Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Almost 3 star resort Club Amigo Guardalaveca

There are a lot of ways Club Amigo G. fulfills your expectations: they don't serve beer in plastic cups, the draft beer isn't watered down Cristale (Bucanero?), almost never ran out of toilet paper in the rooms or public washrooms, served patrons efficiently at the lobby service desk, never ran out of eggs nor bread at the buffet, beach chairs are available. But there are telltale signs of decay as well; as the grass is not cut, limited spaces at limited specialty restaurants, the daily schedule [... read more] of activities is not followed, returning guests don't receive any percs, repetitive food choices at the only buffet. You have to put these complaints in the context of a challenging Cuban economy with a shiny new competitor on the block (but $500 PP a week more expensive)--Grand Muthu Almirante Guardalaveca. Club Amigo will now always be the cheaper alternative, Brisas Guardalaveca too (although I'm told that Grand Muthu is a sprawling resort with everything far away from each other.)

Marazul Hotel: Marazul spruced up.

We enjoyed this hotel again. It seems painted up, floors especially polished, elevator working every day. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. But not many tourists. The wonderful beach across the street makes it so important for Havana. $5.00 shuttle to Central Park Havana many times daily until about 5:00 p.m.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Tired looking resort

We stayed here five years ago and had a good experience so we thought we would go again. Unfortunately the resort was rundown. Rooms didn’t lock. Mattress very old and lumpy. Food is just okay but we didn’t expect too much in that area. Definitely book the restaurants if you go for fresher food. After 3 when lunch closes at main buffet you only have the pool bar for limited fried foods. Pool was lovely and beach as always amazing.

Melia Las Dunas: Melia Las Dunas

Lots of variety at the buffet but it’s like a 40 minute wait for an omelet if your hotel even has eggs (heard lots of them didn’t). Lots of food shortages, couldn’t get a pina colada my entire week there to save my life :( Mostly just lemonade or coke to mix with hard alcohol or you’re drinking beer/wine the whole time. Tipping $5 USD is the only way to keep servers serving you or else you have to go stand at the bar. Lobby is pretty and that’s good because it’s the only place that we could connect to wifi.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Nice Resort

The resort was beautiful rooms were clean. We were in the club section. The a la carte were delicious we ate at the French and Italian. The buffet was ok except the same thing day in and day out also was very little of anything no eggs. Was it worth what we paid for definitely not Will never stay there again. Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Great resort

What a wonderful experience we had at Coral Esmeralda. We visited the resort late November 2023. Despite some shortages we had wonderful time. The young staff at the resort are great people and they will go out of the way to make your stay memorable. Occidental Arenas Blancas: I'd Never ever go again. In fact Occidental I think it turned me off Cuba for good.

The Good - the beach, the pool, some (just a few) of the staff. The Bad - No coffee in the room. I brought my own but the coffee pot won't work and several trips to the desk with no results. The stage is right at the pool and right in front of the rooms, way to loud all the time so you can't relax at the bar or the pool. Yes it's Cuba a Spanish Colony but 90% of the games, entertainment and announcements in Spanish so no-one has a clue what they are saying. The Hotel is old. The rooms are [... read more] OK and Lobby areas OK but our 3rd floor hallways were VERY much in need of repair. 2 Elevators at our end of the building out of order 2 weeks we were there. 1 of the 2 main Elevators in the center core also down for 2 weeks. Most of the coffee I got was Luke warm and usually full of coffee grounds in the cup. No Coke for 10 out of 14 days. Butter only 2 out of 14. Ran out of many things. No orange juice or pop at any meals. TV remote broken and no results from attempts to get one. No face cloths or shower mat and same 2 towels for 2 weeks. You do tramp sand and dirt into the rooms but never cleaned the floors for 2 weeks. Food, not too bad but we both lost weight after 2 weeks of Buffets so go figure. Actually there were 2 or 3 days of pretty good food. Entertainment started at 10 and after a day in the sun we wanted to sit on our balcony and rest but way to loud to relax. They offer free Hobie Cat sail boats yes, but can't take them out yourself without a Captain who wants $$$ to go. They use flimsy plastic cups for beer and drinks and garbage 1000,s a day. Should switch to washable hard plastic glasses. Yes more washing to do but very bad for the environment with what they have. The Sister resort, Barcelo Solymar, that we could use was much better and the 3rd resort we could use was shut down. No spoons at counters or tables! If you get soup or Ice Cream etc. good luck getting one. We got a couple and kept them and washed them and used for most of the trip. You could wave down a waiter and they go find one for you. Why not have spoons where the soup is?

Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas: Great Resort

Beautiful beach view from the ocean view rooms. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Rooms were clean and comfortable. A-la-Carte restaurants served good food and perfect sized portions. The live shows during the evening hours were entertaining and interactive.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: My experience at Roc Casa del Mar

I am going to preface this review by letting every reader know that the workers are amazing and that we made the most of what our vacation was. All statements I make are either my opinions or my observations and personal experiences while at this resort from December 26th, 2023 to January 2nd, 2024. Sunwing should be ashamed of themselves for how they have marked this resort. This was my wife's first time going anywhere and the main reason I choose this resort was because of Sunwings claim of [... read more] 9 restaurants. I gladly paid the extra money for the Excelsior upgrade that gave us access to all the restaurants every day. Good, hard earned money waisted because there aren't nine restaurants, there is one and it rotates through the various options (Cuban, Asian, American, Italian, etc.). The other restaurants are all closed as is half the resort due to the low number of guests. Well we were only able to get three days out of seven because the other days that line restaurant was booked solid and for the days we could book the only available dinner times were late 8:30 - 9:30pm. This upgrade was also supposed to have its own lounge but it doesn't exist from what I was told by the staff. Its own section in the buffet, but it was closed. Its own beach section and drink service which did exist, kind of, but everyone no matter if they had the upgraded package or not was using this section so does it really exist? The bathrooms by the pool were cleaned maybe once every two days and that's according to the bar staff near by. Toilet seats are missing, stall doors broken or missing. Toilet paper non existent, but that's actually common for Cuba (bring your own) The New Years Eve buffet dinner was a nice touch however I don't think they anticipated the amount of local guests that would be there to also enjoy the holiday. My Wife had to wait over an hour in line for a lobster tail, but at least she got one ? And as she said the server was taken aback when she only wanted one as most people were quite willing to take up to six at a time. Seeing the locals fill bags with fresh fruit and other food to take with them was heartbreaking and annoying all at the same time. I will say we both loved the Cuban people, they were as they always have been, an amazing bunch. We made friends with the pool bar staff and they really made out vacation. Coffee bar staff are just as great. Would I go back?........to see the people again...yes. Would I go back over a holiday again?.....not a chance. Was I disappointed....in Sunwing for what they are selling vs what they provide... absolutely YES and again Sunwing should be ashamed of themselves. I am not sure if given the choice if I'd take another Sunwing Vacation if one if one of the other carriers were also available, even if it cost a bit more money. I've gone with most of them and none have lied to me about what I'm getting. Buyer beware, ask all the questions you can think of, look at the online forums for the resorts prior to booking to understand what's happening.

Playa Pesquero: Great Ocean

As always been it is a great setting of the hotel. The See water is blue and clean. Sun is hot and shine, couple days of rain. The Service is great for tips. Food is not good at all. You pay only for the ocean.

Melia Trinidad Peninsula: Amazing resort!!!

We stayed in this hotel for one week just before Christmas. The hotel is brand new. I was very clean, and the staff very friendly. I love this modern look: very nice furniture, light fixture, lots of resting areas, bars and restaurants. Room very bright, clean, spacious with quit big balcony with great view on the ocean and mountains. Sometimes it was too cold in the room. Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful beach!

