Catalonia Riviera Maya: Catalonia Riviera Maya has an amazing atmosphere, food, entertainment, staff
The resort has excellent food, both in the buffet and restaurants, especially the Japanese restaurant.
Staff are hard working and attentive to requests.
The evening entertainment was excellent, the performers are detail orientated in their performances and facial expressions are superb, the performances start on time, the audience loves to participate, costumes are great, can't say enough about the team.
The rooms are clean, updated.
The pools are smaller (not meant for doing lap/lengt[... read more]h workouts) but good for aquatics.
The beach is small, good idea to bring water rubber shoes if you like to be in the sea; the weeds were cleared up within days despite the severe influx of weeds.

Bahia Principe Escape Tequila: Review feb2026
At this time, only two weak areas at this resort.
1) The beaches: due to weeds, the east beaches are marginal. Have to take a trolley to west end, but then no bars
2) cafeteria at Tequila: very inconsistent. Other restaurants are great

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Very nice clean resort
The resort was really nice. Not too big which we liked. Staff were constantly cleaning the pool area, grounds all the time. The beach wasn’t the greatest, small and lots of seaweed when we were there in end of Feb to beginning of March. Buffet food and À la carts were really good. Lots of food options and drink options. I would highly recommend this resort. Only thing I didn’t like was most the stores on resort required a credit card and didn’t take cash. Brought cash to only not be able to use [... read more]it most the time. Only for tipping.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa El Beso: Great resort
The grounds were very clean and kept up. Most of our past winter trips have been cruises so we were thrilled with this spacious room and outside terrace, which we haven’t had on cruises. The restaurants we went to were all great, the Japanese, Italian and Spanish. The buffet was very good with delicious food. My only concern with the food was there wasn’t cream with the coffee, only milk. It was hard to find a sun lounger and the beach had a lot of seagrass but we weren’t at either place ve[... read more]ry much so it wasn’t a big deal. I liked the layout of the resort and that it was an easy walk to everything.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: We loved our holiday!
This resort was amazing. I had read some negative things after I booked and they were unfounded. If you like animals and being in a lush setting this is the place to book. We saw monkeys daily. We ate at all 4 al a cartes during our one week stay. Another couple booked on here the same dates. No one was sick from the resort. We found it easy to get around with maps everywhere. The adult select was worthwhile since we weren’t travelling with kids and we used their private areas extensively. We fo[... read more]und it helpful to join a group site on Facebook to learn about the romantic boat ride, a must see fire show, Mexican night and chocolate party which were all included. Of the 5 previous trips to all-inclusives in Mexico this was our favourite with its mix of adventure and facilities. Staff treated you wonderfully. We didn’t leave the resort this time since we had done so in the past. The cenote for swimming and snorkeling was closed for rejuvenating but we were fine with that and it did not affect our vacation. Once the pH comes down it will reopen so no date has been set. One error on the description I noticed was it said separate check in for adults select. Due to staffing this is not the case.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Very good resort,
3rd time for us. Grounds are well kept, Staff is very friendly and mix well with guests.
Front desk are very good and helpful, but some could be better in the English language. Room was fine and our maid did a good job each day. Found out that there was a layoff of staff on March 1st which really affected the service in a negative way. Most guests attributed this to the takeover by Hyatt, later this month.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Very Misleading
We booked this resort because our dear friends have been to it 4 times and loved it!!!
Wow, where to begin! We spent the first day of our stay trying to get there. Between long layovers and connecting flights and very rude people butting in line, we didn't get our room until 5:00 am the following morning.(we were the last ones to get checked in out of two bus-loads of guests) there were only two people on the front desk out of 5 or 6 stations. After the majority of the guests were done with c[... read more]heck-in they would stay at the front desk and exchange money and hold up the line even longer with absolutely no consideration for the rest of us still in line, instead of getting their money the next day when there wasn't a long line-up.
The food was quite disappointing. we were under the impression the food here in Mexico and especially this resort was phenomenal from reading other reviews. Most of the food at the buffet was COLD and tasteless. Most of the signs for what type of food dish it was were very seldom changed so you never really knew what was in that container. And again the rudeness of people butting in an already formed line was disgusting. The only food item we found that was actually good was the homemade pizzas which you had to stand there and hover until the cook put them on the counter before the vultures would again butt in line and take sometimes 5 or 6 slices of each pizza. My wife has shellfish allergies and was very worried of cross-contamination of the food because guests would go from one station to another using the same utensil to dish up their food. On a couple of occasions I took some sliced processed meat to make a sandwich and when I took one slice off the pile, what was underneath it was green.
The beach for our resort was very short and rocky, not that it was the resorts fault. the water inside the roped-off area was only about thigh high and you weren't allowed to go outside the ropes.
The pool was ok but again not very deep anywhere. I could stand on my knees and still had my head and neck out of water. The resort had postings all around the pool and even made announcements not to reserve lounge chairs at the pool but if you went to the pool after 9 am forget getting a chair. Towels on every single chair. After the first couple of days, we would skip breakfast and go to the pool just to get a couple of chairs in the shade. The swim-up bar a lot of missing tiles on the front face of the bar which made that area very sharp and rough. The worst part was the same people every day would line the bar and stay there for most of the day, so getting a drink was a challenge. There was two pools side by side, the pool without the swim-up bar was for recreation(tossing a ball or frisbee) The other pool was supposed to be a relaxing area to have a drink and relax. Several times I had to go to bar and get a new drink because a football or frisbee would knock the drink out of my hand or hit me in the head causing me to lose my drink. TO PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN RAN RAMPANT: Your children are your reasonability, not the resorts.
Our room was nice and comfortable, but seemed that unless we tipped the room maid more money than we normally tip, our room wouldn't get cleaned until around 4:00 pm. once we started tipping a lot more, our room was cleaned before 11:00 am. ???????? (hint: learn how to make art with the towels on the bed once in a while. It goes a long way with the guests)
From my perspective this resort is grossly under-staffed and in need of some minor repairs. Also try to live up to your reputation for great food.
I informed the resort that we were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary and didn't even get a chocolate on our pillow. OH WELL.
We will not return to this resort. Sorry!

