Twelfth Visit

Great resort but is really in dire need of some updating. We have been coming here since 2003 and it has had no updates done at all. If they want to stay in the loop with all the other new resorts they need serious work done at the hotel. The staff there is amazing, they could not have a better bunch of people working for them, they should be very proud of that. Not sure that we will be going back unless they do something. He went above and beyond the call of duty for us. Our friends Luis, Vincente & Christian are fabulous people that work so hard everyday to make everything right for you. The front desk staff were so helpful when I went to them to get access to their internal internet as I had a emergency at home and I needed to get an email back home. The Wifi there is really bad, cannot get a signal most of the time. Overall had a good 2 weeks there. Overall it is a good place to stay but the rooms are in serious bad shape.

Okay But... Not What We Expected

2 Week Vacation. After reading the reviews we expected something very different than what we encountered. The resort itself is very well maintained, rooms clean, and employees we very friendly and helpful. However, public bathrooms were always filthy and smelly. We found the food was okay in the buffet -- enough variety to please most tastes ( we loved the Mexican food) however the a la carte restaurants - not so much. We tried the Italian as well as the Brazilian, and didn't enjoy eit [... read more]her, so didn't bother with the others. We found the meat was over cooked, as well as portions very small. Mind you we're from Vancouver, and have a plethora or truly amazing ethnic restaurants to choose from, so we may be pickier than most. It was also disappointing that there were no snack bars outside, and you are not permitted to take food outside of the available snack bar, or restaurants. We saw one women try and take her food outside the restaurant who was basically scolded by an employee for doing so. When I am having a drink, I enjoy a snack, such as peanuts, or pretzels. There were none - even in the snack OR sports bar. In addition there is no beach drink service, so while there are beach bars - up the stairs from the beach, no one comes down to the beach to serve you - unlike most other resorts we have been to. - The safe is an additional $40. - The wifi is sporadic, and works only in the Sports Bar and the Flamingo Lobby. - No refrigerator in room, so the one bottle of water you get each day - stays warm. I enjoyed seeing the iguanas, who roamed freely about. Would I go again? No. Even as a 3 star, I expected more - and compared to other 3 stars it didn't come close, in my opinion.

Beautiful Complex

It is a well maintained property.The staff is so friendly and helpful.The food is hot and tasty with lots of options.It is not a 5 star but very clean with all amenities.We have stayed here many times and will return at a later date.The small town of Bucerias offers some great dining options.Beach is great for walking with nice sand.I find this resort and area very safe.Hope this helps and I am looking forward to winning a free trip.LOL

Average at best

This was not our first time to the Royal Decameron and if you want average food and drinks this is the place to be. We sent a room request weeks prior to our arrival - not honoured. In order to change rooms you need to be without a room for over 4 hours! They now provide shampoo and conditioner in your room which is new. The employees are always hard at work. The buffet needs to have more variety, the theme nights start to blend together after 2 weeks. Exceeded our expectations!

We were pleasantly surprised on every level! Resort was very clean including our room - No bugs anywhere Buffet and snack bar food was really good overall, fruits and salads were always really fresh A la cart restaurants were excellent! Our favorites were the Thai / Japanese and the Piccolo Italian Service was exceptional everywhere in the resort - the buffets, lounges, bars, a la carts, including booking dinner and the Transat reps . We chose Royal Decameron on its reputation for being friendly and social, both employees and vacationers. Also walking distance to Bucerias (which we also loved), shopping and drinks on the beach. We were in building 3, with an ocean view and close enough to all activities but not to noisy at all. We loved this resort, and would definitely return. It was the best value for our dollar. Great Resort

This resort is a great size, not too big but big enough to have variety in foods, bars, pools etc. Adult only pool gives a quieter location. Yoga on the beach every morning. Great shows at night. Beach is great. Bucerias is so close to walk to and check out all the markets there. Five A La Carte restaurants to choose from. Two buffets. All in all a great location with great value. I would definitely go again.

Loved it'

If you're looking for luxury, this is not your resort. But if you want clean rooms, good food, well kept gardens, pools, beaches and fantastic people, this is the place to go. We loved heading into Bucerias daily as well. We will for sure return!

Horrible

My husband and I booked this resort for our honeymoon, we were told that this resort was fun and the food great. This was highly recommended by travel agents as well as people we mentioned it too. well the food was horrible spent so much money to go out of the resort to eat we could have booked a 5 star. the al la cartes were no better than the buffets. yet we had to wake up for 7 am to book, and can only book 2 at a time. we requested a king size bed and got 2 double beds. went to move the next [... read more] day cause they say we could then were told tomorrow. The drinks were horrible, and only had draft beer. we didn't have a fridge in our room and would only get 1 warm bottle of water a day. people that have been there before many times said the food has gone down hill big time and that they wouldn't go back. I rate this maybe a 3 star. very unsatisfied

Wonderful resort

The Royal Decameron This was our 12th visit It is family friendly The food is varied fresh and interesting The staff are friendly The rooms and grounds are meticulous We have gone with parents in their 80's and babies as young as 8 months We have celebrated a family wedding there The entertainment is talented Love it love it love it

