Memories Cayo Largo: Average Resort - Decent Price

Not what I expected from a Memories resort in Cayo Largo during the Xmas break with my family. We had met quite of few people who were returning to the resort as I think it was much better in past years. The shows next to the main bar were great and the bar staff were awesome. The beaches in Cuba are amazing but this one was very small and had to use the beach next to us at Starfish resort. There seems to be a food shortage as well, no fruit or vegetables and not much change to the selection f [... read more]rom day to day at the buffet. Breakfast was decent as soon as something was out like Pineapple on the rare day it was gone in an hour. Our Oceanview room had a nice view but the room itself needed lots of attention, older with very little upkeep. What made the trip was the staff and the people we had met. The airport was less than 10 min away which was really good and the Turtle Sanctuary at the Marina was also nice to visit. Jenn Black at Trip Central was amazing to deal with and was very helpful with the booking.

Memories Jibacoa: Never Again

We felt that the Memories Jibacoa was a very intimate and quiet resort. The grounds were clean but nothing spectacular. The service was satisfactory. The staff did not go out of their way to greet us or to serve us during meals. The food was simple. The same food choices for the entire week. Most food was served cold and the buffet staff served you. If you wanted 2 pieces of bacon, you needed to ask for 2 pieces. They had limited choice for non alcoholic beverages. Housekeeping staff were very [... read more] helpful and friendly - they were the ones who provided the best service during our stay. The groundskeeper was always friendly. We would give this resort a 1 out of 5.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Very nice Resort

Second visit. Still a new resort. Very clean and modern rooms with great showers and good water pressure. Beach is excellent! Can walk out in the water 200 feet and still only waist high. Food is challenging. Don’t expect a great variety. Staff very accommodating and pleasant.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Property 8 - Service is a Zero

Property and food were OK. But the service was horrendous. Everyone always looked miserable and looked bothered when asked for anything. There are several other hotels in Cayo Coco to choose from. We will never stay at a this hotel again.

Playa Pesquero: Horrible!!!!!

Do not go to this hotel or Cuba in general. Lack of food, very difficult to find nutritional food to eat anywhere in the hotel, no eggs/chicken only pork and burnt beef, ppl were sick with GI issues, pool dirty, ppl smoked all over the property including balconies, shops did not have alternatives for food, no gift shops, rooms are very worn and tired looking, torn bed sheets, shampoo/soaps not restocked, 1 toilet roll per room, and birds roosting/pooping in the lobby. Airport awful!! Watch y [... read more]our passport/ boarding g pass. My boarding pass was stolen while it went through the security scanner! Yes, within a 3’ machine. I think the security crew are scamming ppl to get personal identity info. Horrible trip. I left 2 days early as quite unwell. I will never go to Cuba again ever. Be careful!!!

Grand Memories Holguin: Sunwing deficient touristic operation Holguin destination

The resort is beautiful, clean, staff is nice, polite, they do as much as they could, to make you comfortable. Everything starts with the first impression, and that was not a good one. After wandering through the isolated security zone, we finally arrived to the third Gate # provided to everyone travelling to Holguín, on flight WG 6342. Then we were taken, by bus, to what people called a ghost terminal around 7-10 min drive, from the gate at Pearson. There we waited and waited, Finally were al [... read more]lowed to board. The whole process took more than an hour and a half. The crew apologized for the delay, although we made it on time to Holguín. The Sunwing's reps are bolted to their desks at the lobby, that's good for the Company, more income for optional sales, but not for the guest, because they are detached from the day-to-day reality at the resort. Only once, I saw them, at the buffet restaurant during the launch time. Believe me. The rep that doesn't walk, every area of his resort, can not fight for his clients. During my stay, I contacted the Sunwing reps, about the time of the returning transfer to the airport, After the first week, they consistently confirmed, to everyone asking, that the time was 15:50, then on the 27/12, suddenly they said 18:30, when we tried, to find answers, the 3 reps disappeared. There were people out of their rooms since 12:00, off course, you were able to use the resorts, services. For me, it was not a big deal, but people travelling with kids, had a hard time, during that long waiting period. And for the grand finale, we left Holguín, one hr + behind schedule, made it to Pearson, around 30 min earlier, but then, waited the Marshall, for a significant time, and after that expended 2hrs at the luggage department. Even if everything else, was nice and beautiful, during the trip, this part of the operation dropped the ball, and another Sunwing's, lost game. Maybe, because they operated so poorly, were transferred to the court, outside of Pearson, close to the Cargo terminal. Hope they, are working on improving their performance. But in the future I will avoid them

Muthu Playa Varadero: Terrible Resort

This hotel was definitely not as advertised. The food was very poor and stale and we saw that almost daily the leftovers were redecorated, recycled and represented to be eaten. We have food restrictions in our diet, but there were no vegetarian or other food options. We were hoping to have seafood in Cuba but all we got was shrimp and that too was stale, not properly cooked and caused us digestion issues. My son had to be hospitalized because he got food poisoning from the restaurant (not even the buffet). We were told there would be snacks bar but it was under construction and all they offered was soda or drinks. Even the soda was watered down and towards the end, they ran out of that as well. Not only that, the rooms were dirty, bathroom flush leaked all night and we had to request room change as it was so smelly. The lobby and bldgs. were dirty resulting in overflooding of bugs and mosquitoes. These led to us being bitten so badly that my daughter had allergic reaction and her face was swollen for 3 days! We had power outages, water puddles in the lobby, coffee that ran out and cockroaches running all over the premises. The elevators did not work and we had to drag our luggage up and down stairs with only one bus-boy to help the whole resort. No hot water in the showers, bedsheets/towels not changed/updated for 4 days with room service not being done everyday! Lastly they had huge speakers directly facing our rooms and blasted disco music all day and night long causing us severe migraines and nights without sleep.

