Good resort with some qualifications

Great thing about this resort is the beach area; fine sand, shallow water and you can walk on the beach for a very long ways. The staff are generally friendly (except for the check-in staff and the public relations), but the grounds people and servers are very friendly. Food is okay but definitely not something that would bring you to the resort. It is the basic Cuban resort type food. Entertainment is very good. Palm trees are recovering and they are planing new shrubs, etc. In a year it will be very nice again. I will recommend it, but primarily for the beach and friendly staff.

Amazing vacation

Stayed at Memories Caribe from Feb. 20 to 27, 2018. We had great time. Resort is beautiful, small thus not crowded, located on the most amazing beach. Grounds are kept beautifully and they still repairing following the hurricane, but they did amazing job. Rooms are very clean and the staff is fantastic. All the staff at the resort is doing great job, very friendly always smiling and very accommodating. Food at the main buffet is very good and variety is good. The station with the f [... read more]resh fish, where the chef cooks it for you, is excelllent. I am not a fish eating person but the way it was prepared I had it almost ever day. The roasted pig, delicious! Lots to choose from sweets! Staff at the buffet is great. Cannot say the same thing for a la card restaurants, we did not enjoyed the food. Entertainment very good. There is yoga, aerobics, dancing lessons, etc...during day as well as entertainment by the pool. Big pool with swim up bar. The lobby bar makes great drinks as well as specialty coffee and the staff is amazing. There is a sports bar 66 which is also very good. One thing I would suggest to the management that the lobby bar and the sports bar be opened at least until midnight as now closes at 11:00PM. Overall we had ver good experience, amazing vacation, have already recommended to my friends and are considering returning.

Lovely resort

This is a lovely resort. It was hit very hard by Irma and they have worked very hard to restore everything. While some of the foliage is new and small, the grounds staff is fantastic and work very hard to keep everything neat and lush. The buildings are all freshly renovated and have new furniture and beds (very comfortable) but I would recommend a 2nd floor room as the ground floor rooms still smell slightly musty. The pool however has very little shade. I would recommend this resort and would back again.

Gorgeous beach and food

Since irma 5 mths before an incredible amount of work has been done,,some room for improvement on the older bottom floors around the 1105 area,,beautiful, friendly service,,excellent eve shows,,i definately will be back,healthy choices for food

Very Relaxing and Enjoyable

Resort was under a bit of construction due to the hurricane a few months before. Still very nice. Beach was amazing. Lots of fun activities to do. Recommend the boat trip. Drinks were good, food was fine.

Pretty Decent

Any time you go to Cuba you have to lower your expectations a bit. You're just not going to get the same level of cleanliness we're used to in Canada. The staff at the resort are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The service was great. The food was much better than I expected. Just find what you like and kind of stick to it. They had a couple chefs cooking fresh pastas and friend fish and rices which were quite tasty. I never got sick from the food. I'd definitely recommend this resort to other people. It's Cuba. You go for the beaches and the beautiful weather, not for the fine cuisine and luxurious rooms.

Great time by repeat guest!

Small hotel, everything within close distance of rooms. Fabulous beach with powder white sand, no need for water shoes. You can snorkel a short distance off the resort by booking a hobby cat for $20 cuc’s for 4. Food can be repetitive but you won’t starve. Rooms are clean and spacious, good a/c. Wifi available in lobby, buffet, snack bar, pool area for $1 cuc for 1hr. It worked well enough to FaceTime home. Be at the beach by 7am to reserve a chair and palapa.

Good Vacation

Only complaints were that the rooms were plain. Looked “tired”. The grounds they were doing improvements. No hot water. Sometimes could get warm. Food is what you would expect in Cuba. Drinks were cold and beach was beautiful

A very beautiful beach....

The resort was very beautiful and the staff were very friendly. The gardens were amazing and our room was recently redone and very clean with a new bed. However, our ground floor room was very moldy smelling, a common complaint heard among those of us in ground floor rooms. This could be a potential issue if you have allergy/asthma issues. The food was very blah...the buffet was the same thing everyday. However the Cuban meal and a dinner on the beach were lovely. We did enjoy the pizza on the b [... read more]each and the odd burger at the snack bar. Always seats available at the pool and beach. We enjoyed the walks on the beach daily....sand and beautiful blue ocean as far as you could see! If we return again I would request a second level room (they apparently were much less moldy smelling) and maybe bring some spices from home to zip up our meals :)

Hurricane

The grounds were amazingly nice for a few months after hurricane. The food was OK but there was a shortage of locally grown produce like bananas etc, which is understandable. Upgraded rooms are very nice but regular rooms not so good. The beach is beautiful but if you want a chair you best be there in the early morning.

Amazing Resort

This hotel was top notch the room was beautiful and clean the grounds were well manicured and clean ( beautiful) the ocean was breathtaking ( beach was clean) staff was friendly and accommodating the food was beyond expectation

Positive vacation

This was our second trip to Memories Caribe ( 1st was January 2017 ). It was great to get away from the cold northern climate even tho the weather for the most part was cool and windy in Cayo Coco. We did manage to have one beautiful day of sunshine and no wind. Our renovated room was located in building 22, top floor. Great location ! Damaris, our housekeeper, kept our room clean and supplied. Every morning, Irvaris, wowed us with his fast, efficient omelet making skills. Great job ! Janexsy, was our usual server and she greeted us pleasantly with coffe in hand each morning and lunchtime. We enjoyed seeing Jessica again, bartending at the sports bar. Always a smile and engaging. The previous year she worked at the buffet. Her strawberry daiquiris are quite the presentation ! Yanilas, the customer service rep was as diligent, helpful and considerate as we remember from the previous year. A very dedicated employee and an asset to this resort. We have to mention Rodolfo, one of the beach workers. What a great ambassador ! He was always smiling, working and making polite conversation. Such a great guy. We want to extend a big "Thank You " to the Memories Caribe management and staff for creating a memorable 60th Birthday celebration. The decorations, band singing and delicious birthday cake were greatly appreciated and the bottle of rum is being enjoyed !. The Memories Caribe beach is beautiful and we enjoyed swimming to the reef and sitting there in the water looking back at the resort. The "Beans " coffee hut at the pool is nice for enjoying a capacino, sweet or bowl of ice cream. Hope to see you all again soon!

