Would not go back

We arrived 2nd week of April. Waited 6 hrs for our room. Very understaffed. Food was ok not great. Towel game around the pool ridiculous, 6:30 am not a lounger to be found . People putting towels down before they go to bed. Ate at the Italian a la carte moved my napkin and a cockroach ran across the table, gross!! Beach bar has only 1 bartender for loads of people, long lineups everywhere, also in the buffet. Definitely would not go back.

Good value for the money

Beach is 5 star, resort itself is 3.5-4 star. Rooms are clean and fairly modern, food is just OK, not too much variety. Up at 4:30 - 5 AM to reserve shade huts on the beach, shouldn't gave to set an alarm clock while on vacation. Overall very happy with our choice.

Amazing Vacation

We stayed at the Pestana from April 16th to the 23rd, what to say about this resort, well we would definitely return in a heartbeat. Rooms are modern and very clean, staff very friendly, food was great for Cuba it surpassed our expectations. The beach is beautiful if you go to the left it is very rocky with lots of coral but the right hand side of the beach is a "DREAM" the only negative thing I have to say is about the beach it's the chair game, we got up as early as 5 am and no place in the sh [... read more]ade, the only place with shade if you were lucky enough was under the trees but the sand is very dirty and rocky with lots of bugs as this is a fairly new resort they had to cut trees and they burnt them in place so be prepared to have lots of leftover roots and rocks in the sand. The best way to describe the beach is that is looks like a 3 part beach, close to the water is very clean, a little further up starting to be rocky and as I mentioned near or under the trees it needs a lot of cleaning, but all in all this is a very nice resort and would highly recommend it. Can't wait to return to the Pestana. The only reason I am not rating it a 5 star is because of the beach.

Excellent location and resort is good!

The reviews were very helpful as it set my expectations. I was even more impressed with the beach and with young children it was easy to spend half the day at the pool and then the beach. Finding chairs by the pool was just a matter of moving someone's towel, because most people don't come back for hours and there is a sign somewhere that says 2 hour limit if not being used. The food was "meh", but we were warned and this is to be expected in Cuba. It was trial and error until you found something. But we didn't travel there for the food. The beach is amazing! The mini disco for kids at 8:30pm every night was fun! Some of the shows were a little cheesy, but overall impressive dancing and animators were fun and entertaining to watch. Day trip to Moron was worth it just to see something different. But the half day is good enough. Glad I didn't do the full day. Rooms are perfect and super clean and big. Make sure if you have small kids you get a room on the ground level. Management needs to do a better job of having rooms ready when people arrive. That part was a bit of a disaster. The playground for kids by the pool was great too! We also loved going to the snack bar open 24 hours. Overall, amazing time! Beautiful perfect beach! Clean modern rooms and good service in general. For the price, I will definitely be going there again.

Great Family Resort

Overall we had a great week. The service was really good. The staff are so caring and friendly. Arrival and check in were good. We were greeted with a welcome cocktail and checked in quickly. Our room was clean and spacious with a great ocean view. The food in the a la carte restaurants were really good as was the service. The food at the buffet was repetitive with minimal selection. There was a beach grill that served BBQ chicken, pork and fish during lunch that was really good. The beach was o [... read more]utstanding. Clear and warm with lots of fish around. The pool was great too. It's too bad there wasn't more shade available though. If you don't get out by 6am to reserve a spot, you bake in the sun all day. The resort is small and easy to get around.

It's all about the Beach

You can walk for hours on the beach, it's beautiful, probably the best in Cuba. Food is okay, buffet is fine, fast food on the beach and grill a few minutes from the beach. A la Carte rest. not worth it. Rooms are fine but they were cheap on the drinking water, large bottle in room but not every day. Nothing in the small fridge in the room. Cheap on exchanging towells in the room. Good drinks and special coffee in lobby bar. Employees were great. Gym is fine, bikes, 1 treadmill and various weigh [... read more]ts. Great Massage on the beach with Gato 25 pesos. I didn't participate in activities or entertainment and didn't use the pool area. Would go back for the beach.

Fantastic reasort

Great, friendly staff, great evening shows, good variety at buffet, very good food, extremely clean. Down side... Need to be up really early to get chairs either pool side or beach. Beach...4/5.. coral deposit very close to the edge makes it difficult to access the water.

Relaxing Vacation

We stayed at the Pestana from April 10-17th and we had a great time. The resort is beautiful and clean, the pool was the cleanest I have ever seen at a resort, we went next door to the Memories Flamenco and their pool was really cloudy and gross looking. The beach was breathtaking, you can walk for miles and miles, the beach in front of the Pestana is definitely the best. The food was good, the Cuban soup is AMAZING!! The only complaint would be the chair game, the resort does not offer much shade therefore getting good chairs by the pool or beach is almost impossible, you have to be up at about 5:30 to get a spot that offers shade, otherwise they are all saved. I think the resort needs to find a way to stop this from happening because the chairs will sit there for hours with no one using them. All in all an amazing trip and I would 100% recommend this hotel, I am not sure we would return only because we like to try different places every time.

Great trip

Pestana resort is modern, clean and well kept. The buffet was typica for Cuba. We found tasty food at the pool snack bar and beach snack bar. They make an excellent Cuban sandwich at the snack bar by the beach walkway. Bring your Bubba if you don't want a 2 oz beer cup. The staff were very friendly and provide good service. The beach is beautiful white sand and excellent for young kids but there is not a lot of shade. It's mostly French Canadians. Its very hard to find an unreserved chair in the [... read more] shade. No one monitors the hours that the chair is vacant but reserved. We booked last minute and found this resort was of great value.

