This has been one of the cleanest, tidiest resorts in Cuba. The staff are very friendly and courteous. It is very low key, so if you are looking for a place to get away and relax, this is definitely the right place.

Melia Cayo Coco: Even better second time around!!
Second time visiting the hotel within a year and, after a not so favorable vacation in Cayo Santa Maria, have fallen back in love with Cuba, in no small part to the Melia resort in Cayo Coco!
We were amazed at how dedicated and industrious the Cuban people must have been to get the hotel back up in working order and re-opened after the hurricane, in such a short amount of time! We were shown pictures by the staff of the devastation and it is a really a testament to the wonderful people of Cu[... read more]ba.
Almost everything we loved from our first visit was back and in working order but, the staff 'bent over backwards' to ensure our stay was perfect and we almost didn't notice the few discrepancies. The 'jewel of Melia's crown' is their staff and was always greeted with a smile after each request and was left wanting for nothing. Everyone from the management staff to the serving staff and gardeners was always pleasant and welcoming and asked if they could help in any way, and the main reason we play to re-visit this hotel again in the very near future!

Melia Marina Varadero: Beautiful resort
The grounds were well kept. Pools were clean,(but cool). Need more public washrooms. The restaurants were clean and the a la carts were fantastic, really good food. Breakfast not so great too many sausage choices 5 at least. The omelets were good
At the bars they kept running out of mint for mojitos Cuba makes the best mojitos. They need a better menu for mixed drinks.
The beach was clean and when you walked into the water out to your waist you can still see your feet.
We had cool weather,[... read more] windy, drizzly and little sun shine, so most of the entertainment was held in the lobby, they tried there best.
New Years eve dinner was fantastic, entertainment could have been better

Hotel Vigia: Great resort for the price!
We just spent 14 days at this resort over Christmas and New Years. I can't say enough about the staff of this resort. They were so friendly and helpful. The food was great with lots of choices. The beach is beautiful! This resort is not as lush as it used to be due to the hurricane damage, but it is still beautiful. We loved the small size of the resort and the quiet atmosphere. We really recommend this resort for a traveller on a budget. Big bang for your buck!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Just ok....
I travelled with my family of 4 (2 kids, ages 4 and 7 years old) December 29 - January 5, and knew what to expect when going to Cuba. We don't go for the food, so the expectation wasn't very high.
The resort was exactly the way it was presented in the pictures (which was refreshing), however there were several things that needed improvement - and I'm guessing it was only because its a busy time of year, and staff just couldn't keep up.
1. no clean pool towels until day 3 - thankfully I [... read more]brought the kids towels from home
2. washrooms were almost always less than desirable - cleaning staff didn't use cleaning products, just paper towels to clean them (which I witnessed on several occasions)
3. often times there was no toilet paper in the stalls - but available upon request
4. kids feet/toes were getting little cuts on them when swimming in any/all of the pools (almost every kid at the pool had band-aids on their feet/toes (so strange)
5. There were no activities during the day for the kids at all - the kids club was always empty and nothing to do, other than a slide and a swing set that my daughter cut her finger on
So to be fair, we didn't eat at any of the a la carte restaurants (and the people that I spoke to that did, said the food was fantastic), because we heard the wait was much too long for my young children, so I'm only able to review the food at the places that offered buffet style and the 24 hour snack bar.
1. the food was almost cold or overcooked and mushy, or undercooked and pink and not edible
2. there was almost always no condiments, including ketchup, syrup, and butter
3. the line ups for any thing cooked to order, were at least 15 minutes - omelets and crepes
4. bread in the morning was almost always hard (stale)
So overall, I probably would recommend the resort for families, because it has potential and it was very nice.
The transfer to the airport was quick and easy, and the beach was stunning.
Despite all the small inconveniences, we still had an enjoyable time, however I would never travel during the holidays again. I'll wait a week and go when the resort is less busy and the staff can keep up.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Not ready yet after hurricane
Overall the stay was ok however I do not believe that this resort is quite ready to open after the hurricane.
There is a lack of public washrooms, the beach washrooms are not operational at all, and there are no washrooms available at the the pool at all. The only public washrooms were outside of the buffet, or in the lobby bar but they were only 1/2 operational as stalls were close and daily and there was a foul smell coming from all of them.
The food was adequate, but nothing to write ho[... read more]me about. After all it is buffet everyday. They did have 3 fresh cooking stations open at each sitting
breakfast had 2 egg / omelet and 1 French toast / pancake station and they did have bacon every morning
Lunch and supper had
-1 meat station (pork chops, chicken, steak and liver) The chicken and pork were very good
-1 fish station with 5 varieties daily
1- pasta station
And the also had a pizza station most lunches and suppers
The rooms were older but they were ok for Cuba. They had a tv with about 6 English channels including stars, and Disney for kids. They had double pillows and extra blankets already in the room where it normally takes a few days to get these. The downside was there was some plumbing problems on a couple days with backup.
The staff were excellent in all areas including customer service, reception, the bars and restaurants.
The pools were all open and in good running condition however there were no lifeguards at the pool or beach
My suggestion is if you want to stay here is wait till next year. They are working daily in the resort but it’s still not ready
As far as Cayo Coco goes the island was hit hard by the hurricane, there are many resorts that are not in operation and there appears to be no effort to fix them.
Also the weather was bad for 3 days while we were there and the town was about $100 to go to and an hour each way so not much to do when it’s cliydt and rainy

