Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: No better vacation than any other average 3.5 - 4 star resort

I would start out by saying that I have traveled extensively and have visited numerous all inclusive resorts, almost 50. The Grand Bahia Principe Akumal is part of 3 other resorts on the property, therefore it is huge, so be prepared to walk a lot or wait for the trolley. The staff who operate the trolley are good but they cannot be everywhere all the time. Staff - Good and very prompt and polite as most Mexican people are. They are extremely hard working and legitimately kind. No servers ar [... read more]ound the pools which I found odd. Grounds - large, beautiful, and well maintained. Akumal patrons were allowed access to all the other resorts, but it seemed so were the Tulum patrons. Regardless of this, the pool at the Akumal is designed to be quiet with no music and it is small and has very little seating. The Tulum has the best pool as I went to both Sian Kaan and the Coba. The buildings are a bit dated now as parts of the resort were closed for renovation. During my entire stay the Akumal Lobby was closed. Imagine the hub of the resort closed and I only found out a day prior to my departure. No, I would not have booked it knowing that. Be aware that many parts of this resort will be closed at different times over the next few months to a year. A little deceiving on their part. Beach - is not very good for walking or swimming. It is rocky and there was hardly anyone in the water. One spot was okay to snorkel and fish watch, but overall not a great piece of the beach. Rooms - what you would expect. large enough and nice enough but showing signs of age as is the balcony. I requested a specific building but of course I ended up with one of the worse buildings and rooms as I could not see anything from my balcony. I traveled alone and was not treated very well considering I paid $500 more as a single traveler. I should also mention that I was a repeat guest which meant nothing. Restaurants - Buffet was ok and the a la cartes were a bit better. Not bad, not great, average I would say. Solo travelers get stuck in the corner every time unless you speak up. Second class citizens so to speak. Remember I paid more, but in there eyes they got less out of me and my room as dbl occupancy is preferred.Customer is always right remember. I know it is the management who tell the staff where to sit singles, but I did not like it as most wouldn't. I was not checked on as much either and I am a huge tipper to the point of ridiculous. Bars - Well they did have some better liquor but I noticed that the drinks were light when you asked for them, so I had to ask for a double. Keep your eye on them they are obviously being told to be careful with the premium liquor. The sports bar was one of the best I have seen and it was a good environment especially with no lobby bar. All that is on however is soccer and I do not watch that game. Transportation - on the way there, it was a large bus with a washroom which makes sense. On the way back they packed 12 adults into a van with no washroom for a 1.5 shuttle to the airport. Remember some drank too much the night before, others had too much heat, and others had food issues. You understand what I am saying I think. Air transat flight was acceptable but is bare bones. Same overpriced food and of cafeteria quality. Check accuracy of baggage weights fyi. I have a serious airborne allergy that was to be reported to air transat via trip central, but for the second time in a row it wasn't so I had to do it myself and have people stare at me and groan. Not sure if it was Air Transat who screwed up or Trip Central but it is a serious matter. It should be the first announcement as well. SO OVERALL JUST OK WITH MANY DISAPPOINTMENTS. MAYBE VISIT THIS RESORT IN A YEAR OR TWO WHEN RENOS ARE COMPLETE. OTHER ISSUES HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED BY AIR TRANSAT, TRIP CENTRAL AND GRAND BAHIA RESORT.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Absolutely huge resort with a jungle feel

Loved how the grounds make you feel like you are in the jungle without all the bugs. A variety of animals and birds roam freely around the resort. Keep an eye on your food as the Coti (sp) are opportunistic and will snatch your food. The beach is nice and I had fun body surfing the waves. It was sometimes difficult to find beach chairs and if you want a bed by the pool or beach get up early as many people drop their towels and stuff and go for breakfast. Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: OUTSTANDING resort!!!!

Had the most AMAZING time! Such a beautiful resort! Clean, well maintained, and most importantly, have the friendliest people working there! A fantastic variety of restaurants to choose from, and even though we didn’t take the prestige package, we found that we didn’t ever have to wait more than 20 minutes to get a table. We would DEFINITELY choose to go back, and would of course recommend this resort to others!

