Better than expected

Although we arrived late, there was food available and drinks. Check in was efficient, and we were in our room 20min. after arriving. The rooms were a bit dated for sure, but they had all the necessarys, and the ac worked fine. The only downer was the bed itself, extremely uncomfortable! So we slept a lot on the beach, ha! Never a problem with beach chairs or poolside, as amatter of fact there was never a crowd really anywhere, very chill. Staff here, are the best I've experienced, at any resort [... read more]! The food was not great, but were able to find enough to sustain ourselves. Definitely worth going into Veradero for a meal or two. Havana is must see, but bring a lot of small coin or bill, as everyone seems to need a tip. The resort grounds were beautiful and well kept as were all the facilities. Average age at this resort was 50+.

Relaxing Vacation

This resort is great if you love golf and relaxing in the sun. It's a more mature resort but always a good time. Food isn't the greatest but that's Cuba. Book your a la carte and stick to the pasta and bread in the buffet and you'll be fine. Been there twice and would go back again

Superclubs Breezes Varadero

This has been our fourth trip to Breezes Varadero since 1999. We have been to 19 other resorts across the caribbean but none have compared to this jem of a resort. The staff are fabulous and go out of there way to make sure your happy. The resort itself is so lush and beautiful, small enough to get anywhere you may want to go in just a few minutes. Very quiet

Staff is awesome ...grounds are nice ...rooms are very outdated ...not much going on ...you have to entertain yourself ...If you want to go somewhere very quiet this is the place to go ....close to town ....across from the golf course ...

Second Time to Breezes Varadero

We enjoyed our second visit to the Breezes Varadero Resort. The rooms are large and clean. The grounds and the beach are beautiful. The food is typical for Cuba. We like all the areas to sit for a quiet drink in the evening.

Cuba Love

Spent March 13-20 at Breezes Varadero and had a fantastic time! The hotel itself is a little tired and desperately in need of a coat of paint, which included our hotel room. I found our room dirty - nothing the cleaning staff could do would make it better - it needs a reno. Shelf in shower falling down, stained mirrors, floors and counter tops. I was a disappointed with the room considering I was there for my 50th birthday - which we told our travel agent - and still was put into a very dirty room. Hotel was full - there was no moving. That said, we still had a fantastic time! The weather was perfect - hot and sunny everyday and we spent everyday on the beautiful beach, it was heaven. We spent our evenings on the patio of the Lobby Bar. We met so many lovely people - it was a lot of fun. You may notice I haven't mentioned the food - no need. This is Cuba. You do not come for the food. The grill by the beach which was run by the grill master Carlos was great. Don't think it was so much the burgers and hot dogs as it was Carlos - he was great. They also had 1 beach bbq for lunch one day, I really enjoyed that. We ate lunch everyday on the beach, as it should be! On our last night we did go into Varadero City to a restaurant called The Waco Club. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone who need a break for the resort food. I would also recommend The Beatles Bar in Varadero City - no cover - outdoor show - Cuban bands covering great Rock 'n Roll Music. A great time!!! Would also like to mention the one day tour into Havana. A must do if you have never been there before. Our Transat representative booked it for us with a company called Cubatur. Our guide Raffy was FANTASTIC! He taught us so much about his country and people we came home with a much better understanding and appreciation for Cuba and it's wonderful people. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. I wasn't impressed with the pool area which is ok, my husband and I are beach people. All in all, we love Cuba, we loved the beach and the night life but did not love the hotel. But we did meet many people who return year after year....their rooms were much nicer than ours. I want to recommend this hotel - fight for a nicer room.

Nice resort, food needs a lot to be desired

We were warned that you do not go to Cuba for the food, but this is ridiculous. It's not that they do not have different foods; they simply do not know how to prepare it. Considering how well educated the populace is, I do not understand how they cannot read a couple of basic cookbooks to figure out how to prepare meals. Even if it is not part of their culture, they are offering a whole experience to people, and part of this experience is the food. They should make the effort. While I would go b [... read more]ack for the relaxation aspects of the holiday, my wife would probably not go back because a week with substandard food does not make for an enjoyable vacation. By the way, I am from St.Lucia, a poor country based on tourism and I can say that the food is excellent there, so this issue has nothing to do with poverty or lack of resources. Read some cookbooks or hire some chefs!