Melia Internacional: could have been good

Stayed at International with my wife December 1-7, 2023. We have been in Varadero few times, Holgin and Cayo Coca, all before Covid. Here is story. I'll add 1 star for the amount and quality of entertainment. It was nice. Not too many chairs. So, you probably will be standing, but it was nice. Upon [... read more] arrival we were not grated with any drinks. Yet when we were leaving they have expected a big group to arrive, some sort of colourful cocktails were waiting for them. We were given the room right away. that was nice. Room was in the 6 floor and overlooking the HWY and bay. It was nice as as the pool with load music was the other way. Some lights and fan in the washroom have never worked. We did not complain. TV was great. AC has two options cold or off. It has digital thermostat, but they would control the temperature in the hotel, just like in China they do. The AC makes the temperature, but pushing the moisture back to your room. So, it is cold and wet. Now the ugly. The first day we went for lunch into the buffet, it stinks so bad in the area they've fried some fish I could not come closer to investigate. We avoided that corner. A guy has handled raw and cooked fish with the same tool. One day there was a strong sewer stink everywhere, your room, buffet, beach. - minus one star for the stink, unsafe buffet described above. The beach: Nobody collect garbage. Don't give people straws. I had to clean around out loungers myself one day. Was just too much. People staying at the Level has their portion of the beach segregated. Would be still OK. But, why they have 2/3 of the beach there are ~ 20% of them? - minus one star for the beach issues described above. BTW you provide service only for the Level portion of the beach. I am OK with it. But, few Cubans could have made a living serving. Somehow they do not need to work. There no shortages for people staying at the Level. It is OK to give more to people who paid more. So, I didn't pay for butter, champagne and normal food and people at Level did? - minus one star for unjust food and beach situation described above. One nights the lights in the room went up and down and up again at 3:30 a.m. The second night was the same but plus some noise just outside our door. Electric was trying to fix something. I've turned off the breaker disconnecting the AC and power and tried to get some sleep. In the morning I went to the Customer Service. She looked at me like deer in headlights. After a short interrogation, she has admitted and had record that the work was done as guests in the room near by have complained on some lost power. She could not understand what is the problem as I did not call her at 3:30 a.m. and did not complain - so there was no problem or apologies. - minus one star for not letting me sleep for 2 nights. There were few other minor incidents that would account for another lost star. So, 6-4=2 stars -

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great resort!

Resort is big from end to end it has carts to drive you from room or beach to the lobby. Rooms were clean and well kept by housekeeping. 2 buffets at each end of resort and hotdogs/fries/snacks in the middle bars by the pool. Pool was clean, lots of chairs and a waterslide. Food was plenty and a 7/10. 24hr bar in lobby, other open till 10:30pm. Beer was draft, but cold, rum was aplenty. I would recommend this resort and there was not many kids, lol. Beach was very nice alot of chairs, tiki covered and small rum bar but they where building a hide tiki hut near the beach. Flying out of Windsor was sooo easy and nice.

Playa Pesquero: great time

had a family or 4 , kids loved the pool, ocean and the ice cream shack the most, were lacking some foods,eggs, bacon etc, but got by ,heard from people on the return bus that thier resorts had everything including french fries, all in all good trip

Melia Buenavista: Not A 5 Star By Any Means

This place was so run down that it was not a 5 star by any means.Breakfast was a night mare the flies were terrible and we had no eggs for days which breakfast consisted of toast bread and lunch meats,cheese and fruits.The unit we stayed in was not what i expected from a 5 star resort.The safe was useless and every drawer in the walk in closet was broken or missing which forced us to carry our important documents with us at all times not a comforting feeling while on vacation.The food was not al [... read more]l that great but we were not there for the food if i wanted great food i would stay home.The beaches were awesome even thought it was very windy for the first three days so swimming in the ocean was very hard.The people at the resort were great very respectful and always helping in any ways.The electrical standards in this resort is very poor here in Canada that resort would be closed down in a hear beat.Many lights were burned out and switches and receptacles were so worn out and broken that the cords for lights and our chargers would always fall out of the receptacles.The patio door was off its track and had a 4 inch gap at the top of the door allowing bugs into the room.

