Occidental Caribe: Barcelo is a great place to enjoy

The service was great the beach is out of this world The food is good with lots of choices The grounds are well kept If I had to suggest an improvement the gym equipment needs to be updated and the hours need to be expanded

Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: Barcelo consist once again!

We have found that staying at any Barceló resort, we have never been disappointed. This resort is located away from all other resorts(opposite side of the bay area in P.V.). Rooms(huge), food, pools great. Minimal beach area but ok. Just be mindful of the mosquitos. We encountered them which we determined on the balcony. Can't see these guys but they can bite. USE BUG SPRAY!!!!. The buffet was fine....loved the crepes @ breakfast!. The specialty restaurants (Spanish and Italian) were exceptiona [... read more]l! We did not enjoy the Steak/Seafood due to bad service and food was not the best. We went once and didn't want to take a chance on a second time so stuck with the other 2 which we soooo good!!! We were there for 11 days and didn't have any issues with chairs (although there are those that must save with towels @ 4 am!!!) until near the end of our vacation when resort was 100 % occupied. Still had chairs but had to search. The worst thing still is people save chairs then you never see anyone use them in the "prime locations" So annoying!!! The staff was great in all areas and aspects. We did the premium upgrade which was worth it. A must do is the Rhythms of the Nights excursion. Worth every penny!!!

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Amazing hotel and resort

Amazing facilities at this resort. Excellent beach and pool area. Excellent dining experience. Lots to eat and drink. Amazing friendly staff all around. Thumbs up to this resort. I would reccomend this hotel to all my family and friends.

Occidental Caribe: great time

Beautiful grounds pools and beach, terrific food in buffet and restaurants. Japanese restaurant is quite a show along with great food . fun excursion and just a nice relaxing break from our long cold winter

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Barcelo Puerto Plata

I have stayed at this resort twice before so I knew what to expect. Not a lot of frills but the pools were nice and the food was good. The rooms need to be updated and as well it would be nice to see the hotel put in an ATM. Staff in the resort were friendly.

Occidental Caribe: Excellent resort

The Barcelo Punta Cana was more than expected for a 4 star resort. The food was amazing, the accomodations and staff were excellent. The beach was outstanding. We had an excellent 10 days. We are considering returning with the family next year.

Occidental Caribe: Fantastic Resor

We just love this resort. This is our second time at this resort. The people are fantastic . Mini Mi, Papa Juan,Carlos,Sonia and Happy Face are incredible people. They really make the resort. They are a must to stay at the resort!!!!! Enoc in the buffet was such a great kid too. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. Can't wait to go back and see all our friends. :)

Barcelo Huatulco: GOOD HOTEL DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU PAY FOR A WEEKS

Grounds and rooms are well kept.our room was cleaned in the morning and towels replaced every night and bed turned This Hotel has it good points. easy access to beach and pool. ala carte restaurants are very good. buffet is also good food for every ones taste.The sushi is surprisingly very goodf.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Wonderful choice!

The hotel was clean, staff happy to accommodate, great food and lots to do. We had two energetic tween boys with us and incredibly they never got bored. During our stay there was a large group of spring break seniors, families with small children, and plenty of retirees enjoying their peace and quiet. Amazingly the resort is large enough to give each age group the space to fully enjoy the reason they came. No regrets choosing this resort.

Barcelo Solymar: Fun

Run down rooms (bungalows only), decent amenities, above average food, watered down rum (drink vodka instead) beautiful beaches, nice pools, fun people to meet everywhere, friendly staff, beach bar is a nice touch, crystal clear ocean.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Another wonderfull vacation March 6-27-2015

