This was our 3rd trip to Paradisus , and we liked the landscape, grounds , general hotel lobby area as much as ever.
Most of all we once again enjoyed the friendliness and excellent service of the staff .
We liked the small salad bar that is now set up for lunch at the Ocean Bar plus a reg. menu. Enjoyed the pig roast a lot which due to weather had to come into the Buffet Restaurant.
One negative that surprised us: Out of 7 nights there we ended up seeing 3 shows that are actually regula[... read more]rly scheduled for 9:30 p.m. every night. The beach party was understandably cancelled due to weather and replaced by "international" ( not the least bit international ). The other nights nice music started at 7 p.m. but carried on as BAND - female and other. Instead of a program we had a band for 3 nights, that was not as before and certainly not as advertised. Never even saw one Cuban or Caribbean dance show- too bad !

Sol Sernias Coral was a great resort.
Clean staff very friendly and helpful
The pool areas were awesome but it was more difficult to get a lounge near the pools
Food was very good as in all resorts if they could keep it warmer st the buffet that would improve it

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Best of Cuba
We have been to this resort twice! Something we never do, always looking for new things, but really loved this place. We upgraded to a cabin when we arrived this time and it was fantastic with an ocean view from our bed, private deck, near the pool and great outdoor shower!
The entertainment wasn’t as good as we expected and unfortunately we had some cloudy and rainy days, but can’t blame them!
We especially like that you can snorkel to corral right at the beach without having to book a[... read more] outing. Having been to 5 resorts 4+ stars in cuba, this is our favourite so far.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Amazing Staff
A lot of the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, especially the ground keepers, and the bar tenders at the 24hr bar and grill. I wish I would have written all their names down, but those particular staff are what make this resort an amazing place. The standard room I stayed in wasn't anything extraordinary. Our toilet wouldn't fully flush unless we grabbed the shower hose and and used it while flushing(my husband came up with that idea), our fridge was never stocked the same way[... read more] twice ( one day we would get 2 pop and 1 beer, the next would be no beer and 1 pop), and I definitely wouldn't say the rooms were "clean". We had two days with no water at all, 4 days with tepid water, and 1 day with actual hot water. The buffet had lots of assortment, and the food wasn't too bad for the most part. The International a la carte was terrible. The meals were not very pleasant, and the waitress never came back with our dessert. The mediterranean a la carte was much better both food wise and service. Over all, if it were not for the few amazing staff I would not consider going back to this resort!

Melia Varadero: Great resort!
I had a fantastic week at the Melia Varadero. The grounds and pool were clean and we'll maintained. The beach was spectacular. The staff was excellent, especially Humberto Reyes, who took care of guests in the VIP beach section. The a la carte restaurants are great. I loved that the red or was beside the Plaza of Americas which has a bank and bank machine. It's across from a golf course. I upgraded to The Level which was amazing. Loved it.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great getaway for first time to Cuba
The resort seemed more Cuban in style than others nearby, with the lobby and cigar bars especially adding to the feel. The buffet was very good, despite many people warning us of bland Cuban food! However, the other restaurants (besides the Cuban beach one) are nothing like the foods they try to be. Cubans do Cuban food well and don't quite have enough info as to other cultures cuisines, not that you cam blame them. We took a bus tour to Havana for the Hemingway tour and had a brilliant full edu[... read more]cational day. The rooms are not much in terms of ambience but the bed was very comfortable and there are plenty of other places to hang out besides your room. We will definitely visit Cuba again!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Just Okay....
Melia Jardines del Rey
THE GOOD - the resort, layout, grounds and rooms are beautiful. The Beach is beautiful and lots of chairs available. Water pressure was good and hot water was always available. Nightly entertainment was very good the dancers and singers really put on a great show.
THE BAD - Food at the buffet was consistently the same (breakfast, lunch and dinner) cold and flavourless. The food at the ala carte was much better but I felt that the food at the ala carte should have[... read more] been the level and quality of food that you received at the buffet. And there was room for improvement at the ala carte and it could taste much better. Snack bar items were limited and tasted okay. How can you go wrong with fries. Burgers had no buns they gave sliced sandwich bread. fried chicken was good but only available between 1pm to 3pm and some days there was no chicken.
THE UGLY - If management was around they did not make themselves known to the guest. I have to assume the people who were out of uniform wearing jeans with walkie talkies were the managers. And if they were they were not dressed appropriately for their role on the resort. Food and beverage, Bar and Resort management were anonymous.
ACTIVITIES - Not posted anywhere for the times of salsa lessons, volleyball-(waterpolo), Bingo. Activities staff did not go the extra mile to encourage participation at the resort. With the young 20something year olds possibly but for my week at the resort I was never approached by activity staff.
What this hotel lacked is overall service. The inconsistency of the service at all levels was so disappointing. Especially since this hotel carries the Melia name, there was a certain standard that was expected. This was my fourth time in Cuba and definitely this is my least favourite resort. Go to Cayo Coco but don't stay at a MELIA. There are far better resorts on the island.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: One of the better ones so far
We stayed from Jan 12th to Jan 19th 2018. Again, the people make the difference. This was our 7th visit to Cuba never staying at the same resort twice and will return again. As always the people are friendly and helpful and you can go anywhere at anytime and not feel intimidated or fearful. The Hotel received minimal damage from the recent hurricane with just two of the fountains not working and the theater was closed due to some main overhead permanent tarpaulin damage. The entertainment didn't[... read more] stop though, they just moved it to the main lobby of the hotel and as usual was great to watch. No reason to go hungry here, the food was really good with a lot of options. Grounds were kept clean and free from garbage left by late party goers. Weather wasn't the best but we used the sun free cooler days to go into Habana and Varadero. Closest stroll yet to the Hop on Hop off bus, it almost stops at front doors. Main swim up bar was great and the whole area kept clean and has amazing bar staff. Rooms were cleaned everyday with a fresh bottled water and restocked bar fridge by the time we returned from breakfast. Would certainly consider staying here again but we have a few more to check out first. If this resort doesn't meet your standards then your travelling to the wrong country and are a little high maintenance....remember where you are.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice place, too bad about the service.
They have done an amazing job of bringing the resort back after the damage from Hurricane Irma and the beach is still very nice. The resort was at full capacity for most of the time that we were there and this proved to be the problem. The service was at best hit and miss - lineups that were too long, servers that may see you or may ignore you. The food never varied, it may have been good if wasn't always served luke-warm. The a la carte restaurants were hard to book, even though they didn't app[... read more]ear to be fully occupied, and the food was hit/miss there too. I felt bad for the servers at the bars and restaurants - they didn't appear to be happy at all - they were overworked and tired.
The room and grounds were attended well, and these workers had some time to share with you. Our room was well maintained and we met and talked with grounds people who were always friendly and helpful.
The resort was always noisy - everywhere except the beach.
We won't be returning here - and that's too bad because it could have been an exceptional place but they haven't figured out the management of the services correctly.