Very limited choice at the buffet

It is our 4th times in Cuba and our expectation for food was low . We eat to survive and we are not fussy eater. When there is not even lettuce in a buffet, that is how bad it was. The a la carte menu were not better. It would compare this hotel to a Dominican Republic hotel 25 years ago.

Beautiful location and an amazing resort!

We've traveled to numerous destinations for our hot destination and Breezes Varadero was by far our favourite. While it wasn't the most built up resort when compared to Mexico or Dominican, it had a comforting feeling like we were at home. The room were clean, food decent, and staff beyond friendly and willing to help. The resort by far has the best beach I have been too, all in close proximity to Varadero for night time fun. Highly recommended!

Great resort !!

We had a great time, staff was super nice and food was good I mean some things weren't that great but its cuba so we didn't go there with high food expectations! midnight buffet wasn't good wish they had better options! Beach was beautiful and big! Quiet resort if you're looking for the young party crowd this isn't the resort for you the age group seems to be 40+ which I mean wasn't bad because it was a peaceful sleep & the hot tub by the bar was always free in the evening! no discoteca on resor [... read more]t for that reason I'm assuming. Prices for their excursions were reasonable had an amazing time on all of those! Going back in 2016 to this resort too!

Excellent Resort

We booked and stayed at Breezes Jibacoa beginning Feb 28, 2015. Upon arrival at the airport in Veradero at 6:30pm, we easily found our van and driver that was there to take us to the resort. We quickly found out that pedestrians do not have the right away! It was a short 45 minute ride to the resort. Upon arrival at the resort we were greeted by a very friendly lady at the front desk, who said 'Welcome Home'! Check-in was very easy, taking only minutes, I am sure it helped that we were the only [... read more] guests arriving at that time. The bellman quickly took us to our room, showed us around the room, light switches and how to operate the air conditioner, making sure we were comfortable before leaving. Our room was fabulous, very clean and in excellent repair. We paid for an ocean view upgrade, the view was absolutely stunning and only steps from the beach. We were in building 10 (2176), top floor (2nd floor) in a corner unit. Our only minor complaint may have been the loud air conditioning unit on the building next to us. A small coffee pot was supplied in the room, we loved being able to get up in the mornings and have coffee on our patio with a view. Our chambermaid, Alyse, was incredible. Friendly, welcoming, accommodating and very grateful (without expectation) for the small gifts of pecos, clothing, perfume, personal items, toys etc. that we left daily. It seemed that our comfort and enjoyment was a priority for her. The resort was quite small, easy to get around to anything, we loved it. The grounds very nicely maintained, the gardening staff as friendly and helpful as any other staff there. It is in a very safe country area, totally safe to leave and walk around outside the resort, the farmers and locals exceptionally friendly. Many area residents had tables set up in front of their homes selling jewelry and different souvenirs. A couple of the homes had small restaurants set up at the front of them, great food. We enjoyed a night of lobster and shrimp dinner with one of those locals named Armando. When we first arrived we found the evening buffet food horrible, stone cold and tasteless. However, the food at the beach bar was very good, we had lunch there each day. The waiters there were awesome! Breakfast was always good, an incredible guy making omelettes and eggs to order. After our second day there, we noticed several 'official' looking new faces running around the resort, carrying papers and on cell phones. We heard from other guests that the resort had been sold and was taken over by 'Memories', which is owned by Sunwing. I did speak to one of the ladies after a much improved buffet dinner, she told me she was from Montreal, Canada and was there to improve the food and resort, she was glad we saw improvement in the food and would pass the message to the chef's, stating they had brought in a new chef from another resort. We were happy that she appeared to be very nice and friendly not just to guests but also to the existing staff. Another skinny little fellow with glasses that was with her a lot (they appeared to be a team), didn't seem so nice to the staff, and paid no acknowledgement to the guests. We would often see him gesturing to the waiters, waitress's and other staff to smile. He would have done well to lead by example and smile himself. The beach area was very nice, somewhat rocky in some areas. The days we spent there was very windy, mostly starting around noon. The best time for snorkeling or swimming was in the mornings. Once the wind came up there was MANY jelly fish, Man of War, washing up onto the beach. We saw many people who were stung, the resort nurse rushing them into the hot tub, apparently warm water stops the stinging and pain. The one life guard was kept busy trying to get people out of the water. They would warn people over the loud speaker that the jelly fish were coming. You could actually see them glistening in the sunlight on top of the water, coming towards shore, their sails being blown by the wind. A highlight of our trip was a ride in an old car for a day tour of Old and New Havana, and other attractions in Havana. We got hooked up for this by one of the staff at the resort. It cost us only 70 pecos for a driver and an English speaking personal tour guide. They made our day amazing and we would highly recommend. On our 3rd day, we were approached by the resort staff to take an offer of going to another 'Memories' resort in Veradero, it would be beautiful they said. We declined, as we liked our resort and area very much. They said that this was a special offer, only available now to us because of the new affiliation with Memories/Sunwing. They said it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and at no charge. The following day they began to pressure us more, approaching us several times. Later that evening they intensified the pressure, asking us again and again to please consider moving to another resort and help them out as they had overbooked the resort. Again they promised how wonderful it would be, and everything would be taken care of including transfers there to the new resort and then to the airport to catch our flight. Unfortunately in hind sight, we accepted their offer of an even better experience. That is where our trouble began. We packed up and left the next day. In addition to us, there were about 6 or 8 other guests who also took the offer. We were loaded onto a bus and transported to Memories Resort in Veradero. The moment we stepped off the bus we all knew that we had made a mistake. It was a horrible experience from start to finish, and not a nice way to complete the vacation. The staff at Jibacoa would do well to understand where they are sending their guests, then they might not do it.

