Amazing resort!

Overall the resort was amazing ...wheather was great... beach is awesome ....drinks are exceptionnel ;) Jeep safary is a great experience and snorkling is unbelievable we had great laugh with the entertainment.

The resort was dated but clean. The food was good and the beach was beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The resort is small, which I liked so everything was close...beach, bars, and the room. :)

EXCEPTIONALLY FRIENDLY RESORT

We had been to Play d'Oro previously. The second time we went to Cuba we stayed at a different resort, and were not nearly as pleased with it, so we went back to Play d'Oro this ttime. When we arrived there was a welcome letter waiting for us as return customers, and cold beer and a bottle of Havana Club in the fridge (also water and pop). The letter "welcomed us home" and said they had a surprise for us. They gave us a free lobster supper, along with a few (maybe 10) other return guests. They d [... read more]id it at one of the restaurants after it had closed, and they provided a really good show as well. The food is always a question for Cuban vacations, but at this resort, it is really good. The first time we were there it was good, but this time it was even better. Like every restaurant or buffet you attend, there are some food items that you don't particularly like, but there was a huge variety, and I tried a lot of it. I cook for a living, and was very impressed with the quality of the food, and many different food items. Nobody would have a complaint on their menu. The staff was helpful, in some situations going out of the way to be helpful. I left a note for the maid one day, asking for more towels, and the first time we returned to the room that day there were no extras, but the second time there were. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this vacation, and how well we were used.

Amazing hotel.

food was the best i had in cuda, ,, grounds are well groom,, pool was great ,,room was alittle small but good,need a fridge.and some drawers,, staff was very friendly. beach was very clean ,, feeled very safe

Below average

The room's were terible when I first entered the room the spell of it was horrifying to think we were staying there for a whole week. Our washroom was falling apart and the shower head barely released any water. Our first day we had no Towles and I called the front 3 times between 5 hours and they kept advising me 10 minutes. After waiting almost half a day after traveling I called back the fourth time where the staff ended up yelling at me. We were so scared and disgusted! !! but at the end we made it!!

Nice and friendly resort

I am no complaints for the price that I pay , The staffs is very nice. The beach is with very white sand and clear water. The room is clean. The food and the fruits very fresh. overall I like this place. and will go again.

Clean hotel friendly staff nice beach good location not enough chairs on the beach plates in dinning room not always clean the hotel is close to town of varadero you can go by taxi or double decker bus

Good Resort

Beautiful grounds and pool area. Food is ok ,it is Cuba after all. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Nightly entertainment was fun and engaging. I usually stay closer to downtown Varadero because more things to walk to and enjoy at night.

Great beach

This hotel was about a 3 star. We stayed for two weeks. The trip was a great price and we got what we paid for. The beach was the best part of our stay. The pool and the pool side bar came in second. The room was clean and the room bathroom was updated. As for the washrooms around the resort you were lucky to find one that worked and or had toilet paper. The food was ok at the a la carte. The buffet changed very little each night. Breakfast was the best. The staff was very friendly and easy to g [... read more]et along with as were all the locals. Good disco on site but very little entertainment at the resort.

Really great experience

For being in Cuba, the food was very decent! I would recommend bringing ketchup and hot sauce, as those weren't always available. It was pretty sad to see all of the guests' waste left on their plates, considering a lot of Cuban citizens don't have food like this available to them. Please keep that in mind! Definitely try the beach barbeque, there was delicious grilled meat and fish. You get what you pay for...

Vacationed in Playa D'Oro from March 22-29/15. This was our 5th time to Cuba and always had a good experience but this was our first and last at this resort. We had to wait for 2 days to get beach towels and were able to change for clean ones twice that week. Apparently they had a problem with the only laundry facility in Varadero and couldn't provide clean towels. Also had to use the same towels in our bathroom for the entire week. We've never experienced this before but hey, that's Cuba for yo [... read more]u. The beach was beautiful of course, the grounds nice, food was good, but the rooms definitely need upgrading. We had to call someone to come take care of the horrid smell from the drains in the bathroom which they did within the same day and the dirty towels we left on the floor to cover the drains were on the varanda drying for us to use when we took our shower. Yuk!!! They didn't even bother to provide clean towels knowing they were used to cover the drains. We finally got clean ones after we told them what we had to do with them but that was it for the rest of the week. Next time I'm taking my own towels!!!

