The Sens Riviera: Disappointed ,not new hotel, not 5 star hotel, more like 3 star hotel with poor management
Hi,18 of us came on October 17th to Sunscape Akumal Sun club and stayed for a week. Hotel has nice sandy beach but entry into water has sharp rocks ( hardened corals).Water is crystal clear. Maintaining beach is very poor, never seen anybody cleaning beach except accumulated sea weed . No one is cleaning around beach lounges that are old and fabric stretched so you could feel frame .Good thing is that they offer you and collect towels regularly .No guard rails on stairs to the beach, on[... read more]e man fell
There is no sport activities or animation by the pool or on the beach. Also there is no entertainment except movie projected on the wall of hotel and disco that is too loud and near family section
Hotel is advertised as new but in reality it is somewhat renovated.Main lobby and rooms are good, modern with wi-fi available throughout resort.Keeping it all clean is not the greatest.
We had a lot of problems with room 2135 facing wall and open hallways looking into our room as well as having bolted doors to balcony that was non existing .There was no light bulb by bedside light, there was no working iron or slippers for sun club guests. We lost 3 days of beach and relaxing trying to fix that with sun club manager Lois.He was not ready to help with any issues. We asked to change room because I felt there was no privacy when you face open hallways and everyone going by can see in your room. Yes, there were some darkening curtains that didn't cover the whole window. Imagine that you had to close curtains every time you change or go to shower or bathroom, not very pleasant. By the way doors to bathroom and shower are glass and washroom and bath tub are together in one room.
When we talked to Sun club manager Louis on second day of our stay, he said that there were no available rooms to change and yet we bypassed a group of 20-25 people waiting to get their rooms. His explanation was that they were booked and can-not give us new room, he treated us as ours was not booked. When I worked I was manager as well so I told him what was customer service, that first come get resolved problems first.I think he needs more management training with customer service and customer satisfaction to ensure customer coming and returning are satisfied.
At the end after my demanding to change room 3rd day instead of 4th or sand me back with payed flight back home and full refund he offered another room the next day after 3 pm,which happened at 6:00-6:30 pm Another lost day of vacation, total 3 of 7 days staying.
New room was not the greatest but was better than first one. What to say about service in the room? They started cleaning our room at 6:15 pm when we came to take shower and get ready for dinner. Beds were maid and floor cleaned but nothing else done. Bar fridge story is similar, not replenishing with soda water and beer what we asked for instead of coke, sprite and similar drinks full of sugar .
On bright side, barmen by the pool on the beach and lobby were great, they were knowledgeable( the older ones), sorry didn't get their names but they were rewarded for their great service.
Food choices and service was great in buffet.Food was also great at a la cart restaurants but slow service.
We were group of 18 people, we paid the same price but some got great rooms with balcony and jacuzzi, some with just balcony and some with just basics like us plus with a lots of problems ( for the same money).
In all honesty hotel needs more educating stuff and teaching them how to satisfy customers as well as to fix some problematic areas.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great staff, clean pools
I enjoyed the resort, it was very relaxing. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the staff was very hospitable. I would definitely return. The only thing i did not like was the amount of people ON the resort that approached me to sell goods and were very persistent to the point of me feeling harassed. Other than that it was a nice trip

Sunscape Puerto Vallarta: good
We stayed for seven days and found the resort to be all very good, but it could use more "a la cartes" restaurants. We found the Italian restaurant to be the best. The employees were very polite and helpful.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Big disappointment!!!!
We had no issues with Air Canada flights but we were very disappointed with the Sunscape and Sun Club upgrade that we paid extra for, for the following reasons.
Problems accessing our room (8105) upon arrival - Required door repairs. Patio door wouldn't open in this room either.
No wash cloths or hand towels on several occasions
Shower door allowed water to spray out all over floor in room 8104
A/C didn't work in Rm 8105 for 2 days.
