Spa: It was not a five star it was only a three star
When Allen and I arrive to the hotel little to our knowledge, they put us in a room beside garbage cans, and outside. Our room on the balcony was a dirty pool with garbage in it.. We went to the front desk to ask if we could be transferred into another room. We got told they would upgrade us for $200 more. Allen and I talked about it and when we went back now it was $1000 that we missed out that someone else took the room. We told them that we were not looking for an upgrade. We wanted another r[... read more]oom that did not smell of garbage. The floors were dirty in there. The doors were falling off the closets.. The next day they found us another room on the other side of the building. When we got to the room, it was in worst shape than the first one in the shower was falling apart. The doors were falling off on the cupboards was not a safe room to be in.. Went down and told him we were not accepting this room so I got asked to sign up confidential form, stating I would not sue them. Then they moved us over to where the kids side of the building. Never got much sleep over there at all. We finally got fed up and couldn’t wait to get home.. The day where you had to check out, we went down and asked what time to be at the front door to be taken to the airport. No one had any information we tried phoning our travel agent, but never answered his phone. We finally got a hold of somebody that gave us information and told us to be there at the front at 1:05..pm we were there waiting and finally it was getting late we asked again. They phoned to see where the bus was and we got told they were not coming that we were to pay for it and we would get reimbursed.. I have the copy of the signed confidential that they got me to sign. I also took photos if you wish to have them sorry to say I would not recommend this hotel to no one. They just tried to take your money.

Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Good Resort
The hotel was clean and staff were kind and helpful. Our room was very small with a double bed, couch and a shower/toilet room but we booked the daily double and got what we paid for. The buffet was good but not amazing while the a la carts were fantastic with a reservation required the day of at 8:00am. Nightlife was none existing after the show and required a trip into town but there were plenty of activities during the day to tire you out. Also, food and snacks did not seem available after 1[... read more]0:00pm. The adult only infinity pool was amazing with a swim up bar but hard to find a chair unless you got up early to reserve a lounger. 2nd pool for all was large and seemed to accommodate everyone with a bar and food close by. There was very little seating in the lobby bar area and could have used some tables and chairs to gather with others to play games, cards, etc... Beach walks into Bucerias took about 30-40 minutes and was a nice break to visit the market and some of their local restaurants. The beach was good but also hard to find a lounger unless you were up early. Better signage could be helpful for use of their amenities as they were off the beaten path and well hidden. On our last night we stumbled into the kids building to find out it turned into an adult games room in the evening with air hockey, pool tables etc.... It was a fun place to be.

Riu Santa Fe: Beautiful but loud
This Riu was one of the nicest, well kept hotels we have ever stayed at. Clean, great restaurants, nice beach, great amenities. The downside is it was very loud almost everywhere on the resort. The pools were close together with competing music at almost all times, and the entertainment staff was a bit much. 4 days a week they hold a rave style party which is impossible to escape on the resort and most likely the neighbouring resorts as well. It was a bit much. And of course after parties like t[... read more]hat people are not going to be quiet in the hallways or outside your rooms. If you are looking to party this is the place to go. If you want to relax and rest maybe try another Cabo resort. Cabo was a wonderful destination though and I would consider returning for sure which isn’t something we tend to do. Overall a beautiful resort but loud.

Grand Oasis Riviera: Lunchbox let down
Although we were thrilled with the service, staff, and food it was all overshadowed by how misleading the resort description and pictures were. We specifically booked Grand Oasis Tulum for the amenities offered for children and for how family friendly the resort was. Unfortunately, many of the features shown online were not even there, we were informed that the pictures are over two years old…the hotel was so far off of what we expected we even checked our booking to make sure we were at the cor[... read more]rect hotel! We also were met with loud music entertainment at night which would normally be great BUT it was all hosted in the “kid zone“ area, it was extremely disruptive to our child and made bedtime extremely difficult…why they do this when there is an entire adult only section we couldn’t quite figure out. Overall we made the best of it but we were extremely disappointed in how misleading the the details were. Please update the site as what is being shown is so not what the hotel offers or even looks like anymore…

