Barcelo Solymar: very good resort

The food Was very good. The staff was veryshopping market and and the beach was excellent. The location was in close.proximity to varedero City. We took a horse drawn buggy to the shopping area. It was a great way to see the sights. The entertainment at the hotel was top class as well as in the city. The Beatles bar was a hoot! I had an amazing vacation and i can't wait to return.

Barcelo Solymar: Great resort!

Everything was great, hotel, room, food, people, beach, pool, lobby, reception, hotel is 5 minutes walking distance from downtown Varadero, the bank is right beside Arenas Blancas.. I would go back to the same resort again

Occidental Caribe: Awesome vacation!

The chef of this hotel deserves the highest praise!!! The buffet of this hotel had delicious and various food - the most delicious breakfasts, lunches, and suppers that we are ate before on the our vacations. Thanks a lot to all stuff of the kitchen!

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Nope

Wont go back Rooms were outdated, constantly had to be calling maintenance to fix things in the room, broken fridge, broken handles on the drawers , the closet broke off the hindges, the shower soap holder was rotted off the handle, the balcony sliding door was hard to slide back n forth half the time the sliding door got stuck and the Dominican aggresive flies attacked our room. My husband and I tried killing the flies with towels but they wouldnt die lol. The toilet water keep running all nigh [... read more]t so our room was constantly noisey with the toliet water noise running all day n nite. The food was HORRIBLE, you would think the a la cartes would be better and it wasnt. They have a sea food a la carte BEWARE they make you pay extra for the sea food ( not sure why they even call it sea food a la carte ) . The waiter staff are rude, the staff can barely speak proper english or even understand proper english, they are only friendly to their own ppl or ppl who speak spanish. The beach and pools are OKAY, if your staying in Puerta Plata _ take the time and spend the money to grab a cab n visit the local beach Sosua ( GORGEOUS BEACH ) the ppl are bit nicer n friendlier there, u will find more english speaking ppl and ppl who understand english better. Gorgeous view and the food seemed a bit better there too. The Dominican men and women are very good looking just not the friendliest ppl unless your giving them money of course. Would i go back ? Ya - but not to that resort , for me and my advice to anyone who has never been there before _ spend the extra money and stay at a 5 star resort nothing less not even a 4 star _ 5 star or nothing if u want a decent stay down there_ or go to Punta Cana ( which I heard the beaches are much nicer ) al though Sosua was VERY NICE ! More actions and parties and more things to do in Puerta Plata thou.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Beautiful Resort

Very beautiful resort (and huge) with a just as beautiful beach. My one disappointment was that my Prestige Superior Ocean Front View room had a courtyard full of palm trees between it and the ocean..

Barcelo Solymar: Amazing Time!!

Front desk staff were extremely slow, not a very customer service oriented place, you really need to be persistent with the staff if you need something but if you don't depend on them it's AMAZING!!!!

Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabos: Fantastic Resort - great place to relax!

The guestrooms, pools, restaurants, buffet, and grounds were all nice and tidy, very well kept. The food in the buffet and the a la carte restaurants were excellent. The Hotel staff in the restaurants and bars and at the pool were great to deal with. The staff in the Hotel Gift Store were not very friendly. They never smiled. We asked the front desk for change for a $20USD and they sent us to the gift shop for change. The staff in the gift shop immediately said no and finally gave in when we sa [... read more]id the front desk sent us there for change. That is my only complaint.

Sunscape Dominican Beach: Nice resort but....

We were in Punta Cana in late August at the Barcelo Beach. Unfortunately, there was a lot of algea on the beach and cleaning up by staff was not very fast and thourough. The buffet is more or less average and food is just fair. The a la carte restaurant required reservation only 1 day in advance and all have to be made at the desk (not allowed by phone). Occidental Caribe: barcelo punta cana

Barcelo punta cana was "FANTASIC!" i loved it. The food, the water, the rooms was be on great. I even met my forever unicorn, Bruce and I feel in love with each other and Barcelo Punta Cana, two thumbs up!

Barcelo Solymar: Untapped potential

This resort is well situated and has beautiful beaches. However, the staff are not quick to respond to reasonable requests. For example, I had to spend 6 of my 7 days without a working washroom sink despite my request to fix it on day 2. Balcony lights do not work if you want to sit and relax at night time. Two days straight my room was cleaned but all of my towels were removed without providing replacements. Moreover, given the noticeable stains on the bed covers I realized after a few days tha [... read more]t they were not replacing the covers with clean ones; but rather, simply refurnishing the bed with the used covers front the night before. The AC is okay at best. My friend's AC was not functioning for almost the whole week despite telling the front desk several times. The resort is beginning to look worn out and dated. Front desk is painfully slow to resolve any issues or to exchange currency. During the first two says I spent a total of 2 hours waiting at the front desk to check in, exchange money, and report my sink malfunction. That is unacceptable! The resort has decided to remove bracelets altogether so half the time I didn't know if the people on the resort were even allowed there. The majority of the time I felt that there were more locals on the resort vacationing than tourists. If we met other tourists from other resorts and wanted to hang out with them in our room we were told they couldn't be brought on the resort. When we inquired about the passes we were told the passes run from 9 am to 10 pm (day pass) and from 10 pm to 1 am (night pass). So between 1 am and 9 am we couldn't have visitors. What kind of nonsense is that?! Its not like the buffet or bars are even open for them to consume the resort's resources!? The other comical aspect was that the main bar closed at 11 pm. This resort has a reputation for catering to younger crowds, so how does thatmake any sense?! One of my biggest grievances, however, is that they relocated the 24 hour beach bar - which was a beautiful area situated near the beach and away from the sleeping population where party-goers could carry on after the clubs - to a small crevace inside of the arenas blancas resort. It was such a disappointment! I had such a good time at the beach bar last year when I first attended Barcelo Solymar. Why would they relocate something that worked so well and facilitated the needs of the nocturnal guests?! All-in-all the people are still fairly pleasant to deal with but I can see that they are worn thin. This resort had/has so much potential, but it feels like poor management, lack of insight on the wants and needs of the average guest, and lack of basic upkeep has caused this gem of a resort to dwindle into something that I wouldn't recommend to others any longer. What a shame. I hope these simple suggestions become resolved so Barcelo Solymar can return to what it used to be.

