VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Terrific Resort

Just returned from DR. Had a fantastic holiday. Great Resort. Staff is always cleaning. Our maid Isabella was superb. Kudos to Johnny "GO JOHNNY GO" love your full of life spirit as well as Caesar (Markiel) who would actually approach us and ask us if we would like a cocktail. Probably the only thing I would love to see improvement on is the White Wine to a better drinking quality wine. The nightly entertainment certainly could be improved as well and the beds and pillows. Great Holiday

Paradise Playa Dorada: Fantastic Vacation

The hotel is in need of a little TLC as do many of the hotels, they have been around for quite a few years and you have to remember this. The hotel staff are very friendly, the food was great, one of the best buffets we have had in the Dominican always hot, lots of it and a fair amount of variety. We enjoyed both the A-La-Carte Restaurants especially The Eden we ate there twice delicious. We were in a two bedroom loft which was huge. A lot of stairs and no balcony but we didn't mind we were hardly in our room at all. We were in a very quiet building too which was nice. If you can get a good price on this hotel you will be pleasantly surprised. We would definitely go back.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: good resort

Friendly staff and relaxing environment. Food was good in the buffet, great varieties of menus. The room was average, housekeeper did an excellent job and it was clean. The evening shows were fair and cheerful.

Paradise Playa Dorada: Solid 3.5 stars

We had booked two garden view rooms and asked for connecting rooms for our family of five. On arrival, our rooms were not close to each other so front desk staff gave us what they called an apartment - king size bed in a separate bedroom and a queen or double in the sitting area and the sofa made up into a bed. Room was great, technically probably an ocean view but not a great view which was fine with us. No charge for the upgrade. I would say it was the best of the beaches at Playa Dorada. Surf was little rough our first day or two and the last couple of days but was very calm during the middle of our stay. Had perfect hot, sunny weather for first five days but wet for the last couple. Lots of beach vendors and people pushing excursions as others have mentioned. We found the food good. Did not eat at the alacarte restaurants but heard some good comments about them. There was some repetition at the buffet but always something different too. Service at the buffet was either really good or nonexistent. Sometimes hard to find a table, other times tables were available but couldn't get someone to bring cutlery. Snack bar was awesome. We hung out at the beach every day. Didn't see the entertainment guys there much so cant comment on them. I think they did most of their activities by the pool. Evening shows that we saw were OK, not great. 2 evenings were rained out. Not much to do in the evening other than the show which doesn't start until 9:30ish and not much to do on rainy days. WiFi way overpriced at the resort but is available at the nearby mall. We enjoyed happy hour at Barrels to Bottles liquor store while the teenagers caught up with their buddies on social media. All in all, good value for what we paid

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Iberostar Costa Dorada

We have no real complaints about this resort...except for the smoking issue.Smoking is not allowed in the restaurants which is great. .however,as is the case with most Carribean resorts,smoking is allowed in all other public areas...bars,patios etc.As is the case here in Ontario, we would love to see smoking banned in public areas.

We only had one complaint re this hotel,,and its one we have with all resort destinations we have been to...althought smoking its not allowed in restaurants, it is allowed in most of the public areas.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Excellent service

Hotel needs renovation but service was awesome and it was really clean! food could use some variety Beach and pools were beautiful and I love the concept of the resort everything is close and Little pools by the reefs that's beautiful

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Clean and friendly staff

We enjoyed our stay at the Riu Bachata. The staff were friendly and the check in and out process was easy and hassle free. The rooms were spacious and clean and the grounds were lovely. We enjoyed a couple nights of good entertainment. The food was ok and we certainly would not starve but there was nothing that I would say was extra special! We had a toilet that was broken and went unfixed for two days, a television that did not work properly and the smell of sewage was a bit overwhelming at tim [... read more]es! The floors in the downstairs hall became quite slippery when wet! As at all resorts the fight for chairs at the pool and beach were a daily occurrence and the usual 6 a.m line for reserving an a la carte restaurant was an annoyance! All those things aside we definitely enjoyed our vacation!

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: 1 week at Casa Marina Jan, 2016

A just got back from a week stay at Casa Marin Beach Resort from Jan 16-23, 2016. Let me first list the GOOD: - 12 minutes ride from the airport - cheap price $650/person - nice pools - nice beach ( not as nice as Cuba) - good food - Jacuzzi - nice ocean view - well kept grounds The BAD: - None existent service at the restaurants and bars - rude bartenders - smoking everywhere - my wife and I had a food poisoning - outdated rooms - nightly and daily entertainment This is a solid 3 star hotel. [... read more] I would return for the right price.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: EXCELLENT FABULOUS AMAZING

This resort is the kind of resort that makes you know you will never look elsewhere for a place. Between the excellent food, the kindness of the staff. This place is so clean. Never ever saw any garbage or spills. They're extremely welcoming as well. The beach is glorious. Even with the beach vendors, who we've become good friends with and amazing deals. The rooms are clean, comfortable and attractive. We are already planning our 3rd trip. No need to look elsewhere

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great resort

The resort was very clean, from the washrooms to our rooms...the lobby and the grounds!!! The buffet was very good, always a great variety to choose from(sometimes there was a couple cold things that should have been hot) the staff were all friendly...one sweetheart that stands out the most is Maria, she cleans the lobby washrooms, always a smile on her face and says hi each time she sees you!!!!