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: A total escape!
We needed a break and specifically did not want to be in a city type area, it was an R&R vacation. Royalton Cancun was ideal. The Diamond Club was beyond excellent, our butlers Enrique & Vanessa were completely thoughtful, proactive & accommodating- we never had to ask for any of the services provided with our stay- they engaged us proactively. The resort is in the middle of many upgrades and you would never really know it because the work is being planned not to interrupt guests. The restaurant[... read more]s and kitchens are all very clean and well appointed. The grounds are kept in impeccable order even after a wind storm the clean up was swift.
I look forward to the full site refresh under the Marriott Bonvoy banner but we enjoyed every single day.
Special appreciation to Ana Gaby from Royalton Excursions who set us up on the perfect and enjoyable adventures.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Royalton Riviera Cancun resort
Just got back from Royalton Riviera Cancun. Overall the resort was beautiful, beach was great rooms were nice and well kept. Pools were good but a little on the chilly side .Entertainment was good and I enjoyed the aquafit class in the main pool.
The buffet was excellent and I want to mention some excellent service. Ask to be seated In Orlando's section. Between Orlando and his sidekick Samuel, you will receive some of the best service I have ever experienced in a resort.
Also the Carribean [... read more]restaurant deserves mention. This was our favorite. The chef Luis is a great up and coming new chef. He made our evening twice, serving fantastic meals and personally presenting us with a custom desert plate. Salvador and Cesar provided excellent service.
Or favorite restaurants aside from the Caribe were Taj, Algave, Gracie, Zen and Hunters steakhouse in that order. Steaks were good but all sides were served on the cold side.
Cudos also to Manuel and Alejandro at the main lobby bar. Thanks for chilling our wine glasses and excellent expresso martinis.
Overall we enjoyed this resort but have to cover the bad. We preselected our rooms and paid for the privilege. Our friend who joined us a week later also booked and paid for an adjoining room. On arrival we were told our room was already occupied and tried to switch us to an inferior room in another building overlooking kids pool. After much discussion they put us in a swim up for 2 days and moved us to a room in the same building. Day 3 was spent babysitting our passports while waiting til after 3 for the new room. They did not want to refund our booking fee because our room was in the same building. Also they guaranteed our friend would get the adjoining room. Guess what? She ended up with room on another floor opposite side of building. They moved her to her original room next day and her 2nd day was spent waiting for new room. In the end money was refunded.

This place has it all , reasonably modern rooms , great room service , especially when you tip the cleaning lady. The beach is very nice , not Cuba beach , but OK , some rocks, watchout. Food OK , if you are young and not fussy. For those that need Wifi , you are in luck, works great in the room.
So ,everything considered , and after visiting over 30 resorts in the caribbean , and because it offers
all the amenities we require , I admit we will obviously return.
its like going to wal-mart , not always the cheapest , nor the best , but it supplies all the necessities ,
so why look elsewhere , as we have found that elsewhere there are disappointments galore.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Great. Family vacation
We just got back from a family vacation here and it was such a great place to go. Our toddler had an absolute blast and everyone was so friendly! We thought the whole resort was well kept and clean. No issues with anything of that nature at all. The restaurants were a bit hard to get into as we could not make reservations (we were not diamond club) which was a bit tricky with young kids and early bedtimes. We did get into a few of the restaurants and we had very pleasant experiences (just not wi[... read more]th the sports bar). I had trouble with the crib provided as it had a thick soft mattress and a mattress that did not fit (2 inch gap around) with a small infant so I did request a new crib and was given a pack n play which worked perfectly for my little guy. Overall we had a great experience as a group of 10 (6 adults, 2 toddlers and two “babies”).