Awesome trip!

The rooms, food, beach, pool area were spectacular. Some areas of the hotel look 'tired'. The hallways and parts of the lobby were in need of attention. But the rest of the resort was wonderful. Food was great especially the beach bbque. Staff were friendly and happy to please. We will go back.

Good resort with friendly staff!

Good resort with clean rooms and renovated bathrooms. A la carte restaurants were good and you could always find something to eat at the buffet. Beach BBQ is a must for lunch! Amazing pool and beach!!! The ocean was warm and we were always able to find chairs. Limited bars but great entertainment throughout the day and the evening shows were fantastic! Would not hesitate to return if the price was right. If your looking to be pampered and want everything perfect, keep looking. If you can overloo [... read more]k a few little things, you will be fine. Only suggestion would be to get a room on the second floor and above to avoid flooding in case of heavy rain.

Mini get away

2nd time to Cuba- overall it was a nice get away but I wouldn't recommend Playa D'oro. It is listed as a 4* but should definitely be a 2+/3*. Food was edible, beach was amazing, rooms were sub par, service not that great. Our flight got cancelled coming home (mech failure) so we were put up at the RIU ( another 4*- could have easily been 4+ or 5*) our few hours at the RIU we're amazing! The hotel and grounds were awesome, entertainment amazing, service was great.

Great entertainment

Lovely people in Cuba. The hotel offered quality entertainment every night at the 10 o'clock show. The staff in charge of daily entertainment such as dancing lessons, beach games and Spanish lessons were awesome! The hotel food was not fancy and very repetitive - I had a very hard time with the food. The rooms were pretty run down so don't expect much. If you are looking for sun and beach - this is your hotel. If you are looking for a little pampering and great food - I would recommend you resea [... read more]rch other hotels.

OK resort.

Had asked for room close to beach, but the room was quite a walk, and I have a walking disability. Not pleased. They had no wheelchairs or handicapped assistance other than ramps to their main lobby and buffet. Buffet very repetitious and food was just ok.

Overall very good for a four star in Cuba

The rooms were clean and everything worked. The food was average for Cuba but the beach BBQ for lunch was wonderful. The staff were friendly regardless of the tips. Beach was breath taking. Overall all a good experience.

Bring your own towels!

We went for a family vacation on March Break, 6 of us (the kids were 17/18). The kids did not mind the hotel, but all agree we have been in much better. The rooms were "motel" like rooms. Made of wood, cheap and broken down. Bathroom was a mess. I wish I had complained and moved rooms. The linen never got changed for an entire week, and towels were the "new currency". We only got beach towels in day 4. Never changed either. The room towels were at a premium - had to give gifts to the maid to get [... read more] a towel. Laundry facilities were broken. Hidden gems - The resort was small - we loved this. Beach and pool were really close. The nightly entertainment was not bad. Don't expect Michael Jackson.... But they did have a fantastic rock band. The beach was awesome. The weather of course - perfect! So if you go for sand and sun - good place. If you wanted to throw in a little luxury - not the place to go to. Definitely would go back to Cuba - not this resort (unless it was free).

Resort needs a good up dating

The hole resort in my mind needs a good up date , window doors paint concrete every where , the pool bar was out dated the swim up bar was close due to old tiles and that kind of stuff every where , service at the bar was terrible !! Didn't get a new towel all week !! Food was poor in my eyes ! First time in an all inclusive :))

It was a good resort and more safe and secure.

nice and clean it was well organized but somebody need take care of this hotel. improving with new technology like internet phone that every body should be happy for about all of that and easy to contact with their family in case of emergency.
