They changed our room 3 times during our stay. (7day) we are continuous moving from one room to the other the hotel leaks water from roof do not recommend. The staff barely speak English and all they want is tips.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Awesome Beach!
If spending hours in the azure water, going for long walks along a pristine beach is what you're looking for, then you'll definitely love this place. The resourt is great, the staff is friendly, the nature is unspoiled.
The only minor problem I personally had is the lack of fresh green vegetables, but this would be the same in any place in Cuba. The meats, fish and seafood is plentiful though, so nobody goes hungry.

Playa Costa Verde: 3rd Time at PCV -- Major Disappointment
Overall, this was not a good trip. This was my third visit to PCV, this time travelling with my husband and each of our mothers. We booked back in October for one week Dec 6-13. Settle in -- this is going to be a thorough review ;-)
Rooms: I requested an “accessible room” for our mothers as they are each in their late 70s and have some mobility issues and safety concerns. They did not have one ready upon arrival, so, on day two, we had to move the moms to a very run-down (albeit “accessible”)[... read more] room.
The front door and the deadbolt were both very difficult to open (sticking). The mirrors in the bathroom were all broken and chipped around the edges, as were the tiles. There were large, thick spider webs collecting bugs in the corners, and there were no blankets on the beds.
As for our room, we paid for a king bed, but got two doubles. Front desk staff informed us that there were no king bed rooms, but we could check in with them daily to see if any would open up. Preferring to avoid the hassle and not wanting to move all our things mid-trip, we decided to stay put.
The electrical outlets in the room did not work properly -- either pumping little to no current, or far too much current (causing my hair dryer to overheat in seconds).
Overall, the room was clean. The mattresses and pillows have been upgraded since my last visit, and were quite comfortable. Towels and sheets were clean. AC worked really well. Balcony was large and comfortable. Fridge and TV worked.
We went without hot water for 24 hours, and our water was shut off completely for about 12 hours one night.
We were also locked out of our rooms without warning. Apparently the staff replaced the batteries in all the door locks, which meant we had to go to the front desk to reprogram our keys. We had no warning this was going to happen. Thankfully, our housekeeper let us in after breakfast and told us what was going on.
Food & beverage: I was fully aware that the islands are experiencing food shortages, and I also know that you don’t travel to Cuba for the food. That said, in previous years, I’d never complained about the food, and no one ever went hungry. I can’t say the same for this trip.
We had eggs on our first morning, and never again. There was no bacon or sausage or other breakfast meats. There were crepes (made with powdered eggs, I presume), but no toppings -- no fruit, jelly or syrup. There were packets of butter for bread the first few days. When that ran out, we were given chunks of lard disguised as butter. The rest of the buffet consisted of the previous night’s dinner.
Lunch was similar at the buffet, serving remnants of previous meals, little to no fresh fruits or veggies. If you could get fresh fish at the hot counter before it ran out, that was tasty. Pair it with some rice and cooked cabbage, and you could call it a meal.
The snackbar had fried fish from time to time, but it ran out very quickly. We were only able to snag some once on our last day. One day for lunch, the snackbar only served a ham and cheese sandwich, which came with one slice of cucumber and a few strands of cabbage on the side. No butter, no mayo, just dry white toast with a slice of bologna (what they call ham) and a slice of cheese. Other items at the snackbar sometimes included a tuna or chicken salad sandwich, Hawaiian pizza, ham and cheese pizza, hot dog and “chips,” which we couldn’t identify -- fried plantains perhaps?
Buffet dinners started out as what I’d expected, but declined daily. The pasta bar was fantastic -- but the woman working it was sick (even lost her voice) and was seen coughing and hacking all over the food. I’m quite certain that’s where we picked up what we now know to be Covid. The fish station was good, too, but quickly ran out of supply. The rest of the buffet was mediocre at best. Still, if you weren’t “picky,” you wouldn’t go hungry.
There seemed to be a shortage of flatware, glasses and cutlery. On numerous occasions we served ourselves ice cream on a hot plate, which we ate with a fork. But the ice cream was delicious! Desserts were what you’d expect; lots of pastries and squares, jello and rice pudding.
The Italian restaurant was not worth our time. The food was cold and bland. The pasta station at the buffet was better.
The Japanese restaurant was AMAZING. Raul, our chef, was delightful -- interactive, comedic, just a ton of fun. And the food was spectacular! We had rice with veggies, chicken, beef and shrimp -- all cooked with sauces (garlic, soya, etc.).
Steakhouse was not open. Cigar lounge did not sell cigars.
Clean drinking water was in short supply. Now, if you’ve ever been to Cuba, that may not come as a surprise. Each room was supplied with a 4L bottle of water, which was meant to last two people for 7 nights. We are not wasteful, and we are not greedy. But when I tell the front desk that my husband is sick and needs to hydrate, I expect to be given clean drinking water. Instead, I was told “I’ve made the report, and we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.” Not good enough (sorry, not sorry).
Adequate amounts of clean drinking water is not a luxury, it’s a necessity -- particularly if you’ve picked up a virus.
Even the bar and buffet began serving tap water mid-way through our trip, telling us they had run out of bottled water.
Beach: Gorgeous. By far, the highlight of our trip. You’ll find a beach bar, restrooms and lots of non-motorized water toys. There was always someone there to help us find a spot along the beach and set up our chairs, which was a nice touch. If you’re allergic to bug bites, though, watch out for the noseeums (they mostly come out at night)! I didn’t have any trouble with them, but I saw lots of people covered in welts. That’s not a reflection on the resort, that’s just Mother Nature doing her thing!
Pool: The pool was as I remembered. Considering it had been shut down for renovation, however, I wasn’t all that impressed. It certainly didn’t appear to have been “renovated,” but we weren’t bothered by that. We were just happy it was open.
The activities around the pool weren’t what I remember. There used to be poolside bingo (I even won a bottle of rum once!), obstacle courses, and all kinds of silly fun games at the pool. This time, there was 3 pin bowling and velcro darts (I think). No prizes and very few participants. The so-called dancing lessons consisted of a group of workers forming a private circle to entertain themselves. And the aquafit class was little more than two workers waving their arms in the air to music.
The swim up bar was lacking supplies as well. The frosty machines weren’t running, and the bartenders weren’t interested in creating tasty fruity beverages. Our options were beer, Cuba libre, or rum punch. Most of the staff were personable. Jesus, on the other hand, was quite sarcastic and rude to guests on more than one occasion.
Smaller pool next to main pool is currently under renovation. One jacuzzi is fully drained, the other is filled with cold water.
Service: Most of the staff were wonderful. The lobby servers, and bartenders were all fabulous, as were the housekeepers.
The front desk staff, on the other hand, left something to be desired. They were short-tempered and seemed genuinely annoyed with guests. They were dismissive and unhelpful. But they certainly snapped to attention when their blue towels went “missing.” Suddenly, two staff members were right there, preventing us from boarding the bus to go home, demanding to know where our mothers’ beach towels were. Spoiler alert: the towels were left in the room.
Our Sunwing rep was fantastic, very helpful, fun and always eager to please. The tour guides and bus drivers were also great.
Entertainment: Or lack thereof … we spent 7 nights, and only saw two shows -- one in the theatre and one in the pool. It would have been helpful to see a schedule of when and where shows were happening throughout the week.
Resort feedback:
Provide a board of some sort in the lobby to let guests know when they can expect to see which evening shows
Provide a 48-hour weather forecast (wind, rain, sun, etc.) at the front desk so guests can plan their days
Communicate with your guests about scheduled maintenance and service disruptions
Tips for guests:
Bring your own food (cured meats, protein bars, chips, nuts, peanut butter, condiments, spices).
Have lunch at the restaurant down by the beach!
Have dinner at the Japanese restaurant (more than once!)
There’s a hut by the pool where you can trade your used blue towel for a fresh one
Do not trade Canadian or American dollars for pesos - there’s no need. You can pay for everything (including tips) with a Canadian credit card, debit or debit Visa, or CAD / US cash. (They don’t take credit cards that are affiliated with the US -- Amex, Capital One, etc.)

