Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Not a Good Experience at all
PROFILE:
A Senior who has been travelling to Cuba for the past 20+ years and so far have stayed at eight different resorts. Sometimes travel solo, sometimes as a couple, sometimes as a group. The visit from May 17th to May 24th we travelled as a group of three seniors and thee teenage and pre-teen children..We were joined three days later by another group of two adults and one pre-teen, we have all been to Cuba several times before.
SERVICE:
This resort offers two levels of Service, one[... read more] for 'Regulars' (not necessarily Diamond Club) who pretty well breeze through the resort, and another dis-interested level of service for First Time Guests (unless you start passing money around).
CHECK IN:
As new guests to this resort it took us over 24 hours to finally get the rooms we requested by e-mail, and were confirmed... Actually while we were dis-satisfied with the second set of rooms, we elected to just say in them rather than lose another vacation day moving. All of this despite two e-mails being sent ahead of time outlining our room requests. From the minute we arrived all we got from the Front Desk and the Sunwing Rep. was "Sorry" with no immediate resolutions to issues.
THE STATE OF THE RESORT AND CULTURE:
While the cosmetics of this resort were fine, the infrastructure had much to be desired. The bathrooms in the common area are disgusting. The phone in one of our two rooms never worked, and the lighting in the hallway on the second floor was none existent (extremely dark at night to the point we couldn't even see the locks on our doors)...Even though I made a report three times, the issue was never resolved until a 'Regular' (known to the staff as a big tipper) joined us three days later, made the same complaint, it was immediately looked after.
This 'Regular' and her party were also 'gifted' with the Diamond Club in exchange for certain 'electronic gifts' that were requested, and delivered.
The second set of rooms we were assigned were extremaly unhealthy, in the one room 2212 there was a constant smell of sewage that lingered near the entry door to the hallway... There was also that odor problem in our other room 2214, this time with the sink in the bathroom, the water would reek of sewage every time the tap was opened, you'd have to let it run for a while for the scent to dissipate. It is obvious there is a problem with methane gas in some of those rooms, we had to keep our balcony doors open most of the time to be sure we were breathing fresh air.
FOOD AND DRINK:
The food and drink were average. There was never a shortage of drinks anywhere on the resort, and the freshly prepared food stations in the buffet were a plus... but again accommodating six people always seem to be a problem, (it was even more of an issue when we were joined three days later by three more people)... on more than one occasion we had to literally do the job ourselves of joining two tables together, it always seemed to be an issue to get the staff to get our group seated. The A La Cartes seem to be better at seating groups.
BEACH / POOLS AND OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
In retrospect, while the beach was wonderful, and the pool system adequate, because this is not unique to Memories Flamenco Beach we will not be returning to this resort but will instead re-visit one of the other resorts we've gone to in the past, where even on our initial visits we were made to feel welcome, one where we didn't feel like we had to exchange 'gifts or money' for service... We are also hoping the next resort will be a lot more healty than this one.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Missed probably the one of our BEST Trip because of an emergency Surgery!
Unfortunately I missed this trip. I’m sure I’m not the first and won’t be the last who had to miss a trip due to an unexpected emergency. I've been a loyal customer each year but I feel as I'm not treated fairly.
As I have done every year around this same week, I planned ahead for this very important vacation and chose the two most trusted companies, Air Transat and Tripcentral. I paid for our trip through Tripcentral and contacted the resort managers with our requests.
We go away e[... read more]ach year during the same time to celebrate my birthday on May 12th, mother’s day which always lands on the second Sunday, and our wedding anniversary on the 14th. I unfortunately was unable to celebrate either of those this year. On May 8th I was rushed into the Hospital and had to be admitted for an emergency surgery.
Our daughter contacted Tripcentral and gave them all of our information. Their agent, Candice asked my daughter for a doctor’s note to follow up with Transat Holidays. Our daughter rushed to get a note from the surgeon, and emailed Candice as soon as she received it. Candice told us that based on Transat Holidays email to her, she cannot help because we paid ahead everything with cash and didn't purchase extra insurance.
They do a lot of advertisements, radio contests etc. and give away free trips for unknown people but how about if one of their loyal customer runs into trouble? They turn their back on them? I guess neither of those big companies has enough surpluses to offer any help like just some portions in vouchers or whatever just to be nice making a good day in a bad situation.....
In the hospital I checked the Resort's daily updated beautiful pictures and the great feedbacks. We really missed that trip!
I would like to maintain a good relationship with Air Transat & Tripcentral as we still plan to take vacations least once a year. I'm sure we have many years left for vacations. I would like to see if there is anything they will or try to do, as this was an emergency situation that we did not plan for, nor would ever expect.
Not only did we go through so much stress in the last few weeks, we also lost out on a great trip and was told we could only get back $60 for the two of us combined. What are we supposed to do with $60? The trip was almost $2100. I was incredibly disappointed that we weren't even able to switch the vacation into someone else’s name (like my daughter, for instance), or offered a credit via voucher. We felt that there wasn't any effort put into trying to help us. We also weren't asked if we would be able to reschedule the trip for a later time.
I guess humanity is lost for old customers but I would appreciate it if someone looked into this matter further for us. We spent a lot of money, and are not really satisfied with the outcome.
Thank you
Attila the HUN.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Not as advertised
The biggest disappointment is the lack of communication from trip central. The resort was only half open. There was extensive damage done to the resort. The room we were given wasn’t the room we booked and the ac wasn’t working. When we tried to switch rooms, we were unable because only half the resort was open and the rest was booked. So we spent the night sweating. A majority of the resort is still flooded. This causes a lot of swampy areas to form. If you don’t have bug spray then good [... read more]luck at night. This also caused the resort to be covered with frogs. Expect to step on a few a night as there are no lights on the paths in the resort. The food wasn’t the best but there was always something to eat. The al a cartes often didn’t have certain menu items available. There was poor communication through the front desk and other staff. We were given a late check out by the customers relation rep, but no one at front desk was aware. The safe in our room broke twice. Again we had to call a few times cause the message was never delivered to the technician. Except for the front desk the rest of the staff were always very friendly. The resort is advertised as a 4star. It’s a 3 Star at best in its current condition. And that’s only because the beach is very nice. And while the condition of the resort is no ones fault as it was due to the hurricane, tripcentral should be responsible to let you know exactly what to expect. If anyone plans on going I recommend calling ahead to find out how many rooms are available as 4/5 people we spoke to had to change rooms at some point. And you don’t want to be stuck in an unsuitable room all week. Also try to get a room on the second floor as frogs, cockroaches and other bugs will try to crawl under your door on the first floor. Or cover the door with a towel.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful Beach at Memories Caribe
My husband & I stayed at the Memories Caribe May 5-12. Overall, we had a good time. The best part of the resort was the amazing Cayo Coco beach; just beautiful. The staff was very pleasant and the weather cooperated for the most part - lots of rain but lots of sun too. The coffee bar in the lobby was excellent. Our room was pretty basic but comfortable enough for the week. Our biggest issue was no hot water for at least 3.5 days but the maintenance crew seemed to be diligently working on th[... read more]e issue and they did get it resolved in the end. We enjoyed the buffet and also the pizza hut on the beach. Tried a couple of the a la cartes but found the food very disappointing and inedible in a couple of cases. Never did spend any time in the pool or the swim up bar; always seemed to be occupied with a rowdy group.
We'd definitely go back to Cayo Coco but perhaps not to the Memories Caribe!

