The resort is really nice the maid service was excellent but it lacks service at the beach and in the lobby. You have to pay to get a wheelchair which I never had to at any other resort I ever went to. The buffet was good but always the same very limited.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: 4.75 Stars in Paradise
I have just returned from a 2 week stay at Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo. Of all the sun destination resorts I gave been to, this is my favourite. Depending on my work schedule, I am hoping to return for a week in December.
GOOD THINGS:
- Excellent service in all public areas of the resort.
- Outlets everywhere, including on the balcony and on both sides of the bed. Outlets at this resort fit Canadian plugs, but the voltage may be different, so check your charger before you go to make sure it[... read more] can work with 110-240 volt input.
- Wifi works throughout the resort (1.50 CUC for an hour) including in the rooms and at the pool. I didn’t try it at the beach.
- Plenty of towels in the room. The beach towel supply was replenished about 3 times per day. The hut occasionally ran out, but a new supply was always there as soon as they came out of the dryer.
- Great showerheads and strong water pressure. I was easily able to rinse my long hair properly.
- The reception desk also functions as the Cadeca (money exchange), so it’s available 24 hours.
- Fast, efficient check-in, even late at night. Our plane was over 2 hours late, and when we got to the resort they had already assigned all of our room numbers and programmed the door keys, so all we had to do was sign the paperwork and head to our rooms.
- Beautiful clean grounds, beach, and pool.
- Pool water chemistry was checked several times a day. They did have to close the infinity pool twice during my 2 week stay in order to clean it properly.
- Very good food. I could always find several items that I liked at the buffet.
- The Indian a la carte is excellent.
- Snack Bar and Lobby Bar open 24 hours.
- All public furniture, including beach and pool chairs, was very good quality and comfortable.
- All of the service vehicles and trucks are electric, so there was almost no noise, and there were no fumes.
- No one at the resort attempted to sell me anything, or tried to convince me to upgrade to any special services.
THINGS THAT COULD BE IMPROVED:
- Not enough shade. I prefer the beach, but stopped going because there were not enough palapas for all the people who wanted shade. As the sun moved, the shade moved, but those new shady places were already occupied. At the pool there were only 5 or 6 functional umbrellas for the 100 or so loungers and Bali beds. The Umbrellas were often damaged by the wind, so I think they need stronger (and lots more) umbrellas.
- As others have mentioned, my shower leaked all over the bathroom. The leaks appear to be at the bottom, near the metal brackets that attach the glass to the marble sill. However, because there were plenty of towels in the room, I was always able to mop up the spill.
- The only garbage bin in the rooms is a small plastic garbage container in the bathroom, which in Cuba is used for used toilet paper (in most places in Cuba the pipes can’t handle a lot of flushed paper). There was nowhere inside the building for me to put items for recycling and other non-compostable garbage, which I didn’t want to contaminate with the bathroom garbage.
- If you want to be sure that visitors don’t flush the toilet paper, there needs to be information posted about this in the bathrooms. Visitors who are new to Cuba will probably not know this, as in Canada, USA, and UK, we flush the toilet paper.
- The patio furniture on most of the balconies is too flimsy for use by large adults. (Similar to the white plastic chairs we can get when on sale in Canada for $5 each). I could see that on a few of the balconies this furniture had been replaced with higher-quality beige plastic wicker.
- The coffee and tea in the room was not replaced daily, so even though there is a coffee machine in each room, there is no coffee or tea to make in the morning. I complained about this twice (after 3 days I had used up the 1 pack of coffee, and the 2 teabags that were there when I checked in). After the second complaint, the items were replenished once, and never again, so after 3 days again there was nothing left. I didn’t bother complaining again, as I was on holiday and this was merely a minor annoyance to me. I resorted to getting a cappuccino at the snack bar, which is open 24 hours and wasn’t too far from my room.
- Instead of coffee or tea, I started drinking one soda a day. Sometimes the 1 soda was replaced in the fridge. Sometimes it wasn’t.
- One day they didn’t replenish the almost-gone toilet paper.
THANKS TO EXCELLENT STAFF:
Absolutely everyone that I interacted with in person was excellent. I can’t possibly mention everyone, but here are a few:
- Eiser taught me to play Connect Four. I’m pretty sure he let me win a few times so I wouldn’t feel too bad about losing constantly.
- Yaseni (sorry if I’ve misspelled your name) at the towel hut cheerfully exchanged my sopping towel every day.
- Helen taught me to dance a few steps of salsa.
- Pedro provided excellent service at tennis and boxing.
- Danay and Helen improved my Spanish vocabulary.
- Liannys at breakfast, and Sandra at dinner (as well as the whole service team) always kept my preferred beverages refreshed.
- The servers at the pool bar remembered that I preferred ice water and that I don’t want a straw.
- The lifeguards, pool attendants, gardeners, and maintenance staff always said hello.
For me, this was two weeks in paradise, and I will definitely return.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Sub par for a four star
Hotel design unique ocean view from all rooms was a big selling feature to us that didn't disappoint, now I have been to cuba 12 times in the last 5 years so I have a fair idea what level service to expect, biggest problem was buffet and ala cartes food in buffet was not bad presentation good until you got to cleanliness, plates were disgusting dirty all of them!, manager says broken dishwasher well sorry clean them by hand no excuse, tables never cleaned after use a quick wipe with a napkin o[... read more]r back of their hand it makes you wonder how clean pots and pans in kitchen were
oh and no a/c in buffet according to one in the know said it was like that for a year Ala cartes for the Italian and Cuban were disgusting at best, they were in the pool snack bar bird crap everywhere chairs rarely cleaned off tables were cleaned with a small rag bird crap wiped off one table right to the next one never seen sign of soap or water it was unbelievable enough about food now I usually overlook a lot off crap but not this time no hot water for two weeks in our room couldn't open balcony door hit and miss on clean sheets and towels not a biggy but worth mentioning, drinks were watered down noticeably el mojito lounge bar no mojitos lol beach was amazing but the water in front of resort was full off sea grass after being to cayo coco the beautiful green blue of the ocean was sadly missed this water was black and most people did not like to walk in it will not return.

