The grounds and the staff at this hotel were fabulous. They were all very friendly, and as helpful as they could be. However, the rooms in the Yucatán part of the hotel, are old and worn out. There was a damp, musty smell that never left the room. the bathroom definitely needed an overhaul.

Hotel Dos Playas Faranda: A Great Location
We were apprehensive but after arriving we were pleasantly suprised with this resort. Small and packed with amazing entertainment, five restaurants that were all good (sushi bar, pizza bar, a la carte, buffet and the hamburger, hot dog bar) open hours coincide with most tours. I don’t drink so can’t speak of the bars but there was three of them. beach was great. you won’t be disappointed.

Firstly I would like to say thank you to TripCentral for making the booking process easy. Secondly, Sunwing was a nice experience with me issues. Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Not bad but not great!
The resort was very nice to walk around, very pleasant grounds, good size room and bathroom, and beds/pillows were very comfy! On the down side, the buffet food wasnt great, but trying to get a reservation in another restaurant was difficult. The lack of communication was very evident, you could ask the same question multiple times and get a different answer each time. While we did have a great holiday, that was due to the weather, beach and quality family time and not because of the resort we s[... read more]tayed at.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Nice resort, great vacation!
We really liked the resort: the food was really good, we enjoyed the lazy river, the beach was also good even though you have to pay attention to the rocks, there are plenty of chairs at the beach and pools.
Most of the personal is very friendly and helpful, we specifically want to mention Julio Cesar Chan Cumui from the Restaurant Tulum who really went out of his way to make us feel good, was always with a big smile on his face.
What I think will make this a perfect place would be to heat up [... read more]the pools and jacuzzi during the colder season. We would have liked to spend time in the pools but they were pretty cold. Also just as a recommendation the activities were not clearly advertised or at list we could see a schedule until we happen to find a website..

Catalonia Yucatan: We all got sick
Shows are good. Food is okay but rooms need some serious reno. Its all and it got mold in the room. We all ended up with pneumonia. They dont wash cups properly and especially at the bars.
Service at The mexican restaurant is garbage. This resort is not 4.5 star. Its 3 at best.

Viva Maya by Wyndham: Top choice
Arrived at the hotel in about 1hr from the Cancun airport. The check in was smooth and organized - no time wasted there.
The premises are clean with well defined signs to guide your first day on site. Arrived late at night but the buffet at the pool offered quite a variety of food for the hungry traveler.
The rooms are clean and modern. The safe at no charge was an added bonus.
The food at the A la Carte and buffet was excellent with top notch presentation(s) and good variety for all taste[... read more]s. The staff is courteous and helpful. Plenty of entertainment across the resort at different times of the day.
The only dislike is the extreme noise level at rooms close to the main stage.

Riu Emerald Bay: Amazing Resort
Rooms, food & service was fantastic. Maids were amazing & waiter’s. Great bartender’s. The only downfall is that the entertainment needs to be improved. They need at least a Michael Jackson impersonator. They also need the head of entertainment to speak better English. P.S I’ll never book with Trip Central as my agent told me & emailed me a visitax form that cost me for 2 $58.71 US dollars. I then find out I didn’t have to purchase it. Not for Mazatlan, Mexico. Trip Central said it was my fault.[... read more] I reached out to the Mexican government & they will honor this if I visit a city that needs this visitax form.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Wonderful stay at Sian Ka'an and Bahia Principe complex
The Sian Ka'an is an adults only resort. It is part of a larger complex of Hotels all managed by Bahia Principe. You can visit Tulum, Akamal, Coba during your visit. They have electric trolleys that run constantly throughout the resort on dedicated routes. Usually it takes 10 to 15 mins to get a trolley or less. There are 17 a la carte restaurants and 4 buffet restaurants throughout the complex. Each resort has a show every night and they are all very good. We saw the Circus, Urban, and 80s show[... read more]. Unfortunately we missed the Origin show, book in advance. The food is top notch, well prepared, and very fresh. No one in our group had stomach problems. Hot food is kept hot, cold food is kept cold. The a la carte restaurants have unique menus and excellent service. It is very much a fine dining experience. Foods included seafood raw and cooked, meats of all kinds, cheese and cold cuts, salads, vegetarian meals, Mexican food, Chinese food, Indian food, Japanese food, Italian food, etc.
Bars are everywhere and well staffed. While a tip is not mandatory, staff do appreciate the tips. We tipped at the buffet and a la carte restaurants. We tipped both the waitresses and the bartenders at the bars. Not for every drink, but every so often.
The resort is very well maintained, the pools and grounds are kept clean. Staff are very nice and friendly. Animation staff were plentiful and interacted with guests. The lobbies are beautiful and they have special events for guests in the lobbies. Special foods, special drinks, Superbowl promotions, etc. There are activities for guests throughout the day. If you want to keep busy, they have lots to do. I recommend the bike tour. They even have a dolphin pool where you can swim with the dolphins. It's a nice tourist experience, but keeping dolphins in a pool is not ideal.
I would say this is definitely a premium resort. The guests were all well behaved, no rude or drunk behaviour. Everyone was polite and friendly.
If I had to point out a couple things to improve it would be the 24 snack bars were not well staffed late at night and the rooms, while well maintained, are starting to look a little dated. The hotel opened in 2010 so it may be time for room decor makeovers soon.
Be aware that they are building a 900 km train route near the hotel. It is sometimes noisy even at night. Bring ear plugs if you think it might keep you up at night. The construction has nothing to do with the hotel, it is a government project.
If you plan to swim in the ocean you may want to bring swim shoes to make entry and exit easier. It is a little rocky. No seaweed to speak of and the water was clean and warm.
The bus ride from Cancun was 2 hours including stops. It makes for a long travel day so be prepared.

