Catalonia Montego Bay: 3 out of 5 star resort
This resort is only OK. Theres nothing special about it. Its a 10 minute ride from the airport. We booked a standard room for 2 adults and 2 kids under the age of 2. We asked to have a crib brought to our room which had metal bars and a mattress that was too small, there was a gap between the bars and the mattress so my 6 month old slept in bed with us. The room was small and I was a little disappointed so we asked to upgrade to a suite, it would cost an extra $150 per night, but we never did it[... read more]. If you want a seat at the beach or pool you have to get up around 6am to put your towel down to reserve it. The ocean is SO shallow here, but good for kids. The sand is free of anything sharp and sand fleas. The food is OK. Nothing special to me. They dont know how to cook potatoes because they were always undercooked. The worst part of my vacation is that we went for lunch and came back to a room smelling so strongly of bleach that it hurt our eyes, our kids couldnt be in the room. Upon further inspection there was bleach stains on 5 articles of brand new clothing! We went to the manager and she said they dont clean with bleach. We went upstairs with her to talk to the maid who admitted she cleaned with bleach. We were refunded the value and put into a suite for the night. The suite was a really nice room and I recommend getting one. It had a living room, bedroom, bathtub and separate shower.

Rooms on the Beach Negril: Wonderful location!
The resort was good. The rooms and grounds were clean. The beach is simply beautiful. You will not regret attending this location. There are plenty of restaurants for lunch and dinner walking distance from Rooms. As with all vacations, there were a few issues which were quickly resolved. The staff were wonderful. We walked to town on a few days (approx 25 minutes one way on the beach). Plenty of establishments have entertainment (karaoke, live bands, jam sessions). Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Great Family Resort
The resort had beautiful grounds and staff were very welcoming upon arrival. We travelled with 3 year old and 8 month old and were very pleased at the amenities offered for our family.
Beach: We spent a lot of time at the waterpark and the beach. The water was a little rocky but didn't hinder our experience at all and learned easily where to situate to avoid rocks and wade in sandy bottom. Lots of shade on the beach too.
Rooms: Rooms were clean and housekeeping was pleasant. A little[... read more] wear and tear but nothing that we couldn't overlook. The only compliant is the carpet in hallways has seen better days and probably should go. We had a great balcony and location was perfect in the 18000 section.
Food: The food at the buffet was ok. We always found a few good things to eat but did become repetitive at times. We always found variety that suited everyone in the party. We tried 3 of the specialty restaurants...Italian, Teppanyaki, French. We had much better meals at these restaurants and would highly recommend any of them.
Drinks: Not all bars were properly stocked but was always able to get a drink. They had lots of options and found no issue.
Entertainment: As we had young kids we didn't see much of nighttime entertainment. We did the limbo night and beach party through the kids club and they were fun. We tried doing beach Olympics. The staff were good with kids but seemed a bit disorganized. Lots of waiting to decide what to do next.
We would recommend this to other families with young kids.

Sunscape Cove: Sunscape Cove was an awesome escape!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Sunscape Cove. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the resort was very clean, the food was great, entertainment was good, what more could we ask for! My only disappointment was the amount of seaweed in the Ocean but that is nothing they can control!

Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters: Will be returning!
I read reviews therefor I think it's important to write one myself. I have been on many all inclusive vacations and I feel I have a pretty honest opinion. In this vacation only my husband and I went.
First off I wanted to say the staff were awesome. Everyone greeted us with a friendly smile and would ask if we needed help with anything. From the entertainment staff, bar staff, waitresses/waitors, greeters, front desk, bell boys, pool staff, everyone just seemed to love their job!
The foo[... read more]d was great! We tried most of the restaurants. Our favourites were the Tex-Mex and Italian. The buffet had lots of different choices and the quality was super. They also offer jerk chicken at the hut by the beach and you are able to order from the sports bar all afternoon/evening and pizza from the Italian restaurant during lunch and they would deliver to your spot by the pool/beach ;)
The beach was clean but on the smaller side. You are able to use both blue waters and white sands side of the resort. The pools were always kept clean. The biggest upset is that we had to get up early to find seats by the pool (like most resorts). There isn't a limit to how many towels you can take so a lot of people would take numerous chairs in the morning. The "no reserving" rule was not enforced. The adult pool by the beach however was enforced and children were asked to swim in different pools. The splash pad looked amazing as well as the slides and lazy river. We would love to bring our kids back for that reason.
Okay now the rooms... we were not thrilled with our room. Our air conditioner didn't work, our toilet wouldn't flush and our phone didn't work. The toilet was fixed right away but the phone and air conditioner could not be fixed so we moved rooms. Unfortunately we were moved to a smaller room with no sitting area and an extremely small bathroom. We aren't ones to complain too much so if you can get past that the rooms are smaller than other resorts then you are ok. We don't spend much time inside anyway. The bed was like a cloud! So comfortable. Balcony was small as well.
Overall we loved the resort. It was kept clean and was the perfect size for us. Lots to do and not too far to walk. We would love to bring our kids back next time.
Entertainment was fabulous. Always great shows!!
Coffee...my favourite!!