Melia Las Dunas: Beautiful Resort
Just spent another week at Las Dunas and we loved it.
Our room was freshly painted, spacious and closed to the adult pool and the walkway to the beach. It was very clean and the room service was excellent.
The gardens were beautiful but the palms trees had lost most of their palms during the Irma hurricane. The vast lobby renovated after the storm was gorgeous and had live music with dancing every evening.
The main cafeteria and the restaurants were all renovated and the food was really excel[... read more]lent every day. The beach was being widened to about 100 meters by a ship pumping water and sand on the beach through a big floating hose approximately 1 kilometer long. The construction area was curtained and it did not affect our ability to swim in the ocean.
The live shows in the theatre on most evenings were simply outstanding with the dancers and the singers.
The personnel at Las Dunas is very friendly and helpful. We feel very safe all the time.
Overall: a very enjoyable and relaxing week.
We already booked to return in early March.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Amazing Resort & Staff!!
The best staff I have ever encountered at a resort (my husband and I travel down south 2x year) who are extremely helpful and a joy to be around.
The GM Christian always makes sure every aspect of the hotel is running smoothly and we see him there everyday; wonderful man who is in touch with all aspects of the hotel. Thank you for all you do!
Also a special thank you to Sosa our sunwing rep and customer service mgr Orestes who are both amazing that looked after everything from start to fi[... read more]nish. Mucho gracias!!
Staff at international Julio Cesar, Osmany, Lisette at the beach bar and many others just to name a few are phenomenal...and stop in to see Royland for a ceasar because he makes the best ones at the market!
The Food is great, don't listen when people complain about food ever... there are so many options available and I have celiac and was able to eat and people understood my condition!
Lastly, we have been to Tryp both before and after the hurricane.. the fact that everyone has come together and how great everything looks is remarkable... can't wait to go back!!

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful Resort
The resort was beautiful. Nice big rooms, nice clean washrooms at the lobby and pool (not always the case in Cuba). The beach was amazing. The customer services was also top notch. They had waiters coming around at the pool and in the lobby to take your order - no need to go to the bar. The people working in the buffet were also great. One of the cooks at the meat station even brought our cooked chicken/pork to our table after the first or second supper (my husband did tip him each time). [... read more] The pool was kept clean and our rooms were cleaned daily and included a towel creature each day with a note from our maid. The mini-bar was stocked daily and one day it wasn't so we called up to the lobby and they send someone down right away. (apparently I had been sleeping when they came originally and didn't want to disturb me)
My only complaint is that the food at the buffet was the same every night. Now that being said there was lots of variety of food so not an issue to find food to eat, and I found there was a better selection of vegetables from other resorts I've been too.
Be aware that the drive from the airport to the resort is an hour and 45 minutes. We were aware of this as we've been there before.