Decameron Resort Bucerias

We booked our trip to Bucerias through an agent with Trip Central - the agent was courteous and efficient. We flew AirTransat to Puerto Vallarta on March 30th. We were to leave at 8 a.m. After boarding the plane, we sat on the runway for one hour and were then told that there was a mechanical problem and we would have to deplane until the problem was fixed. We then sat waiting in the Calgary air terminal until 3:30 p.m. when our plane departed. We were compensated by AirTransat with a $20/ [... read more]each food voucher during the wait and a $100/each coupon on future travel with AirTransat. It was unfortunate that we spent the first day of our vacation in an airport but we were thankful to be safe. I had read numerous reviews of the Decameron Resort prior to booking and based on noise concerns from previous customers, I requested at time of booking with the Trip Central agent, not to be housed in complex 3 or 5 during our stay. On arrival to the Decameron Resort, we were told our room was in complex 5. At this time, we verbalized our previous request of not being in complex 5 and were told there was no choice. We went to our room in complex 5 (it was now 9:30 p.m.) and found our entry door directly facing the disco and live entertainment show which was currently in progress. The volume of noise was unbelievable - it was loud in the room with the door closed, TV and noisy AC unit going. As we had been up since 5 a.m. and were now looking for rest, we returned to the hotel desk and requested (very politely, I might add) to change rooms. We were then moved to complex 3. If we thought in complex 5 that we couldn't be closer to the disco and noise, we were wrong as our new room was worse. We were keep awake until 1 a.m. by the noise from the show and disco and were less than impressed with our first day of our trip and with the staff at the hotel desk who clearly placed us in a room worse that before. I might add that a key reason we did not want a noisy room is that we have a child. We ended up moving rooms again 2 days later, which wasted more of our vacation time with having to pack up our room and have luggage at the front desk at 11 a.m. and then return at 3 p.m. to be given keys to new room. One female desk clerk who seemed to be in charge, was less than accommodating, never cracked a smile and appeared burnt out. She's clearly working in the wrong profession. Apart from our noisy room, the Decameron served our basic needs. It is a clean, no frills hotel. The food is adequate. The drinks are served in very small, probably four oz, plastic cups and also very basic (no fresh fruit). The majority of the staff are friendly and accommodating. Our favorite part of the resort is the fantastic beach front. We will not be going back to the Decameron because they did not honor our one and only request and did nothing to try and rectify our problem and offered no apologies in the end. Our advise to anyone going to the hotel - flash dollars with any requests.

Might be our last trip

This was our 16th trip to the Royal Decameron Complex in Bucerias. In the past, we have always rated the place quite high. However, there have been a few subtle changes. One of the buffets is closed approximately every second night, leaving less choice. The selection in the buffets is becoming smaller, and is noticeably slanted to Mexican clientele. English is being used less frequently by animation staff and at the night show. Maybe it's just time for a change.

Relaxation at its finest:)

Really enjoyed our stay. Hotel was clean. Staff friendly and large enough to give us a variety for the 9 night stay. Highly recommend paying extra for the Temazcal.....sweat lodge with Mayan Shamans......an amazing healing experience. Food was great. Resort offers quiet Adult only options as well as more lively music options good for the whole family. Something for everyone here. U won't go wrong on this one.

Completely satisfied

Every area of resort was easily accessible, the layout was set up nicely lots of pools to swim in as well as the ocean. Food was great and always available when hungry, and the drinks plentiful. Will be going again next year, and it is a short ride from the airport. Servers where also very friendly and easy to get alone with.

Wonderful resort!

This hotel is very homey with very friendly staff. The rooms are clean. With the adult pool you have the choice of kids or no kids. There are 2 buffets and 5 restaurants for dinners and 3 buffets and 2 snack bars for lunch.

Excellent as always!

This was not our first visit to the RDC and as always we were not disappointed. The grounds and facility were impressively kept, always clean. We were travelling with 2 children and needed extra drawers in our room. We asked for an extra dresser and it was delivered within hours. The staff are always friendly and willing to go the extra mile. I forgot my beach towel in the buffet restaurant one morning (big no no!) I went back that night to see if they had it and was disappointed that the [... read more]y did not. But the next morning when we were there for breakfast the hostess appeared at our table with my towel! Super happy that they found it as I didn't want to pay the fee to replace it and super impressed that they recoginized me. Food and drinks were good, there is something for everyone. This was our first time travelling with our two grandchildren 8 & 10 years old and they had a fabulous time. The RDC is definitely the place to take kids! We will return again!

Very Comfortable Resort

Excellent location.Easy access to the town centre.Grounds were very well kept.Staff were very courteous and helpful.Cusine provided lots of choices and variety Rooms need to be upgraded,have wireless internet and provide a safe without extra charge

A vibrant complex

Lots of activities for all ages led by a group of high energy young people. Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Beautiful grounds. Happy to see so many young kids. Enjoyed the a la Cartes as well as the buffets. Evening shows were entertaining. A safe environment.

Worfthless instructions

We asked for ground floor room numbers 5101 to 5106. We advised that we were taking a wheelchair. At checkin, we repeated the above. They gave us 5108 which as a ground floor room (up on a hill) but required 7 or 8 steps to get there. No elevator. Took two hours and the generousity of strangers to change rooms with us. Either you people are not getting through to them or they just ignore what you send to them. This is our 6th visit to Royal Decameron. Seems it doesn't mean anything to [... read more] them.