This was our fifth visit to the Barcelo and we love it. The people and staff are so nice and will go out of their way to help you. Sometimes when requesting help the language is a bit of a problem but that makes it interesting. You're never quite sure what you will get and it is quite funny at times. We used Club Premium this year and really love the amenities you receive there, especially getting the eggs cooked just the way you like them in the morning. The only thing wrong with the buffet food is that it is not hot but his is typical in the Caribbean I think. The fresh fruit and juices are to die for I went into pineapple withdrawal when we came home. We love the Sea food, Italian and most of all the Japanese restaurants. The pizza is good but more suited to the young crowd. We did not care for the Brazilian but, a lot of people did it is your individual taste but not ours. I have read a lot of negative remarks about this hotel and I can't believe them. Lots of people that we talked to believe that it could possibly be by other hotels posting them. We talked to some people from Nova Scotia who hadn't been back for five years because of these postings. They couldn't believe it they felt that the Barcelo had improved and got better over the years. If you are looking for glitz and glamor in the rooms it's not here. If you want a room with a comfortable bed, a clean washroom, a beautiful beach and wonderful staff then this is the place for you. The gardens are beautiful and maintained by the hard working staff at the Barcelo who spend all day raking and cleaning. They are to be commended for their hard work. Too many of us forget about all the work that is required to keep the gardens looking so nice. After the morning cleaning of the beach a large patch of sea weeds and small twigs washed into the beach; there must have been a storm at sea. The Barcelo crew came down and cleaned it up and I will tell you that the other hotels didn't do that, thank you Barcello ground keepers. We did notice and thank you for your hard work. I have only one more thing to say thank you Barcelo for our wounderful vacations with you and we will see you again in 2016

Barcelo Solymar: Good for the price

The beach was beautiful! Food was good so was the selection. The rooms were dated, not the cleanest rooms. There was this sewage smell in the lobby area. The bars were good to. 10 minute walk to downtown.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great Experience

The Staff were all very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend the water park next door, the Pirate ship with the wake/surf boarding, the private instruction was a great experience, and our instructor was excellent. Accommodations were decent with the exception of very hard pillows. Necessities such as Sunscreen and Neosporin in the gift shop were a rip off. i.e.: $47 US for a tube of sunscreen. The only other issue we had was that they didn't make it clear in the Japanese restaurant before th [... read more]ey poured it that they were charging us extra for the drink they offered us with our dinner, which ended up being almost $100 US (which we shared with another couple, who were probably charged the same as we were)

Occidental Caribe: Don't go there, please!!!

Travelling with two young kids, day of arrival, room not ready before 5PM. I had a premium oceanview room that I paid extra for at the resort but it's probably with the least broken stuff, no shower pressure, watter leaking from ceiling lights in bathroom and sparking, broken fixtures, tiles. Beach towels are very rare, we were only able to exchange it twice the whole week. Towel staff very rude, refuse to exchange towels because I had 4 to exchage, also no towels after room cleaning, had to mak [... read more]e 15 calls to get 2 sets of towels, this happened on two occassions during the week. Restaurant and Bar staff were nice but the food was very poor. Food is recycled a lot in the buffet from lunch to dinner to next day. It was a constant hassle with front desk and customer service staff to a point were I gave up and just wanted to come home. Met two other families with the same issues as me. If you don't care about these things above, than it's fine. Pool (quiet pool and kids waterpark) and beach is very nice as well as the ground. The activity pool is where all the teenager hang out was disgusting with food and garbage floating. Great kids activities though.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Amazing vacation!

The hotel was beautiful. Everything was very well kept. The food was delicious, pool was always clean, beach area was gorgeous! The animation team was so much fun and made the stay an incredible experience! I can't wait to go back to this resort next year!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Amazing Resort

This resort was all I expected for cleanliness lovely grounds great pools and the food was great staff was very friendly and eager to help with any needs .It had a great childrens area if you have kids which we didn't so we stayed around the adult areas. There was a new mall with Strikers bowling ,Snooker Video golf and outside wake boarding and minuture golf. ALL IN ALL Great resort. Barcelo Solymar: A real mix bag

The buffet is one of the best I have experienced in Cuba. It is an extremely busy resort with guests checking in 24 hours/day but there is not enough staff to handle the volume. The guests are a good mix of young and old and the beach is one of the better area in Varadero and the location of the resort is good because I can walk to many places. The staff is excellent but the younger guests from Canada are causing a lot of trouble , bringing their own music while the resort has its own and that c [... read more]auses a lot of noise, fighting with each other drunk but the hotel manager was quick to set them straight and bar tender are great in cutting guests off when they saw guests are intoxicated. The rooms are good but lots of cockroaches because guests are shuffling their unfinished food all over. The poor cleaning staff are cleaning continuously to keep the resort clean. Lots of activities and I had a great time over all.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great Week at Barcelo, DR

We had a great time, food was good, pool area was great, beach was good I didn't go in, not as nice as Punta Cana but I'm a pool person. We paid under thousand each so I can't complain. Don't listen to negative reviews, nothing is perfect.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Me Encanta Punta Cana!

