Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Had a blast

The bus ride from the airport was 15-20 minutes which is a bonus. Check in was fine(we were 3rd in line). They give you the TV remote, 2 room keys and towel cards at check in and you can rent a safe for 15USD for a week. We had a superior garden view room in block 2. It was quiet as it was away from the pool and bars. The room was large with minimal decor but we had enough room to store our clothes. We had a king size bed, TV, fridge(stocked with 2 water, 1 coke, 1 sprite), 2 night stands and a  [... read more]table and chairs. Our A/C was ice cold, water pressure was good and the toilet worked. It was a bit dated and showing it's age but we are hardly in the room. The maid did an adequate job. Hair dryers are hit and miss so you might want to bring one. The grounds are beautiful and the workers work hard to keep it clean. Everyone was friendly and we never had a problem with anyone. There are 2 buffets, snack bars, 3 specialty restaurants and several bars. The food at the buffets and snack bars was a little repetitive but good and we always found something to eat. The buffet had ribs one day for lunch which were delicious. The Italian restaurant was the best then the Mexican and lastly the Seafood. We wouldn't eat at the seafood again and do not recommend it. They definitely did not skimp on the booze at the bars. The beaches were very nice with a lot of sand and clear blue water. The water is pretty rough and was red flagged for 4 of the 7 days. Definitely not recommended for small children and weak swimmers. There isn't really any snorkeling on site. There were a lot of loungers and the whirlpools carved into the reef rock were absolutely awesome. The towel game is in full force so if you want a prime spot get to the beach before 7 am. There were towel thefts, people throwing towels on the ground and taking the lounger, people saving 1 in the shade and 1 in the sun and some trying to save them for 24 hours a day. It was great being so close to town to walk around and people watch. There are a lot of places to eat and drink with many being owned by Canadians. The Jolly Roger is a must stop. There are working girls every where but they don't bother you. We will be going back hopefully soon.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: March break 2016 at the Gran Ventana

We enjoyed the week at the Gran Ventana. It's close to the airport (15 min.), offers nice rooms, good food and a nice section of beach. The resort was full but did not seem crowded. There are sufficient activities to keep you interested. The staff was excellent. Many excursions to choose from and most of them are reasonably close to the hotel. The Ventana is not a 5 star resort (and doesn't claim to be) but offers extremely good value for the price.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Resort - solid 41/2 star

The hotel was very clean, the grounds were very well kept. Great pool. The food was very good! surprisingly enough the meat was very good. Hotel room was a bit small and aged but clean. It is self serve at the pool, but the staff was very friendly. The entertainment left much to be desired.

Paradise Playa Dorada: Great resort!

My partner and I recently stayed at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada for a week. We travelled with one other couple. We had the ocean front view rooms and they were great! Lovely view waking up to the beach every morning. Rooms were always kept nice and clean and staff were super friendly. The food was very good for buffet. Lots of different options each night. To be honest we enjoyed the buffet over the a la cart dinners. The beach was great! We always managed to get enough chairs and enjoy the  [... read more]beach the entire day. The only thing that was annoying were all the vendors who kept approaching asking us to purchase things. A polite no usually worked but it did become irritating having to repeat yourself over and over. We booked two excursions- atv and the waterfall excursion through Elvis. He was fantastic and very friendly so I definitely recommend booking any excursions through him. Overall we had a great trip and would recommend visiting.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: awesome place

This resort has really well kept grounds and public areas. the food was good with a big selection. the rooms were always cleaned. you had a terrific view of the cruise ship terminal .we were there feb 28/16 to mar 06/16 and in that time frame 5 cruise ships docked there. amazing

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Great Value

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Great Resort for the Price

We stayed at Casa Marina for 7 days from the 13-20 March 2016. The hotel staff received us well at the reception and we were all given an complimentary cocktail. We were a bit sketched out by the rooms initially, as they are pretty outdated, however, they were very clean and the maids came in everyday to replace the bed sheets and the towels. The quality of the food was a pleasant surprise. We initially feared that the food quality would be questionable, but it ended up being of high quality and [... read more] really tasty. The 3 a la carte restaurants were also very good. The Mexican restaurant was arguably the best, followed by the seafood restaurant, and the italian restaurant (do not order the pizza it's not that great, but order anything else chichen lasagna was good). The night club entertainment could be better. Other than the Mr and Miss Casa Marina Night (Monday), the remainder of the nights were pretty uneventful and there were barely any people at the resort calipso nightclub. The evening shows were pretty good every night though and I definitely recommend going to them before going out clubbing. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful for the most part. The hotel beach and pools are of high quality.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: This resort was amazing!

