Sonesta Maho Beach: Mixed Reviews Review

The Sonesta Maho Beach resort is beautiful and the beach, pool and of course the show with the planes landing just off the beach was pretty amazing. The only issues came from some of the work still being done to the resort as they come back from Hurricane Irma. We opted for a regular room without a view and that may have been a mistake. Outside of our room on the 6th floor were two extremely loud industrial air conditioners and a new sewage treatment plant. The balcony was rendered unusable  [... read more]by the loud noise and smell of sewage. I am not sure if this is a permanent situation for the hotel but it is something we were not warned about. The staff seemed over worked and were not very friendly, they do not have enough bar staff and it was not unusual for a 10 to 15 minute wait to get a beer. The food was delicious but it was almost impossible to get a booking at one of the two restaurants that take bookings which meant almost all of our meals were at the buffet which was good but pretty much the same night after night. We got what we thought was a really good deal on our trip so we were satisfied with there still being some inefficiencies, however, if these issues are not rectified it would not be worth what I would consider full price for this vacation.

Kunuku Aqua Resort: Could be better

Kunuku Aqua Resort was a mediocre resort. The guests were predominantly dutch and were not welcoming. The grounds were maintained well and was very clean. Our rook was not cleaned properly, the sheets and pillow cases were not changed for our entire stay. Also, toilet paper in the room was not restocked, had to call front desk twice. The food on the resort was the worst I’ve ever had. Curaçao is a very beautiful island, leaving the resort made my trip memorable.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Resort is ok

The hotel grounds, the room and most of the staff were good. Need more food variety at the buffet, especially the fruits.The Chinese a 'la carte was terrible, long wait plus the food trays were left empty for a long time

Sonesta Maho Beach: great resort had a great time

very nice after first day we had to change rooms as our room was not so good we didnt have a balcony but kurt changed our room and after that we were fine the food was good but we had to eat outside a couple of times but other then that it was fine

Zoetry Curacao Resort and Spa: Not bad

We checked into room 37. We liked the looks of the room and were pretty happy. However the next am we woke full of bites. We had a mosquito net and used bug spray. We complained at the front desk and they ended up upgrading us to a suite. The suite was beautiful. We didn’t get any bites after the switch. The pool we knew was going to be renovated the week after so it was understandable that it was not in great shape. The grounds could have used some maintenance as others have pointed out.  [... read more] The small things like landscaping. The prices on food and drink were a little high. The beers anywhere from 6-8USD beer and they are not full sized beers. We sat for a breakfast day one and it was $12.50USD for continental breakfast that consisted of croissant small cup of fruit and dry toast. We didn’t do that again. This resort could have made a lot of money from us in lunches and breakfasts but the fact that that charged this much pushed us to just rent a car and get our own stuff. The beaches that are available for use are very nice and we did enjoy them. After we got settled in and did our own thing we met a lot of great people and some good staff members. If you go into this resort with the expectations of a place to stay with little Ammentiites you will be happy to get away and relax here. We would go back. Momma cita our bartender was pretty awesome and took care of us!!

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Excellent resort

We stayed first week of June, and from the time we got pick up at airport and shuttle to hotel and shuttled back our stay was very pleasant. The beach is spectacular, pool is average, food is great at la carte but buffet needs work, same food almost everyday, lunch at ocean could use some variety, maybe some pizza/nachos/cheese to help yourself instead of waiting 20 minutes for your order. Need pool side music playing all day -Evening entertainment could be better and having disco start so late is ridiculous given all shows over at 9:30.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Resort is good... understanding the circumstances

The grounds and maintenance staff were amazing. Cleaning staff were friendly and the rooms were spotless. Sonesta Maho was very clean. Resort still needs improvement with regards to the restaurants, still under construction. There were not many options available for food and limited coffee options. Overall great beach was great and clean. Resort was understaffed for the number of guests. I would not recommend until this resort is fully completed. Not worth it.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Ok

Beach ok, food was ok, service was unbelievably slow could not believe how slow at bars and restaurants. Rooms were kept clean and basic but fine. People very friendly. Had water dripping in washroom asked three days in row to fix but never did. Nice to go to once but that was enough.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Not great.....

The hotel has done a good job of getting back up and running in such a short time. The grounds look nice and the public areas are kept clean and tidy. We found the food to be very good and we only ate at the buffet. They do a barbecue night on the beach on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Entertainment team did a great job putting on their shows at the casino. The free island bus tour was great. Tito is wonderfully entertaining and very knowledgeable about the island. Excursions were readily a [... read more]vailable, with a good selection of things to do. Unfortunately, Check in was the slowest we've ever experienced. Our flight arrived after in the afternoon and the rooms took another two hours to be ready. We had requested a king bed (we're both tall) and arrived to find that we were in a room with two doubles. Not the end of the world, but I went down to ask if we could change. I was told that they saw my request but since the hotel as full they weren't able to accommodate us. When we went to bed, we discovered that it was going to be very difficult to sleep as our room was outside of the sewage treatment, which has two large processing pumps with giant fans that were loud and our room smelled of sewage. After a bad first nights sleep, I again asked it we could be moved. At this point it's important to note that I wasn't looking for a free upgrade and would gladly have paid to move to a different room. Again, I was told the hotel was full. I believe hotels leave rooms free in case of emergencies (one of the other guests we spoke to were moved after a plumbing issue in their room) and feel that the hotel staff missed an opportunity to help us out which would have gone a long way to make our stay a better experience. We bought ear plugs at the pharmacy and made do. I wasn't willing to spend any more of my vacation time talking with people who clearly didn't want to help. Maid service kept taking our towels even though they were hung up with the intention of using them again and at one point we were left with only one towel and had to go find more. They didn't service our room on the Monday of our stay. The maid showed up at 8:30 pm very put out and asking if we requested service. We did not and I pointed out to her that it had not been done earlier. I've never posted a review before as we're pretty easy going when we travel and generally don't let much get to us but the room issue and their unwillingness to help were very off putting.