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Worst Resort Ever!!

This place should not be open.. I went there in Jan for my birthday; arrived at the reception and witnessed the manager fighting with a customer for asking if he could upgrade his room(first warning sign).. Checked in and had to carry my own luggages to my room which was in building #12 fifth floor with no elevators!! Went to have dinner and omg was I shocked by the lack of variety and very limited option to pick from. Paid more but omg Gran Vantena was worth the extra $$ we paid.. Word of advise; stay clear of this resort!!!

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Best Resort We've Been to Yet!

We could honestly say we had one of our best family vacations at Cofresi! Everything from the flight down to the check out and return was excellent. The rooms were comfortable and everything in working order. The food was amazing all around! Dined at the a la carte selections as well as buffet daily and grill by beach was handy! Pools, bars and beach area were all relaxing and not over crowded by any means. There were plenty of COMFORTABLE loungers around the water areas. Good vibe around the be [... read more]achside pools with the activities and music. Friendly and helpful staff everywhere. Loved the spa! We missed the VIP dinner and party on Sunday night but everyone raved about it and we could see the fire works from our balcony. We didn't partake in any excursions as they were in all American $$ and pricey with the terrible exchange at this time and kept ourselves entertained. This resort is moderately steep as it is carved into the side of a mountain so make sure you have good shoes for walking. That being said, there are plenty of shuttle stops to take you where you want to go and getting around was not an issue. Lastly, the grounds were lovely and well manicured which was nice with shade and tropical breeze at night for added atmosphere. We are planning to return to Cofresi again as we found the resort to be just what we like!

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Very enjoyable holiday!

Just returned from the Iberostar Costa Dorada and had a great time. Unfortunately we had a few days of non stop rain, but one cannot control the weather. I cannot find anything to complain about our stay. We requested a room change to an ocean view and this was done for us with no issues. Thank you for that! We found that the food at the buffets and the a la carte's was excellent quantity and quality. Staff in all areas of the hotel were friendly and helpful. Lovely beach for walking and we didn [... read more]'t have any issue finding chairs. Spent most of our time on the beach, but the pool did look lovely as well. Rain did not dampen our spirits and we had a wonderful time and I would return. One suggestion I would make is that perhaps there could be more stringent rules regarding designated smoking areas. Being nonsmokers, we did notice a fair bit of smoking.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: A great vacation

The hotel is big and there is plenty to do. It rained for two days and the hotels wifi was good enough for Netflix. Once it cleared up there was tons of beach and pool activities. The food was great and the gourmet a la carte was unbelievable. The best steak I've ever eaten.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: great resort and people

I thought the hotel was super , the staff were all helpful and pleasant, the beach was great and the pools were clean,. the food was yummy lots of choice.....the entertainment was good 3 nights other nights very poor....the planned VIP parties were excellent...

Riu Merengue: Great beach; great food; older rooms

I travelled with 2 young kids (2 and 4y) to Riu Merengue and we enjoyed our trip. We were disappointed with our room, the furniture and bathroom was old/dented/scratched, but on the other hand very clean and really thats more important. The beach and food made up for it all. The sandy beach is long and not over crowded, a few 50-200m out there is a small coral reef with many fish that we snorkeled through. I recommend to snatch a lounge chair in the morning before breakfast. The food at the buff [... read more]et was great - breakfast and dinner were amazing. But do not go to the a la carte restaurants, trust me!! A walk up to the light house was worth a great view.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Terrific Tangerine for tuning out tanning

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Fantastic Vacation

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. This is a huge resort that offers a shuttle service which was very helpful. We ate mostly at the Main Buffet and the food was awesome. Biggest buffet I have seen on any of our vacations. Lots of variety that no one would walk away hungry. The room was fantastic, we had a one bedroom om master suite and would do it again. The ocean view and beach from the balcony was beautiful. Pool was great and the entertainment staff did a great job getting everyone involve [... read more]d in daily activities around the pool. Only thing I wished for was a rye & coke and they had neither. They carry Pepsi only which gives me severe heart burn but I wouldn't say it ruined my vacation. Water is always good lol and so is Vodka and Orange Juice. Great Vaction! I have already recommended this resort to a view of my friends and can't wait to go back.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Clean resort.

We had a alright stay. Our air conditioning wasn't working for 3 days, one of the other rooms our friends were staying in the toilet wasn't working for couple days. We really didn't like the food much really found it hard to find something for our youngest son. Also the air flight with sunwing was awful. On the way coming home we waited for 4 hours we didn't know what was going on why it was delayed all other flights were going out. We spent 60-89 dollars on food.
