Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Very nice Resort

Great resort, clean rooms, needs renovation. wonderful staff. Great beach, small and quiet for people who need rest. Dining was a problem, very basic. No variety. The food we had was stale sometimes.loved the presence of cats and dogs. They did not bother us and very family friendly atmosphere.i will not recommend because of the food.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Another wonderful stay at the Senator

Thank you to All the staff at the Senator for another wonderful stay. Our third extended stay was all we expected from the incredible welcoming staff. The pool , beaches, food, our room and entertainment were all great.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Good value - you get what you pay for

Our suite was nice and spacious and clean. Smaller resort but well run and had no issues with staff. Just two bars, one at the beach and one at the pool, but no swim up pool bar. May is a slower time of year, so we had no issues getting chairs at the beach, or near the pool, pool beds were a nice touch. Food was good, but not out of this world, main buffet was a bit repetitive, but plenty of choices overall. No room service or a la cart dining during the day. The beach in Puerto Plata is very nice, better than Punta Cana in my opinion. Bigger, cleaner and a lot less crowded.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Gran Vantana

The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. The resort was small so everything was close by, the beach, the pool and the restaurants. The rooms were clean and bright and the bed was comfortable. Towel service was good. The buffet food was good, but some dishes (beef, Turkey ) seemed to be overcooked. The specialty restaurants were all good especially the Italian one. The water for tea was lukewarm. The drinks were ok, wine was average. The pool was good, but it cold have been cleaned more as there was debris from the palm trees gloating around. The beach was very nice, well groomed but the wind was high when we were there and so staying on the beach was not too comfortable. The water was good/ The coral reef a was out, prevented the waves from coming right in which made for a calmer shoreline. Overall, we had a nice time and the resort was fine.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Horrible Service

I don't know where to begin. To much to write anout.We were 2 couples in our 60s. Paid extra for balcony rooms, could have touched the balcony across from us, no privacy, near the pool so it was loud. No face cloths, 2 bath towels are all you get for 2 people so drying your hair and wrapping it isn't an option. 1 hand towel. Not enough chairs or umbrellas around the pool. Food was 3 star at best. We changed resorts after our 1st week. Went to Marien and were upgraded to VIP. That resort made up for Viva, we enjoyed our 2nd week there.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Updated resort, but!

Nice resort. A resort that has been updated in many ways. They are still working on updating some things. The rooms in some buildings are musty and don't have AC working Lots of DR music and cultural parts on the theatre (that's outdoors) but no other entertainment in the evenings. No Libby bar but a sports bar (noisy) in area close to lobby. No English channels on TV in room except for CNN.

Playabachata Hotel: Very nice spot

Playabachata is a very clean resort. The food was great. On the weekends the locals are permitted to stay, and that was a bit overwhelming with long lines and busy restaurants, but the rest of the week was perfect. Beautiful beach and nice pools.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Disappointing

We knew this was a small resort, however it was disappointing. The a la cartes were good. The buffet was so so. The beach was nice but there were red flags most of the time. The poolside entertainment was annoying. They played the same childish song over and over and the dancers looked like they didn't want to be there. They were not very enthusiastic. We couldn't sit on our balcony without feeling like a caged animal in a zoo. Everyone passing by would look at us. We asked to switch rooms to the 2nd floor in a quieter area. They accommodated our request however the new room was moldy and there was leaking on the bathroom floor everyday, which was very dangerous I almost slipped and my husband was recovering from shoulder surgery and we couldn't risk him falling so we found another resort for the 2nd week.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great place to vacation!!!!!

Great place to stay, friendly staff, awesome food. Beach very close. Found it odd we couldn't get coffee at 6am but not a big deal. Room was nice, clean. Fridge in room was not looked after at all, only stocked once. Had problem with WIFI and room Fridge but when we told the Sunwing rep they were both loked after.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: ONLY Resort We'll Stay At and WILL BE BACK!

This was our third time at the Gran Ventana and it will not be our last!! The staff is amazing and so willing to help with whatever you need or want! The resort, grounds and beach are kept EXTREMELY clean which means a lot. The staff is always tidying, sweeping, cleaning, etc.! The food is great and you can always find something for everyone - even if you are travelling with picky eaters!! Entertainment is fun - hats off to Brian - who is one of the most talented guys around!! I think the on [... read more]ly thing that I could say needs a bit of attention is the pool - I wish it could be skimmed more often to keep the debris out. This is not a party resort so if you're looking for big bashes late at night with young people - this may not be the resort for you. Bartenders are super! And what also means a lot is that the staff get to know you - remember your name - or your favourite drink! It's very personable! We just got home Friday and are already talking about our stay there in 2026!!!