Melia Cayo Coco: Excellent resort, excited to book for a third time for next year!
This was our second visit to MCC. Although they took at tremendous hit from Irma they have recovered amazingly. Some thing are better than before. The beach restaurant is up and running. (last year it was closed). You can see the beach from some of the rooms with a clear view as the vegetation was vastly destroyed and is regrowing providing a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff is this resort’s most precious asset. They are kind and caring and always working hard to provide you with e[... read more]xcellent customer service. We were so happy to get to see some of our friends on staff again this year! The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The food is good with a variety of selections daily. Unless you are difficult to please you will be able to enjoy many great food items. We had the lobster one evening for dinner and I would recommend paying the extra to enjoy it. It was delicious! The entertainment was excellent. Always something different wether it be dancing, local Cuban music or a DJ at the beach bash. Something for everyone. The beach is pristine! Very clean with many loungers available. MCC simply put is my little piece of heaven on earth!! To some standards it may not be a 5 star in comparison to others however, if you want a resort that offers excellent costumer service, clean spacious rooms, good food and a beautiful beach experience this is a wonderful choice. Don’t believe the negative reviews. My opinion is that the negative reviews come from people who are very difficult to please or who just see the glass half empty and choose to pick out every thing to complain about rather than focus on the positive. I would definitely recommend MCC for those who want a little piece of heaven on earth!!

Hotel Vigia: Beautiful beach, poor service quality
We really love the beach of this resort, but got disappointed with a few things. Over all, the food is not too bad, but so many flies covered the tables and the food that just made me lose my appetite. Not only that, the inconvenience of having to go to the bars to get my tea for my meals at the buffet is a bit annoying. Coffee is only served in the morning in the buffet restaurant, and not served at lunch or dinner. Also, they often ran out of things like ice to make drinks, or herbal tea, o[... read more]r mint to make mojitos. The food at Cuban restaurant is a bit better than International restaurant. The staff at the buffet were quite friendly, but the staff at Cuban Restaurant were terrible. For example, we made a reservation for 7:00 pm one night at Cuban restaurant, it was a really humid day. We were sitting at one table and found that there was no air circulation there. We decided to move to another table where there was a bit more of cool air conditioning. The head waiter, his name was Alexei told us that we could not move us to that table because somebody already reserved it for 8:00pm. The irony is that there were only 3 other couples in the restaurant so there were many empty tables. We stayed there after 8:00pm and didn't see anyone coming to sit at that table. We did bring this issue to customer service Angel, who was very nice and very professional. He was very caring and very helpful. He even went the extra mile to help us to buy roses for our Anniversary. He worked very hard to take care of the details during our stay. Angel is the one that made the difference during our stay. He made us feel Special.
In regards to room quality, the first room we got was very far from everything and both the toilet and the shower didn't work properly. Also, there was no tap water at night time in that room. So we had to use our drinking water to rinse our hands. So we made a request for room change. After some negotiation, they did change us to another room which is much better and had a nice view.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great experience
IT'S an older hotel but very clean, and the service was great. We were staying in the CLUB section, therefore things might have been even better because of that. The beds on the beach were great with the club, and the service at the beach bar was good. We liked Gary-Jim (the beach waiter)