Melia Varadero: Beach and ocean too rocky!!
It was almost a perfect holiday, but it was our first time at this resort and we felt it would not disturb the environment if the beach was cleared of all the rocks. It certainly would have made a difference if we had been able to safely take the kids down to the sand and let them go into the ocean.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice place a few service issues
The resort was clean and fairly new and in good repair after the hurricane in October but the bar service was often slow. At the Trattoria al a carte we waited two hours for our order and were told "Dont atart a war" when we asked what the hold up was.
Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: It's ok, but it definitely is not a 5*
This resort is ok, but it does not qualify as a 5 star resort. It needs some TLC, repainting would do a huge improvement. Food selection is very basic - nothing special. If one goes to this resort hoping to get a wonderful selection and a variety of tropical fruits - one will be very disappointed.
The service is friendly but not overly eager to please, except one tips right at the beginning. Starting right at the beginning with front desk, cleaning lady, pool service and restaurants etc.. Then[... read more] you get amazing service - money and chocolate did the trick 😊😊
Unfortunately we had horrible weather - we had only one day of sun. All the other days it was very windy, cloudy, rainy and very cold. But this has nothing to do with the resort - no one can give a guarantee on weather.
Next holidays I'll be prepared to always bring some warm cloth.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Nice peaceful resort
The room was large, clean, had a safe, bath robes, ironing board, iron and hair blower. Very good amenities . They provided a package of larger containers of soap, lotion, shower gel that lasted the whole week. Fridge contained large bottle of water, soft drinks and beer that was replenished daily. Bed comfortable as were pillows. We were glad to have a warm blanket in the closet as we did catch a cold spell. Our room was on the third floor which gave us a lovely view of the sea. We initial[... read more]ly had a room on the ground floor that was pretty run down and I had requested a room higher up so they changed the room for us without question.
The staff were so kind and courteous. Our maid even gave us a little wooden souvenir box. Thank you Yaima. We had very good service in all of the restaurants. There was skyways plenty to eat and a good variety to suit all pallets. One of our waitresses - Yena, gave my husband and I a cute key chain each. We brought a lot of little gift items for maids and a couple of waitresses. Some were sweet treats or toiletries etc. fill your suitcase with as many extras as you can fit in.
Resort was very peaceful as there were no nightclubs. Nights were nice and quiet. Beach was lovely and plenty of chairs. Pool area as nice but sadly people hogged the pool bed and chairs for the whole day by leaving their towels and some personal effects even when they weren't using them. This shouldn't be allowed. One negative was that the pools weren't deep enough to really swim. Only good for standing in.
Had some entertainment on the grounds, beach and lobby throughout the day.
We got to experience the Cuban healthcare system. The medical staff were very kind, competent and professional and the customs service representative called to make sure my husband was Ok and to see if there was anything else they could do for us. Thank you Diletes (sorry if I got your name wrong) for your kindness too. The hotel doctor was very helpful and we had good aftercare. Staff were so kind afterwards with a special thank you to Prado for his kind words.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet getaway where you can really relax. You can see that all the staff work very hard to ensure we all have a good experience.