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Not Really 4+ Star Hotel

One should be aware that Viva Heavens by Wyndham may not fully meet the expectations of a 4+ star hotel. While it is marketed as such, the reality is a bit different. The rooms feel dated, and the entertainment is quite limited. The food is acceptable but unremarkable, and the advertised "huge swimming pool" is, in reality, rather small. Additionally, it’s about an 8-minute walk to the beach, which may be a consideration for some. It’s not exactly the "quiet retreat" some might expect, as there’s a loud disco every night. However, the staff is exceptionally friendly, creating a welcoming and safe environment. While the hotel’s beachfront area is small, the beach itself is beautiful, allowing for long, scenic walks along the coast.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Great Staff, great food & fun!

The BlueBay Villas Dorada is smaller resort with a great set-up. It is easy to find your way around. The food is great with so many options and varieties each day. The staff is friendly and fun. The Entertainment crew were the highlight of our two week stay, getting to see them for games on the beach in the morning and games at the pool each afternoon. Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Lovely setting

The grounds were amazing! People were always taking care of it. The room/accommodations were comfortable, though I thought a "Junior Suite" would be a bit larger. It was basically a "room". Because of mobility issues, we requested a ground level room, which we had. The beds were comfortable, but the mattresses needed to be turned/flipped. You could tell that guests sat on one edge of each bed as they sagged on that side. The bathroom was dangerous. Really, room for only one person at a time a [... read more]s the open door hit the toilet. The tub was a shocker! It was difficult to step into and it was very narrow, making it too difficult to get down into and then up out of. I tried it only once. After our first slippery use we realized that we had to wear our crocs in order to get in and out for the shower. The fridge was refreshed with water and pop daily. The A.C. barely worked in room 709. Thank heavens for the fan. The food was plentiful, but by day 5 I was starting to feel it to be a bit repetitious. Lots to eat though. The staff were friendly and always desiring to be of assistance. It was a LONG DRIVE to/from the airport.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Excellent

This was our 4th time here. Expected things to be run down a bit over the years, but not disappointed at all. Food was great, grounds were immaculate, and the room was recently renovated. The staff were very friendly. Highly recommended.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Amazing pool and location

Second time to this hotel. April 2025 - Beach in puerto plata was wavy (yellow flag) or closed due to a storm. No green flag In 2 weeks due to storm passing by? Amazing pool. First time To this resort. Nov 2023 no bacon in two Weeks. April 2025 Bacon every second day. Amazing rolls and breads. Air conditioner worked great! Excellent price for a vacation!!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: VH Gran Ventana Far exceeded our expectations!

We were part of a group of 12 (ages 13-74) and we all agreed that this was one of our favourite resorts of all time. The proximity to the airport was just the beginning, we were on our way to our rooms within a reasonable time upon arriving to the resort. Our rooms were clean, beds were comfy, lots of blankets and pillows, the quality of the beds was comparable to hotels in Canada. Beds were made daily and towels were replaced every morning by friendly housekeepers. The food choices were plentif [... read more]ul and there was always lots of food to eat no matter what time you arrived at the buffet. Even the pickiest eaters can find lots to choose from. Pasta and salad bars, fruit and cheese as well as a grill station with several options including a different theme each night- American, Chinese, Italian etc... The centrally located pools (1 large pool divided into 3 separate sections) and pool bar provided loungers, tables and umbrellas for the guests with music, volleyball, floaties and interactive games throughout the day. Sign up as soon as you arrive for a la carte dinners or you could miss out- they fill up quickly- we often chose the buffet because there were more choices for everyone! The beach is beautiful, lots of loungers, a beach bar and lunch restaurant with pizza, nachos, wings and more! We highly recommend this resort and would not hesitate to return! NO complaints at all!

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Lots of fun!

The resort has alot more than what is said online, they have foam parties, silent disco nights and fun things to do during the day while being around the pool. A lot of fun for younger adults! The food was pretty good and many different options to pick from for dinner, either buffet or making a reso at one of the restaurants. Many different pools, and easy and fast walk to the beach.

Lifestyle Residence Suites: Nice resort.

As this was our first time to the Dominican, we found that we quite enjoyed the resort we stayed at. You had access to 2 different places along with a mini casino and a variety of other places to check out. The beach was nice for the most part, however there was quite a bit of rocks in the water. The service was amazing and the drinks/food were the star of the show. The only thing that was a bit of the negative was the rocky beach as once you went out about 5-10m, you would step on one. Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great experience

The hotel staff was friendly and overall, we had a great experience at this resort. We found great joy in chatting with Juan at the pool bar. No issues with food, and no reservations required for restaurants. Beach was closed the first few days due to tides but the pool was a great spot to hang out. We ended up spending a lot of time at the pool even when the beach reopened. Our only complaint are the rooms could use updating.
