Wonderful Resort

Everything was wonderful, the pools were clean and looked so good. the beach sand was beautiful, saw a little bit of garbage on the beach but all in all great. So relaxing, maybe more chairs, but great. first time at a resort and was very impressed. thank you for everything. Our room was always cleaned very good and very nicely presented every day we came back. Wonderful service, friendly and kind.

Great place for relaxation and entertainment!

We enjoyed our stay in this resort with our small family and friends. Beach is beautiful and shallow. Lots of activitues by the pool area. Night programs for kids are fun and shows are spectacular, don't miss them! Food is OK, unlimited drinks help you relax. Friendly staff!

Amazing beach! great resort

The room was really clean the beach is amazing the staff very friendly the food was ok at buffet and the A la carte was excellent (Bana,bistro and mexican) Over all we liked it but the food at buffet could be ameliorated

Amazing Vacation!

Pools/Beach are fantastic - they accommodate everyone. A lot of older people and kids/families at the shallow pool and younger adults and couples at the "party" pool. Sand was white and ocean was clear on the beach, tons of room just make sure to reserve a spot if you want shade early in the morning. Music was fantastic at both. Food was not too bad at the buffet but it pretty much accommodates everyone. We had tried the bistro, Cuban and Mexican restaurants and they were all amazing!! Highly suggest the Mexican. Beach buffet is probably the best one for lunch. Sometimes didn't get a bottle of water left in our room but make sure you do because you can't drink their water. Service was okay throughout our stay considering the resort was full with over 2000 people. Tipping makes a difference obviously. Drinks were good - ask for sex on the pool or Miami vice (the best one is at the entertainment bar). Lobby was full of life and entertainment was great - a lot of live bands playing which was enjoyable. There is a disco which is on the resort but I don't think it is part of it 100%. Didn't have a chance to do any excursions but I heard they were fun! We had a massage on the beach for 30mins for only 25 pesos and he was amazing (highly reccomend)! To top it off we had perfect weather from Feb 13-20 lots of sun, some cloud which was nice and a breeze. It only rained twice at night for maybe 2 minutes and we missed it both times which worked out. We stayed in bungalow 23 and it was a good spot in between everything. Overall it was a great vacation and I would definitely go back again! P.S Alex the Zumba instructor on the beach is the kindest most fun person you will meet.

Great Value

This hotel was very clean & well kept. The food was decent with quite a bit of variety. The pools and beaches were beautiful and very nicely kept. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Great entertainment every night before and after supper! The running water in the rooms was a little lacking, but all in all a great resort!

Amazing resort

Everything was amazing from the resort to the service and beaches. The food, rooms, drinks and staff were great. My Agent from Trip central was awesome. She helped us pick the resort and was very helpful and friendly.

Amazing resort!

This hotel is great. The ocean and the beach are awesome...We walked and walked. Met a lot of french people. The Cubans are amazing people...We had brought clothes and toys and the smallest thing you give them is like a million bucks.... The only drawback is the long wait in line-ups for meals. There were 2100 people last week on the resort. So, needless to say, line-ups were long and some people are obnoxious and don't like to wait... But, overall, we are very satisfied and will definite [... read more]ly be going back. We made good friends and want to see them again.

A resort making improvements

The resort was good. The food was not great even for Cuba. The other Melias have way better food and options. The pools were great. There were enough huts at the ocean for everyone but you needed to get chairs by 9:30am. They are making more improvements to expand the beach amenities. A bar was being built during the week we were there. It should be operational now as the grills and water were in when we left. O am not sure I would go back to this resort. I would stay at other Melias though.

Nice Resort

The resort was beautiful, beach was gorgeous. Staff were very friendly. Food was pretty good for Cuba. Always found something good to eat without being too repetative. Entertainment was fantastic. Overall a great vacation.