Sandals Royal Curacao: Excellent resort and expierence

My family and I recently returned from our stay. We have a 3 year old who travelled with us, and had a great experience at the resort -everything from the beach, to splash pad and restaurants were excellent and exceeded our expectations. The resort in person is even better than in pictures! Staff were amazing as well as the food; certainly worth the 5 star rating. One con was that the water way was very busy on the weekend and also night time, which made our ocean view room a little more nois [... read more]y than expected. The double doors helped with noise inside the room, however a small concession to consider when looking at the amenities, service and overall experience at this amazing resort. We will definitely be back!

Sonesta Maho Beach: Beautifully Modernised.

The hotel renovation is still ongoing but does not affect the guests. Last time I visited this resort was in 2015 and the food was fantastic. The refit is amazing, however the food choice this time is the most restrictive I have ever come across. Salad choices were always a bowl of lettuce leaves, a plate of chopped tomatoes and a plate of sliced cucumber - the same every day. My other negative comment is lack of comfortable seating in the evening. There were sofas in the hotel lobby or two sofas at the rear of the resort by Ocean Point. Activities by the pool were good for the adults and the children's pool slides and club were also excellent. Rooms were excellent as was the bathroom and closets - all brand new.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Great vacation - will be even better in a year!

I think this hotel is great, but it will definitely be better once renovations to it are complete. The beach is beautiful - get there early if you want an umbrella! Staff are friendly and helpful. The food variety is a bit lacking if you have any dietary restrictions (i.e. vegetarian), but you can always find something to eat. The pizza and pasta station are always a good fall-back if the buffet doesn't have anything for you. Sonesta Maho Beach: Great vacation!

I received an amazing deal on this vacation which finally allowed me to visit St. Martin. It’s beautiful, staff is friendly, food is delicious & I think in time the facilities will be back to 5 stars! They have done a great job rebuilding this resort. I will definitely be back.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Very Friendly Resort

We thought the room especially the bathroom were very nicely laid out great rain shower head with TONS of pressure and hot water and well accessorized. Though we had some issues with the lighting it was eventually dealt with. Top notch linens excellent maid service and a very well lite closet but could have used a few more hangers. Staff were all very helpful and welcoming! She also was very help with us and exceeded our needs with my wifes needs. Great experience for sure!!

Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing island and beautiful resort

Considering the hurricane damage that was done to this resort and island we cannot believe how well and how quickly they have rebuilt. Each day we were there we saw and felt the improvements. We would highly recommend this resort and destination!! Our room was great, the dining and food was excellent!

Sonesta Maho Beach: Great Holiday

The renovations to the rooms are wonderful. The food is great and there are a variety of choices to get different options. Once all the renovations are complete it should be close to perfect(elevators still to finish, some toilet issues, towel shortages).

Sonesta Maho Beach: Good trip

We stayed for a week and it turned out to be a good trip. Hotel is beautiful but obviously still under construction. Service was alright at times but usually you were waiting for about 30 minutes for a drink at the bar and most of the time the server was rude. Some were great and very happy to help. Food wasn’t bad but could improve. Not a whole lot of selection at buffet, not enough fruit and not enough food for young kids. Pool was great and beach was amazing!! Sonesta Maho Beach: Sonesta Maho, St-Maarten

Pros - New hotel Cons - Under construction, could have a 2nd pool, food was good but we expected higher end cuisine with the service to match. Summary - In general we were satisfied because of the great price we paid for the trip, St-Maarten has become our favourite destination because of the good food, filtered water that we can count on, the weather, the beaches and the Caribbean Sea. Sonesta Maho Beach: Ok still lots of work to get done !!

Hotel is newly renovated rooms are nice took 3 days to get our air conditioner working and another 3 days to get our shower to stop flooding over from the drain being clogged staff are the restaurant were slow need to ask multiple times for water /cutlery the bars need more bartenders!! The pool needs a good cleaning the coping around the pool is gross and ever day the film on the pool was hanging out in the corner s over all trip was ok still lots of work needs to be done hoping to visit again  [... read more]once they are fully functional

Sonesta Maho Beach: Rebuild is coming along

My husband and I were married at the Sonesta Maho 5 years ago. And it was amazing then. So it would be hard to compare. Overall this vacation was good. There are still small problems they need to resolve which is to be expected. The only hiccup we found was a bit of an ant problem in our room, which unfortunately took a little longer then it should have to be resolved. But ultimately it was resolved after a few phone calls and 3 hours. In a few months this resort will be up to its potential.
