This was a nice relaxing resort. It never felt crowded, as it was spread out along the ocean. You could get a shaded outdoor bed at anytime. Lots of natural palm trees provided shade everywhere. Both at the pools, and along the walkways.
There was a lot of variety of food and restaurants. The house wines were decent. Premium liquors were readily available.
The resort staff were genuinely friendly. More friendly than any other mexican resort that we've been to.
Downfalls - The [... read more]water at the beach was too rough for swimming or snorkeling. There is no proper disco. There are NO fresh juices offered at the resort, aside from a couple of small glasses at the breakfast buffet. That was pretty disappointing for a gourmet food resort.
My husband got food poisoning at the resort. He has never been sick at any other resort in Mexico.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Barely 3 star room, 4 star everything else
Disclaimer: I’m an airline pilot that stays in hotels roughly 16 nights per month
The bad:
Our room in villa 12, (1204-2) had a broken table lamp, mould in the bathroom/shower/toilet, surface rust on all the metal finishes, broken shower door hinges, and paint splatter on the ground. This is disappointing because the modern decor would be great with some proper upkeep and attention to detail! Think W hotel style room with poor materials and workmanship. After mentionning all of this to [... read more]our Transat rep on the premises he walked us over the to the front desk and they just said we can’t do a room change, just write down what’s wrong with the room and we will send someone. Nothing was done during the whole 7 day stay and I stopped trying with our transat rep/front desk because they seemed completely unwilling to help.
Welcome champagne and fruit plate was not provided as per the transat booking details
This resort is very agressive on trying to upsell you at every opportunity. Such as, premium liquor, premium wine, certain dishes cost more, spa services, etc. I already paid for an all inclusive resort, stop pestering me for upsells when I’m trying to relax on vacation.
The good:
Medium size of resort is great for walkability
Lots of neat pools laid out around the villas
Patch of jungle with cool wildlife (monkeys, gator, boar)
Adult only pool/area is brand new
Almost all the food was very good
Service at bars and restaurants was very good
The taco lady in the mornings is amazing!
The rooms in the newer section by the adult pool are very nice!
The property itself is kept in very good shape.
In conclusion: With some upgrades to the older rooms and better front desk customer service this could truly be a 4-4.5 star hotel. For now it is not.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Family Friendly-ish
This hotel is a tough one to review because the grounds, rooms, pools are all lovely. We had a nice stay, but encountered some service issues that I think wouldn't exist if we hadn't taken our one year old. We aren't people who normally order room service, but because we had a baby with us, we ate in our room a couple of nights as he was too tired to go out. The hotel doesn't deliver any drinks to your room! We envisioned having a glass of wine on our balcony while our child slept, nope. Th[... read more]ey have great kids club and pool and splash pad, yet the evening entertainment is so loud it sounds like bongo drums outside your door, and goes on sometimes till 11 pm. Not ideal when you have children. We also found the "all inclusive" part to be misleading as they gave us such a hard time about premium alcohol every time we would order a drink. We tried to order Heineken every time my husband wanted a beer, and every time they would say they don't have any (despite the fact we could see other people drinking it). Then we would argue with them, and they would miraculously find it. Same goes for any premium vodka. Due to some service issues, we were told we would have a $150 credit on our room and we could use it to purchase something at the resort. When we went to do so the next day, the credit had disappeared and management claimed to not know what we were talking about. Other little things like the staff in the shop being rude when we asked to borrow an air pump (we could see it on the counter, no one was using it) and they refused to let us use it for our child's blow up toy. Other resorts the staff were much more accommodating, and would have blown the toy up for us. Overall the resort is really nice (apart from the evening noise) but it's these little service issues that left a bad taste in our mouth and we wouldn't return.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Great Family Resort!
The FOOD was exceptional! Even the buffet was a hit! Only down side was all of the algae (kelp) that washed up to shore. The poor men would be clearing it for the majority of the day only for it to return a few hours later. Not sure if this is 'that time of year' thing. Overall fantastic resort! Would highly recommend.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great Family Resort
There were six of us on our family vacation, ranging in age from 12 (grandson) to 63 and we all had a really great holiday. We had three rooms, all in the same building. We were able to connect easily through the hotel telephone system or using their wifi on on cells.
