Luxury Bahia a Principe Don Pablo Collection, Ambar Greesn- NOT five STAR

Grounds, common areas beautiful and well maintained, however, the food and most definitely the service diminish the five star rating to a big average three. Once past the beauty of the resort, you soon experience the lack lustre in the quality of the food. For example, Breakfast variety often cold, nothing was hot. Other than the coffee. Service staff with the exception of a very few were not welcoming, helpful nor efficient. More than not the language barrier hindered understanding. And, g [... read more]et this, we even experienced the rolling of the eyes! And were told on one occasion there was no coconut rum in a five star resort. The waitress actually could not be bothered to call to get a bottle restocked. Moreover, when my wife slipped in the bathroom due to the air unit leaking while we slept, not one staff member asked if she was hurt. They sent someone to fix it 25 minutes later. Using every towel in this so called five star bathroom to wipe up the water. Leaving us with NO towels until eight a.m. When house keeping went on duty. This occurred again the night before we left. This time I was the one to walk into the pool of water at three a.m. They came right away, again, using all towels. There is no consistency here in getting your concerns addressed. We will not be going back.

Awesome Hotel

This hotel exceeded our expectations. It's beautiful and was one of the nicest all inclusive hotel we've stayed in. The rooms were great, clean/attended to daily. The food selection was exceptional and the staff were always nice and helpful. I definitely recommend this place. We stayed in the Ambar Green (the best one). Cheers, -

Good value

The resort was great but the effort Tripcentral made for our request was very lacking.Ambar green was only about 75%full and we were put in the old section on the third floor where the shower was in the hot tub very unsafe for seniors.We were able to change rooms ourselves very easily.I would not recommend tripcentral any more.

Luxury Bahia Ambar Green excellent resort

This is a fantastic resort. I stayed here last year at the sister resort Ambar Blue and it is a fantastic resort as well. The beach and beach bar staff are great. The staff were constantly walking around taking drink orders from the resort patrons. There were plenty of loungers/chairs on the beach even though we always arrived at around 10:00am every morning. The beer consisted of 2 brands and was/is very good. The rooms with the exception of one day, were cleaned day very quickly and efficiently. There were plenty of face, hand and bath towels left in the bathrooms everyday. The mini bar was stocked every day with water, pop, beer and mini bottles of liquor. The beds were a little hard but did not prevent us from getting a good nights sleep. There was a minor issue with the safe which was taken care of very quickly after a call to the service desk. With this resort, you can have a different a la carte restaurant every night. All of the a la carte restaurants were very good. The food was excellent with many different dishes to choose from and the service was excellent as well. We had the Dominican, French, Mexican, Italian, Steak, Japanese, and the buffet for seafood on Tuesday nights. There was some construction ongoing next door but it only occurred during the day and early evening and did not prevent us from getting a good nights sleep. We usually tipped the room cleaning staff, bar staff and restaurant staff for the excellent service. I would highly recommend this resort to family, friends, acquaintances, and even strangers.

Very good 4.5 star overall

Very good rooms in Ambur Green which is the 2 yr old section. Food was above avg. service at times was below avg but other times very good. Room cleaning was very good, mini bar service at times was lacking. Beach was very crowded and would be worse at peak season with 5000 rooms fully booked. A la carte dining reservations very difficult to get even with 60% occupancy which was the most disappointing, buffets were very good. Entertainment was actually very good for middle age and above

Wonderful resort!

This resort is beautifully kept. The grounds are immaculate, pools spotless and common areas are all kept very clean. You will see all staff constantly working to maintain this high level of care. The rooms are lovely with a sitting area with a small table, desk and sofa. There is either a king four poster bed or to queen four poster beds. We were in a king the roo is spacious and very clean. Al a carte restaurnts that we dined in were all very good with good service. The buffett is excellent with lots of variety even for the picky eater. Overall we had a lovely stress free 2 week stay. Amazing resort

Loved it. Family vacation, service was great. Beach awesome. One issue was not enough clean towels at the pool for exchanging. Restaurants were good but hard to get reservations at 6 PM and we ate late a lot. There was construction directly behind our rooms and the construction crews worked day and until 11 PM at night. Noisy when in the rooms but not in the room that often. But they woke us up at 7 AM.