Sol Caribe Beach: Great resort

We went to Sol Caribe for Christmas. The resort is small and cozy, great for family vacation.Food was good, lots of variety. “Salt and pepper” restaurant was really good. The rest al carte not worth to go, same food at the buffet. They have 2 buffet for lunch, one is really close to the beach which was great and very convenient .Rooms are really nice, very clean and well organized, lots of cabinets , bathroom with nice big shower , comfy beds. Beach is pretty big, beautiful ocean to swim ? we w [... read more]ere very happy and had a great time . The entertainment need some improvement .Most shows were just dancing and competitions. No Michael Jackson or Queen show.

Sol Caribe Beach: Good Resort

Very nice resort in Varadero. I was nicely surprised with this resort. Lots of food and drinks. Lots of international drinks which I did not expect. Salt and pepper a la cart was great. Would recommend to anyone going there. Beach was great. No seaweed like other resorts I have been at. If you are looking for entertainment and shows, not the resort. Didn’t have much going on. Great people as always.

Memories Trinidad Del Mar: Do not go

The rooms were disgusting you couldnt even use the shower also mold and bed bugs everywhere. 18 of us got sick on their food i ended up in hospital in Cuba then again here in Canada been sick for seven days lost 22 lbs dehydrated twice. Worst vacation I have ever experienced in my life.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Honest review

We were there from Dec 21 to 28. Amazing beaches and good pools. The resort did a fabulous job to put together Christmas Eve dinner with all the possible variety. For the other days buffet had limited variety but freshly grilled chicken, fish and seafood was always available. Ala carte were not the best at all. This resort should improve in terms of entertainment for guests and more activities or live music in the lobby for guests in the evening time.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Our Experience

Check in was good. Polite and professional. We were very surprised to see many children as this hotel was listed as an adults only on the Trip Central booking site. It is also listed as a 5 star resort. I would rate it a 2 star at best. The lobby to the hotel is beautiful with lots of comfortable chairs and sitting areas. The room was standard and serviceable. The AC worked very well and our maid was helpful. Had the same bedding all week and beach towels as there were NO clean towels anywhere. We considered ourselves lucky as some folks didn't have beach towels at all. The room had a coffee maker but had to beg ($$)our maid for coffee to put in it. The food was typical Cuba. The bars had good service. The only mixers available were juice and Fanta soda. There was no wine all week except for Christmas Eve. All good as long as you wanted beer, coffee or water. We travel a few times per year and have experienced many different levels of service and quality at resorts. I would rate this hotel service and quality at 1 out 5 . There are so many simple things that could be done better here that would make the hotel a better place, but no one seems to care to make it happen.

Playa Costa Verde: wonderful place to relax and unwind

We've have been to Playa Costa Verde many times. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly. It is unfortunate that Cuba is struggling with fuel shortage and because of this, it is difficult to get food around the island. This is a political problem, not a hotel problem. We did not see any eggs all week, and Hot Dogs were a constant. I found that the meals were always the same. It's unfortunate because the "think outside the box" and getting creative was not there. (My husband and I ar [... read more]e chefs) I feel Canadians are not that fussy when it comes to food, but make an effort to make the buffet different ie: always tons of cabbage and onion but no coleslaw. Grill cheese, stuffed crepes with white sauce. All ingredients we saw everyday that could have been utilized better. We spoke with people on the flight home and found everyone felt the same way at other hotels they were staying

Starfish Jibacoa: A gem in Cuba that i am hooked on and will return.

Between Varadero and Havanna is a quaint village called Matanzas and The Starfish Jibacoa resort. This was our first trip to this resort. The staff are amazing. The food was great and unlimited with a wide variety everyday. There was wine both red and white that was served at your table at lunch and dinner. There was fresh fruit at the buffet everyday and freshly squeezed juices. This resort is always clean and tidy, and the grounds are vast and well taken care of. There are two grills wit [... read more]h a chef who will make your eggs or your meats anyway you want it. The shish kababs and the fresh fish were cooked on the grill to your liking. Our room which was a stand-alone bungalow facing the ocean was cleaned everyday and fresh towels and linen replaced.  Room was perfect with a very quiet AC. Marten our housekeeper was a joy to chat with and provided us with two bottles of water everyday. Ther entire staff are always focused on the clients' problems and always have a smile that is genuine. This is an exceptionally clean hotel with a beautiful beach for snorkeling and if you take the track behind the pool that leads to the beach you can walk for miles and miles on the beach. Be adventurous and go outside the resort and take in the trails that you can go up the mountains and get to the overlook to see Havana and the beauty of the ocean.  The rooms are simple but very cozy. Tours of Havana and neighbouring towns and villages are easy to get to. There is a local restaurant and a souvenir market just up the road within walking distance and the families that run these little shops are a joy to talk too. It is a quiet resort and I sure liked it a lot. I will return and definitely make this my “go to” resort in Cuba.  The staff treats you like family, and we always felt safe. Thanks to all the staff and friends I met. Had a very relaxing stay at this resort.  

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: AMaxing resort

This hotel was incredible. After hearing about the food shortage in Cuba, I was a bit worried. When we arrive at the resort the 24 hr bar and grill had hot meals , drinks and a very friendly staff. This was about 11:30 pm. I travelled with my granddaughter for Christmas we stayed for 7 days. She was definitely impressed.