Very Nice

The resort is Huge! But manageable. They also have 6 seated golf carts that tour the logging paths regularly! The ocean is in a cove so there's rarely any big waves if any even when it's crazy windy. Lots of sand bar that appear and disapear with the tide. Beautiful white sands Most staff spoke very good to decent english except maintenance and repair personal. If this bugs you bring a flashlight or your phone :) The a-la-carts were decent the international was the best for us beautiful environment. Pools are huge! the sunrise pools seam to be the spot for the younger or more energetic crowd and the sunset was definately 45+ and children. Both have swim up bars 24hr snack bar just feet away from the sunrise pool and the ice cream bar. Food is order on demand (burgers hotdogs sandwiches fries and poutine etc) also has a small breakfast lunch and dinner buffet. The 2 full buffets are standard staff speaks ok english and very attentive. Nightly entertainment was actually choreographed nicely the dancing and shows were awesome! Highly recommend the cave party excursion. Bus leaves resort at 10pm and brings you back at 2am.. included drinks underground in an actual cave with a dance and fire show. Theres a dance floor in the center and a decent DJ. Overall a really nice place

A Big Resort

If you like a resort with many people and many amenities, this is the place for you. There are swimming pools that are large and children's pools that are large. The beach is a vast white sand space and there are shaded beach palm structures to accommodate all who wish to be there. I never saw a lack of chairs and shade huts. The rooms are large and well equipped. It is a good place to go with family members and is at times too full of people. Good shows at night, the best a la carte restaurant  [... read more]is the Bistro. Avoid the spa adjacent to the hotel - unqualified persons give massages that are not worth the money.

Resort was disappointing

Hotel grounds were beautiful! Hotel washrooms were disgusting. Hotel room was acceptable but not the daily cleaning. One clean bath towel for 2 people every 3rd day. Not refilling the pop or beer like we were told. Hotel entertainment was good at the lobby. Food was terrible.

One of our favourite vaction resorts

The pool and areas are perfect...exactly what anybody could want or ask for. The food, while not spectacular, was still more then anybody could expect or want. Abundant and tasty. Healthy options and indulgent options too. 99% of staff are friendly and helpful and do the best they can with sometimes limited resources. Rarely had to wait for more then a minute to get a drink, alcoholic or otherwise, at any of the bars or restaurants we frequented. The beach lounging chairs and the large straw umbrellas and other covering features were great and always available. More then enough for every vacationer. The beach was long, broad and spectacular. The serving staff ( guys who who'd come up and down the beach all day bringing you drinks ) we're incredible. Can't say enough about them. All in all, an absolute great place to visit. Our second visit and won't be out last. Not even close.

This should be a 5 star hotel!!

We had an amazing time!! We will be going back again! People, food, entertainment, cleanliness as far as I am concerned, I think this should be a 5 star!! I have been to other resorts in Cuba and I think this is one of the best of all time!! So good that we didn't want to go back home!!

Amazing time at Melia

I just got back from Melia Jardine del Rey a week ago , this was my forth time to this resort. This time I went with my best friend and we had amazing time. The resort is 3 years old , very clean and lively. Live music and cuban bands at night will keep u dancing all night long and if u want more u can go to the disco that located next to the resort. On Sunday we have enjoyed our self to Bueno Vista Social club Cuban musicians from Havana live show , still have goose bumps from that night. One  [... read more]word spectacular. During the day u can chillax on the most beautiful beach or get hot and sweaty with Zumba and many activities they have to offer. We also visited the sister resorts on the double decker bus just to change up the scenery. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Food was good , got invited to a special dinner as a returning guess at the Japanese restaurant and food was on point. It’s a short drive from the airport as well which makes it more convenient for everyone. I can’t not wait until we go back and would definitely recommend this resort for the right price.

Good resort - food suboptimal

The grounds of this resort were well maintained. What a recovery from the hurricane. Beach staff and housekeeping staff were very welcoming, which was not always the case by the pool or the café. Obtaining a towel was an issue on the first day - apparently, this is not isolated to this resort. There is only one company that services all resorts, and there are not reliable. Make sure to bring cash - the credit card system has been down for three weeks, and this was also the case in other resorts [... read more]. It was our fourth time to Cuba - the food was not great when compared to other Cuban resorts we've been to. For a "newer" hotel, returning tourists did state that it has declined. All in all, we did enjoy our stay, but would choose another resort in future.