Not as good as I remember

Not as good as we remember. It was our second time here, and we had alot of issues with our room. The construction next door sucks but isn't the hotels fault. Our air conditioner leaked for 3 days into jacuzzi before being fixed. Then it stopped working completely one night and I called and complained. Nothing was done until I found a maintenance guy and brought him into room and showed him how to bypass it. Room was never restocked with soap water alcohol or chips unless you called Butler and [... read more] complained.

5 star resort wito a few room blips

The food and grounds are beyond amazing! We were disappointed by our room this time; we had a shower stall that was not clean (mould around the base and covering the shower head), our air conditioner was leaking into the jacuzzi tub and the maid staff didn't stock the mini fridge or provide soap. Although these may seem like minor details we wasted more time than I wanted attempting to communicate and get what we needed. All and all a really great place.

Last Time - Never Going Back

This was our 3rd time at the Ambar resort (once Ambar blue, 2 Ambar green). We emailed out room request 6 weeks in advance. Arrived around 12 noon. Check in was a nightmare. Our rooms where not ready until approximately 3:30 p.m. and we were given rooms in the 8400 facing construction on the first floor. Next day, Daniella at the Ambar Green gave us what we had originally requested which was pool side view on second floor. Thank you Daniella. The fridge was never restocked properly even  [... read more]after leaving a note. Towels were not replaced and we were missing something almost every day (coffee, sugar, cream). Asked for 3 wake up calls. Never got them. Thank god I had brought my own alarm clock. Food at the buffet is good but after six days, repetitious. Will not be returning.

Relaxing place

It was a nice place and very clean. Very busy resort and at the time there was a lot of construction next door. The bedrooms were beautiful. Wish there was a place to go dancing nighttime. The food was decent. The garden grill was the best place.

Very relaxing and enjoyable stay

stayed April 12-19 (over Easter) BP resorts are well-oiled machines; cleanliness and physical beauty are their brand. The staff work tirelessly to keep everything from the grounds to the presentation of food looking picture perfect. They also try hard to create special experiences for their guests (e.g. sunset champagne party, gin and tonic bar, beach party, etc.). check-in: like other travellers, the construction situation caused us to be in a construction-facing room on our arrival night [... read more], but we were promptly switched to another room the next day. I felt like BP staff were genuinely trying to make the best of a bad situation. However, it would have been nice to be told this at check-in rather than have us return to the lobby. But since we were expecting a less than smooth check-in, we just rolled with it. Food: great variety (perhaps a bit too much at times as there appeared to be a lot of food waste), fresh, seasonal, tasty. Would have been great if the buffet food was a tad hotter, but it's a feat preparing so much food for so many people. Kudos to the staff for continuously filling our plates and glasses with such delicacies. A la cartes were fun. The apps at the Italian restaurant were particularly memorable -- so plentiful and delicious. I also enjoyed the desserts -- not the typical buffet butter tart/carrot cake/brownie fare, but unique, regionally inspired and not overly sweet desserts. Service: friendly and prompt; not the same standards that we expect in N.America, but considering the language barrier, the service was very good Tips for first-timers: bring your own thermal cups (good for your beer and the planet). The towel game is a real thing this time of year, however we were able to find beach spots in the shade by the time we switched from pool to beach mid-afternoon. The resort is not known for its entertainment (e.g. compared to the Hard Rock), but there is a night life -- head to the resort Village in the evening. The resort is big, but not impossible to get around. We jogged a nice 4 km loop most mornings. We tipped, but not all the time and did not feel that staff expected tips in exchange for service. Overall this resort will leave you happy, especially considering it is well below $2000 CAD. We will be back.