Memories Cayo Largo: Sol Cayo Largo - my "happy place"
We enjoy Sol Cayo Largo very much. This was our second visit. Staff work very hard to please guests. Food is not up to North American standards but you are not paying North American prices so it is fine - you won't go hungry. The property is lovely. The pool is beautiful. Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Great resort, fantastic people, excellent beach.
This is our second visit in five years. The grounds are well maintained. The beach is excellent with ample room, facilities and towel exchange. The staff are excellent, very gracious, attentive, helpful, accommodating and for the most part very hospitable. We never felt that we were simply a tourist with a dollar sign. The food was good with plenty of variety. New salad bar and Espresso bar are welcome additions! New Year's eve dinner and preparation in the main cafeteria was fantastic! [... read more]Well done, excellent presentation and organization!! New Years' eve party and live band was exceptional! Incredible talent! The main "cafeteria" could use some "ventilation" improvements. Often smoky, sitting outside on the "patio potion" was a welcome alternative. The rooms are very tired and in dire need for some refurbishment. This is the only negative detail of the resort. Pricing of the resort for this time of the year seemed excessive, as was the case for all locations over the Post Christmas-New Year's time frame.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Disappointed
Visited Melia Peninsula Varadero with our friends for a week. We have all been to Cuba before and had a lovely time, hence the reason to return for a getaway week and a winter break. The hotel lobby, main areas, grounds were all well kept.
We had the vip upgrade which meant closer to the beach, robes and slippers in room, beach towels in room, a bottle of rum and 20% discount at the spa. The rooms were quite basic and served it's purpose - a good night's rest and somewhere to shower and ch[... read more]ange; most of the time spent on the beach which was lovely. The staff at the resort were friendly and helpful and tried to help us out whenever they can eg fresh towels daily, bottle of water, bathroom tissue.
Our biggest grief was at the main restaurant - the food is what we expected (been to Cuba before) but the issue is that it was not being replenished. At breakfast, lunch, dinner the trays at the buffet would be empty, picked over and not be replenished. Families would be taking 2 and 3 plates of food per person, filled to the max, no sense of order at the queues, people cutting in, cutting you off and going around on the other side of the buffet. Utter chaos. By the time we get around to the buffet there is no food left and its quite a long time before its replenished. So very frustrating we would go to the pool bar and have an sandwich and fries or pizza. On NYE they pulled out all the stops and served steak and lobster, but there was still the issue of people cutting in and having multiple servings at once. We complained one night and was offered to go to the a la carte beach restaurant which we refused as we were there before and the food was awful - Cold soup and overdone fish and meat. The other a la carte restaurants - Italian and Japanese were fully booked while we were there and never got to try them.
We were there to have a good time at the beach and have some downtime which we did, but we were all terribly disappointed at the main restaurant.

Melia Marina Varadero: Good resort but a bit far
My experience at Melia Marina was good! Travelled many times and been to lost of Melia resort all around the world and knew a little bit what to expect. Wasn't happy with my room on my first day and after speaking with the lady at the front desk she gave me a new room. Overall it's a good hotel!

Hotel Vigia: Great resort for the money
I have been to Cuba many times. This hotel and Beach is an excellent value. If you are looking for a five-star this is not your hotel. But the people are lovely. The food is very decent for Cuba. The hotel is a little dated. But everything is clean and tidy. Everyone in Cuba is working very hard to fix the devastation of the hurricane. I have been to this Resort four times and will continue to return.

Sol Palmeras: Well established very clean hotel in great location providing very good services.
This is the 4th time I have stayed at the Sol Palmeras because it is a very good hotel. I travel alone and the cost of the package is more expensive that for a couple. It cost me $3600. I do, however have, a complaint. The room they gave me when I checked in was a disaster. It smelled very musty when I first opened the door. Neither the fridge nor the safe worked. The next morning I asked for another room. They told me to come back at 2:30 p.m.. I did and they assigned me a very nice room [... read more]with a king bed and a view of the pool.