Melia Jardines del Rey: Good time
We had a good time at the resort.
Check in was smooth and fast and efficient.
The rooms we stayed were very good. The housekeeping staff that routinely takes care of building 20- 3rd floor needs a special mention - she did a good job.
The beach is perfect for children and is very beautiful- only drawback is there are some sharp broken sea-shells or similar stones which may slightly hurt your legs occasionally.
Food - buffet was average to above average. 24 hour snack bar needs more variety.[... read more] In general sea-food was a little less overall.
ala-carte restaurant service needs to be faster and portion of food needs to be greater.
Getting around the resort - It is a large resort - in hot and humid conditions it is a challenge to walk. There a small mobile golf carts rides available. Majority of the riding staff is quite courteous and very accommodative to give rides - a special mention to ernesto.
Gym - there is a small space for gym but with sufficient equipment. Two thread mills and one weight training machine was broken throughout the entire week,
Mosquitos at night - there are some mosquitos in open areas at night.
In general the property will benefit from additional lighting at night in walkways and making sure all the water , fixing of some hydro coverings on the pathway (some are rusted and may break if people forcefully walk on it).
Ambience in the hotel and property was great.
Front office staff are very efficient but could be trained to be efficient whilst being courteous.

Melia Costa Rey: Pullman - Cayo Coco - just ok
In my opinion, the Pullman Resort is a nice location with lots of potential, but in an industry that is very competitive, there is lots of work they need to do. The resort is badly understaffed, check in time is ciaos, I didn't find the customer service staff very aware of things, they don't have enough equipment for kids (they only had 1 volleyball on the resort, pools and things for kids closed at 530). The beach is very nice, but littered in plastic!!! I get there was the Hurricane and the[... read more] resort was badly impacted, but going back to a competitive business, not very good.
I found the service inconsistent, sometimes it would be very good, other times you had to ask. One breakfast buffet they ran out of plates available and other luncheon they ran out of chicken to cook. Make sure you order multiple drinks because it might be hours before you see a server come back if at all.
The cleaning staff were nice, but I understand there were issues with the cleaning of linens on the island as a result of the hurricane. The bed sheets didn't seem all that clean to me and they were requesting we hold on to our pool towels and not exchange them everyday.
At this point in time, I would not recommend this location to friends. I love Cuba, but after this trip, not sure I will be back, to many other Caribbean islands to explore.

Melia Costa Rey: Could be better
The staff at this resort work extremely hard, however the resort appears to be understaffed and as a result overall customer service is lacking.
Rooms had a musty, earthy smell, beds could use a pillow top to be more comfortable. The rooms are large, 2 closets, big bathroom, with patio and chairs.
Food at the buffet was cold unless prepared at a station. Breakfast was our best meal, fresh cooked eggs and good pastries. The a la carte restaurants were hit and miss, French and Japanese re[... read more]staurants were good. Seafood rotten, lobster was salty mush, most of left and went to the snack bar instead. The Italian restaurant wasn't bad, but it took 3 hours for our dinner! The snack bar had one person cooking resulting in long lines, 30-40 minutes wait for a sandwich or personal pizza.
Bars didn't have many servers, so again long waits, not every bar had premium brands and drinks were different from one bar to another.
Shade is lacking, we were unable to use the pool due to the lack of shade. The beach huts were damaged in the storm last fall,so there is little shade, we were out between 6/7 am to get huts. Maybe some beach umbrellas would be a temporary solution?
There are activities during the day at the pool and only one game of volleyball at the beach, maybe. We had 2 teens who were bored because they couldn't get a volleyball, soccer ball, table tennis or pool table equipment, the staff either couldn't find it or it was locked up at 5:30. Really? It was light till 9 pm. Also, why do the pools close so early? It was hot, light and beautiful but the pools were closed between 530-7.
The one elevator taking guests to the lobby was broken all week, it worked the last night we were there. Accessibility is terrible, railings on stairways broken or missing, no shuttle for guests with mobility challenges and there is a lot of walking.
You regularly saw 3 Managers walking around the resort speaking with staff but never guests. I approached one and he was unable to communicate, had to get one of the waitresses to speak with me. Why would a Manager not be able to communicate with the majority of guests who are from Canada and Britain?
The evening entertainment is good, talented performers! The aqua show was impressive. It would have been helpful to have an entertainment schedule in the room or with arrival info and the property map could have been a full size page that you could actually read.
The spa was nice, massage was great!
Westjet rep was supposed to be available daily 11-1, however we couldn't find him 3 times and there was no information about Westjet, only Sunwing and Thomas Cooke.
Overall disappointing time on a beautiful beach!