An amazing week

The Ambar Green exceeded expectations. The resort was incredibly clean, staff were friendly and always available to help, rooms were beautiful. The pool was great, plenty of loungers and if they ran out of umbrellas they went and got more. You saw staff cleaning the pool daily. The animation team was a lot of fun but also didn't push to involve people of they wanted to relax. The beach is by far the best I've ever seen. Powdery sit sand and that perfect turquoise water. Paradise!

Beautiful place to relax and wine and dine. The staff were amazing. The grounds were immaculate. The food was great. The entertainment staff were wonderful. Lots to see and do. Will definitely go back!

Great Resort Experience

We are just back from a Feb 27 - April 3 stay. Like most people I did a bit of research before deciding on the resort we would go to. Although not all reviews on TA for Ambar Green were super positive, most were and I have to support those reviewers who had a good experience - we certainly did. Without hesitation I would recommend a stay at Ambar Green. Construction alert though.....we were lucky to have a room poolside in Ambar Green. Rooms that faced the construction next door (very noisy  [... read more]and dusty) in Ambar Green or Ambar Blue likely did not enjoy their experience as much. Make sure you request a poolside room or one not facing the construction through your agent and/or directly with the resort. They give no guarantees, but it might up your chances. We had perfect weather, the beach was wonderful, the accommodations were great, the pools were plentiful and fun to be at, and overall the food was very good - so what's not to like! We found the service to be very good everywhere on the resort - offer up a friendly face and you got lots of smiles and great service in return. We spent our time between the beach and the pools - we preferred the pool at Ambar Blue - a bit more shade and more fun. And get over it - yes you have to get up early to reserve a spot at the beach or the pool if you want a prime shady location. Heck you are in paradise - get out of bed and enjoy it:))! The beach and water are amazing - great swimming. The buffets and A la carte restaurants were all good. Our only bad experience was at the French restaurant Don Pablo on our first night - we had no food after 1.5 hrs, so we left and went to the buffet. I assume they had some issue in the kitchen - we complained, but never got a response. Our last night was at El Olivo - which was awesome. The others were in between - awesome to okay. Tipping - there are lots of thoughts on how much and when - suit yourself. We appreciate good service and tip accordingly. Getting around - this is a very large resort complex - 7 resorts. The journey from Ambar Green to the beach is about 10 minutes walking at a good pace. We are active people, so we opted for this. There are lots of trains/carts to take you wherever you want to go if walking is not your thing. Staying active - the gyms are very poorly equipped, so be aware if you are planning that as your main exercise activity. But if you are a runner/walker - lots of paths to run on/walk on to get in a 5/6K loop within the resort.

First Impressions Matter

Our room backed on to a noisy construction site. When we arrived the key didn't work and there was a linen bag on the bed. The next day a drip from the pot light in the bathroom, ended up being tons of water under the drop ceiling that was emptied onto the bathroom floor by the repair guy. Asked for a new room. Didn't get on until day 4. Room was a nice pool view. Called for help a few times. Calls were transferred several times to find an english speaking aid. Food was good except for  [... read more]the Barbecue A la Carte. Beach was busy but beautiful. Resort was clean. Happy that we were at the Green section with a bit quieter pool area. We will not be returning.

Third time a charm!!

this was our third visit to Luxury Bahia Ambar Green and we will be back. Everything about this resort is great ... food, service, staff, cleanliness. We can't wait to book our next trip to the Luxury Bahia Ambar Green.

Beautiful Resort

All were nice but to far from the Beach.I was disappointed on housekeeping,On the last day ,the room was not clean till 6 pm after complain and was done poorly,they didn't stock the mini bar or bring all the towels.Resort employees English is very poor specially waiters

Fabulous Vacation!

This is an awesome resort with everything you need for a great vacation. The beach is amazing! The restaurants and food are very good. The activities staff are energetic and we found all of the staff friendly and willing to help. There is always something to do. While there were little things that were inconsistent, we really have nothing bad to say about our stay at this resort. The grounds are clean and well maintained. Just watch out for the slippery walkways and floors.