The gourmet a la carte restaurants were amazing! My favourite was the Italian restaurant - beef tenderloin, seafood pasta, Yummy! The staff were helpful, friendly and courteous. Our room was always kept clean and fresh by Esperanza. Our king bed was very comfortable. We experienced some plumbing issues with our toilet - couldn't flush any paper!
We all loved the beach and enjoyed fabulous beach massages. The kids got nonpermanent tattoos. Day trips were abundant, but understand the cancellation policy...very difficult to get a refund.

Sensatori Resort Punta Cana: beautiful resort
Just returned from Sensatori, and had a great week with two other couples.Other than the cook at the beach restaurant, everyone else was more than helpful and friendly at this resort. The check in staff changed our room promptly when we found out that we had been put in a room that was two blocks over from where our friends were. All the a la cart restaurant restaurants were very good, and the buffet restaurant had a very good selection both for dinner, and for breakfast as well. The pool and be[... read more]ach staff were great, and it was nice to have a burger, hot dog or beef and chicken skewer off the grille for lunch instead of going into the restaurants for lunch. The entertainers worked hard every night, both in the arena area and the adult lounge. All three couples had a very enjoyable week.

Sensatori Resort Punta Cana: Excellent resort
This was our 7th trip to DR and it did not disappoint. We decided to try something new and looked for new resort to try. Sensatori was excellent. The resort was beautiful and well maintained. Rooms were a good size - a little on the plain side but very functional (balconies were very large with nice views). The pool and beach area was excellent. The beach area was one of the best we have been at. The infinity pool was beautiful and provided an excellent atmosphere with the ocean in the backdro[... read more]p. Restaurants were all good, with some being excellent (K-23). Breakfast buffet had something for everyone. The adults only lounge was a nice touch where you could go in, have a nightcap (or two) and listen to some excellent performers in a nice quaint atmosphere.
Overall, we would recommend this resort to couples or families alike. We had an excellent time.

El Dorado Royale: Wonderful vacation away from the cold!
El Dorado Royale was a nice resort with lovely grounds and excellent food. The beach was a bit disappointing as it was generally steep, dirty most of the time, and very little safe areas to swim if you wanted due to the surf and rocks. That said, there were lots of restaurants and bars to choose from and the serving staff were excellent.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Small yet provides all amenities
We stayed at this resort for 2 weeks. Jan.21- Feb.4, 2018.
One of the things we look for when choosing a resort is its proximity to the airport. I absolutely hate having to travel 1 to 2 hours on a bus dropping off or picking up people. This resort is very close to the airport approx. 15 - 20 min drive. Perfect location for us.
A very comfortable, clean full service resort. Pays attention to detail. A la cartes are true a la cartes with exceptional service.
Outstanding food. We avoided the[... read more] buffet as much as possible as we find we tend to fill our plates too easily and too much. LOL But the buffet does offer much selection. One day I asked if they ever served onion soup. They said yes but offered to make it for me whenever I wanted. So I asked if I could have it the next day. They asked what time. The next day we went up to the buffet at the time requested and they were standing waiting for us. The soup was served immediately. Now that's what I call service! Thanks to the chef and Oscar the waiter.
OMG the bread and pastries are beyond delicious. Hot, fresh right out of the oven. We usually ate breakfast at the Caribbean Restaurant which provided full service. Janet the hostess was extra special always greeting us with her beautiful smile and sweet personallity. The smoked salmon and eggs Benedict were beyond delicious. Mimosas were a treat as well as the bottle of Baileys sitting out to add that special touch to delicious coffee. A few things are extras ex. Tomahawk steak. We did order it one night. It was well worth the price we paid. I'd say the best steak we've ever had. Cooked to perfection. The same steak at a very popular venue we went to in NYC costs 3X's the amt.
