Amazing Resort with great room, food and entertainment!

Overall, it is an amazing resort with kids friendly pool. Our whole family enjoyed tremendously, see below review on the different areas. Public Areas: Very nice lobby and we were greeted for check-in fairly quick. Other public areas are nice and very clean with lots of wildlife especially the iguanas that the kids all enjoy watching. Food: Food is excellent, the buffet provides a variety of food which you will not be bored. You can even try the nearby Tulum Resort's buffet if you want eve [... read more]n though the one in Coba is actually bigger. Room: Room is quite big and the beds/pillows were comfortable. They provided a security lock at free of charge which you can lock in valuable items. Pools: There are 2 main pools for adults and kids, 1 for adults only and the other one is for kid. All nice and clean and kids definitely love all the different water slides they could get on to. Beach: Beach unfortunately is a bit disappointing as there are lots of seaweed throughout the whole week we stayed. We heard from the staff that it usually lasts a few weeks, but they don't know why this time around, it has been lasted for months. The shore was covered literally with green seaweed that makes it unpleasant to swim even though the resort has been cleaning like crazy since the morning. But Mother Nature definitely wins in the end and they were only able to clean specific areas but even then they cannot get rid completely all of them but at least it's acceptable. It is my first time in Mexico and I can only speak to this particular Grand Bahia Principe resort that includes Tulum, Coba and Akumal... The beach is quite rocky meaning that there are quite a lot of rocks that you would stepped on which at times, hurt my feet. For some reason, the luxury resort Akumal does not have seaweed at all in their area which makes me wonder why... but for Coba and Tulum, lots of seaweed and rocks. Definitely recommend Dominican Republic or Cuba as they have much nicer beaches.

40th Birthday

Clean, great food, welcoming staff. I had a blast! Entertainment staff kept the party going! Shows in the theatre we’re awesome! Great place for families and adults. Definitely going back ASAP! Huge resort with lots to do, even in a budget.

Amazing family vacation

This was our second time here at coba.still have nothing bad to say about this resort.still as good as it was last time we went.going back again next May.only thing was the water at beach was crapy this time but no fault of the resort.just mother nature

Wonderful resort

The grounds, buildings and rooms are well kept and cared for. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Very easy to get around resort with their trolley system. Activities at pools and nightly at resort and Hacienda were great. Very relaxing vacation.

Super resort

Had a wonderfully time this is our 3rd time to Bahia, food and drinks are great. Staff very nice and friendly, room super clean,grounds very well kept. The staff work so hard to keep the beach clean due to the seaweed global problem. Will return in the future.

Coba 2018

this has been our 5th trip to the Gran Bahia Principe Coba.....the resort is one of our favorites, the staff, the entertainment staff, the grounds, the food....top notch....rooms are large and very accomodating for any size family....a la cartes are worth every booking...make sure you try them all....the main buffet has enough to chose from you do not know where to begin, for breakfast lunch or dinner...good luck....you will not leave hungry at all....the pools are fantastic, atmosphere for ever [... read more]y traveller young or old, and a great area for the kids......the beach is lovely, you can walk for miles, the swimming is great when cleared of seaweed.........and the weather is always sunny....enjoy you will not regret it!!! Another stay at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba

On my last visit to the Grand Bahia Principe Coba three years ago this resort was stellar, thus the reason I had decided to return for second visit. We had no issues with Trip Central or Air Transit...all employees were very pleasant and helpful. The flight was fine both ways. The bad: My second experience this time was just okay, we noted a lack of care this time...just little things, however, those little things made you feel welcomed last time like towel art, turn down service and little  [... read more]notes left by the cleaner to say thank you for the gratuity and to enjoy our night. When we booked I advised that my Mother was 75 and had mobility issues...we needed a lower floor as there are no elevators in the buildings. I even mentioned it again in an email sent a week prior when reserving our restaurant choices. Without any consideration for an older person having to walk up and down three flights of stairs several times a day, we were assigned a third floor room. I insisted on a lower floor and was told we would need to wait until 4 pm to get into our room which when we did arrive we did not have any of our upgrades. I purchased the golden package same as last time, however, I had to ask for the upgrades like blue towels in room, robes and slippers. I even had to ask for our free bottle of tequila and there wasn't any turn down service provided even after I noted it as being part of the package. The floor in our room was never cleaned during the time we stayed in the room, there was a sticky spot on the floor which remained there until we left. The coffee maker was full of dust. The building corridor and stairs were never swept or mopped, there was the same clump of hair sitting on the stairs for the week. I mentioned this to Daniel and Omar at customer relations and I was told we would have a deep cleaning of our room for two days, however, this didn't happen and there was never any follow up to ensure the work had been done. There really is no way to explain how bad the beach areas are unless you see them for yourself. The smell of dead fish is so strong and the mounds of seaweed are never ending each day along the shore line throughout the whole strip of the resort. We gave up on the beach areas. This of course is not the resorts fault as they are constantly trying to clean up the mess, however, the seaweed just keeps coming on shore on-stop. Who wants to sit in a lounge chair with piles of stinky seaweed all around them while you smell dead fish and a loud bull dosser is puttering in front of you with gas smell...there were bugs flying around while you are trying to relax...it was totally gross. I hope for the resorts sake that this issue clears up soon. If you are a beach lover I don't recommend going to the Mayan area until this issue clears up unless you are a pool person and then there are plenty of pools to satisfy. Playa Del Carmen beach area was worse when we went for the day. The good: We made the best of our vacation even though there were things that were not so great. The resort still has the same great facilities, entertainment and the food is really exceptional. The workers really work hard in all they do...they should be tipped when you feel they have provide a good service as they depend on tips as part of their pay. We especially enjoyed the Kukulcan buffet as they have so much variety and the food is so fresh. Our two favorite restaurants were the Mediterranean and Le Gourmet restaurants. The staff were amazing...a special hello to Angel our server in the Le Gourmet he was so friendly. The only excursion we did during our trip was the jewelry and tequila factory excursion. This is a free trip sponsored by the jewelry company which they take you on a tour of their shop which is stunning and show you their jewelry and wares. There is no pressure to buy although I purchased a gorgeous necklace with a stone that changes colour in different lighting. At the Tequila Factory we sampled many different tequilas...the coconut tequila is the best in our opinion...a must try...I believe it was $48 USD to buy a bottle. The coffee tequila was good too. A special hello goes out to David who assisted us with the tasting he was so friendly and knowledgeable. They take you to both facilities and then to Playa Del Carmen where you have two hours to shop and look around. They pick you up at a designated spot which is a restaurant. The free appetizers offered are so good...there a must try as well. The servers are super friendly. It was so hot outside on the day we went, we tried to stay in the stores as long as we could until the two hours was up. All in all it was a great trip. I think next time I vacation I will try a new resort with a great beach...somewhere new.