Playa Mazatlan: Beautiful resort.
It's extremely mobility friendly, even off the resort. One of the cleanest resorts I've been to. Public bathrooms were immaculate. They also have garbage cans everywhere so the hotel remains clean. Staff were wonderful and always helpful. We had an ocean view room, the area is beautiful but bands play on the beach which can be very loud. Of you want quiet, take a pool view room. The buffet is like other buffets. Variety is there but it's a matter of taste. There's always something to eat. We enj[... read more]oyed it there.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Bring your sketchers
Resort is very large. Lots of walking so definitely not for people with mobility issues. Food was ok. Some ala cartes better than others. Grounds are immaculate. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Resort has tons of activities especially for kids and teens. Key cards are a pain. Often did not work. Bracelets would be a huge improvement. Would I stay here again? Only if the price was right.

Catalonia Playa Maroma: Good resort
I enjoyed the Catalonia Playa Maroma. The food was pretty good and service was exceptional. Great beach and lots of sun loungers on beach. We had a privilege superior room and was easy access to beach and pool. The animation team did a great job with lively entertainment. A la cartes were easy to book online but had to book 2 days in advance for some restaurants. Wildlife is abundant and great entertainment. Seemed to be mostly Europeans on resort. Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Cancun by Royalton: Planet Follywood
I will start by saying that you should be wary of a resort whose guest services desk has a stack of Spa coupons and a stack of social medial disclosure waiver forms sitting on it. I rated the resort 3 stars on their app while I was staying there and was immediately bombarded with emails from guest services to meet with them to discuss my concerns. I finally did and was made some pretty incredible promises with the caveat that is sign a form indicating that if I accepted their offer I could not p[... read more]ost a review on social media. Also beware of any promises made. What I was promised, and what what was actually on the form was completely different and certainly not worth it, in exchange for hopefully helping the next traveler by writing this review.
There was some good in the resort. The specialty restaurant food was very good for the most part (if you could get a reservation). But the list of negatives far outweighed any positives. These are my notes from the week.
Gym.
Many days there are no paper towels to clean the machines. Spray bottles that don’t work. No remote for the TVs. Staff didn’t even know there was a rowing machine. Music from whatever activities are going on in what I called the green room so loud that I cannot hear my own music when I’m on the elliptical or the bike in another room. When I asked if they could turn the music down, I was told they would be done in a couple of minutes. My point was, most people have their own music or podcast and don’t need to listen to the music blaring from another room when they’re exercising. Cleaning staff just moving dirt from one place to another. It’s almost farcical to watch them swab the floors with an old rag, and a squeegee. I sweat a lot, and when I wipe the floor after I am done with my machine, the paper towels are filthy, even after they have just been cleaned by the cleaning staff. And to top it all off, they spray some kind of spray on the ground. It almost makes you gag when you’re working out. And another annoying thing was, these ladies are trying to clean machines while people are actually working out on them. I’ve never seen that before in my life. Imagine running on a treadmill when some lady is trying to wipe it down while you’re running on it. Crazy. Sweeping dust off the treadmills with the broom, while people are running. All that dust is going into the air. You can see it in the sunlight. The same as sweeping the floors. All that dust into the air. And if you are really bored you can watch the bugs crawling on the floor
Room.