Drinks are okay. I'm not a lover of all those sweet drinks and they use those syrups which are not my fav either. The Mojito bar, up in the lobby area, use real fruit if you ask. Strawberry Mojitos are amazing. Can never go wrong with wine and beer which were very good. One thing they did serve was Captain Morgan "white" rum. First resort we've ever been to that had this usually the only Captain Morgan served is Spiced. At times they did run out of different liquors ie Crown Royal, 43 Liquor, Tequila Cream. When asked if they had any "maybe later". That should not happen but certainly there were lots of other choices available. Breakfast and lunch are also served directly on the beach. Nothing like being able to enjoy a meal outside with your feet in the sand feeling that heat on your body.
At the Tapas restaurant there is no menu but the food choices served changes 3 x's a week. There are 6 different courses all small, delicious and very filling. One of our fav restaurants. The Mexican restaurant has a more relaxed fun atmosphere. They focus on entertaining their guests while enjoying a great meal. The Italian restaurant is also great. OMG the tiramisu is to die for.The Caribbean restaurant was another of our favourites. This is the restaurant that has full service breakfast as well. There is a bar just outside this restaurant where Louis the bartender provides exceptional service and whatever drink you can think of as long as his bar is stocked with what you request.
There is excellent nightly entertainment in main lobby as well in an area just outside the lobby.
We also spent extra to go to the Chic Diamond rated restaurant. They served a 16 course meal consisting of very small samples. The presentation was amazing and the service was over the top. We had lovely evening which lasted for about 2 1/2 -3 hours. I'm sill not sure what we had to eat as everything was very unique.
I really can't say anything negative about this resort. It provided us with everything we needed for 2 weeks. We are beach people so we never laid around the pool. Beach drink service is provided if you wish to use it.The beach is constantly being freed of seaweed. We did not go into the water but that's just who we are. There were plenty of people who did. The beach is also easy to walk on in either direction. We meant many wonderful people mainly a UK and Canadian destination at least during the time we were there.
I have no hesitations in recommending this resort.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancun: Azul does it right.
Our experience was beyond expectations. We stayed at Azul Beach Hotel from January 29-Feb 5 2018. We received impeccable service starting with our concierge Jacob, and the dining was five stars. Very gourmet and healthy. Don’t think you will be receiving American style huge portions. If you are hungry order an appetizer too, the menus are designed as multi course experiences. Drinks were awesome. Lots of signature drinks with fresh fruit and herbs. Our kids (6M and 3Y) had a great time at Azul[... read more]itos play area and we used the nanny service twice. The ladies there (Tonya, Azi) were so great. The beach was glorious with white soft sand and the beach cabanas with butler service were a real treat. You can reserve one once during your stay and it is lovely. The pools are well maintained and the kiddie pool is awesome- large and lots of lounge chairs for both adult and kid sizes. We never were short of towels or beach or pool chairs. We are definitely going back.

El Dorado Royale: Such a great resort
We had a short stay at El Dorado Royale for our 20th anniversary. It was an exceptional experience. The resort is very well managed - people are very friendly and always say Hola to you whenever and wherever they see you. The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: No longer a great resort: 3rd time was not a charm.
This place has become another typical loud & obnoxious Cancun resort. This is our 3rd and last stay here. We used to be loyal patrons while this was a family-oriented hotel but it looks like the management is now opting for attracting a different (read: loud and drunk) type of crowd as well. Here are the positives and negatives.
Positives:
- Staff. Waiters, cooks, maids, landscapers etc working at this resort are lovely, hard working people and they deserve & appreciate every tip you give t[... read more]hem.
- the grounds are beautiful & and the food is delicious. However, this is Mexico and there are a lot of beautiful resorts with delicious food.
Negatives:
- No longer a family friendly place! My children should not be seeing drunk people screaming 'shots' at 4pm in the afternoon (or at any other time).
- Inconsiderate wedding parties! We got no sleep because we had a misfortune of being placed next to a wedding party who decided to spill out in the corridor in front of our hotel room & then continue with loud music until early morning hours.
- Loud music is now everywhere. In our previous stays we enjoyed the quiet house music at the main pool & the serenity of the beach and the other pools. No longer the case.
