Brisas Los Galeones: RELAXING

We stayed here for two weeks in November. It was a nice change from a larger resort. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Rooms were always clean, food was great with lots of choices at all meals.there was a shuttle to another resort 3 times a week which offers a change of scenery .we also ventured into Sanitago de Cuba which was very enjoyable. all in all a very nice vacation .

Brisas Los Galeones: Great little resort!

Quiet, clean and very private! Lots of stairs, but the exercise was good. Staff friendly and attentive. Loved the balcony overlooking the sea! VIP service was awesome - early check-in, late check-out, lobster dinner and massage included!

Carisol los Corales: They need to learn some math!

There were many people returning to this resort for the 5th, 10th or 15th time ... they stay anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks at a time. Every returnee that we talked to said that this was the worst that they have seen. The management just didn't do the math ... more people means you need more servers and more food. I won't talk about the quality of food - it was the expected for this resort ... no problem ... but when you have one cook on a half-sized grill trying to serve 30 people ,,, that's  [... read more]a problem. Unfortunately it didn't end there; under-staffing was the norm at the bars, the wait staff, maintenance ... I felt sorry for some of these workers, they seemed genuinely trying to keep up but they had no support. Until they learn the math principles I would stay away from this place.

Costa Morena: Wonderful, quiet resort.

The property could really use some TLC , run down, BUT room was great, the ocean view from every room is breath taking and the food for Cuba was good. The staff amazing. We love it for relaxing, no beach, but a great swimming in the ocean and read lots of books.

nature setting -mountains and sea is truly fantastic, staff very friendly, food good, a bit repetitive, weather perfect every day. Beach small with rugged entry, but perfect swimming after 30m. All kayaks damaged and useless

Brisas Sierra Mar: okay resort

beautiful surroundings, staff were very good, food was not good with same bland foods served every day. (told that it would improve in high season), recreation staff were very good, entertainment was very good in piano bar.

Brisas Sierra Mar: great resort

Resort was good clean and friendly. Food was good but could be repetitive at times. Not a resort for people with limited mobility. Resort has lots of stairs and a elevator that will work off and on. However its always entertaining. I will definitely return here again in the future and would recommend it to most people.

Hotel Casa Granda: Good hotel in a great location!!!

Hotel Casa Granda is positioned in the heart of Santiago de Cuba city. The hotel rooms are all pretty big and spacious and kept clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. Anything u need is in the central square which is litteraly outside the hotel. U can take salsa classes, study Spanish, take a boxing class, go to a night club, rent a private house for about 20 a night, all within walking distance from this hotel. Beware of the guys at the front of the hotel, there's about 5-8 of them Cuban men trying to make money off you pretending to be your friend. Cabs will always over charge you, its like a Cuba vs the tourist thing. They grab as much as they can off u, inquire about the price on everything. If u want to experience Santiago this hotel is a great choice. Everything u want and need in one spot. PS. Very beautiful women everywhere, amazing!!!

Costa Morena: resort was not bad for 3 star

the grounds were very good clean ,. the food was terrible same all the time lunch and dinner not much fruit only watermelon and not ripe . the pool bar was good , the pool well maintained ,.the lobby bar was excellent ,. the room very clean if asked . but no hot water spoke to them but nothing

Costa Morena: could be a real charmer with a little work

the hotel was in poor condition due to hurricane sandy but the really disgusting thing was the dining room. flies around the food constantly very gross. need bug zappers or vapona strips to catch flies or even a flyswatter. need to wipe down counters where food sat. the beach area all rocks but I knew this. some staff were excellent while others very very lazy. the bar was not wiped down sticky, security all sitting together rather than patrolling or spread out. no tours were offered due to smal [... read more]l numbers in hotel should have been told that in advance.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Resort is overrun with one day passes with locals.

Food sub par other than the lower restaurant near the beach. Great fish and fried potatoes there. One spot staff is excellent.. Not a 3.5 Star. Resort washrooms always in need of toilet paper. Pool not cleaned daily. Pool in terrible shape.Torn liner exposes previous original cement pool with mildew and dirt build up. Large rolls in area where liner is so damaged. I realise it is Cuba but there is a lot of disrepair. Maids are fabulous. Bartenders and food service personnel are quick to look aft [... read more]er the locals and ignore out of country guests. But it is the out of country guests that tip them, Strange resort. Difficult to book an a la carte dining. Booking staff not available often. Booked VIP and had to ask for mini fridge service daily and usually was looked after the following day. Mind you they wrote it down. But not quick to rectify issues.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Enjoyed my stay

A different resort as you have all the public areas ie dining rooms, some bars, swimming pools, reception on the top floor and the rooms are located on floors below where the beach is also. It is a big resort with lots of space. The staff are excellent and most helpful. Probably a downside is the distance from the city of Santiago de Cuba. It is about 60/65 KM. I had a bicycle lent to me by a Cuban friend so the isolation allowed me lots of riding on roads that were very quiet. A small town 12 k [... read more]m away was a nice ride.

Brisas Los Galeones: Great music, yummy food, perfect small size!