A/C repaired day 3 in Rm 8105 (as well as shower door [... read more]which we were not told about - no use of room all day Tues until about 4 pm) - nothing but a "sorry for the inconvenience " from the hotel
Shower drain was clogged and didn't drain very well in 8105 - had to call service again
Room 8104 had issues with safe 3 times
Pillows were awful - very small
Food was terrible - precooked hamburger/hot dogs, fries, pasta at 2 restaurants for lunch, breakfast food was rarely hot unless you had a fresh cooked omelet
Dinner buffet was very limited - not much selection
A la carte restaurants were mediocre except Japanese restaurant was very good.
New washroom/shower construction right at the pool area outside our rooms which we weren't made aware of. Lots of noise and concrete dust by the pool!
Buffet restaurant was also under construction which we only heard about 2 weeks before our trip.
As for the extra we paid for "Sun Club" we cannot see what we paid extra for. The check in took longer and the VIP lounge was at the front reception area at the opposite end of the resort. The red wine was terrible-unless you wanted to buy wine in the restaurants. The pool bar by building we were in had no blender drinks like the main pool bars.
The location of this resort is stunning and the staff for the most part were friendly. We made the best of this vacation but would definitely not recommend this resort.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Sunscape Curacao
Curacao is a beautiful island! Sunscape hotel was fantastic overall. Excellent service, staff very helpful. Entertainment staff has boundless energy! Hotel and grounds very clean. Lots of activities and abundant beach area. Only issue was the food. Need more variety with the lunch and dinner menus, especially the buffets. At the buffets, the same menu was used for lunch and dinner for the entire week. And yes--the restaurants for dinner have different selections. Te service was 10 out [... read more]of 10, but the food was just average.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Great Resort
The rooms were very clean. They were cleaned daily and our fridge was stocked. Loved our oceanfront room. The staff was friendly and the entertainment staff was A lot of fun. My only complaint was the food. It lacked variety. The buffet was always the same and the restaurant meals could use revamping. I loved the coffee cafe. And the evening snacks that was provided. The drinks were strong.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Unexpectedly Great!!!
Clean. Clean. Clean!!! All day allover, employees cleaning, trimming plants. Watering. Painting. Maintenance above par. Rooms very clean. Great beds. Over 60 channels on flat screen TV. Rainshower type showers. Renovated shower area. Mini bar restocked everyday with water soda and beer. Buffet and a la carte food quality was above par. Taste, texture and presentation. Drinks were well prepared. Employees treat you with respect and friendliness. We loved this place so much. We plan to return ASAP
Used to be a very enjoyable resort.
This year, cold food, one bar only had Bacardi which they would regularly tun out of, renovations etc.
We were told about the renovations approx 12 hours before departure.
Prices went way up but Resort has become a 2*.
Will not go back!!!
Absolutely no fun, a lot of very unhappy people.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great little resort, Perfect for a weeks getaway in the sun!
Sunscape, Puerto Plata in Playa Dorada
Vacation review August 16th to the 23rd, 2019.
The airport was a breeze, and the transfer bus easy to find and the weather was superb.
A pleasant 15 minute drive to our hotel which was the first stop.
Has soon as we arrived we where escorted to a private check in for the Sun club.
I had prearranged this a week before and the upgrade was worth it.
The check in was relaxing and we had welcome drinks and hors d’oeuvres, very nice.
The Sun club o[... read more]ffers family and adults only. The adults only is where we stayed.
The adults section had its own pool, which was small but adequate to cool off and relax.
It was also gated so another nice touch.
The rooms where clean and comfortable and maids cleaned and restocked each day.
They were pretty basic and simple but they had a really nice large screen TV and nice toiletries.
The hotel grounds where very clean and lush, everybody works so hard to keep it looking so pretty.
The hotel itself is a very small resort feel, with a family pool near the reception area and main buffet
and a larger pool with a swim up bar near the entertainment sections, restaurants above second level.