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Beautiful resort but ‘superior’ rooms need bathroom doors
The resort was beautiful and the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming.
However we booked what we thought was a superior room and sadly the bathroom didn’t have a door that closed. This is not ideal with 3 adults sharing the space, one of which has a disability.
Needless to say we were disappointed by this.

Grand Sunset Princess: Our stay at the Grand Sunset Princess
We recently stayed at Grand Sunset Princess All Suites Resort & Spa. The room itself was beautiful and very comfortable. Housekeeping was excellent and the staff cleaning the rooms were very kind.
The trolley staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The bartenders were amazing as well — they were always eager to make our drinks and offer snacks, and even when my kids went back multiple times throughout the day, we never felt like we were inconveniencing them.
The ice cream shop and buffet[... read more]s were great, and we really enjoyed the food overall. The sushi was surprisingly good and the pasta dishes were delicious. We also had no issues getting sick from the food or water during our stay, which was reassuring.
We also met the infamous Francisco, who truly made us feel like we mattered as guests. There were several other wait staff in the main buffet who treated us with the same kindness. I’m actually a bit sad we didn’t get to say goodbye to a couple of them before we left.
However, the minibar/drink restocking in the room was inconsistent and our bottled water wasn’t always replaced unless we asked. We also had an issue when calling about loud noise above our room and the call was disconnected instead of the concern being addressed.
Another challenge was getting small bills for tipping. The front desk repeatedly asked us to come back for change over several days but then said they had none. We were often told they were counting money and to wait or come back later, but after trying for about five days we eventually gave up because it became frustrating. The ATMs also seemed to dispense mostly large bills, which made it difficult to tip staff consistently.
We also noticed that the secondhand smoke rules didn’t always seem to be enforced. This became especially difficult once our family got sick with a cold, as we all have asthma and smoke exposure made things worse.
Grounds were kept immaculate, I have no complaints, and they tried their best to clear the sargassum. Also we felt safe, even going to 5th Ave for shopping! Taxi drivers were also kind and patient with us.