Riu Flamingos: Subpar at Best
I’ll just start by saying if you expect this to be even close to a 5 star resort you’ll be greatly disappointed. I knew it wouldn’t compare with the other resorts I’ve been to but did not expect the food to be so horrible. I work in Northern Alberta and stay in a camp where the food is better. The beds are terribly uncomfortable as well and didn’t get a full nights sleep once during my stay. If you want a budget friendly resort this will do you just fine. However if you want a quieter, comfortab[... read more]le resort with food that’ll leave you wanting more then this is not it. I guess you get what you pay for and this place has affirmed in me that I’ll never stay here or any other 4 star resort again.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Royal Decameron was just "ok"
My wife and I have never been to this resort and here is our unbiased review. We were at the resort the last 2 weeks in Jan 2024.
We had a great time at the resort, but we probably would not be returning again. Nothing major happened, but a bunch of "could be better" items just added up. The grounds were nice and kept up. Getting around the resort was fairly easy and not crowded at all. Pools near our Block 6 were not crowded, and were fairly quiet. Nice music coming from the bar a[... read more]rea at Block 6 and was not obnoxious and was a good nice atmosphere. Staff was ok, and friendly. I'm sure that we never took advantage of all the amenities that the resort offered, but then again we didn't hear of any either other than what was playing at the Auditorium and when.
A bunch of positives are the buffet, which was actually really good and we commented many times that the buffet food was good and lots of variety. On the most part, food was usually fresh and warm, but as all buffets, it usually gets cold by the time you get back to your table. Tables and lineups were not too long depending on the time you went - usually at a min at buffet.
The nightly shows were really great and we caught most of them. Hats off to the master of ceremonies and the crew of dancers - they were very good!!
Some of the "could be better" items.. The rooms are basic. My wife and I are not "high maintenance" and not "world travers" and are basic normal appreciative people. We originally were sent to building 2, but complained about the fruit type flies and oldness smelling of the room and asked to be moved. We then went to building 6, which was much more modern. Again, the small things add up, but in our building 6 room, there was a missing lamp shade, receptacles were extremely worn out (for chargers), all dresser drawers were not able to pull out/broken and a small fridge would have been a nice touch - but nothing fancy. The bed was so hard that we went to Walmart and bought a foam to put under sheets. We asked for thinner pillows but never got any , they were made more for long neck type individuals. The doors between the next room, if you had a large family and you could open them to be connected, were paper thin and you could hear virtually everything in the adjoining room. The noise from the rooms below and the room on the other side were fairly quiet.
The sun lounges were solid white plastic and looked really nice, but were extremely uncomfortable on the back and butt. They were SO much better after we bought floating air mattresses to put on the lounges to make them comfortable - big tip for future people!!. Lounges around the pools and beach were usually "taken" fairly early in the morning, and i mean early - at the beach, they were "taken" before 8am. Pretty typical for a resort, but it is frustrating to see lounges taken with towels, but not used for the day, again, pretty typical for any resort.
The restaurant reservation system is a joke to be honest. You have to register the "morning of" and you have to register online. With 4 restaurants and 600+ rooms, reservations are hard to get. The major frustrating problem is getting on to the WIFI, at 8am, and registering with 599 other rooms at the same time. By 8;10 am there are no other options left but buffet. If you are not "techy" on your phone, the buffet will be your go to. The 4 restaurants were different, but ok. The Italian was by far the best one for us.
Again, we would not go back to this resort, One also had to take a cab or ubur anywhere outside the resort. No shuttle service, or bus for any excursions either, I personally think the resort is rated higher than it is on line.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Fun times.
We took our family to this resort for a week. Age range 3-66. There were 10 of us.
Good: fantastic tasty, amazing variety of food at the buffet. Service was awesome. Tables accommodated us all at 1 table. The beach club had great fish and chicken fingers also with many others fresh options for lunch. Delicious. Also great service.
So many places to explore. Lots of pools and chairs. Beach was awesome with snorkeling and fish in the protected swim area. Lots of activity made the water murky [... read more]at times. Beach was perfect for our 3,7,8,9 year olds. Pools were cool but swimmable. Ocean was warmer than the pool.
All areas were very clean.
Entertainment was very good. Kids participated in the Moana show.
Trolleys were plentiful and reliable. There was a lot of walking and as the week progressed we found shorter routes to the places we wanted to go. The walk on the beach from Akumal to Tulum resorts was easy and enjoyable about 10 minutes. Swimming with dolphins was at Tulum. Bonus.
Staff was amazing everywhere. Helpful and friendly.
The kids really enjoyed the animals. Iguanas, coatis, and little brown no tailed “wumps” we called them. Were everywhere. They ran if approached so didn’t bother anyone. Fun to watch. People fed them and the coatis would get close with feeding. We did not feed them.
Down side: big resort that had lots of walking. We love to walk so it was fine and the walkways are well kept and maintained so no issues with getting around. Trolleys were available and reliable arriving about every 15 minutes and picked up along the way if you decided not to walk. Priority was provided for those with mobility issues, the young and old we found.
Rooms were a bit tired but clean. Our bed was comfortable but our daughter found hers hard. The sitting area turned into a bed so was great for the kids.
Overall great resort that we were happy to experience for the 2nd time. Great kids pool areas at Tulum and Coba resorts which were accessible by trolley or on foot.
Our group divided and did Ek Balan tour which was amazing. Deep sea fishing also good and dolphin swim-amazing.
Should you require medical attention it is available at the market, also accessible by trolley on the resort. It was very good too.
We really enjoyed our stay. We will return.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Enjoyable trip
We enjoyed our stay and Bahia Principe Grand Coba. We were there for New Year's Eve and was impressed with the big party they prepared. We also liked the 3 story units with 8 rooms on our half of the building on our floor versus a big hotel experience.
We were disappointed there was only one volleyball court that was shared amongst the 2 hotels. It would be ideal if a second volleyball court for children was added so people who know how to play volleyball could enjoy the game.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Not terrible but wouldn't recommend for families
Pros: Beautiful grounds
Cons:
Beach/pools - No nice beach area where kids can run into the water (very rocky). Pools were incredibly cold and quite dirty.
For a family resort, it wasn't very family friendly - Despite requesting a crib/pack n play and being told repeatedly there would be one (prior to the visit and upon check in), we did not receive one and were told it's because of a "liability". If we had been informed this prior, we could have planned appropriately. Quite irresponsib[... read more]le for a family resort to not provide adequate beds for all ages of children. Food times are also not amenable to young kids (no food prior to 7 am, minimal food options between buffet times and long wait times). Kids shows/activities also don't start until 8:30/9 pm
Rooms - we were without water for ~24h in our room. We kept being told it would be fixed in 30 minutes and someone would be by - this didn't occur.
Food - Food was mediocre at best. Buffet food was always cold (even though we were first to arrive in the am). Ordered room service multiple times however, doesn't come ~50% of the time.
Service - service was quite poor. Resort staff seem quite irritated at any request and hesitate to help