Takes forever for hot water in the shower. Without exaggeration, it could take five minutes for the water to heat up. Quality of workmanship, everywhere, not just in the room, is somewhat equivalent to an old Cuban resort. Cracks everywhere, paint, peeling, paint, smears, caulking, missing, etc. Cigarette butts in the drain on the deck. No ties for the bathrobes. Can’t get more than two beer in your minibar. On off switches for the electrical system and lights are bizarre. Smoking is not allowed on the decks, but the people beside us were certainly avid smokers. As I speak, I smell cigarettes smoke. When we reported the people they were verbally abusive. They even were using the F word. House cleaning is below average at best. They leave dirty glasses and beer cans on your counters. The occasionally wash the counters, but not every day. Some days they’re dirty from spills and are just left that way. One day we came back to our room and there was broken glass all over the floor in the bathroom. We generally leave a tip every day and expect at least a good average cleaning. Most nicer resorts we’ve been to do a little towel display or something on the bed. Nothing like that here. Oh, and you can’t flush the toilet at night because it sounds like a rifle going off. I’m sure it’s waking up not only our room but the next room below us for sure. Single play toilet paper was a surprise for a five star
Outside
Cobblestone/brick style walkways everywhere. Every day and evening people are pushing carts, the rattling noises from the wheels, the glasses, they’re carrying, etc., is so loud it is unbearable. Have to keep our deck door closed at night so that we limit the noise. Cleanliness of the grounds are debatable. Many times we see garbage, broken dishes, food, etc. laying around. I’ve seen the same pieces of garbage laying on the ground every day for the past week I’m sure 1000 staff members a day take that route and they can’t pick up some small pieces of garbage? Signage could be better for sure.
Pool and beach
Seat. Saving is obviously a big issue. As the week progressed, it got worse. My wife went to the beach this morning around 10:30, there wasn’t a chair anywhere in the adult scene section or anywhere else for that matter. There was nobody out there, but every chair had a towel on it. That’s not right. We pay a lot of money to be able to sit at the beach. The pool water is ice cold. Not comfortable for me at any temperature.
Restaurants
Usual complaints. Telling you there’s no room and you look inside and there’s empty tables everywhere. The buffet is a freaking madhouse most of the time. Its more like a scrum. It needs to be twice the size to accommodate the amount of people. Very unimpressed with the buffet food options. They say you can make reservations at certain restaurants online. Every time we’ve tried it tells us reservations are unavailable for an entire week in advance. Not too helpful if you’re only staying a week. No pizza oven in the Italian restaurant? They had to bring pizza in from another restaurant and it was an hour wait. No beer at all at the Braza restaurant one night. Braza restaurant hit and miss. First time we went there. The food was fantastic. Service was great. Second time we went there. Food was horrible and so was the service. Meat was dry. Salty. Guys burger joint. We’ve been sitting here for 20 minutes and we still do not have anything to drink. They took our order almost immediately for food and we do not have that yet as well. Seriously understaffed obviously.
Bars
Almost every day there’s no regular beer in the morning. Amber beer only. Some bards had no beer at all. Most evenings the outside bar doesn’t have beer on tap. They give you cans of beer that are lukewarm. Some bar staff are so slow it’s hard to comprehend. Others are quite rude.
Steak restaurant
Waited 20 minutes for a beer, finally went outside to the bar, got a beer came back, and my beer still wasn’t here and I don’t see it forthcoming.
Theatre
Seats that are supposed to recline aren’t working. Maybe a half dozen of the 24 recliners actually work. Popcorn is hit and miss. some days there is popcorn some days not. Staff operating the projector could probably use some technical assistance. Many times they would start the wrong movie and let it run for quite some time before realizing the mistake.
Sports bar
The pool table definitely needs to be recovered. There’s no felt left on the felt. It’s like playing pool, on a cotton sheet. That is not stretched properly. Pool cues are all warped. Some don’t even have tips on them.
Overall, I would suggest that here a far superior resort to this one for the same price. The only reason this resort has a 5 star rating is that they attempt buy off anyone who would rate it lower.