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Good resort, bad customer service
We've been to this resort before, and decided to go again due to the access, facilities, and variety of this resort. We go with a big group of 16 people and are always generous with our tips and interactions. The resort changed their access packages/policies after we booked, without informing people who had booked.
Upon arrival, our friends were all upgraded automatically to honour their package and access (2 families from general to family selection, 2 families from general to VIP). However[... read more], we were not. We arrived with a later flight, but on the same day. We were told by the front desk that it's because we didn't book through Expedia, but not all of our friends did. With the package/protocol in place, according to the front desk we had access to 1 pool, a very small area of the resort, and limited restaurants (2 restos, 1 buffet).
We ended up having to pay 840 USD extra to get the required access. They said they made a "special price", and we could have the upgrade for this amount instead of 1050 USD. It feels quite dishonest to gauge people for extra money when you're already there, otherwise limiting our ability to spend time with friends -- the exact reason we flew in for. Even though the resort and facilities are nice, this left a very bad taste for us.

Barcelo Maya Palace: High quality resort, great spot
I will keep this short. This resort is excellent in all aspects. Attractive and well-kept grounds, helpful staff, amazing food at multiple restaurants including each of the a la cartes, big enough to be able to spread out and find the experience you want. We loved our week and would rate this place 10/10. Thanks Barcelo Maya.

Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya: Nice small resort for families
Very cute small resort, perfect for families with young kids as they cannot go far out of your site. The hotel has amazing kids activities and the staff were incredible.
There is an issue with space in the pool as there really is only one pool with a small "hot tub" that apparently is supposed to be adults only but honestly the kids hang out in it. There was NOT enough seats arpund the pool or beach. Everythjng was saved for preferred. If you went over to their pool they had almost double the [... read more]amount of seats.
Beach was beautiful, white sand, they have a barrier so the waves and seaweed do not enter the swimming area. Swimming area is very shallow.
The room was good, lots of space- the "pull out couch" though was not great, hard on one side soft on the other and the bottom half would slide apart.
The food was okay, the restaurants were good but the buffet was mediocre at best- always the same foods and it was a small buffet. We always tried to get to a restaurant but if you didn't show up right at 6 or just before 6 it was 1.5 hours wait to get a table. Some of the evening entertainment was awesome! Some were mediocre.
Im not sure we would return here. But my kids had a great first all inclusive vacation.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Beautiful spot, incredible view. But…
This resort was amazing! The food was incredible, the views were stunning, the staff were very friendly.
My only complaint, twice while I was in the shower at 4pm getting ready for dinner, housekeeping came in to clean the room. Meanwhile, I come out in just a towel unknowing that they were there. It’s too late in the day to be cleaning the rooms.
Even though that happened, I would definitely return. The place was wonderful.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Great Resort
This resort has a lot going for it. Situated south of Playa del Carmen. Hotel is modern, and recently renovated. Rooms are clean, bright and spacious. Great shower, ample hot water and great water pressure. Bar with modest selection of soft drinks and beer serviced daily. Concierges book as many a la cartes as you wish. Food is above average, with surprising availability of quality steaks, cooked to perfection. We enjoyed t bone, rib, striploin and tenderloin. We have been to Mexico a dozen time[... read more]s, including twice previous to this resort, and never had food as good. The prime evening buffet has a great selection of food (although seemed always the same). Of note to us, the a la cartes served decent Spanish Red Wines at room temperature, and you could request same at the bars, although you might not get it there. Grounds are sprawling, and well maintained with lots of natural vegetation. Expect to see lots of birds and animals including coati, racoons, squirrels, agouti and monkeys, which unfortunately have become acclimatized to human interaction. Pools are clean, with ample lounges, except quiet pool which sees lots of pressure. Beach is ok. Struggle to keep up with the Sargassum. Interesting rock outcrops. Beach bbq lunches great! Lazy River is a fun bonus. Entertainment was ok.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: very disappointed
I went with my daughter, son-in-law and their 12 year old twins. One of the twins is disabled and unable to walk or stand without a walker. We asked for an accessible room and were given one farthest away from everything, and the only thing that was accessible was that it was on the ground floor. We had to take the trolley everywhere, too far for my grandson to walk anywhere, it was very difficult to transport him and his walker onto the trolley. After much complaining, they finally moved u[... read more]s (after 3 nights) to an accessible room that was wonderful, walk in shower and close to everything. BUT at a very additional charge. This is completely unfair, and unacceptable, especially when we did ask for an accessible room. but unfortunately they told us that there was nothing we could do. I will not recommend this resort to anyone, they were not helpfully at all. We were unable to eat in any of the restaurants, unable to get any reservations. Maybe if we had given more money that might of got us in??