Overall, I can no longer recommend the place. Which is a real shame, given what a great place it used to be.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Best One Yet
First time at Azul Fives in Maya Riveria. Initially not sure about the layout as it is large, but fantastic. Grounds were very well kept and clean. Large forest area throughout that let the monkeys roam at will. This resort caters to the wildlife as well as the guest, nice touch.
Food was outstanding and the best we have had in our multiple trips through out Mexico. No restrictions on ala carte restaurants and only needed to make reservations at 2 of the 6. Gourmet Food in all areas and tasty.[... read more]
Service was excellent and all were very friendly and greeted with genuine pleasure. Only exception was the bartenders around the beach, not very accommodating to guest at the bar. I believe it was because they were understaffed and trying to meet everyone's needs. Beach was excellent well cared for, other pools (all throughout) were nice but too cold to get into. The adult pool was the exception as it was heated and nice and quiet.
Thanks to all the staff

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Azul Fives Resort, Riviera Maya
Just got back from a weeks stay at this hotel and had a very good week. The hotel itself is beautiful with luxurious suites and many pools and a infinity pool overlooking the sand beach and ocean.
The people who work here are very pleasant everywhere on the resort. The restaurants were excellent; having many to choose from like Mexican, Italian, French, Thai, Sushi and beautiful buffet breakfasts in a restaurant called Flavors.
Had a massage and facial done at the Vassar Spa which was on[... read more]e of the best massages I have ever had. The therapists name I had was Luis and I would highly recommend him.
On the down side we had to change room after two days because the unit above us was remodeling and jackhammering which was extremely noisy. Also, we had paint on our bathing suits from splatters from the above renovation. That being said; overall we would return here but would make sure the room we get the next time would not be having anything happening above it.
I would like to say that Rick from tripcentral did an excellent job for us arranging this trip.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Reasonable value
Mixed reviews for this property: This resort itself was lovely despite having a beach that is not. The staff was extremely helpful and we were grateful for the special touches they provided for our anniversary. Sunwing did promote a warm welcome with a cool towel and a glass of sparkling wine which we did not get. Azul bills itself as a gourmet all inclusive yet the only true gourmet experience is at Le Chique which has a hefty surcharge given what has already been paid for a so called all inclu[... read more]sive. Many other things incurred a surcharge too and the wine list prices were extremely high. On several occasions we were told something was unavailable only to find out it was. (Specific example would be to be told there was no red wine at Sunday night dinner or no cappuccino early in the morning only to move one bar or restaurant over and find it available...) That being said, food was presented nicely and service was generally good. All in all, the property represents reasonable value but cannot be considered a gourmet experience or a 4-5 star hotel.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancun: one of our favorite resorts
The grounds were clean and well groomed, the pool was clean and the rooms spacious. The food was not the best we have had, but the people made up for that. All of the employees are so friendly. They could not do more for you. The beach is not great as the seaweed is thick, but they are working at keeping it as clean as possible all day long.

Azul Beach Resort Negril: 7 Mile Beach is Awesome!!!
We just returned from our trip to Azul and had a amazing time! The staff is super friendly and always making sure your having a great trip. There is to many people to name! Everyone of the resort staff did a amazing job! The food at all of the la carte restaurants were all delicious. Our favourite was Garfields Beach House! Everyone of the bartenders were very friendly and went out of there way for you. The beach is amazing! You can just walk until your back burns lol We’ve been to Jamaica 5 t[... read more]imes and this was our first to Negril. It is worth it! We’ll be coming back for sure. Are only negative thing to say is that there was no Sunwing Rep at the hotel. He was there from 1:00 till 2:00 and he seemed always rushed to leave. We had a problem booking an excursion to go to Ricki’s cafe. It’s the first resort I’ve been to where there isn’t a sunwing Rep at the resort for the full day. But this had nothing to do with Azul. We’ll be talking to Sunwing about this. And if you are worried about going to Jamaica because of the lockdown? Don’t be. Montego Bay seemed like there was more police presence and a check point leaving St. James the rest of Jamaica seemed normal. We will definitely be coming back to this resort!!