This resort had the perfect size (small) for a peaceful yet fun and sociable vacation. It offered a mix of activities & opportunities: from relaxing on the beach, snorkelling amidst coral and tropical fish, listening to excellent live music every night, meeting local residents in the village down the hill, and eating wonderful food ~ I'd been warned so many times about bad food but this did not disappoint! I will definitely return and have recommended it to many friends and I myself am already p [... read more]lanning my next stay.

Brisas Sierra Mar: It was well worth what they charge

The staff really takes care of you and go above and beyond. There was nothing wrong with the food and there is a good variety. Drinks just flow 24hrs a day. The shows were amazing. It was my first time there and a lot of the guests are repeatcustomers. I wish it were a bit closer to Santiago.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Natural surounding landscape

Hotel site is beautifull. Hotel needs to do maintenence on room, washroom and grounds. Great for hicking into the mountans. Most of the staff are pleasant and work hard. The weather is great even when northern cuba is only 10 C some weeks in the winter.

Carisol los Corales: Amazing part of Cuba

A visit to Bacanoa Province is an amazing experience. Club Amigo Corales is the place to book. The staff were friendly and helpful, the tours offer.ed were varied and excellent value...a great way to make new friends is to go for a visit to Santiago de Cuba via the Hola Sun representatives...the included visit to Laguna Bacanoa was well worth the time. Our guides were always helpful and personable. If there are any negatives they are the following: open air dining only is offered and the housefl [... read more]ies were always present/there didn't seem to be any effort to keep the food in warming or cooling trays so you had to eat when first served or risk gastrointestinal upset/I went for 2 weeks but the last week we experienced the closing down of the resort, my travel agent should have told me as this spoiled the atmosphere.

Amigos Hotels: Carisol-Corales is simply magnificant. Even though it is not a 5 STAR facility we give it an overall rating of the very same, namely excellent. One must not forget we are exposed to MOTHER NATURE, nestled right within this famed park. Unless you are able to cope with extreme heat during the end of season, the time we come on an annual visit of 14 days (mos. of April), starting as early as 1997, and enjoy air-conditioned clean rooms, you may consider a different time frame. We love [... read more] the staff who call us "Papa & Mama" which is kind of sweet because we are sort of in the age of their parents. Very personable, friendly Cubans who have to deal with our "want to live and eat according to our home status". Oh no, we do at times get a serving of home cooking a la Europe or North American Continent. As for my wife Heike, she loves Cuban food, enjoys every bit of it!--- She gets "rejuvenated" swimming in the sea, in remission of her cancer for about ten years. Still, to watch that sun, especially during the 13:00 to 15:00 time, that's the best advise- to get burnt is very damaging to ones skin. The sunrise above the high mountain chain which appears falling down by the sea, is most picturesque early morning hour. Especially during the walks along the sandy beach when the slowly rolling waves, at times more prominently and powerful, against the brilliant blue horizon, becomes rather relaxing to listen to nature's little spiel of excellence. Peaceful environment - if you love the quiet life. The beach bar available for refreshing drinks of all sorts while finding shade under palm made umbrellas and inviting, comfortable lawn chairs watching boats move or, happy people enjoying to spend time in the amazingly clear water with colorful saltwater fish chasing each other or, waiting to be fed by hotel guest.Of course, don't forget the pool area with an attached bar and friendly staff, willing to hand that quick drink - they remember you in an instant. Activities are on schedule daily, indeed marvelous entertainment. Trips are offered for the ones who are interested in Cuban's history and so on. The choice is yours! Brisas Sierra Mar: Had a great holiday.

Hotel public areas and grounds were all really well kept. The botanical garden was a hidden gem. Highly recommend the Eco-Restaurant. Had a great time on the Mud Spa Tour and the Moped Tour, both of which were really reasonably priced. Staff very friendly but professional at the same time. The only thing missing is a shuttle bus to Santiago du Cuba.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Awesome Staff

This resort is in desperate need of repairs. I was at this resort in 98' what a difference. Its sad to see that they have let it go so badly. The staff are amazing esp Miguel our bartender. They ran out of booze on the beach 2 days in a row and it took us paying $ to get them to go get more. I do adore this resort it was a absolutley fantastic time. Nightly shows and fun in the pool with the entertainment staff was a blast ! Front desk could use some training on customer service. Not to friendly [... read more] when trying to exchange for peso's. Would i go back ?? Maybe if they add some more excursions, cleaned up the beach a little more. And fixed the hallways that lead to the rooms. Seeing black running down the walls is not very inviting. Took my husband as he had never experienced Cuba and since i loved this resort last time thought it would be the perfect place. The owner of the store is not too friendly, promised us cigars that he never did get! They need to put bottles of water in each room since there is a fridge not have us go to the pool bar to ask for it. Could be done when maid is cleaning the room.

Hotel Casa Granda: Casa Granda pros & cons

Hotel is very central, so helpful to go in & out during the day. Rooms only have 220v so bring adaptor. Many cubans waiting outside with taxis, etc. Very aggressive. No fans in room, and no individual AC control.