So-so; Great staff but resort a little lacking

Wonderful staff at this resort! Everyone says Hola to you, even the gardeners. The grounds around the resort are quite torn up, from the hurricane I assume but the beach is amazing! Resort is a little dated, and worse for wear. Was really disappointed that there was no Disco at the resort, so no place to dance. It was made into a Sports Lounge, which had great bartenders and good atmosphere but closed at 11! The only bar open past 11 PM was the snack bar, which lost it's roof, so if it's raini [... read more]ng or windy there's no comfortable place to eat/drink after hours. The biggest A-la cart restaurant is under construction, so Cuban and Mediterranean are sharing the same location which makes it book up faster. I wouldn't recommended the Italian on the beach because the bugs will eat you alive at night. But the day time pizza hut is delicious! Had a standard garden view room, nothing amazing but wasn't uncomfortable. Semi decent Wifi available in the lobby, cards definitely don't last the hour though! I would say this is more of a 3 or 3.5 star as opposed to the advertised 4 stars, I'm happy that I got it cheap at least. Still had a great time though!!

Nice resort. Very clean

This was a bright, clean resort with great beds, friendly well trained staff. Beach and pool were awesome. Ample food - could use a bit more spices. Piano bar with entertainment. Night shows a bit loud.GREAT water show one night.

Great place

The place is really coming along.... This was our second visit and you can barely see that a hurricane pasted there besides a few palm trees broken and a roof missing. The food was very good for Cuba... I think the best I’ve seen so far. The staff will go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied. The renovated rooms are great although no doors in bathroom. Mixed reviews

I have given this resort 2 stars...and I struggled to find enough positives to outweigh the massive negative. We stayed at Memories Caribe for a week. This was a birthday gift to me from my wife. We have stayed in Cuba a couple of times, but closer to Varadaro. This was our first time to Cayo Coco. Considering that the resort was still recovering from hurricane Irma, the grounds were in pretty good condition. Our room was fine, the bed comfortable - but I really do not like the no bathroo [... read more]m door idea. I have traveled extensively, and I have never slammed a resort for for the food it offers. I do not expect North American 5 star food in Cuba, and in our trips their we have never been disappointed with the food....until now. The food offered was horrible. It was made worse by the complete disregard for basic food safety - I asked for a burger one night from the hot line, where the cook had burgers, chicken and some other meats. The burger was burnt on the outside and blue rare on the inside, but the fact that he used the tongs from the raw chicken to pick up the bun was a bit much. Every morning there were scrambled eggs that could be eaten with a straw. The freshly made french toast was uncooked in the center, so you were eating raw egg and bread. And...when a large percentage of your guests are Canadian, why no bacon for 6 of the 7 days? By the 3rd day we were basically living on fresh fruit and pastries. We did take a chance on the snack bar at the pool and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. However, that does not make up for the lack of proper meals. The staff must be complimented. We had a young lady look after us at the buffet - her name started with a "d" and I cannot remember her full name ! She was amazing, super friendly, always smiling and efficient. The grounds keepers were probably the friendliest of the staff - always saying hello, always smiling. I asked at the front desk for the General Manager's business card or email address, and was told that the GM had no cards and they didn't have an email address for him / her. I would love to talk to the GM about the issues we faced. Overall, I would not recommend this resort due to the lack of food safety. It's just not worth spending the money to get sick because of cross contamination and improperly cooked products.

Nice place

Nice place there is a lot of effort to restore the resort. For the right price I would go back. I got ill on the second last day and my daughter thought it was the fish Our room had no air conditioning so they moved us and the second room was not much better and we had a issue with bugs The beach was amazing we had long walks , the food was good and there was lots of variety

Quiet Resort

The resort was popular among seniors, but going as young single females it was not the party scene we were looking for. Bars close at 11pm, and there is no disco even though the map and web site says it does. Alot of reconstruction and renovations due to the hurricane. Good points were the staff, they were extremely friendly and helpful. The beach was absolutely stunning and warm. It's a good resort for a quiet vacation but for those looking for a party, warn you to go elsewhere.

Good value for money

The resort itself is quite nice even though they are recovering from a hurricane. I recommend this resort only if you get an renovated room. Do not get 3401 (Al Fresco suite). The patio door does not lock, the mattress is filthy from being dragged around after the hurricane. Block 18 seems to be renovated. Beans cafe by the pool is fantastic. The pizza shack by the beach is also very good. 24 hr snack bar by the pool also has pizza and really good grilled ham and cheese sandwiches.  [... read more] A la carte restaurants (only 2 were open) Aegea was not very good. Nagago was the best of the two although portions were very small. Went to the buffet after dinner. The buffet was fine, it was a bit boring when we first arrived but was getting better as the week went on. The best part of the resort is definitely the beach. There are only two hotels on this strip. You can walk for ever when you go to the right of the hotel it's about 4.5 km to next hotels and you can walk way past those as well. Many sand banks where you can park yourself and have your own little island.