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Wouldn't go back.....
This resort is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are immaculate. The rooms, restaurants and washroom facilities are super clean! The rooms are stunning and the view incredible. There were more than enough beach towels and beach chairs available at all times. With this being said our experience was less than memorable for a 5 star resort. My Mom is a second time cancer survivor and we live an ordinary life. She is on pension and I survive on one income. We do not struggle but going on a vac[... read more]ation for us means rolling our pennies and dipping into our savings accounts. When my Mom survived colon cancer we decided to go to a 5 star resort and were treated like royalty. The service was over the top and we were hoping to do it again someday. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and was recently given a clean bill of health so we decided to go to Jamaica....someplace we had both always wanted to visit but could never afford. We decided you only live once! Our flight was delayed 5 hours so once we arrived at the airport we got on the bus for a one hour ride. The staff was waiting for the 3 busloads of tourists with clipboards in hand. We were given a 2 minute orientation with no information about the resort, we were asked to fill out the information sheet and then provided with room keys. There were bell hops and butlers everywhere but none left to assist my 72 year old Mother and myself with our luggage. I asked my Mom not to touch her luggage but being stubborn she grabbed it and wound up falling over the ramp landing on her back. There was no staff there to assist. I helped her up and we made our way through the Luxury Lobby. Her bruises and injuries were substantial but she did not want to make a spectacle as she is a proud woman. A staff member finally grabbed her suitcase and guided us to our room. As it was late we went to get a bite to eat. Returning to our room we unpacked and got in our pj's to discover the air conditioner did not work. We called and two repairmen were sent to fix it. I asked if they wanted a shot of rum. They agreed and said it would be fixed soon. They said it was fixed then I gave them a bottle of rum instead of a drink being so grateful. Turns out they lied. There was still no air. We called and another repairman was sent who removed the motor explaining that we would have to change rooms. The nite manager showed up and we had to pack everything and get changed. My Mother was exhausted as it was now midnite. We were in the airport at 6 am that morning. We finally got settled in a room with one bed not two as we originally had. The nite manager said we could switch in the morning. When they called we decided the bed was more than big enough and had already lost a day and didnt feel like packing again. The next day we went to the beach on the luxury side which was more like a wading pool. We had to get our own drinks as there were no servers available to us. We tried to reserve a la carte restaurants but were told to go online. When we did we could not get anymore reservations. We ate in two a la cartes on the luxury side which were okay and tried to get more but were told there was nothing that could be done. We had to eat at the buffet every nite. Not my idea of 5 star. The service was okay and a few of our waiters and waitresses were over the top but for the most part it was mediocre. The hostesses were amazing specifically Janele. We then got lured into the time share presentation with the representative roping us in indicating it was a tenth anniversary celebration. We didnt realize it was a time share. When we got to the buffet my Mom was not feeling well and we told the time share rep we had to leave. She was more than upset and we had difficulty getting a ride back to the room so she could rest. The reps in the Luxury Lobby snarled and gave us dirty looks each morning thereafter....what a warm Jamaican welcome. Nobody asked how my Mother was feeling. Seriously??? We went to the Air Canada Orientation which only promoted excursions and gave no mention of the amenities we were entitled to. We booked two private excursions both with the same guide......he didn't talk. The first excursion he did provide a history etc but the trip back and the second excursion he did not talk explaining he was having a hard life.....what the ????? How not impressed we were. We spent most of our time on the beach where we constantly had to serve ourselves. We tipped all of the staff generously and were always pleasant. I love sailing and approached one of the sailors on the beach who said I had to pay him 40 dollars. I told him it was free for me and he said only if I sailed alone. I gave him the money and he put it in his pocket. Should I not have filled out a waiver? Something? To protect the resort in the event something went wrong??? I talked to the Air Canada rep and he suggested I go back and explain that it was all included and he said he would give it back right away. I did that but he refused stating it was required to pay for his services. Needless to say I did not get to sail again. Would you trust someone like this??? The lifeguards were super friendly but most of the other staff were unapproachable. We did make our way into the village where the casino was and the bartender was super! Probably one of the nicest staff members on the resort. With no guidance at all in regards to the amenities etc we took it upon ourselves to have one of the bellhops take us for a tour of the resort. He willingly took us around explaining everything to us. His name was Shak? He was super. We had trouble getting facecloths, towels and bathmats everyday. We requested shower caps more than once and never got any. One day we were getting ready to go to the beach and a maid knocked on the door. I told her we would be gone in 5 minutes. She pushed her way in the room and said she only had our room to do on this floor and was doing it now. She grabbed the tip money off the bed and continued to make it up while we were there. I was completely stunned. I have never experienced anything like this at a 5 star. We found out on the last day when one of the staff members asked us if she could interview us that we should have had butler service and asked how it was. Butler? What Butler? We waited and waited but never did see or hear from one. We never got turndown service and the one time we got room service it was okay but I still cannot believe you can get nothing but toast with all inclusive room service. This is 5 star? I wish my Mom would have had a more memorable time but she was thoroughly disappointed. What a way to celebrate being cancer free. Life is short. I will not visit Jamaica again.