We never used the large pool but they had foam parties on a weekend that looked fun.
The beach was very close by and was huge and really nice, the waters had no sea grass or seaweed,
beautiful and clear and refreshing. The afternoons tended to get windy. There where quite a lot of vendors
trying to make a living selling various products, they would ask but if your weren’t interested they just walked away.
However It was quite annoying to be pestered from time to time, it would have been nice to have an area that the
vendors couldn’t enter. This didn’t spoil my vacation.
The restaurants where lovely, we used the Gohan, Pizzeria and Caribbean. The time of the year we went it was their quiet season.
So the Sun club continental breakfast was available in the mornings and also the buffet with a varied selection.
Snacks were available throughout the day and the buffet and restaurants in the evenings with the sack bars
available later on. Because it was quiet they alternated the restaurants, and we always managed to get a seat.
The weekends are busy and so patience is required when dining. The local people tend to use the resort on the weekends.
There was entertainment and schedules for everything, every day and a kids club. We where around to hear the entertainment as
its close to the restaurants and cafe bar, but we stayed near the adult bar most nights. There are some shops on site, and some
within walking distance, slightly cheaper. Theres also a city tour but we missed that one, but my husband and son booked the beach
buggies and had so much fun, they came back really muddy!
Overall a pleasant relaxing stay, great food and lovely hard working people who try to make your stay as memorable as can be.

Sunscape Splash: Good value for your buck
Good resort but should spend some money on the interior such as the pool cots and umbrellas, also the room pillows are to small the workers are excellent especially Errol the pool maintenance man and all the guys from Segway tours as well as the on site activity workers who operate the water activities such as boating and tow rafts.the lazy river and other pools were enjoyable for my little one as well as the wife and myself how ever guests should know that because it states gratuities are inclu[... read more]ded the workers have yet to be blessed with them so everyone should tip personally for their services!Hipstreet is a great place to visit for your shopping needs and is open 7 days a week despite info from the

Sunscape Splash: Room for improvement
First the good, very close to airport, grounds are nice, can watch cruise ships come in and dock in bay behind hotel, food was good, great jerk chicken, buffet had good variety, has three pools, adult pool has swim up bar was never crowded and kids pool on other side of swim up bar which was nice for people with kids, they could enjoy adult pool and still keep an eye on their kids. Italian and oriental restaurants were very good. Now for the not so good .Service in buffet was the worst I [... read more]have seen in an all inclusive resort and I have been to many. At most resorts when you sit down in the morning for breakfast the staff are there pretty quick to offer you coffee, it won't happen here and tipping won't help I have never seen so many miserable women working at a buffet, and they are in no rush to take away empty plates. One night we waited and waited for service and ended up going to get our own knives and forks, then went and got our own wine glasses and poured our own wine while the staff watched us and never said a word. The resort overall is pretty rundown, our air canada rep said they will soon be doing major renovations at the resort, they may want to take a good look at their staff while their at it. I would not return to this resort.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Excellent resort
We stayed first week of June, and from the time we got pick up at airport and shuttle to hotel and shuttled back our stay was very pleasant. The beach is spectacular, pool is average, food is great at la carte but buffet needs work, same food almost everyday, lunch at ocean could use some variety, maybe some pizza/nachos/cheese to help yourself instead of waiting 20 minutes for your order. Bars need additional staff added long line ups, beer needs to be upgraded, Montana is a low quality,
Roo[... read more]m are very clean, maid was very pleasant, and our mini bar server Michel was amazing great customer service every day(made sure our fridge was stock- room 2110)
Entertaining staff events activities need over haul- very boring. Need pool side music playing all day -Evening entertainment could be better and having disco start so late is ridiculous given all shows over at 9:30.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Excellent choice
Stayed May 4 to May 11/2019. Second time staying there (May 2018).