Starfish Cayo Largo: Fantastic vacation
The resort is very clean. The restaurants and buffets have a very good variety of meals and the food is delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, always smiling. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. There is free wifi throughout the resort, even on the beach. The beach is breathtaking, white sand and turquoise water. I look forward to going back soon.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Should be closed!
I booked my trip with you in approximately September to depart on December 7th for 7 days to Hotel Camino Del Mar in Cayo Guillermo Cuba. I booked at this hotel about 8 years ago and loved it, so I didn't have any reason to investigate or ask about any problems.
We have been at the Hotel Camino Del Mar for 18 hours and I am utterly disgusted with this place.
Our arrival
. Welcome drink - brown powdered juice with rum
. Wait an hour for the room to be ready
. Walk the entire resort to fin[... read more]d 1 other couple
. The place is empty!
. At 1:00 the restaurant opened for lunch - 1 meat 1 rice and 2 other selections - I left and went to the 24-hour snack bar
. Nothing was available at the snack bar but a chicken sandwich - this consisted of mixed skin, fat, grizzle and a piece of white meat on a dinner roll with a slice of cucumber.
. One whole side of the pool is green with algae and fur
. Bar .. again no mix available but brown powder juice
-beer only
We get our room
. No one helps us with our bags
. We had to carry them up 3 flights of stairs
. This room was not what we asked for! It should have been an ocean-view king bed. This room had 3 twin beds.
. The balcony door did not open- the lock was all broken and jammed
. There is no hot water in the entire resort!
We arrived at the resort around 12:30 lunch and there was hardly any food until dinner at 7:00 pm
Dinner -7-9
. One small table that Consisted of brown rice, fish full of bones, pasta with no sauce and a couple of other small things that I don’t know what they were. Everything was cold!
No wine, or coffee with dinner only brown powdered juice with no flavour.
WE WERE STARVING!
Night time entertainment
. When we came out of the dinner at 7:20 - it was pitch black outside!!
No lights in the entire resort except the lobby!! We had to use our phone flashlight to navigate ourselves back to the room without being hurt.
No entertainment at night or anywhere in the resort
We went to bed at 7:45 pm out of no choice of our own.
Morning Breakfast.
I woke up and went for coffee at the wonderful espresso bar. NO COFFEE!
That was it! I went to the manager and asked him what he was going to do about this situation. We did not pay $2,000 for this!
He said we could move to the resort next door called Iberostar Daiquiri. We could get there by paying for our cab or bus. We also could walk as it was a kilometre down the road. We dragged our heavy luggage down the road and walked into the Iberostar where we were greeted and treated like we should have for a Cuban all-inclusive resort. I applaud Iberostar for saving the guests who were all booked at Camino Del Mar.