Couples Tower Isle: Great Resort with Some Issues
This was our second visit to the resort. We love the resort but we did have issues with our room this time. When we booked the trip we requested that our room be located close to the room of friends that we were travelling with. When we checked in I noticed that our room numbers were very different. When asked why they explained that they gave our friends an upgrade but not us. We were quite disappointed but checked into our room and unpacked. After a few hours we realized the air conditioning i[... read more]n our room was not working properly. They sent a repair man and after some discussion we were assigned another room. This room was smaller and at the other end of the resort. The room had a great view but there were issues with the shower water temperatures. The water temperature would become very hot without warning. Last year booked an Ocean Premiere Room and had no issues. This time we booked a Deluxe Oceanview. Next time I would think twice before booking this room category. The resort does need to renovate the rooms. The nightly entertainment could also be improved because it's often very dated. Saturday night was the worst night. The staff here are very friendly. The free activities- scuba, snorkelling trips and excursions keep us coming back. The food is also very good. We will likely go back again but some improvements could be made to make this resort even better. My review last year would have been much better.

Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach: Iberostar beach
This resort overall was very good. There is one buffet and 3 a la carte, the food is good with a wide variety, there is something for everyone. The beach is beautiful although if you don't want to be bothered by Jamaicans selling stuff, do not go early morning or after 5pm or so as that is when it seems they are allowed to be there...during the day you only see them at the ends of the beach resort past the pier, and after the grand resort. Rooms were clean and bed was quite comfortable, no p[... read more]roblems there. There are a few little shops, try not to forget the necessities like sunscreen, bug spray (is going on excursion). As quite expensive, I purchased a bottle or off bug spray for $20 us, gulp! And troat losanges for $12 us for a pack...although halls were ok price...

Riu Reggae: Riu Reggae
Very much enjoyed our holiday. It was our first visit to Jamaica. The staff at this resort stand out as exceptional. The service staff, the entertainment, the cleaning staff ( I have never experienced such immaculate pool side rest rooms) were what would make us return. The resort is attractive, though on the small side for what we are used to. For some this would be a plus. We really appreciate that you don't need to reserve for sit down restaurants!! Buffet had theme nights and was good on the occasions we ate there. One last note : we read reviews where people hated planes flying over- they do, however the short ride from the airport totally outweighs that for us!!
Great vacation! The staff were very friendly, accommodation was modern and clean and the food/drinks were great. The beach area was sheltered from the waves and well marked to avoid deep or rocky areas. The pools had great swim up bars and the wait time wasn't too long at the bar. We appreciated that there were several security guards to stop locals from coming up onto beach and selling trinkets to the tourists.
The Japanese teppanyaki was excellent! I would highly recommend everyone book th[... read more]at restaurant.
Our package was booked through Air Transat. They made travel to and from the resort simple and well organized. We had no issues whatsoever and they had plenty of staff at the airport/resort to ensure you had a good stay.
One thing that the hotel could have done better was replace shampoo, soap, conditioner etc every day as opposed to upon request.

