Great Resort

This was the second time we stayed at this resort, each time was a great experience. The staff is wonderful very caring about making your stay great. They go out of their way to get whatever you need. The food was also good at the buffet and the snack bars. The beaches are fantastic. I would recommend this resort to anyone.

Resort ok!!

I was really disappointed by the resort. For it being only 3 years old it is not in a good condition. Room furtiniture is outdated and broken. We get to our room and the balcony door would not lock. Went to reception and they had to come and check and fix it. Public wash rooms door lock not working. Buffet is ok but pretty much everyday same food. Sometime 10 min wait for some food. All meet very hard and not cooked. The beach was really nice but u have to go before breakfast to get loung chair  [... read more]because after breakfast u are not getting one. Not enough there. Pool was good but always cold water. The snack bar in the back is really good. Either then these couple of issues it was a good holiday.

Pleasantly surprised

Besides the long wait (well over 1 hour with no welcome drinks) to check-in and room still not being ready, we enjoyed everything else after (pillows and bed could have been more comfortable). It’s a bigger resort than what we are used to, but really appreciated being on the quieter half of the resort near the relaxing pool. We had not been to Cuba for 5 years and were not sure what to expect, but it was definitely better and we would go again!

Amazing Place

The resort was clean, the staff were friendly, and the food was okay. Yes there are things that the hotel could improve - bathrooms closer to the beach, or check in procedures to name a few. Would I stay again - you bet I will.

Perfect getaway!

This was my first time to Cuba and I loved it! The resort was beautiful and the beach was absolutely stunning! I had read plenty of bad reviews about the food my family and I had no problem with it but my wife is a vegetarian and didn’t have many options! The resort were wonderful and kind andvery helpful people, the Cuban people don’t make much money and I was disappointed to see a lot of other tourists not tipping or even being gratuitous towards them. I would recommend bringing some bug  [... read more]spray because the mosquitos suck! All in all we had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning!

Great resort!

I had a wonderful vacation at the Valentin Perla Blanca. The rooms were clean, the food was good and the staff were very personable and helpful. I found the whole resort to be well managed and very clean. I would definately return to this resort.

Good resort

Amazing sandy beach. Hotel clean and friendly personnel. Perfect temperature. Good night entertainment. 5 restaurants, I recommend the French cuisine was very good. 2 pools allowed quite pool for relax and enjoy. With excellent bar attendants at the pool.

INCREDIBLE!!!!! 2nd visit and still great after Irma

This resort is great from start to finish. We did get a not so nice room but were switched the next morning. The left side of the beach is the best and we only used the pool to sand-off (was pretty cool for the pool in january). French à la carte was the very best! The buffet was great except one meal that seemed like they were running out of food. We still ate and drank more than enough and had an amazing time and met really awesome people. Not to bad

The staff were really good i would give them a 5* but the bathrooms were really gross, dirty, no toilet paper, some no toilet seat. Our bedsheets never got changed and are beach towel never got replaced untill we figured out that we take them to get new ones. Food was not the greatest. Cuban was scrambles left over dried pork, and chicken sanwichs taste like tuna. Drinks are really good and they sure give u lots. Service was great. My review

Just came back on Feb 7, 2018 after spending a week at this hotel. I will not complain about the food because it's Cuba. You should know already. Always go to Cuba with a bottle of ketchup and you'll survive the week. Hotel is great, grounds are maintained, washrooms can use some better cleaning or air fresheners. Rooms are absolutely beautiful but bring a pillow if you have issues with sleeping in a 2 inch tall king size pillow cause that's what they have. Beaches are fairly clean and wa [... read more]ter was as you would expect it in Cuba. Beach could've used a clean up of the seaweed that washed ashore. I know I've seen them do it in Varadero. If you're looking to book up then it's a great place for single girls and guys. I was with my wife but we both observed this. There's not much to do outside of the hotel except their excursions but if you're going for a relaxing break it's the spot for you.

Fantastic resort!

The food was excellent and the cheeses were fantastic, every kind imaginable! Even a picky eater would have no problem finding something to eat there. The staff were great and very helpful when you needed something. We had a fabulous vacation in Cuba! 👍

It’s a no !