I visited this resort in 1999 on my very first trip south/to an all-inclusive. Since then I have been to Nassau, Varadero, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya, and Antigua and have never found anything that compares to Punta Cana, namely for the beach. It is absolutely incredible! Unless you're not a fan of coconut palms, white sand, or calm turquoise ocean. The resort, though just an average 3.5 star resort 15 years ago (and take note that the tripcentral photos are from that time, not curre [... read more]nt, check the tour operator photos for current ones), has been completely renovated and upgraded. So much so that it was unrecognizable. I would have had no idea I had returned to the same place (though I believe this adults only section has been moved down the beach a touch) if not for the beach and knowing we had been at this far end of Bavaro beach. I spent all day every day on this beach and could not have been happier. I spent no time in the pool area but it did look nice, clean, and had some areas shaded by canvas. The room buildings are three storeys, ocean front, plantation style I would say with palmed courtyards in between them and within them. My first room was in building 1 overlooking the theatre and lobby bar so I asked to move (which could only be accomodated two nights later) since I like to go to bed early/rise early. It was quite loud until midnight/1am ish. My second room was in building 5 and was very quiet. Though for some reason did not have the lovely blue accent wall, bedskirts, and drapes (instead they were maroon and gold, not nearly as tropical). The beds, pillows were quite comfortable. Minibar refilled daily. Bathrobe and slippers. In room safe (no fee). Large double sinked vanity area of the bathroom. No complaints there. Food was good, lots of variety. I only went to the buffets, El Caribe (main buffet) and La Brisa (lunch only). And the views while you're eating are wonderful especially at La Brisa as it juts right onto the beach. Service was good. I was maybe a little neglected being solo I felt, they seemed friendlier with couples, groups. One difference I noticed since originally visiting is that they all speak very good english and almost insist on it even when you speak spanish to them. In this way I kind of felt the resort had lost some of its Dominican charm since I'd first been. Also I remember merengue and other latin music being constant back in 1999 but now the resort plays zen type music coming out of rock-shaped speakers lining the footpaths and elevator music ABBA covers on repeat at the buffet. That was really disappointing. I missed being immersed in that part of their culture. The little bit the Actividades team played and coming from the tour boats passing by the beach had to suffice. Walking down the beach was a lovely daily routine, for me and a lot of other people. To the left there is a "local" area with a shopping "complex", beach bar, and "marina" where a lot of tourboats seemed to depart from. Then another resort (the Mariana?), another "local" area, then the Melia resort. That's as far as I went and could happily confirm the Barcelo has the best beach (though the view out to sea has been ruined by a couple platforms, one is the dolphin tour I know). Walking to the right is the Palace Deluxe section of the Barcelo resort and then an amazing stretch of virgin beach. I especially loved that walk. Grounds around the resort are immaculate and workers were always busy on the beach cleaning up any seaweed washing ashore. The actual beach chairs are the best I've ever seen at an all inclusive and never had any issues getting beach towels replaced. This was my first time to an adults only resort and had never had any "issues" with the children at other resorts but I was quite glad I had chosen to stay here instead of at the Palace section as it was an absolute zoo, I'd never seen so many families with young children on vacation. The quiet at the Beach section was very nice. And it is just a much more pleasant atmosphere at the Beach section all around. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this resort. Of course there are fancier, higher-end resorts out there but if you want a true beach vacation, I can't fathom any place better than the Barcelo Bavaro Beach.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Something for Everyone

Lots of activities and a variety of beach/pool areas to enjoy. The resort is very well planned. There are about 10 restaurants to choose from and the food and service are good. There is a very active pool area and 2 adult pools which are beautiful. Overall it is has something to offer everyone. The only thing missing are more dining/bar areas with an ocean view.