Sol Cayo Coco: Resort is very nice and everything is close, room, beach, buffet restaurant.
Beach is beautiful ,white send and clear water.
Lots of shades on beach.
Was not problem to find spot under shade and all the time staff helped to set up chairs under it.
Food was not very great. All food tested same.
We went to the " Italian restaurant " It was joke . it was beside pool where drinks are served . This "restaurant" was segregated with chairs
At least they could use little imagination as Italian tablecloth, Italian music, e.t.c.

Small resort. 40 min bus ride from airport. Travelled with a 1 and 4yo. Had crib, and pullout couch made up in ground floor, quiet room, as requested.
Grounds are clean and well groomed.
Buffet was fantastic. This is my fourth time in Cuba and by far the food here was the best. Fresh fish and prawns every day. The fresh fruit was delicious. Mangoes were very tasty. Morning fresh juice was great. Some variations at the buffet everyday.
Pool was ok; we preferred the beach. Many covered chairs [... read more]to choose from. Drink service on beach too.

Melia Costa Rey: Still an interesting ressort
It was my 4th trip to the Pullman in 18 months. I observed a little degradation. The elevator was broken all the week. It's not easy for the elderly climbing 26 stairs to go up to the lobby and reception desk. More than half the sidewalks lights were not working. I also noticed a downgrade in the quality of both red and white wine.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Mediocre Family Vacation
We were greeted by the customer service manager clapping and welcoming us in to the resort. We were also greeted with drinks. At front desk we had major confusion because we were a group of nine. Check in time wasn't until 3 p.m. and they told us that we can leave our suitcases, change, and make use of the facility until our rooms were ready.
Just before we began to put our suitcases in storage to change for the pool, one of the workers came and told us that one out of the three rooms were rea[... read more]dy. So he took us to the room which happened to be my parents room that was ready and we stored all of our luggages in there until our rooms were ready. We discovered later that day that there was a frog in our toilet. It was disgusting. It scared my children and it was gross to see legs hanging out everytime We flushed. Complained to the housekeeping staff, customer service and front desk and they all seemed to laugh at me. Wasn't impressed.
The food was mediocre. Nothing incredible but it was still okay to eat. Always a variety. And there was always something being freshly grilled or cooked. The best meal that we had was the Italian a la carte. That was besides the pizza. But the buffet was always open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The entertainment team was awesome, they did a great job with the kids, their actual show did not begin though until Monday. So Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we just had the Children's Entertainment. We went to the market which was over priced, we found it better to barter with the local merchants in the market outside Melia Jardine Del Rey resort which was right next door.
We also took the bus to Pilar beach. It was so beautiful! Water was super clear and clean until someone took a dump in the sea and it floated by us. Nasty!! Not once but twice. They also charge for use of the chairs. The ride to the beach was 1.5hrs because they travel in and out of all the resorts on the way. $5 Pesos gets you there and back.
The beach at Pestana was beautiful as well, the water was shallow but cloudy. You couldn't see your feet in the water.
My husband had a night out exploring different rums with a bartender and ended up falling asleep by the pool with his camera. He forgot it by the pool and someone decided to take it and not return it to front desk. Our family pics on the camera are forever gone now because it was stolen. Had it just been forgotten, he would have found it again!! Not impressed. Just seemed that everyone was filling our heads with "possibilities" that they were "looking" for it. But I felt differently about their responses.
There's cats everywhere, tree frogs everywhere, hermit crabs everywhere. Didn't mind them at all!! The staff was friendly. The gardener was such a sweety. He gave us gifts of necklaces and bracelets, creative palm leaf creations like grass hoppers and birds, even cut me a piece of aloe vera for my shoulders when I got burnt.
The mosquitoes and other bugs bite!! Watch out!!
The housekeeping staff made different creations every day with our bed linens and towels and added a flower to each creation every day. On our last day however, my daughter fell asleep with her swimmer's diaper on and peed in the bed. I apologized to the housekeeper and asked her to change the bed sheets, instead, she brought 3 clean sheets. That was it.
The waitstaff in the buffet restaurant were really sweet and helpful! They went the extra mile to help us! When we did not get water in our room for 2 days, Jennifer, one of the waitresses in the buffet restaurant, brought us 4 bottles. 2 for me and 2 for my sil for the baby.
The churro station was my children's favourite!! They loved the pool, and the kids club!
Don't think we'll be returning anytime soon though. It was 3 out of 5 for us.
We got hit with stomach issues halfway through our vacation and I believe it was from the fresh fruit. There are always flies everywhere while you're eating.