Well for our first time going to Cuba I must say it was an experience we won’t soon forget. 1st day 12hr delay in flight(Cubana Air). Won’t fly with them again. Requested to stay second floor or higher. Was put on Ground floor. As soon as the room door was opened we could smell the musty and Mold. Went back to front desk right away to get room change. It took us 5 days to get a room change. pool bar ran out of beer everyday took a longtime for them to refill. Nightlife entertainment was ok. They didn’t refill toilet paper at nighttime in the bathrooms by the bar. We saw a cleaning girl pour her dirty water on the plants in the main lobby. The staff only a couple of people were nice. We did go on a 3 city tour that was good. Didn’t realize we had to buy toilet paper or bring your own one spot you had to pay to use bathroom. Very clean and pretty

all the workers were great and a joy to talk to. the facilities were very clean and beautiful and beach was wonderful both ways but never had the chance for the water activities due too poor weather but that never stopped us from having fun with our new friends we meet. besides not the greatest selection of food that was eatable this resort was overwhelmed with our friends from Quebec that lived up to their reputation of just plain rude sorry everyone else with manners over all good place  [... read more]but would try another if i get a chance to go back

Very nice!

The resort is large and well kept. The beach is stunning. The room was clean and service was good. There is only one buffet which gets really busy. The restaurants were a nice change from the buffet. All in all it is a good resort and great value for the cost.

If it weren’t for the uncomfortable beds...

Overall vacation was great and the staff was amazing. Did the Jeep Safari and had a great time, would recommend wearing running shoes and brining own toilet paper. And now for the details of the disappointments - arrived at 12:30 and waited an hour and a half in line at reception and the room was not ready; was told to come back in 3 hours (after 5pm) for the room. The overall cleanliness was good; however, beds were very uncomfortable, it was comparable to sleeping on a college dorm mattress [... read more]; very hard, no softness. Pillows were also not comfy, very thin, no softness/fluff. Room was on ground floor (not recommended) lots of ants (had to spray bug spray every night). Patio door did not lock or have a tight seal; pretty sure that’s how all mosquitos came in. The building itself echoed and one could hear everything in the room. The pizza bar always had a line (but was not open every day). There was usually a line which took about an hour of waiting just to order the pizza, and then another 60 minutes wait to get the actual pizza. Not all the a la carts are open each day. The same venue is shared for multiple restaurants and the each have their designated days they are open. I do not recommend the “upgrade” VIP at the airport on the way back. The gimmick was “no lines” which had us sold, but there were lines. Had special VIP line to check baggage, which was moving just as fast as regular line, but still had an overflow of people as everyone with the upgrade was in the line. Special line to go through the customs before the security, again, long line as everyone with the upgrade was in the same line. When we finally got to the lounge, there was no spot to sit as it was overcrowded. They say you are issued a bracelet to come and go at ease, but received no bracelet. Only bonus is the unlimited drinks and hot sandwiches, but for the price of the upgrade (and hassle of lines) one could purchase these commodities at the general airport waiting area. If it weren’t for the beds being very uncomfortable and hard to sleep on, I would recommend the resort, and do a return trip myself.

Amazing staff

The staff made up for some of the flaws, ran out of bread 4 days in a row. Chicken was for the most part raw. The pizza hut also ran out of their bread dailybas well. Fortunately we found good fruit and vegetables. Beach was clean and gorgeous. The pool was Lovely and staff were wonderful and assertive. Rooms were clean and cool. So over all 6/10

Spacious Resort

This is a great resort and we were not disappointed. Their rooms are very comfortable and lots of room to unpack with plenty of drawer space. Also a plus is screens for patio doors we were able to sleep to the sound of the ocean. The lobby and bar is very roomy good thing as we had rainy days. The buffet had a good selection of foods even the pickiest eater would make out okay. Because of hurricane damage selection of fresh fruit was limited. The a la carte restaurants were good and offered a ni [... read more]ce change. On a whole the property was very clean and gardens well maintained. The pool areas were clean and basically provided shade when required. The beach has about 4 different locations with separate paths to each. 2 beaches were very nice as others needed work done to them. We would recommend to anyone.