The staff is absolutely amazing! Always so happy to serve you. Every morning, we enjoyed the delicious Spanish coffees at the piano bar, or the pizza / fries at the beach for lunch. The resort is ok. Needs abit of an update but very clean grounds. The staff work hard at keeping it nice and clean. The beach is beautiful! The food at the buffet was ok, we had something to eat everyday even though it was repetitive, it's Cuba so to be expected. Muthu Playa Varadero: i dont recommend this resort

I don't recommend this resort for now as it's very outdated (feels 1990's in most places with minor exceptions) and for now they are in full slow reconstruction/repairs.. so you would have no sleep at night at all (balconies doesn't close well and no noise isolation at all).. rooms are closing almost all very loudly and because of long corridors the echo sounds like explosions, bangs, etc... if you are less lucky you'll have disrespectful people screaming (even if they speak quite the interior p [... read more]art of the resort is like an arena, so echo is amplifying the sound) for the whole nights and you need to be "drunk" or on pills not to hear that as isolation is so bad... luckily my experience wasn't a mess but not because of the resort ... - (resort experience 2/5 stars, rooms 1/5 stars, buffet 4/5, this resort shouldn't be marketed as 4 stars even 3 stars overall would be very generous)

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Could have been better

Our room was building 2300 and did not have cable, air conditioning or hot water. We were on the 1st floor and also had cockroaches. The pillows and top blanket smelled old and musky and the top blanket had holes in it. We complained at the lobby on arrival. They assured us that someone would be to our room to fix the issues. On day 3 after making daily complaints at the lobby we went to the customer complaint office and they had us moved to another building and that room was better, brighter an [... read more]d cleaner and had all the amenities. I also had a severe reaction to multiple bites from sand fleas after spending the day on the beach and had to access the medical services, onsite MD which was expensive. I recommend assessing the beach for pests and bring some cortisone cream and insect repellant. I needed to use the lobby phone to call my health insurance provider but the lobby told me a could not use their phone because it could not do outgoing calls even though I would be using a 1-800 number. There were no liquors so the drink selection was boring. They served the same food breakfast, lunch and supper the entire week. The staff did the best they could. I do wish the lobby had told us on day one to go to customer complaints and I wish I had been warned about the beach because it ended up ruining my vacation.

Melia Costa Rey: Needs maintenance and renovation

Hotel is good, but it needs renovation urgently. The rooms need maintenance, there are broken doors, mirrors, metal parts with rust, holes in the walls, etc. The cleaning of rooms is ok but in the buildings is not, you can find dust, paper, glasses on the stairs and hallways. The elevator situation is frustrating, more if you travel with small kids. The food is good, we didn't miss anything during our trip. The snack bar service is not good, prepare yourself to wait for more than 20 minutes to r [... read more]eceive a sandwich or pizza. The snacks are good but it takes so long. Drinks are ok, however if you don't request an specific brand of alcohol they will give you the lowest quality type they have. They also exhibit high quality bottles but you have to pay extra for them. I have been 3 times before in Cuba and I noticed the service here is not as good, waiters and bartenders do the bare minimum and if you ask for something they don't seem to like it. In general terms the hotel is good but it needs maintenance and renovations.

Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Best Christmas Ever

We absolutely loved the Gran Muthu resort in Holguín. The beach was beautiful and the staff was really friendly. The resort never felt crowded even though it was sold out. The food was what we expected in Cuba. The pools were so clean and clear. You could always get a spot at the beach or pool. Great bars located across the property. Overall we will visit again. We loved this resort.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Nice resort

Elegant and well maintained resort. Service is first class and food is in general good, especially if prepared on place. In contrast, food in specialized restaurant- Mediterranean was terrible. Room was clean with fantastic ocean view.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Very beautiful beach

Very beautiful beach. Very kind staff. Poor kitchen. Abandoned residential buildings and rooms. No mini bar. Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Returning guest

Returned because we enjoyed last years vacation. Beach is beautiful. Bar staff in the Diamond Club area are excellent. I found the food acceptable. There are shortages of some products but that is expected with the political situation in our world. We did have issues with the hot water in our room. Not pleasant when you are there for 2 weeks.