Nice Resort

Staff here are wonderful, hard working, friendly, helpful! Rooms were very nice, clean, stocked. Grounds were well taken care of - beautiful! Pools were nice. It was a large resort and the trolley system worked well, not too many times did we have to wait long to get to were we wanted to go. Food was good! Entertainment was good! Beach was not so good! We stayed in the Coba so had to take the trolley down to the beach, which was not a problem at all - however, we found the beach very nar [... read more]row, was angled so made it difficult for walking and there were days you couldn't even see the water through the seaweed. Mind you the staff there worked so hard every day to clear the seaweed, there was just so much of it at the time of our stay! We wish there were more activities to do on your own, such as a pool designated for volleyball - they had volleyball everyday but there were so many people playing that we did not join in for that. Basketball courts, maybe tennis courts would be great! and areas with tables that people can go to and play games or cards throughout the day would be great as well - we found the lobby not to accommodate this. Overall our vacation was very good, weather was wonderful - hot, sunny - just what we were looking for!

Lovely resort!

My suite was beautiful....the only down fall was there were no screen on the sliding door to the balcony but other than that it was very nice. I loved the pools and the food was great too! I was disappointed with the beach....too rocky and too much seaweed but other than that it was really good.

Amazing resort

Beautiful spot .The grounds were perfectly groomed. The look after everything. You real didn't need upgrade because all bars had good name brands .That Bahia still is the only one with mini bar fridges that has chips and chocolate bars in it .

14th Time at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba, Mexico

This is a very beautiful resort. My wife and I returned for our 14th time in early April of this year. The staff are very pleasant, the food is outstanding, the beach is beautiful, there is dancing or a floor show most evenings and the weather is really great. When the fall/ winter arrives every year here in Nova Scotia, we immediately begin to make plans to visit our "Home away from Home" in sunny Mexico at the Coba!

First Class Incredible Resort

This amazing resort has very well kept beautiful grounds that are worked on every day to maintain a fresh & beautiful look. The rooms are well appointed that have been newly painted since last year. Fresh bottled water was always supplied in our room & a well stocked bar .. The bathroom was cleaned daily with fresh towels and toiletries. Fantastic Resort

This resort was absolutely amazing! The best part was the fantastic friendly and helpful staff, from the reception to the waiters to bellboys and maids! The rooms were clean and neat! The resort was full of things to do. There is shopping, a casino, bars, beaches, pools, water sports, a dolphinarium...to mention a few! I would go back in a heartbeat! Not a wow ,but good services ,good variety of food and drinks Beach is the worse I ever seen until now,stones ,rocks and weeds everywhere ,smelly like a portable toilet ,machines and workers on the beach the whole day feels like a construction site not a relaxing beach .Awful Entertainment on the beach nonexistent