Riu Ocho Rios: Very good entertainment and food
The staff were excellent. Spending time with Sheldon playing horseshoes was awesome. The buildings themselves were a little dated, but comfortable with a colonial atmosphere. The food selection was excellent, particularly in the buffets and the steakhouse. The entertainment was fantastic, and was full of variety. The shows were something new and interesting every night.

Quiet resort. Just what the doctor ordered. Service was great. Entertainment was great and varied
Rooms were clean

We found that the food wasn't as varied as was last year. The only issue I had is the staff that aren't very generous when they are serving portions i.e. Roast beef or chicken. Very niggly

Dreams Rose Hall: Amazing Hotel! Great staff! Kids loved it!
Wonderful Hotel! Great staff! Great food! Lots to do! Amazing! We would go back in a heartbeat!!! Kids had a blast at the lazy river and waterslides! Beach was beautiful! Resort was spotlessly clean , grounds were beautiful. Rooms all have great views!
It is the first time that I have to write a negative review.
Departure flight: Perfect. On time. The shuttle bus was supposed to drop us at the resort after a 40-45 minutes drive. Instead he went all the way to almost ochos Rios. Result we ended up with a bus ride of 2 hours instead of 40-45 minutes.
When we finally arrived at our resort between 4:00-4:30, our room wasn't ready. We went to eat and went back 2 times at front desk. Still at 5:30 our room wasn't ready. Meanwhile I tried[... read more] to book for restaurant. No luck there either. Had to come back.....
Our room was beach front. I think it was more like weed front. Our part of the beach was so not clean. The washed up weeds on our part of the beach were at one time about 1 feet high.
The personnel at this resort is not well supervised and or trained. They don't know what there supposed to do. The bartender ladies one night were hiding behind the cooler so they wouldn't be seen by the costumers.
Food was not terrible. Most of the time it was cold and let's say, no variety at all at the buffet. Buffet was always late to open. Not even the coffee in the morning. 25 minutes in the morning to get one egg ! Don't ask for a grilled cheese for breakfast... They don't do any special request at any time. You eat what is in the buffet and that is it.
Room was ok. Simple and clean. It needs updating but still is OK. Everyday I had to ask the cleaning lady for something. Either she forgot to refill the coffee, the drinks in the fridge, the face cloth or to sweep the balcony floor.
Pool: Water was murky. It's a good thing I prefer the ocean because I would not have gone in the pool. It didn't look clean at all.
Forget about entertainment. It was almost non existent. No water sports equipment at all. The piano bar !!! Well after 7 days at the resort, I never saw it open. So if anybody knows where it was hiding, please let us know.
Not much music other than at night.
This resort is to my opinion no more than a 2.5, and advertised as a 3.5. I have been to a 3.5 in Jamaica 2 years ago and service, food, entertainment and everything else was perfect compared to this place.
Result: Very disappointed. All 4 of us. The only perfect thing about this trip was the weather. Sunshine all over. And also There was this little bar on the beach after the 2 Royalton resorts. Rosie's Bar. Laid back, Canadian cold red stripe beer and a cool Blanco and Rosie for company. That is the Jamaica that I fell in love with.
I would recommend if you still want to go to Mangos to pay no more then
1 000.$ all included. It is not worth more.

Couples Negril: Showing its age
Great beaches, great staff. Fun casino night!!
Changes that are not so great: Having to sign up days ahead to go to a
more elegant dinner or as informed get there early in the morning to guarantee an evening 2 days hence. Managed to only get there once in 7 days...not good since there is only 1 alternative option. Cannot/do not want to do a buffet supper/dinner. Stopped going to other resorts because of these limitations.