Ok for an inexpensive vacation

I (38) vacationed with my mother (72) and daughter (6). I have been to Cuba over 15 times but this was my first time to Cayo Coco. For the 3 of us we paid a total including taxes 1650$ and at that price the resort was fine. If I paid much more I would have been disappointed. Pros: The resort is close to the airport so there isn't a very long drive. Everything is close together at the resort so you don't have too much walking to get to where you want to be. Cons: During the week of April 13-20th the resort was severely understaffed. There were long waits for drinks, food, money exchange and reception. THERE IS NO SHADE!!!!! There are very limited palapas around the pool and at the beach. Anyone I spoke with found this a huge issue. I'm used to the limited choices and different taste of Cuban food but what they did have was not very good. For most people this won't be an issue but my mom has issues walking and the resort is very hilly. The beach is nice where they have cleared the coral in the ocean. Otherwise you need to wear water shoes due to the thick coral. I think the best way to describe the entertainment staff would be..Tired? They weren't overly friendly and just didn't seem like they wanted to be there. By our last day it seemed like they could have used a little more chlorine in the pool. It was looking and smelling a little "dirty". All in all, it was nice to get away after the long cold winter and I would only return to this resort if I saw it at a bargain price.

Loved the Pestana Cayo Coco!

We just got back from a 7 day stay at the Pestana Cayo Coco and loved it! This was our 5th trip to Cuba but our first to Cayo Coco. The beach is the highlight and was the nicest beach I have ever experienced. The water was super clear, warm, shallow and all on soft white sand. The resort was well managed and the staff were all there to make your happy. The food was pretty good and we enjoyed all of the restaurants/ buffet/ snackbar areas. We loved hanging out in the lobby, enjoyed the shows, and danced every night at their disco. One of the best things about the trip was that it was so close to the airport so travelling to and from the resort was a breeze. We can't wait to go back! Best trip ever!

Wonderful staff !! Beautiful beach !!

The hotel is very nice. The rooms new and very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. The staff FANTASTIC !!! The food.. Hey it's Cuba they have what's available at the time but we always had fantastic fresh fish!! Our biggest problem was rude guests saving multiple chairs in multiple places. I feel the beach and pool staff need to have more control over this. They need to tell guests that they cannot save chairs all over the resort I.E. Beach sun, beach shade and pool. If every guest had a ca [... read more]rd with their room# on it they could save a chair anywhere but....ONLY ONE CHAIR at a time !!! You cannot sit on three chairs at once. It should not be up to the guests to confront other guests over a chair that remains vacant 1/2 to 3/4 of the day and in some cases all day

Nice clean resort

We have been in Cuba a few times and stayed at different resorts. This resort is clean with a nice beach as every beach in Cayo Coco. No complains about food. Cuban Restaurant was the best of the three. I would recommend to pay special attention to beach towels to avoid problems at check-out

Relaxing Vacation

Nice small resort well laid out and easy to get around. The first floor is raised but is wheelchair accessible. The beach was nice in front of our resort best out of the three in this section. Rooms are big and comfortable but the tubs are way too high.

Was not good weather

was good but no drinks in fridge pool water cold no hamburger no welcome went we got there im not going back to cuba but maybe bbetter place for me in cuba maybe a 5 stars next time in cuba after all it was good

Great Resort Amazing people

Really enjoyed our stay at this complex Travelled with my wife and three kids as well as my parents. Beautiful tidy grounds with smiling faces, Incredible beach and pool, we will return in the future-Special thanks to Orleans

Last minute family vacation

The hotel was very clean, the staff was super friendly! While the beds might be a bit smaller than North American standards, the rooms were very comfortable. The best part of the trip was the beach - AMAZING sand and shallow, warm water. Perfect for young kids or anyone wanting to snorkel without a boat.

OK Resort.

Hotel,beach,grounds are very nice.Food is just OK for 4 star hotel.Entertainment very professional and artsy.Beautiful lobby.The worst for me was the noise of mass of people around the pool (loud music too),very noisy buffet,noise,noise everywhere!!! Just bring noise canceling headphones and you can enjoy this nice resort.

Almost perfect except the food

Very clean resort. We were in building 11. The safe wasn't bolted down, patio door didn't lock and had two double beds instead of king. Shower was broken and didn't have running water for two days. After a lot of time spent complaining we moved into another building and it was much better. Room was perfect. Food was boring repetitive and bland. We arrived on the he end of March break. Things like jam, peanutbutter, bananas and yogurt always ran out. Lots of food but wasn't prepared on a grill (  [... read more]all meats cooked with oil on a flat top). Lots of seafood if you didn't mind having to clean everything yourself. Bacon was only cooked on one side (had to brino it to the omlette station to to have it cooked). Ketchup was fine some days and watered down with vinegar are other days. No syrup for crepes. Long long lines for any cooking stations. Coffee was terrible. Milk was powdered. Pool and beach was amazing. Beach is best if you go to the far right. The left is full of rocks. Drinks were sent strong and plentiful. 24 hour snack bar was ok - heard they had good poutine and asked every single day but told they had none and maybe tomorrow. Other people on the flight back seemed to have much better foods hand our resort. We would recommend sticking to an Iberostar or Melia branded resort for next time.

Lovely Resort. Great Beach!

Room was great! Maid service excellent! Beautiful beach, lovely bay for swimming. Clean grounds. Hotel staff at all levels were welcoming and helpful. Wifi in the lobby!! A perfect resort for a quiet and restful vacation. The only weakness was the food. We've been to Cuba many times and by far this was the worst food we've ever had and we are not picky. Several foods were VERY salty. Some meats were under cooked or overcooked. Very few choices for cooked vegetables. What they did have were froze [... read more]n varieties. However we did not go hungry. Always other choices. All in all a great vacation