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great Family/Kids Resort
I could talk at length about this resort. Overall it's a great spot for families and checks off all the boxes of things. Rooms are excellent for families of 4 with kids under 12(ish), resort is beautiful, and there is a lot of things to do on the resort. I found that staff to be excellent, and service wait time was very fast (minutes). This resort could easily be a 10/10 in exception to the food. There is essentially one buffet and there was always a lineup. The food was very repetitive an[... read more]d mediocre at best. The layout of the buffet is terrible as it promotes lineups instead of sectioning things off and spreading people out to access the buffet. Restaurants were very difficult to book and we eventually gave up. We were able to get two of them, Italian & Brazilian. Italian was very weak. Food came out cold and was ok at best. Brazilian was incredible. The buffet section was superior to everything in the resort in exception to the amazing main dishes. It was easily the highlight of food on the resort. Other than the food this place was fantastic. I suspect we will be back again before our kids are in their teens. On another note, it's not great for elderly people. The walking surfaces are not great for those with knee/hip issues, and you might get stuck on the third floor without an elevator. Just something to think about if your in laws/parents are tagging along and are not as mobile at they once were. There is also a lot of walking (which I actually really like). Something to consider for those who are less inclined to be moving around. With that said, it's also dependant on where your room is located, and where you plan to be each day and your overall activity level (review the map). I think this spot can easily be a 5 star if they fix their food situation. Some of it is variety, some is quality, some is the structure. All could easily be fixed with minor renovation, organization, and food selection.