Bigger is not always better!

Don't get me wrong! this is a great resort! best beaches ever! fantastic pools! bars had the best drinks! room was beautiful and clean, and the food was good wouldn't starve. Just too big and too many people wanting at sometimes a limited supply of towels , food, drinks, bottle water, or maintenance problems ( toilet plugged ) Nice recovery from the hurricane that hit them last year but a lot of garbage and broken chairs laying around the beach. But I was more disappointed in the people stay [... read more]ing there " if you don't do it at home why do you think you have the right to mess or clutter there" show some respect and consideration to other guests and the people who have to clean up after you! Great Resort! but I think as you get older the walking is the downer, just too big and crowded.

Big resort, friendly staff - had a good holiday

Beach was gorgeous. Staff were generally very friendly and accommodating (however Cuba does have supply issues - getting more towels can sometimes be a problem, running out of things like ketchup, syrup). Great lobby area - it's large, lots of entertainment at night, bar open 24/7 I think. It's the place to be at night. The place was very clean. Food - a la cartes were decent. Didn't like the snack bar or buffet much (needed better quality food overall.. and more choice would have been nice. I f [... read more]ound there was a lot I didn't care to eat and dislike waiting in really long lines.) Lots of pools - tons of chairs and there's always somewhere to get a drink. Overall we are pleased. Biggest disappointment was definitely the quality and selection of food. Loved the people. Especially Mandy and Nona.

Major Issues

I would like to pass on my experience of the Melia resort, located in Cayo Coco. I, and my girlfriend, arrived on January 31st and departed February 7th 2018. This was our fifth visit to Cuba, we love the country, it's culture and its people, and understand what to expect in terms of the differences from Canada. What I did not appreciate however, was the tripping hazards, garbage, broken drinking glasses outside the accomodation and lack of care for what is otherwise a lovely vacation spo [... read more]t. Surely, there can be no excuse for this.. Also, my room in building number 23 was full of bugs from the start. We had arrived late in the evening and were woken by ants biting us in bed!! Ants were in our bed and in the bathroom and appeared to be coming from the sink drain. I have never experienced this in Cuba before. My girlfriend was very sick with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea for two days. I watched as a chef worked the hot plate: He was cooking raw Chicken, Beef and Pork. Handling three types of raw meat with the same utensil and plate on to cook. This is "cross contamination", and a likely cause of the numerous cases of food poisoning we heard about from other guests. Please, simply re-train the cook staff on basic food handling, preparation and hygiene- then no-one else will get sick! The buffet food is terrible, cold and like eating rubber, easily the worst ever in Cuba. Remember; this is our fifth visit. The only decent meal we had came from the "Tex Mex" restaurant. I would like to mention two servers who worked breakfast and lunch at the buffet. "Yosmany" and "Roberto" were outstanding in terms of appearance, prompt and polite service, friendly, professional and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. They should be recognised for excellent service. If EVERYONE in Melia Cayo Coco had the attention to detail similar to these servers; we would have had a better experience. I take this time not to be unkind or ungrateful; but to inform and address how a wonderful resort could so easily be so much better.. Although the beach and pool areas were lovely, I cannot recommend Melia Cayo Coco to anyone in good conscience at this time..

Not what I expected

Not sure where to begin. I was hesitant with the good and bad reviews. To start off the beach and pool are great. The rooms are decent however having towels to shower after the day at the pool or beach were not easy to get. Many nights we would come back and there would be no towels at all. It took about 4 calls to customer service to even get a hold of someone and more than hours of waiting for towels. One night after being at the beach all day there was not a drop of water to take a shower or wash hands. The service in the buffet was terrible and it was like a fight to get food and the longest lines I have ever seen. We Booked the Italian a la carts and my kids wanted more bread and they said they have no more but were walking around with a basket of bread. 3 choices of fruit all week and no juice at all for kids. It was horrific. I was s disapponted with almost everything. Would not go back or recommend... Just really bad service and washrooms in the lobby full of crap and no toilet paper. They need to do a lot of work to get this place to even a 2 star. What a waste of a beautiful beach.