Grand Memories Varadero: Not what we expected!!!!
First off, I never criticize any resorts in Cuba. I've been there over 20 times and understand the situations they face in that country. That being said, I was very disappointed in the service and lack of variety in the food. I stayed at a different resort in April, 2022 and had a much better experience(food, staff and everything in general). The covid excuse has warn it's welcome with me and feel the resorts should be more prepared than this one was. Calling it "Grand" Memories is a overstateme[... read more]nt. Staff was not friendly, cleaning ladies arguing while cleaning the rooms (literally yelling at each other across the hallways), and then still not cleaning the room until 4 or 5 o'clock. Now the food, things are always a little scarce in Cuba but this is the first time I never had one piece of chicken and only had a omelet once for breakfast, was told no eggs only pancakes. And we paid extra for the Diamond Club!!! I stayed at Club Tropical right in the town of Varadero and never had these issues. Needless to say I won't be going back and won't recommend it to anyone. Oh yeah, we found huge cockroaches in our room on the last day...nasty!!

Starfish Jibacoa: An excellent resort
This resort is really better than many critics claim it to be. The room/bungalow that we had was obviously dated and because of dampness the walls were shedding paint. Location was an hours drive from Varadero. The resort ,its layout and location were really good. The beach was great. For what we paid, the service and food were well over what we expected. Food was indeed repetitious but there was choice of four/five meats. Two grills going all the time. Bar- Never had a problem with any drinks .[... read more]Everything was available. The only problem we had was the weather. We encountered TWO storms. That's cannot be controlled. In general the staff were excellent throughout the resort.
For what you pay compared to other resorts it is definitely a 5 star. If your looking for caviar and stuff you are in the wrong place.

Starfish Varadero: Horrible, BED BUGS
I stayed in Star Fish Varadero in 2nd of week of December 2023.
Food is as good or bad as any other hotel in that region. Beach: Great, white sand beach, clean and shallow, access to beach is perfect.
Location with respect to Varadero: Not convenient. You have to take a taxi and each way the cost is around $25 US.
Hotel Cleanliness: Floors, rooms and lobby areas were clean.
Pest Issues: Horrible. I was eaten alive by BEDBUGS. I also noticed that at least three more guests were troubled b[... read more]y BED BUGS.
Customer Service: Below standard. When I went to the lobby to meet Hotel Manager, he tried to avoid me. Finally, after at least 4 hours wait, I was able to meet hotel manager. The Hotel Manager tried his best to convince me that these hundreds of Bed Bug Bites on my legs and arms, were in fact caused by mosquitoes. In Canada, I consulted my doctor, who confirmed that these bites were caused by BED BUGS. I was also told that Star Fish Hotel Manager was aware of infestation of Bed Bugs in the hotel. I was not the first one to complaint about BED BUGS.
Bed Bugs are notorious to hide in clothes, furniture, luggage, etc. In Canada, I immediately, want to a laundry mart and washed all clothes. Bed Bugs can spread very quickly.
I will never stay in Star Fish Hotel. I could not sleep for three nights due to Bed Bug Bites.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Very nice pool
This place looks like it was a 4.( star resort 10-15 years ago. One of the biggest and nicest pools I’ve seen in a resort in Cuba with a nice deep end which I enjoyed. Otherwise everything is pretty dated and they’re doing contruction. The food was fine for Cuba. Really quiet. Wouldn’t recommend if you enjoy night life, after 5pm it’s a ghost town.