My friend and I just came back from this resort. We spent a week at this resort and we absolutely loved it. The staff we’re great and provided us with wonderful service. Lots of fun activities by the pool and the beach is great. Food was very good as well. Only downside is the walking. This resort is huge so you often have to walk a little bit to get from one place to the next. Overall it was wonderful. Would definitely return to this resort!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Relaxing place

loved the location, decor, food, snack bar, drink bars, friendly workers, snorkling excursion, beach, pool. Would like better shows and entertainment at night, wi-fi doesn't work unless you pay for it

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Amazing vacation

Great getaway. We had a fantastic time in the sun and pool. The food was wonderful and the staff was as well. The hotel was about an hour away from the airport and it was a bit of a long trek to the hotel.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Huge resort

The hotel is way to big, not for the physically challenge as there is a lot of walking and steps. The buffets were okay. We were only allowed to book 3 of the speciality restaurants & didn't know our times that we had requested until that day at 4:00, because the VIP's came first. At night we only had 1 bar open(lobby) or we had to take the shuttle over to the Tropical, they had 3 bars. the beach was nice, we could walk to the one VIP & use it. We upgraded before we left to a junior suite garden view & our garden view was a brick wall & a parking lot full of golf carts. We complained & 2 days later they moved us to a slightly better view of a hill with grass. It's was better than the first room. We got the impression it was all about the VIP's. After a 2 hour tour to try to get us to buy into the resort we said no & it seemed to us it was all about the VIP's, we won the trip so we made the best of it We would not have booked this resort on our own. There was a awful smell of sewer as we walked around the resort.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: great vacation spot

Great resort with the best food we have had in all southern vacations. The grounds, pool, rooms are kept immaculately clean, the atmosphere is relaxed, efficient and well staffed. The beach was lovely, although the ocean was quite "rough" in this area. We always found pool or beach side chairs, which was a pleasant change from many resorts. The resort is very large, so be prepared for the exercise. We loved it. A chain of this size should not gouge quests by adding 15% to currency exchange. Do not take Canadian cash - US cash only, bring small denominations for tipping, as the front desk gives only 100 peso bills - very annoying. Excursions are very overpriced for the quality received. If your are a early riser, a decent coffee can't be found. The lobby coffee "machine" malfunctioned or needed service 5 out of 7 days. Very annoying to those who were bussing out at 6:00 am. Great place, incredible buffet food, wonderful staff.

Puerto Plata Village: Puerto Plata Village resort

Rooms are OK but the furniture is old not really functional ( they don't have separate cupboards ) and the washrooms are somehow not really functional. But the pool area was OK, also the food,and the services.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: great well organized place

The resort is nice, well organized, one bar closer to pool, one on the beach. Clean rooms, and all area. They took towels in the morning and bring clean one afternoon, it was a little bit inconvenience, specially on the beginning. Variety food for each meal, more in the resort. On a beach restaurant, less variety but still were some options. Great entertainment every nights. A lots of activity during the day, like dance lesson in a resort and on the beach, basic Spanish class, activities for chi [... read more]ldren, sports, fun activities on a beach. Well organized trip around the Puerto Plata. Very bad agent from Air Canada, he arranged to meet with us few times , but he did not come. He appeared only to pick us from airport.

Very friendly staff at all levels well kept grounds and facilities fantastic food at all restaurants rooms nice safe and always cleaned on time no issues with water no problems with beach towels or finding space at the beach or pool Transat rep very friendly and provided a fantastic welcome brief

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Restful Week!!

I got back yesterday from Riu Bachata. We had a great time! We never left the resort - we ate, slept, swam, drank, beached and sunbathed - then did the whole thing again the next day. The food was good. The steakhouse is not great, and we did not like the menu so did not try the caribbean a la carte. But we DID eat at the Italian restaurant 3 times - it was by far the best! Lunches can be had at any of the 3 resorts, but breaky and dinner only at your own property. Mambo had the best lunches. The beach is beautiful, but the swimming is only so-so as the only posted swimable beach is at the far end of the 3 hotels (in front of the Riu Village or what was before known as the Mambo. The ocean floor is quite uneven and weedy even in the posted area. There are also a couple of quite visible rip-tides which are not well signed and we felt were quite dangerous. There is NO lifeguard on this beach, and it's more than a kilometer long. Winds were very high all week, redflagged. And there is no catamaran to borrow, only windsurfing, paddleboats and kayaks. They only let those into the water Sunday afternoon. We tried to go diving, but the weather was not in our favour. One of the nicest things is that there are no palapas on the beach - all of the shade is natural from the existing trees. And there is PLENTY of shade, even very close to the water. It made for a very beautiful landscape. The trees and gardens all over the resort are mature and impeccably maintained. Only a couple of glitchy bits - in order to book an ala carte, you had to be at the desk by 7 am or it would fill up before you got a chance to reserve. Reservations were almost always done before 8am for both sittings in all restaurants. Makes for a very early morning while on holiday. The other glitch was that there was no available porter service for the morning we left as the porters didn't start till after we had to be checked out of the room. Safes and rooms were both key-locked, not coded or carded. Meant we had to carry both with us always. We had room 1219 - on the 2nd of 3 floors, facing the beach and Cruiseship port next door to the Bachata. The view was great and private and quiet. We also had a nice real kingsized bed (not two doubles pushed together). Rooms also come with a fully functional self-dispensing bar which they keep filled, as well as water well stocked in the bar fridge. We would return, though I think we'd prefer a more swim-friendly beach next time. If swimming isn't a priority, we would highly recommend this property.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Nice resort

Nice pool, clean resort, friendly people, food was decent, liked all three a la carte restaurants, had to asks for towels to be brought to room on arrival, only received one washcloth the entire week, room was cleaned daily, poor communication to guests if any transfer information has changed. Very poor wifi in lobby. Lots of vendors/time shares trying to sell you things ALL the time, hard to walk down the beach in peace due to salespeople wanting to try to sell you something.

Grounds were beautiful, food was good, many stairs to climb and a lot of walking, pools were beautiful and clean, beach was just fair...always windy especially in the evening, rooms were nice...had hot water most of the time, were clean and had nice balconies