Barcelo Solymar: terrible resort

I have traveled a lot through asia and Europe and stayed at many different resorts and this place was easily the worst. People are drunkenly screaming and yelling until 3am the food at times was not edible if you do stay here at the very least stay in one of the detached condos. Great beach though.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: exceptional resort!!!!!!

one of the nicest places we've stayed and adults only! Rooms, food, beach and all amenities were wonderful. great staff. many options for meals, beach, pool and shows being able to utilize the palace resort but they can't use Bavaro Beach! Nice surprise when celebrated my birthday by the resort.....!! Will be back again one day for sure!

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Okay resort

I was getting married , they didn't give us a king sized bed they attached 2 single beds in one which was so un comfortable our tv was broken every time we called they said they would be right up but never came . The food made me really sick and my husband is from the same city and he got even more sick from the food . Verry repetitive . The pizzeria on the top floor was the only good spot I found didn't make me sick , the pool was massive but filled with kids and hotter water then I would have  [... read more]in my bath . The beach is gorgeous as always . The people are rude who work there and to many locals .

Barcelo Solymar: Fabulous Resort

Really enjoyed my time at the Barcelo Solymar! Friendly, helpful staff and when there was a glitch with our reservation we received and upgrade which was far beyond our expectations..! The beach and surrounding resort were beautiful and I would recommend it to all my friends..!!

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: superb resort

rooms were well taken care off. Groom excellent. Overall excellent. would go again tomorrow. Staff superb. I would suggest a softer material for your wrist bracelet. They have a tendency to scratch when you take a shower or scratch you loved ones.

Barcelo Solymar: Amazing Resort

Barcelo is the best resort. I've been to Cuba twice and always only stay at Barcelo, Everyone is so nice including the hotel staff, A lot of great activities. Snorkeling was amazing so was the instructor Miguel. The hotel atmosphere is great if your looking for a guaranteed great time stay in Barcelo Solymar.

Barcelo Solymar: Loved it!

Although the rooms inside that actual hotel were gross and do not recommend them, the bungalows were really good. We got upgraded due to cockroaches in our room so that was the only negative thing. We went during spring break and we met so many amazing people and a lot of Canadians who we have stayed in contact with. We partied every night with at least 20 people. The beach was awesome and had a lot of fun free water activities to do. We were in a central location and could walk downtown to sigh [... read more]t see. There are 3 clubs within walking distance that were great and only a can ride away from the club cave which was so fun! They had 2 beach parties at our hotel while we were there and they were a blast! Food was so-so but I am a very picky eater and yet I did just fine. Eggs, sweets, pasta, fruit and fries is what I ate that week. Definitely bring your own junk food as well though. Two resorts are in one and they say you can't have access to both but we all did. You can eat at that resort too if you want to switch it up. The one is all families and children and the other resort was all 20s and 30s. Staff was okay but could be a bit better and wifi is not great! You have to pay for it and they only have so many cards to give out a day and once they are gone then you are screwed. We did a jeep tour which was really fun as well. Overall, your trip is what you make it and I have been to a lot of places but this was my favour place hands down! Many things can ruin the fun but when you are with awesome people, on a beautiful beach and have unlimited drinks then what could be better?

Barcelo Solymar: Amazing resort

Great party place for young people, great people , staff etc! You won't regret it. The food is as good as it gonna get in Cuba , unless you actually leave the resort scene. Awesome location near clubs !

Barcelo Solymar: ok resort - you get what you pay for

the hotel room was absolutely garbage - but my friends room was decent you get what you pay for - want to go cheap cuba is the way to go beach and water is amazing, cuba's towns not so great if you are smart - do not go here money exchange rate is terrible 1 CDN = 85 cents forgot to mention food = it is edible - it has been 1 week back and i am still not going to the washroom properly. lol

Occidental Tamarindo: A great place to stay!

The Hotel was beautiful and very clean! The food was good and staff were very friendly. The beach was a bit rocky but it was very pretty and quiet. We had a great stay and enjoyed every minute! There wasn't as much to do at night which was the only downside.