The staff is not the problem here, the concept and management are. In our 7 days stay we met and talked to 4 Americans, 4 from England, 2 from NB Canada, 2 from Grandby Qc (one of which slipped and fell and hurt herself on wet floor in room), a family from Ontario (another who twisted her ankle on side walk), one woman from Gaspésie Qc, all of these people said they will never go back to Mexico. We met 4 more from NB and did not ask their opinion as they were happily drunk for the most part. Day 1 Arrival was without major incident. We waited more than we should have in the bus at the airport. Learned mid-way in route that it was because of 4 missing passengers and that they had been detained at customs for bring cigars into Mexico. Check in ok, bags no problems. It's about 3pm, Ok now try to find your room. Room number has 5 digits, 32032, building has another set of single or double digit, 3. All this is explained and written on your key card pouch. NO ONE TELLS YOU THAT EACH BUILDING HAS 2 SIDES IDENTICFIED BY A or B. And you can't just cut across the building …. oh no,,, you have to walk around it. Building signage …. good one side only and small print. You have to walk close to it to see the fine print of your 5-digit room number and then look at the other side of said sign for the building # and the A or B. Then you spend the next 2 or 3 days trying to find yourself using the 5-inch square map they provide shows somewhat the roads but then overlapped by square blocks to show you where the Lobbies are. Magnifying glass not included and North is at about 50 degrees east. Day 2 Get lost. Return to where you think you come from. Get lost again. Recognize 2 sets of large water tanks laying on their sides and these become your road beacons. Thank you, Tanks, day or night I can see, you and feel safe knowing I am on my way to my room. Cafeteria. Few if any tables are ready. Seems low on staff. Not very organized. Foods was consistent and good all week. Find one of 3 pools. Although the third is located near my tank beacon and I call this one the small pool with large bar. Full size bar for about 20 people pool capacity. Afternoon we want to find beach. Take shuttle service as it would take about 30 minutes' walk each way in 32 degrees Celsius. The beach..... well.... it is man made for the most part, with break water cement barriers creating a series of ponds where sea algae collect's and brave staff work to remove every day and where you are expected to swim as the rest is roped off for your own protection. Even by Toronto standards this hardly qualifies as a beach at a 5-star resort. Day 3. Don't get lost, find your way and even learn shortcut to pool of your liking. Service at breakfast is the same. Often no one to greet you at the entrance door and sometimes no hand disinfectant either. Stay at poolside and sun bade. Entertainment evening show.... He's bad, He's bad....Michael Jackson ladies and gents. 6 dancers on stage 3 new how to dance 3 had learned the steps. Day 4 Don't get lost, find your way and even learn shortcut to pool of your liking. Service at breakfast is the same. Stay at poolside and sun bade. Entertainment evening show looks like karaoke not very good at all. Mostly can't hit the notes. Day 5 Don’t get lost, help people who are lost. Service at breakfast is the same. Stay at poolside and sun bade. Magic show... I hear it was nice …. it lasted about 45 minutes. Get ready for bed, turn lights out, 15 minutes later water can be heard dripping on the floor. I see it comes from the ceiling and we are on the top floor. The AC is leaking, floor extremely slippery. Call front desk and problem solved in about 30 minutes. Day 6 Don’t get lost, help people who are lost. Service at breakfast is better, even management is pitching in. Stay at poolside and sun bade. Day 7 Heavy rain and lightning for most of the afternoon. Lightning causes a few power failures. AC in our room does not recover from power failure and does not cool any longer. Service man came fast but was more interested by the movie playing on our TV than resolving the issue. We used the ceiling fane that night.

Beautiful

Very nice, staff are friendly. Rooms are spacious, but need some upgrades. Food was good, at night you have to wait longer for the trolley to take back to ur room. Beach is far u need to take the trolley. Akumal is a better resort with better amenities. Closer to the beach and pool.

3 resorts in 1

Very large resort. A la cartes were awesome! Excellent shopping within the resort. Lots of walking as it is very spread out. Very disappointed with the beach and the fact we could not order room service.

No Hot water leaking ceiling and many more problems with this place

Paid extra for gold upgrade didn't get any of the benefits ie cooler was supposed to b stocked daily had call them most days it never got done , no hot water for days, leaking ceiling, bed was worn out barely had any sleep didn't get daily service to make the beds mgmt didn't care at all a horrible stay room was very stuffy no ventilation even in Cuba this would have been a 1 star

Didn't get what expected

I’m very upset and disappointed with our stay in Mexico. We didn’t get the family suit in Coba resort that we paid for and were transferred to Tulum without any reasonable explanations or excuses. Check-in time took us three hours. We came from Calgary and were wearing our sweaters and boots, and nobody even offered a glass of water. Two rooms that we’ve got in Tulum were separated by the door, and we called numerous times to have it open. Conditioner in room #1703 was not working. They [... read more] left in the room two welcome gifts: 1 tshirt and 1 hat in each, so we got 2 tshirts and 2 hats but we have 3 kids. Why would you send two welcoming gifts to a family with three kids? The little one never got his, and was very upset. We asked for the third gift several times, but never received it. When I booked that trip I asked for a beach that suitable for children. However, we had to stay by the pool all the time, as ocean is full of rocks and a sea weed. And since we didn’t get our suit close to a water park, we had to get a transportation every time to get there. Additionally, room service was very poor (lack of toiletries, snack bar replacement, cleanless) I’ve tried to reach the agent a few times but never heard back. I feel that I was mislead and never got a service that I was promised and paid for. I’m seeking for some sort of compensation for lack of value and service.

Great resort

The staff, food, grounds and drinks were great.. We will be returning next year.met great people from all over the world. Bartenders Ivan and Alejandro at the club golden deserve a round of drinks on us. Thanks Coba staff see ya next year.