Beautiful resort and employees! Management needs to better take care of the guests concerns

The positive - Beautiful lobby. Food is good, beach and pools are beautiful. Tennis courts and gym are good. Good Cuban bands in the lobby bar area in the evenings. The not so good- Hotel guest relations is the place to address any issues. Very little of our concerns were addressed. Lots of guests drinking at this resort, we heard fighting, swearing and saw lots of drunk guests and the fall out of that. Many issues with our room, and heard many other guests concerns. 1* not 5*

Room was amazing. Had an amazing young man (waiter and lady who conducted the entertainment at the pool both went above and beyond my expectations) But that’s where it ends. Service when I first got there was absolutely brutal! We got in at 1:30am no one smiled no one welcomed us, a party of 8 girls for a 50th birthday. Paid $1800 for Imperial Suite that included a welcoming drink, didn’t get one until I went to the bar. Gave me a voucher for my Lobster Dinner for two when I arrived then end [... read more]ed up charging me for the dinner for two before I departed the following Friday no bottle of Rum or Massage which I paid for in my package! And to top off my week charged me $5.90 which I had to pay for before they would give me my ticket to leave Cuba for an umbrella that another vacationer stole from the restaurant I was at on my birthday. I spent more time at the front desk with a bunch of staff that could not make a decision without talking to someone more superior ( who would not come out to talk to me directly) Every public bathroom smelled like urine and consistently ran out of toilet paper ( we carried our own rolls in our purses after the second day. I would never recommend this resort solely on the lack of customer service. The staff is very young, could not speak English and the staff that could either couldn’t make a decision or was just plan rude. Maids were totally rude and more interested in where my missing umbrella was, bugged me for three days about it. Hope they loved the tips I gave them well for the first three days.Bartenders at the pool where the activity’s were we 5 star. As well as activities staff 5 stars. But the other Bartenders in the small main bar up top looked angry all the time as well as the waitresses in the bar area. As for the food it was ok not great and three days in ran out of bread and vodka. Try and order food at the 24 hour restaurant and you think your getting a sandwich and you get a salad. If you enjoy No Bread, No Service, French Fries, and can Pee Standing Up then book now!

Pooba

Sunwing Airlines travel was great; courteous and friendly staff, plenty of help, directions, and hints from employees. The hotel (Valentin Perla Blanca) was satisfactory, but left much to be desired. Our room was nice enough, but the bed had plastic sheets and was uncomfortable. The staff were either extremely friendly and helpful or disinterested and uncaring, regardless of how much you tipped. (On that note, it is hard to believe what the guides tell you about tipping — the reaction to [... read more] a tip is the same, whether it’s $1 or “a month’s rent”.) The bar serves cheap booze unless you upgrade your club status to “Privilege” — which we did — and then you still must insist on the premium alcohol for each drink. The beach was nice and well kept, especially considering the recent hurricane. The pool areas are also welcoming except for two huge factors: the pools are ice cold, and NO ONE used them; the daily stage activities are loud and obnoxious, led by staff who I assume were elected because they had the most annoying voices among the staffers. One aside: the playlist is repetitive and tired. Bring your own music. The tours offered by the various agencies in the lobby are quite expensive and you can find them cheaper if you look. Example: we went to Remedios (an hour away) for a day. It was $75 CUC each for four of us to take the tour bus. We got a cab for $50 each way for all of us. The dolphin swim: DO NOT GO unless you can swim with a heavy heart. The catamaran trip to the dolphin prison was terrific, but once there, we immediately regretted this excursion. The dolphins are obviously starved and likely hurt themselves out of boredom or frustration. It was tragic. Lastly, the reason for the title of this review: Pooba. Not less than 50 times, did our group of ten get stranded in a toilet stall with no paper. FIFTY!!!! We learned the hard way to bring paper with us everywhere we went. Everywhere. Even when we were the first table seated at one of the Privilege a la carte dining rooms, we discovered that there was no paper in the restroom. In any of the stalls. In either men’s or women’s. We checked. More than once. I cannot emphasize this enough, because we are not accustomed to this even in slummy Vancouver parks’ washrooms, let alone a supposed 5-Star hotel. The food is unremarkable. It’s best to just lower your expectations and be pleasantly surprised. All in all, this trip reinforced my disdain for all-inclusive resorts, but — if this one resort is exemplary of Cuba — then the service and attitude pales in comparison to Mexico, where tips seem to mean something and the staff actually work for them.