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Beautiful Resort

We stayed in the Adult Only Select Club section which was perfect for us as it is the closest to the beach. We never had any issue with chairs at the beach at any time of day. The food at the buffet was plentiful and wide variety. Our fav ala carte restaurants we Le Gourmet and Gormex. Lots of nature, animals and eco friendly. Bring a drink cup/water jug and enjoy the most beautiful beach.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

The grounds were immaculately kept we loved strolling through the grounds. Staff were friendly and helpful...they all work so hard for us and we apprecuated it. Food was fresh and well prepared and delicious.

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Fantastic Resort

My wife and I had a terrific stay at the Grand Palladium Kantaneh. Our villa was very nice, lots of a la carte restaurants. Two huge pools and two small adult only pools. This is a big resort but golf carts are readily available to pick you up and take you wherever you like. Nightly entertainment was very good. It you go to this resort, pay the $100 to go to the “Chic” Caberet Show.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Expensive Lemon

Our holiday started with the first sour note an additional $1,100.00 to have a room with some view, instead of a room with the view of the swamp and the big & ugly utility building, and afternoons in the full blast of the sun. Most of the staff, including the buffet, with very little or no English. Every step required a tip, and , even after tipping you still won't get the service or drink you asked for. Food , at the very best, average. Meals repeating almost day after day. Fried chicken o [... read more]r fish with fries was always the best bet. Pork or beef.. forget about it, the soles of my shoes are tender. Entertainment : NADA !!! Live elevator music at keyboard or violin. No shows.. When it rained or close to raining, events were cancelled. Only twice a smart DJ managed to provide some entertainment for all ages. Twice in 11 days !!! On top of it the "entertainment" with full blast of boomboxes were located in the close vicinity of the living quarters. Closed doors and ear plugs couldn't help getting to sleep. Only the beach and ocean earned the 5 star rating. It's the second lemon in a row, after last year experience at Princess in Dominican Republic.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Great Service!

We had a great week at this resort. The service on the Hideaway side was absolutely amazing from the bartenders to the towel/pool attendants. The meals were great at the restaurants in the Hideaway side but also in the general resort area. We're foodies so delighted in the specialty restaurants and stayed clear of the buffet. We will be going back to this resort again!

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Exceptional Service

While the resort grounds and rooms are beautiful, what really stood out to me was the service. Even at the buffet, where you're less likely to encounter the same service you would at an a la carte, the staff was very attentive and lovely.

Grand Riviera Princess: Great for families

The resort was extremely well maintained and the kids loved having bunk beds. They especially loved how the room cleaning staff arranged their toys in funny vignettes every day. There was a great kids area, but our kids even loved hanging out at the main pool where the water was a little deeper. The resort was larger but everything was within a good walking distance. The pools were never over crowded although the beach can be quite busy.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: A positive holiday!

Family of 4. With a 2.5 Y/O & 9 month babe. Resort is great for families. 2nd time @ a Royalton Resort and the service/facilities is what sold us. Food options exceeded expectations. Went to Hunter & Taj Restaurant twice because we were so impressed by the flavours/service/presentation of food. Buffet also has many options. They always consider food allergies which is comforting for my family. Easy to navigate around with little ones & stroller. Many pools to choose from. Room service was a good option for us and the kids but it does take up to 45 mins. However, you can schedule a time for delivery all on your tv. Well designed resort. Evening solo musicians were a beautiful start to the amazing evening shows that followed. luxurious grounds. Such a positive trip!

The Sens Riviera: Great spot!!

Beautiful resort, the staff were friendly and always helpful. The food was great. Only downside was no balconies. The beach was amazing, lots of beach chairs and always towels available. Drinks were good.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great trip but

Great trip to the Blue Bay. Resort was beautiful and the people there are awesome. Food was great and rooms are very clean. The a la carts were all very good. I have only a couple of cons for the resort. Supper buffet line ups were very long and slow moving. My major complaint is the beach is very poor shape. So had to spend my time at the pool.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: OMG.. the Charm!