Melia Varadero: Beautiful Resort, Great Location With Level Upgrade
We stayed at the Melia Varaderoin January 2018 on the Level.
The Service was amazing Mabel's team did not disappoint, including Umberto at the beach. Everything was taken care of for us, we can't say enough about the service and the upgrade perks were most defiantly worth it.
We enjoyed all the a la carts, my favorite was the Tex Mex steak house.
Buffet staff was friendly and quick to clear the tables.
Entertainment staff was engaging.
I would recommend this resort.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Adequate Resort
When we stayed there mid January Tryp was still undergoing a lot of repair work and rebuilding. The lobby felt quite bare as there were mostly metal chairs to sit on. They had some comfortable seating too but there weren't enough of these for everyone.
The beach is beautiful to walk along as you can enjoy the entire stretch when the tide is out. They have replaced most of the overhead shade areas now and have added wheel chair ramps to each boardwalk. There was no foot rinse station yet so on[... read more]e had to rinse off in the pool after going to the beach.
The buffet food was fresh and tasty even if not especially varied. I found the best meals were the ones made fresh for you at the various stations. The buffet room itself was very functional with white tables and plastic place mats.
Our room looked out over the ocean with a balcony so I didn't care that the TV didn't work and there was no hot water for a couple of days. The room was cleaned well every day and restocked with towels and water.
The staff were absolutely phenomenal!! Friendly, hard working, and quick to help you with whatever you needed.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Incredibly beautiful beach. Great staff. Rebuilding after hurricane damage.
As with almost every resort or hotel, and almost every review of TRYP itself, this review has positives and negatives. We just returned from a week Jan 10-17 with a group of three couples, and here are my observations.
Some observations:
There sure was a lot of damage from hurricane Irma and they are working very hard indeed to restore the resort. They must have been devastated. There are palm stumps all over the place, and I can only imagine how beautiful it was previously.
We were in[... read more] Block 5 and it was really not fully restored yet. I think they opened it too soon as many of the other blocks looked totally restored, while ours looked like a bit of a dump. Our room had only tepid water or cold water for most of the stay. There was hot water only on the last day. The bathroom was worn out with a sagging shower curtain rod and plugged up shower head (that I fixed myself) and dirty woodwork around the desk. The TV was broken and the balcony door had no lock. It was OK I suppose, as we were only there to sleep, but a hot shower would have been nice.
The lobby is exposed and breezy due to the loss of the covered front areas. The lobby seating is limited to a few hardware store plastic couches and chairs, plus some metal round lounge tables and chairs.
The beach has few amenities - all was blown away in the storm, however it's a stunning, gorgeous beach! The best I have ever seen in my life. We just loved it even on the cooler and windy days. TRYP has nice rectangular sunshade structures all along the front of the property. Much better than the round umbrella style palm frond parasols. There were plenty of beach chaise lounges too.
The Asian and European a la carte restaurants were pretty bad. Food was tasteless or in the Asian, some dishes were almost inedibly salty. I brought my own peanut sauce and Thai chilli sauce to make things interesting. The Italian place was terrific however. My preference was the main dining hall buffet. As a vegetarian, I was able to assemble large delicious meals (with my own sauces). Oddly, you need to wait for staff to bring a spoon if you are eating cereal.
Throughout the resort the staff was exemplary. They really, really went out of their way to take care of the guests. The only exception was the barmaid at the a la carte restaurant martini bar who actually had the gall to mock me in front of my friends because I didn't want a drink.
We enjoyed several excursions: The catamaran, the glass-bottom boat, the climbing thing down the road (and my favourite) the horseback riding, which was stunningly beautiful as the horses trotted through the surf.
Tipping is at your discretion and no one ever pressures you to tip.
WiFi is pretty bad... it seemed rare that it actually worked, and when it did the service just crawled along.
The entertainment crew was just amazing... what a super talented bunch! We enjoyed every show they put on... very fun stuff.
They have done a lot of work, but they still have a long way to go

Sol Cayo Coco: Spectacular Resort
We had a great holiday. The resort is exceptionally clean. The staff treat you like family. The food is not bad either. We’ll be going back for sure. We recommend this resort. We had a bit of a flood the first morning due to the heavy rain and Yasletti was there immediately to clean it up. Grounds staff are working hard to bring back the beautiful landscape. Both beaches are great. Always enough chairs at the beach and usually at the pool. Rarely was there more than a couple min w[... read more]ait for buffet.