Melia Costa Rey: Best time ever
Resort is modern, clean and quick drive from the airport....service was great, food was excellent, pool and beach were awesome!! Few people that really stood out were Riggler at the lobby bar, David who was our waiter at the seafood al acarte, Wilbert the bartender at the beach bar and Joseph who was the chef at the beach restaurant. All excellent employees and really added to making the trip that much more enjoyable...thank you very much!!!

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Ok Resort
My 12th time to Cuba. I was expecting a little more being an Iberostar resort. Maybe because of the last hurricane it would have been better. People in Cuba are the friendliest and here they were except the younger girl at the front desk. It took forever to get into our room the from lobby chairs were digusting you would not even want to sit on them. lots of rain and leaks in the back of lobby. Loose tiles or missing on the stairs. My friends room had mould on the woodwork, my room was OK. Th[... read more]e food was the 2nd worse I have had in Cuba same thing every day no bacon at breakfast, Entertainment was ok. The pool was clean and nice to sit at.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Amazing beach
This resort was great because of it's size. Everything was within short walking distance - beach, pool, bars, restaurant. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Entertainment was good too. This beach was totally amazing. I've stayed in cayo coco before but this beach definitely topped the last resort hands down.
Couple of negatives would be the smell in the rooms and that I was sick one night and part of the day. The rooms smelt very musty/mouldy. We should have asked to be moved and I'm[... read more] sure they would have accommodated but we stayed put. I was ill but my travel companions had no issues so I can only think of a piece of unwashed lettuce that I picked out of my plate. Recommend staying clear of lettuce

Melia Costa Rey: Pullman Cayo Coco DON'T GO
This was our first and last trip to Cuba. We waited 6 hours upon arrival to get our room. We had sewer back up in the halls , we had sewer back up in our shower . Most of the staff was unfriendly and lazy as there we dirty dishes and garbage all around the resort. The grounds were in terrible condition . The beach was terrible, too much sea weed on the beach. Too many broken shells. The French restaurant cooked our salmon so much it was grey and crunchy. The buffet was almost unedable and the fr[... read more]uit was all from a can...SAVE YOUR MONEY go elsewhere!!!

Melia Costa Rey: Very Good Hotel
Overall the hotel is very nice. The beach isn't the best, but that could be because of the hurricane season. The pools are very clean. Wish there was more entertainment around the pool. The room was very nice. I would go back again.

Hotel Mojito: Fantastic time!
My daughter and I stayed at the resort on April 20 for a week. The resort is very clean and our room was very spacious!
We really enjoyed the shows every night and all the beautiful, colourful costumes and the tempo. Just made you want to dance all the time!!
The food was good but, they just need to give a little more variety.
Even though part of the resort was damaged by the hurricane, the resort is very well maintained and the staff are wonderful and happy people!
We would definitely retur[... read more]n to this resort!

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Very beautiful resort
We visited this resort from April 29th - may 6, we had a very relaxing vacation, the hotel wasn’t at full capacity so no big line ups or lack of pool chairs. We chose to go to the beach in the afternoon, and had lots of shade available, the rooms spacious and great views of the ocean. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. I would return to this resort.