Fantastic Vacation !

Our stay was over all pretty amazing . Grounds were beautiful lush tropical plants , buffet was really good and one night there was a lobster feast . Also crab and prawns every night . Entertainment was pretty good , 24 hr sandwich bar a burger/hot dog hut during the day (burgers are the bomb!). The discotecca was the highlight , had a blast there!!! . Coffee shop was delicious with the Spanish coffee and coffee with Catalana (baileys type liquor). The only negative to the resort was there isn't [... read more] a lot of communication with tourists about times of events also there was no bell boy to help us or show us to our room .buy a phone card before travelling as they only sell them downtown town and they were sold out . It was hard contacting our family to let them know we arrived alive!. Over all I was extremely happy with the resort !

Mattress completely worn out which wore on us by day 7 staff awesome resort needs some tlc and would return Have to do something about all the birds in buffet while standing in line the sparrows were on edge of grease hood relieving them selfs into the cooked pastas I just pretended I was at picnic but the amount of birds was a bit too much

Good smaller resort

Property: The location of the hotel was very convenient for golf or reaching the village and the delightful Josone Park (quite walkable, by road or via the beach, but there is plenty of various types of transportation at 3-5 pesos). Greetings and check-in were pleasant. This is a compact hotel with reasonably well tended grounds, though it's a shame that the main buffet restaurant did not have an inspiring view, e.g. gardens/beach/sea, and the darkness in some areas of this large room was not in [... read more]viting. The lobby was small as was the attached (overworked|) bar and so not conducive to a larger gathering. The single pool has no swim-up bar and "unreserved" lounges were at a premium, however there was afternoon entertainment and activities. Room: Plenty of hot water and good pressure. We were told we could drink the water. We had a garden view suite which was clean, large with large balcony and quiet. It had two large closets but would have been a little better if there were more shelving/drawers. Services: The staff varied between appearing very happy and welcoming to those less motivated. In particular, we had sometimes very good and other times curt service at the front desk and the maid service could have been better. Serving staff were good and pleasant and the front line staff had good english, and from what I gathered, good french. The large buffet room (with small stage for evening shows) was not well laid out and the servers were kept running to cover the ground between the drinks bar and the tables. I was pleased to see that one day the hotel give a large party for the staff with food and entertainment in one corner of the property. The hotel did not seem to go that step further to achieve superior service, e.g. no refill of any room consumables (fridge or coffee/tea maker) and no apparent beach or pool assistance / service for lounges or drinks. It didn't help that the wi-fi wasn't working so we trekked to the nearby Bella Costa hotel to use it (when flight was delayed by 12 hours). In general, tips seemed expected. Entertainment: I can't comment on the disco - didn't go. The nightly shows in the buffet room or pool area were well done with the talented artistes working very hard. We particularly enjoyed the various excellent musical groups in the restaurants and buffet. Food: While the a la carte restaurants had nice ambiance and good service, the food was unexceptional. The buffet however was good with surprisingly tasty food served hot. The snack bar in the lobby only seemed to offer rather dry plain ham and cheese sandwiches. One of the outstanding areas was the (specialty) coffee bar which had excellent coffee and inviting surroundings. Overall: On re-reading this review, perhaps I've been over-critical as none of the criticisms really affected our very pleasant stay. Overall however: good location and grounds, very accessible beach, good food, good entertainment and mostly good service. I would certainly recommend it.