This is a very clean resort. The public washrooms are always clean and nicely scented with cinnamon candles & oils. Everything is within walking distance-beach, pool, restaurants & lobby. Staff is friendly and always saying hello without looking for a handout. However, when tipped they were so very grateful and appreciative.
Food was excellent, the buffets and the a la carts. No reservation necessary but the wait times were [... read more]not bad.
Rooms were large and clean. We unfortunately had really bad water pressure if showering around 5:00. Thought it was our shower head but when maintenance came to check it out, it worked fine. I believe it was just too many people showering at the same time that we lost hot water pressure. We were in building 11, 2nd floor. However, I also stayed here a year ago in building 11 3rd floor and had an excellent shower. If we needed something or had a concern, you need only ask and they try to fix it. In hindsight, I should have had maintenance come at 5:00 to show them the problem rather than later in the evenings when it would work for them. The point is, all I had to do was ask and I should have.
Building 11 backs on to neighboring resort and their outdoor party area. Very loud but with our patio doors closed and the ac on, it was not bad for us. I can sleep through anything, but some people would have trouble with it.
Only cons- frequently approached by resort VIP staff trying to sell us the VIP package information session. Also public beach so vendors are constantly trying to sell you something. A simple “no thank you†and they were on there way. That being said, we also met and got to know some of the public vendors and the VIP staff and they are just trying to do a job too. Very friendly and respectful when we would say “no thank youâ€.
I definitely would be happy to go back again. Basically went for total R& R. Do nothing and read a book. Did not try excursions. All ages seem to enjoy this resort. I am 56 but There were lots of young families and young adults (25 age?) there as well.
Beach was windy so the beach bar restaurant is very sandy but they are constantly sweeping it. Sometimes blows around though in the sitting area. But the food was good there. Both pools were good. People do the towel thing though to hold them but generally they are not gone for hours. Although there are warnings, staff does not monitor this. I think that travellers have to be more respectful of other travellers and accept more responsibility and not pass everything off to the resorts.
They are wheelchair friendly as well. A la carts are on second floor but I saw a chair lift available on the stairs.
It is everything that I need on a vacation.

Sunscape Cove: Budget hotel at best
This was our third time staying at this resort. We had previously visited in 2015 for a wedding and in 2013 for a family vacation. In 2013 we thought the resort was amazing. When we returned in 2015 we still enjoyed our stay but felt some upkeep was needed. When we returned this time it was like a different report all together. The food was terrible, we lived on eggs and pasta the entire time. I would compare it to a very poor cafeteria style serving in a hospital. Just gross! We booked ocean vi[... read more]ew and the online pics were completely deceiving. Only the ocean front rooms have been renovated. All the other rooms look like a budget style motel complete with bedbugs an cockroaches 🤢. They finally moved us to a better room half way through our trip. It was way nicer but located at the furthest end of the resort right at the property line. Not exactly the safest for two women (grandmother and mom) and a child. Bath towels were hard to come by we always had to call and request more. They neglected to fill the mini fridge every day so we had to call down for water. the beach is nice but very small and you can only walk out about 15 ft and then you hit the seagrass were you risk stepping on sea urchin or getting stung by jellyfish (which happened to another young boy staying at the resort). The pools were disgusting as well. Tile chipping off the side and little bits of the pool lying at the bottom so you would step on it and hurt your foot. The water was dirty and rarely cleaned. My daughter ended up getting an ear infection from the water and we had to spend a bundle to see the doctor on call. for the most part the staff was incredibly friendly and you could see they were working really hard to make up for the deficiencies of the resort. It's a shame to see how far downhill this resort has gone, when with just a little bit of work it could be amazing again. At the repeaters party the management went on and on about being the most profitable resort in the Caribbean, clapping for themselves. I was appalled. They may be the most profitable but they're gaining that profit by overcharging guests and then lowering the quality of what people get. We tried to make the most of our vacation but it is definitely the last time we will ever return to Sunscape Montego Bay. There are far better hotels at this price point.