Funny, always said I would never go to the same place twice! This place had me at "lazy river" take it past that there was so many things to see and do! Although the resort was big it never felt like I was lost. Easy to navigate, there were trolleys to pick you up if needed, food was good and lots of selection. The a la carte restaurants for the most part were very good with kudos especially to the Japanese for their wonderful talent show and great food, to the Mediterranean..please have the tun [... read more]a steak...OMG! so delicious. The entertainment was awesome which was wonderful, lots of talent there. All the workers always had a" hola" and a smile. The beach was interesting with the ability to snorkel, see the Mayan ruin and the rock formations were stunning! Not my usual kind of beach however, I was intrigued and loved the charm of it all! Was great just to lay on a hammock suspended between trees and read. Lots of wildlife to see, from the Caoti's, the Sereque, racoons, spider monkeys in the trees, turtles by the theater, dolphin show at no charge, don't forget the iguanas and the fish in the ocean. The beautiful birds if you are watching and the Cats from the "Cat Lounge". I am sure I missed something as so much to see. Lets not forget the room, beautifully appointed and very clean. Loved, loved the rain shower, shower! Jacuzzi tub was great also. Lots of space in the closet and hangers yes hangers! Spent many a nice quiet time just before dinner on our balcony also. The grounds were beautifully kept and the pools are very clean with lots of chairs to go around for everyone!. The drinks were great especially when you doubled up on the rum, vodka and or tequila (to kill ya) aptly named, lol. I hurt myself the second day and ended up on crutches for the rest of the week. Dr. Eric Morales was wonderful with me, patient and help to assuage my fears of having any medical services to be provided in a different country! I was well taken care of and the reception made sure to check up on me the following day and let me know anything I needed they would be sure to be there to help. All in all it was a wonderful fun filled week regardless of my injury and I have and would recommend this resort to friends and family! Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Faded Glory

You can tell this was once a lovely resort. It needs repairs and wasn't up to the standards of cleanliness I have come to expect. The food was very much like the service, hit or miss. A great dish, a great employee, and then three okay and one awful. Those were the ratios. I won't be returning, but I feel it has potential with effective management.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Amazing

Just returned from a wonderful vacation at the Blue Bay Esmeralda. The food was great, rooms were clean, the pool was nice. The resort is large and spread out so there is a lot of walking but we really have no complaints! Would definitely go back to this resort.

Grand Sunset Princess: Great Resort

This was our third time here, and we plan to make a fourth trip in the near future. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to relax at a high end resort that is clean and has great service

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Amazing Resort

We were first time on on this resort and we were surprised by the warm welcoming stuff at the front desk. Was late evening when we arrived, the concierge set us with the room, immediately we were taken with a golf cart to our vila. We have booked a double room and for our surprise we got an one bedroom apartment. Everything in that unit was perfect from the well stocked fridge, bed, pillows, bathroom, full kitchen, living with sofa, TV, just name it. Grounds are clean, beautiful flowers, wil [... read more]d animals, great pathways for walk. Great and tasty food, lots of options in a la carte or buffet, we like their coffee in the morning. Pools are clean and some have salted water. Clean beach and well maintained, no problem to get a chair. We like everything about this resort and was very hard to leave, definitely we will come back.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Great Vacation

Everything was just perfect. The grounds and landscaping were beautiful. Trees and green everywhere. Beach nice and clean and water warm. It was really a tropical paradise. We enjoyed it very much. Lots to eat. We mostly went to the buffet and it was delicious. The rooms were very nice and the people very pleasant to talk to. We didn't see too much of the entertainment, we usually went to bed early. But there was a great group in the afternoon. It was nice to see the kids on stage too. The youth workers with them were very good. Kids loved them. And that guy in the afternoon leading the exercise and dancing at the pool was terrific and lots of fun, Erick I think his name was. The waiters were excellent. I promised I would remember their names, but they were all good.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Needs repairs

Very nice grounds well kept wasted whole day waiting for someone to come shut of shower. control that fell apart when turned on.it took them hours to realize they couldn't repair the control and moved us to another room. Someone went through our dresser drawers we reported it but think it fell on deaf ears.the beach was the shits.