Great golf, great staff

We have just returned from our TENTH visit to Breezes Varadero. It is like homecoming at every visit. Extremely friendly staff. A wide variety of rooms, so choose the suites. Very good air-conditioning. Minibar with complimentary water and for the first time, initial complimentary beer(2) and soft drinks(4). Both 110V and 220 V outlets, so no problem with converter plugs. Maid service was very good. New entertainment program with several spectacular, colourful shows from 9-10pm. There is no doub [... read more]t that one must be cautious with the foods, but from our ten years of experience, we have found the breads to be unbelievably fresh (made on site), ice creams are creamy with just the right amount of sweetness, local batter-fried fish are excellent, and the hamburgers at the grille near the beach are wonderful. Pastas are always a safe bet, but the tomato sauce is bland and needs to be spiced up according to one's taste. The main reason for our returns is the excellent arrangement the resort has with the nearby golf club. Green fees, morning pick up and after golf drop off very near the gates of the hotel can be arranged. The trip to the clubhouse is only a few minutes and even with a generous tip to the shuttle driver from the golf course, transportation to and from Breezes is much cheaper than more distant hotels.

Quiet...Not Bad

Just got home from Breezes Varadero. Everything was clean, gorgeous beach, decent entertainment at night, people are great. Always chairs available at the beach and the pool. Our gardenview room had a separate small bedroom so was very nice for 2 singles. The food was just okay, but you shouldn't be going to Cuba for the food. I don't know if a 5 star in Cuba would maybe have better. We found the resort very quiet and not much in the way of activities. It did not have the constant Cuban music bl [... read more]aring all the time which was nice, but the scheduled aqua classes and stuff didn't seem to happen, likely because of lack of interest. I think there may have been a number of repeat people and older people staying for a longer period. Likely not the best place for young people looking to party. We had a delay getting home, and that seems to be an issue with Cuba, but this time it was a mechanical failure on the plane.

Older but friendly!

The Veradero Breezes certainly has impressive grounds,a great beach area,and unique architecture and infrastructure ! The friendly staff exudes genuine care for the guests. However, competence is a bit limited in the details. This hotel probably offered a four star experience some time ago, but is now slipping somewhat, with old and broken chairs abandoned on the beach, apparently unrepairable TV remotes, tiny,flickering TV screens, rusting shower heads, portruding mattrass springs etc. Neverthe [... read more]less still charming like a good humoured aged debutante with her toiletry neglected.

Over Rated Hotel

The hotel was dated, falling apart. Plates and cutlery in dining room never really clean. Some staff members rude and uncaring. Food was same every day in buffet, never changing it up. This hotel at best is a 3 star maybe even a 2-1/2 star.

Disappointing

Upon arrival, room key didn't work. 3 hours later, finally got in room. Staff surly unless they get tipped. Food mediocre at best. However, layout of resort is great. If you have mobility issues, don't go. Many steps.
